I had a bad experience doing crossfit for the very first time, at Ballard Crossfit.
The βinstructorβ (if you could call her that) was not helpful at all and barely paid attention
to me, which was upsetting because, again, I had never done crossfit before.
I had to rely on asking those around me what I was supposed to do or what a workout was, because the instructor was too busy chatting with people.
The people here are cool, but if youβre a beginner going solo, I would NOT recommend coming here

Iβve always wanted to try CrossFit but was hesitant, fearing I might hurt myself. However, Iβm glad I finally took the plunge and went to Ballard CrossFit. They were incredibly welcoming! Most of the coaches focus on form, which I really appreciate. They consistently correct my form and reassure me that it will improve over time.
The community here is fun and not stuffy like other gyms. Itβs quite entertaining and often funny. They even allow kids and dogs, making it even more welcoming. The workouts can be brutal at times, but not always. If youβre nervous about CrossFit, give this place a try!

Joined BCF with no Crossfit experience ~4 months ago and was welcomed immediately. The coaches and fellow members are friendly and supportive. Couldn't recommend BCF enough.

Former CrossFit naysayer here. So glad I decided to try these guys out. From end to end everyone here was friendly, accommodating, patient, knowledgeable. Very safety conscious. Very supportive community vibe. The space itself is great. Only good things to say. My one caution is that there's a lot of skill and strength required to do a lot of the moves and you really really have to ease into it slowly if you aren't already fit and proficient in the techniques.

Perfectly OKAY programming if youβre looking for a good sweat. Think of it like a HIIT work out, blended with CrossFit. The people and staff are super nice, and welcoming. That said, If youβre looking for technical depth you might have to take advantage of their open gym. Additionally, they have Olympic lifting and gymnastics one off programs at additional cost you can pay through the year, for dedicated skill work. Theyβre really good! But usually, CrossFit gyms weave this type of work into their regular program.

This year marks the fourth year I've been a member at Ballard CrossFit. I spent most of my life as a corporate gym rat, spending time and money without any interactions with people, let alone seeing any results. To say that I'm not the most outgoing person is an understatement - the people at BCF changed that! The group at this box are amazing, very open, warm, non-judgmental. We don't care what people look like, shape they are in, but more that they show up and put some effort into the workouts. You can expect tons of encouragement and a staff that will make sure you are doing things properly and safely. Ballard CrossFit really has changed my life for the better, so happy I took the chance and signed up!

Hands down the best gym I've been to in my life. Whether you're just starting to get back in shape or you're a hardened crossfitter who has persevered through routine death marches, Paige and the other coaches will push you to your physical zenith. If you live in or drive through the ballard area, you'd be making a terrible mistake not giving this place a shot.

I've been with BCF for almost 1.5 years now, and it has changed my life for the better through making me a stronger, more resilient, more mobile person with a higher work capacity than I had before I started.
The coaches at BCF are dedicated professionals who provide skill-level appropriate cueing, explanations and encouragement, while consistently demonstrating body mechanics and proper technique for every WOD introduction, day after day. While this must be mind-numbing for the coaches, it is very helpful for the athletes to be reminded day after day of the proper body mechanics of, e.g., the deadlift.
Then throughout the WOD, they tune techniques, and help you when your technique starts to break down.
The added classes, such as Barbell Club, and Gymnastics Club are fantastic for additional technique work, and having lots of open gym time (you always make way for athletes who need space for WODs) is an incredible benefit for folks trying to squeeze in fitness advances along with jobs and families and busy lives.
I never feel judged at BCF, and the folks who attend are open, encouraging, and work extremely hard.

Did a drop-in this Saturday, and thoroughly enjoyed the gym and the people. Paige, the coach, was very welcoming and pushed everyone during the workout (in a good way). Topping it off with up/down Sallys was a perfect ending. Anyone looking for a good spot to workout -- this is it. You won't regret it!

