Tried the beginner class with some friends. Very cool staff, super knowledgeable and great at explaining the moves / techniques. The gym is in an easy location, parking is great and the prices are good too.
Overall an excellent experience. I recommend this gym for all levels of boxers.

This club is so great. Both coaches (Eli, Nathan) are amazing and they care a lot about building community, attracting kind and patient students at various levels. Their punch cards and free first trial class are a great way to get started and “feel out” the vibe. “No nonsense” and good individual instruction! Class schedule options are a bit limited but can accommodate busy work schedules with 6am and 6:30pm options. Eli and Nathan inspire me to try harder both physically and mentally

Shit they don't coach you just expect you to figure things out on your own including mitts and they stole 100 dollars from me because I had 5 passes left but they changed the website and now I cant access it so those passes were gone.

Eli and Nathan are really friendly. Went for the free class, they showed me around the gym which love is dog friendly and Nathan helped wrap my hands before class started. Right of the bat it wasn’t as intimidating bc of the warm welcome. Did some partner work and a HIIT finisher. I
Planned on joining but from volleyball ended up spraining my thumb. Look forward to training with this gym once I heal.

This is a wonderful place. I came in for the first time a few months ago, I hadn’t been in a gym of any kind in years and never boxed before. I felt welcomed so I came back and I stared feeling more confident so I’ve kept coming.
Nathan and Eli are both really good at what they do. I’ve been pushed to do as much as I can but also but also encouraged to recognize my limits.
It’s hard, it’s fun.

BEST GYM IN SEATTLE! I walked into BBBC and met the owner Nathan when I was 13 years old. I wasn't a super athletic kid until that point, but I instantly fell in love with boxing and fitness. This gym is literally where it all started for me. Fast forward 12 years, and now I'm 25 working as a fitness trainer. I've experimented with countless approaches to training on both myself and my clients, but this is still my favorite workout by far. Nate is an incredible instructor and trainer. I learned all the fundamentals of fitness, boxing, and nutrition from him. He knows his stuff, and he's almost single-handedly run this gym since he opened it, so it's retained its local feel. The class itself combines boxing training with a safer version of CrossFit style METCON, so you're guaranteed to get a full body workout and leave the class feeling awesome & exhausted (and injury-free!) With each class, you can expect to hit cardio, core work, basic strength calisthenics, boxing technique drills, and bootcamp-style conditioning. Not only will your overall fitness improve, but your self-defense skills will too, making it much more satisfying than just a "workout." In addition, there's a designated space for heavy lifting if that's something you want to focus on. The gym does offer sparring on certain days if you want to test your boxing skills, but it's completely optional. So, if you live in Seattle, do yourself a favor and come train here. I sincerely mean it when I say it's the best gym in the city. Come try it for yourself.

I joined Ballard Barbell and Boxing Club in January, and it's been one of the best decisions I made in 2024. While I have some prior fitness experience, I walked into the gym out of shape and never having boxed before. The gym environment is immediately familiar and you're welcomed as a member of the club whether you are dropping in for one workout or becoming a regular.

Over the past year, I've seen my fitness improve dramatically, I continue to work on learning a new thing and new skills, and I've gotten to know a bunch of people that I look forward to seeing every week.

The workouts typically involve a warmup, several rounds of boxing work with either a partner and mitts or a bag, and a workout at the end that combines strength and intensity work. The emphasis on mitt work is awesome - you see your skills tangibly improve with ever session.

Walking into a new gym can be intimidating, but you should come give it a try if you thinking about it enough to read these reviews.

I've been coming to BBBC for 2 months now and I love the workout and community! I was intimidated to try out a boxing gym but the first class free convinced me. I had tried kickboxing before, but practicing boxing techniques with a partner and mitts has been a lot more engaging and fun to me than a bag work circuit. The workout is different everyday and always provides a fun challenge. The community really sets it apart. I immediately felt welcomed and was happy to find a third space I could hang out at and chat with others. Everyone I've met at BBBC is so kind and friendly and wants to help you succeed!

If you've been thinking about trying out boxing, BBBC is the place to be :)

I did the Barbell Lifting Fundamentals course here with Kate, through PlaySmartAthletics and can't recommend it enough. I had some very basic barbell experience, but had never been taught proper form and was nervous about lifting heavier.

The class was a small group size (ours was 4 people) so we each got a ton of individual attention and help. Kate was great at explaining how the movements should feel and making corrections until we all got comfortable. Some of the other people in the class had never used a barbell before, so we went through the basics thoroughly. I feel a lot more confident now going to the gym on my own and continuing to lift.

The class was honestly also super fun. Kate's coaching is really lighthearted and supportive, so no fears about looking silly or doing anything wrong. It's a great class for anyone.

Katlyn's weightlifting class was amazing! I've been wanting to lift for a long time but was worried about doing moves incorrectly and injuring myself (and looking foolish, if we're being totally honest). Kate's PlaySmart Athletics intro class was exactly what I needed. She broke everything down in really accessible and easy-to-remember steps. And I feel so much more comfortable and confident navigating weights at the gym!

BBBC is also such a great place to workout! I immediately felt welcomed even though I was trying something out of my comfort zone and was nervous. I had no need to be - it's such a supportive environment and I can't wait to go back

★ 5

I really enjoyed Kate's lifting class (though PlaySmart Athletics) at BBBC! Although I’m familiar with dumbbell workouts, I’ve never lifted a barbell before and I wasn't sure what to expect.

Kate did a great job of breaking down each move to make the new info digestible. She focused time on each person to ensure that we each locked in the proper form, and helped us with modifications when needed.

Since the group was small, I felt like I got a fair amount of 1:1 attention without paying the price of personal training sessions (huge plus!). I left each class excited about what I learned and energized to practice more!

This class is a great fit for all levels: whether you’re a beginner and just starting out, or you’re experienced but want to double check your form. I’d highly recommend!

During my eight month stay in Seattle, I discovered BBBC about four months in and am only disappointed I had not found it the day I got there. I travel a lot and like to frequent the local gyms and this one is in my top 5. You won't find a smoothie bar and tanning bed or ladies pilates at 6am. It's a rough warehouse structure with basic open floor format with a ring and bags. You go there, you and your fellow patrons sweat and punch each other or at least the mits and you go home happy. I'll definitely visit again if I'm ever in the area.

To echo the other reviewers, yes, this is the best gym in Seattle, if you’re looking to sweat, learn how punch some faces, and be part of a supportive community.

My personal journey has found me a little over a year into coming, with Nate (the coach/owner) being a consistent support for my fitness goals. I come on average about three times a week to one of the afternoon classes. I’ve lost about 35lbs and am in the best shape of my life.

Though, losing weight may be why I came initially, it’s not why I keep coming back. The X factor that sets this gym apart for me is the community. Nate is great, and the rest of the gym stays tight too. this has been a great space to make and keep new friends outside of my bubble! Which just seems harder to do as I get older.

Now having been here for this time, it’s great to see new faces join and their experience reflect my own. Nate has created a special thing here.

Always be slipping! Hope to see you at the gym, you won’t regret it.

If you're dubious about the boxing, don't be. It's a great upper-body workout, builds coordination, and it's a lot of fun. If you're looking for a way to get in shape, or in better shape, you can't do better than the BBBC.