I was a member here for 2+ years and sad to go when I moved out of state. Professional friendly staff, great programming who support you wherever you are in your fitness journey, and friendly regulars. No need to be perfect. There are superhumans and regular joes here. Just keep showing up. You get out what you put in. They have additional classes for a nominal fee to work on Olympic lifts and/or gymnastics moves if youβre interested. Itβs a great box and community. They have great social events regularly too. Come in and check it out... You wonβt regret it

The coaches and crossfitters at this gym make it a great balance between excellent fitness progression and strong community connection. As I walked up to what was clearly a bustling gym, both the head coach as well as the gym owner walked out and welcomed me. Joining one of their classes shortly after, I was impressed by their dedication to teaching proper form, their encouragement for each athlete to challenge themselves in a safe and sustainable way, and their facilitation for class members to connect and support one another. So great to work out in this authentic environment-- I would definitely be a regular if I lived in Seattle.

I was visiting the area for a week and dropped in to 3 classes. I had an excellent experience. They have a lot of coaches, all with great training techniques. There are a lot of class times available too. The coaches and the community were very welcoming to me. That week they even had an in-house Friday night competition that they invited me to compete in, but my schedule unfortunately didn't allow for me to join in. They have a basketball hoop too πποΈββοΈππ

This crossfit gym is great! The space is very open, the equipment is nice and clean, and they have great shirts you can buy in place of paying the drop in fee. They packed the hour with a strength component, a gymnastics movement and a fun metcon. Also the coach was a physical therapist and had great cues. She took the time and energy to give everyone in the class attention, even us drop-ins who are usually ignored in a large class. I hope I can find time to make another class at this place before I leave town!

Dropped into Ballard Crossfit to do 18.5 while away from my home gym. I emailed ahead and Erin responded. She was willing to judge me in her free time. She was a great combo of coach, judge and cheerleader. The gym was welcoming and clean. Members were friendly and chatty. Defininately worth a visit when in the Seattle area. Thanks Erin!

Ballard CrossFit was my home gym (and really, second home) for over three years. I recently moved out of the area and was so sad to leave this gym and community!
I've visited many CrossFit gyms, and BCF has the best programming I've ever experienced. The coaches focus on long-term understanding of movements and muscle memory in correct positions as well as proper form. This approach prevents injury and really ensures a good foundation of movements. Ballard CrossFit also offers a Barbell Club and Gymnastics Club for athletes who want to take their mastery of movement even farther.
Beyond programming, the coaching cues here are consistent (throughout your workout, not just occasional or while doing "strength") and very helpful. Each coach truly cares about all members and finding a way to coach them individually - not just using the same coaching techniques for all athletes. I feel like I have such a good understanding of how I personally can improve my technique after being coached here for years.
And the community - I can't say enough great things about the people at this gym! It's truly a judgement-free zone of athletes who care about you as a person and are genuinely happy to see you every day. I looked forward to working out after work daily, and when I visit Seattle now, a visit to Ballard CrossFit is on the top of my "must do" list.

I worked out at Ballard CrossFit while I was in town for a week and was very impressed with both the facilities and staff. Though I did not take a class because I use my own program, they had everything I needed for weightlifting and accessory work and plenty of space to do it even while classes were going on. All of the instructors I spoke with were very friendly and helpful, as well as quite reasonable about pricing. I will definitely come back to Ballard CrossFit to train next time I'm in town.

This place is an absolutely amazing fitness community. There are members of all levels and as a new member you will be extremely welcomed. The workouts are tough but are always fun, interesting, and focused on achieving new skills and milestones, not just sweating to sweat. If you're looking to improve your health just show up and they'll take care of the rest.

Ballard CrossFit was my body's home base for 5 years. I tried out a few other CrossFit gyms, and this is hands down the best. The major difference for me is the staff. They keep athletes safe, challenge you just enough to go beyond what you think you're capable of, and really care about building a community of camaraderie, support, and fun.
Before I tried CrossFit, I wasn't sure it was for me. I'm so glad a friend invited me to do the beginning series with him, because it led me to become the strongest and fittest I've been in my life. I love the variety of disciplines that CrossFit combines - workouts always feel fresh, never boring, and I strengthened parts of my body I probably would have avoided on my own. No matter your level of experience, age, or how fit you appear to be, you will be both challenged and celebrated here.
Beyond its regular classes, Ballard CrossFit has offerings to enhance nutrition, proper weightlifting technique, preparation for competitions, physical therapy, social gatherings, and more. Thank you for all that you do, and especially all that you've done for me and my health, Coaches Carlos, Erin, Joe, Brian, and Paige.

Excellent Crossfit gym! The trainers and gym owner were super friendly and helpful. They definitely accommodate members of varying skill levels. I've seen some serious Olympic lifting at the same time as some introductory and intermediate classes. It was also a very family friendly location. People have brought their small children and dogs to the gym! It's a great fit for beginners and seasoned competitors alike.

Possibly the best workout environment you can get. Been a member for three and-a-half years and have only had good experiences. Coaches are experienced, smart, are great teachers, while being warm, funny and welcoming. The atmosphere is positive and friendly, and any egos are checked at the door. Crossfit can be a humbling experience and the encouragement I've seen coaches and members give is an experience in itself.

I was visiting from out of town and staying in Ballard so I checked out Ballard crossfit. I joined Crossfit about 6 months ago and love the philosophy of functional movement and community at my box so was looking for something similar. I also signed up for the Open for the first time amd was nervous doing the first heat in a new box. Ballard crossfit was really responsive over email and very welcoming of me the day of. I was pretty nervous going into the open, but the coaches made me feel more at ease. My coach, Brian, was very helpful and encouraging during the workout. The group of folks there were also really great. Lots of cheering me on and congratulations after the workout. Definitely a great box to join or just drop into!! Thanks Ballard Crossfit!!

I've never been a joiner, especially with athletics. But now I can't imagine working out alone. It's a great feeling to have people around you, grueling through the same workout, and high fiving each other when you finish. Ballard CrossFit has a camaraderie that is hard to beat.
As for the nuts and bolts, they have a ton of class times so you never have an excuse for not showing up. The coaches are awesome -- encouraging, but sticklers on movement standards and making sure the members don't sacrifice safety for a faster time. The programming of the daily wod is great. They also have a weekly barbell club where you can get some extra work in on your Olympic lifting.
So whether you're a seasoned CrossFitter or just looking to get started, Ballard CrossFit will meet you where are and help you to become the best athlete you can be.

I was not an athlete but wanted to be stronger and able to hike in the mountains and enjoy life. Notice, I say "was not" because now I am! Never in my life have I felt better about my body. Crossfit has helped my body and my mind! The coaches at this gym have been fantastic helping me learn proper form so I don't injure myself and encouraging all the way! My friends are all from this great gym! I love this group of people and am so glad I found Ballard Crossfit! Check out their "on ramp" program to get started. You won't regret it!

This is a place for fitness and for camaraderie! For someone who wasn't much of an athlete growing up, I never felt like an "outsider" in this varied group of awesome people. I was embraced, encouraged, and motivated since day one. And two years later, I'm still at it with a lot of the same people who were there at the beginning and even more friends who've joined since! Ballard Crossfit provides a fun environment and friendly community that keeps you going back everyday. Love this Crossfit family!

Of all the gyms I've been to, I've never found one that made me want to actually keep coming back day after day, month after month, and pretty soon I'll be saying year after year. This "box" is clean, it has a great set up, they offer lots of different skill classes to help the members grow in specific areas, offer childcare, and they even have yoga on Sundays! The coaches are extremely attentive and know when to challenge you to try something new and when to listen to your body to slow down. When I started I couldn't do a proper push up if my life depended on it, I've been going 3x/week for the past year and now I'm doing push ups, lifting more weight, and doing things with my body that I never dreamed I could do! Seriously, if you're into feeling good about yourself, do yourself a favor and come check this place out, I promise you won't be disappointed.

The coaches at Ballard CrossFit are awesome. I've visited some "boxes" where the only thing that matters is how much effort the members put into their workout, or how much weight they can life. By contrast, the Ballard CF coaches are extremely concerned about (and knowledgeable about) correct form, safety in the gym, and getting a good (fun) workout without getting hurt.
Ballard CF is also an extremely friendly place. I've had memberships at some gyms where I've never really met another member in any meaningful way. By contrast, the Ballard CrossFit coaches are great at making sure everyone knows each others' names, they encourage and host social events, have frequent "partner WODs", and are extremely supportive of members' outside activities.
(Although not relevant to me specifically, I should note that Ballard CrossFit does offer some child care options as well.)
