About the Club

Indoor bouldering gym with a yoga studio, fitness studio, weight room, climbing training center, and youth programs. Located in the Fremont neighborhood. Everyone is welcome. Our Fremont gym carries the flair of the Fremont neighborhood right into two floors of bouldering. This bright, beautiful space has everything we love: climbing, fitness, and co-working spaces, and more. Our campus also includes Upper Walls: our hidden gem! Upper Walls is a separate, smaller gym tucked into the surrounding neighborhood. It’s a space that feels like home and has some of the best bouldering around.

For the person working the front desk who's name I do not remember, thank you so much. The staff here are incredible and gave me so much help and support while I was in town on a longer stay than expected.

They answered all my questions, made me feel welcomed, and provided me a lifeline that changed the world for me when I was here. Thank you so much!

God I hate this place. Ridiculously high rates for a gym that only offers (majority comp-style) bouldering and gets absolutely mobbed hard by a million people during non-work hours. Astoundingly asinine policy regarding guest passes, you can only use one every 30 days. So if your friends’ passes are going to waste you can’t use them up if you’ve visited within 30 days. They should stop giving people “guest passes” because they’re borderline unusable and offer the illusion of a benefit of membership. Never ever heard of a gym doing this. Don’t worry though you can spend $30 for a day pass. Which is 1.5 of hours pay if you work for minimum wage, just to stand in an amusement park duration line like you’re at Disney World to get on a poorly set comp style boulder and totally sever your rotator cuff. Come with an intact labrum and leave with nothing! The spirit of climbing is absolutely lost on this place, it’s a cash grab and nothing more. Go anywhere else. Geez, I’d rather go to planet fitness and risk setting off the lunk alarm— and they don’t even offer climbing— than spend a cent here!! I wish I could give this place 0 stars.

greedy and predatory pricing. $30 for a day pass, $100 for a membership with a $50 “initiation fee” and a $10 fee to freeze your membership.

the only way you get value out of this if your life revolves around climbing >3x per week.

The annual summer block party obstacle course this year was well designed, well planned, and well managed. The staff were wonderful and friendly.

I enjoy climbing here too. The routes are fun, creative, and felt like the right level of challenging.

Couple of rude workers yesterday, unprofessional and rude towards younger and new climbers. What happened to the welcoming environment, it’s like they’re trying to scare newcomers away. Have been coming for years and bringing in new guests every so often. Hope it was just a bad day, but even then, take your frustration elsewhere. Should be common sense to have nice customer service and not expect everyone to know exactly what they’re doing in a new environment because that’s what the workers seemed like, like they haven’t worked in this environment.

Used to be good but they kept upping the price, no longer worth it. Also really busy so you have to go during off hours. Additionally, they used to give you a number of guest passes to use a month but have since implemented restrictions. (You can’t use it on the same person more than once a month)

Just not worth it in general. I’d check out any other local climbing gym in your area instead.

I went to this gym over the weekend with a friend who was a member. The staff there were unprofessional. The front desk person was upset I didn’t fill out a waiver before coming. It was a spur of the moment idea and I figured they had forms for me to fill out there, which they did. After we filled out the paperwork needed we asked the team if that’s all that was needed. We were ignored, we asked a second time and they rolled their eyes and said no… and went over proper fall guidelines etc. Filling out a form and going over safety measures is expected, but the poor attitude from the staff is not. I’ve been a member at Vertical world, and momentum here in the Seattle area, and numerous other gyms in different cities. I haven’t had this experience at any other gym. Overall the routes are fun, and there’s plenty of space. The gym itself is fine. But I would recommend going somewhere else that welcomes a more fun environment!

It's pretty stingy to not let members use their 2 free guest passes per month how they like. Now you can only bring one particular person once every 30 days. So you still get 2 passes but it's super regulated and I am unclear on the reason why other than what appears to be pure greed. Climbing there is fun though so if you don't mind that the whole pricing structure is set up to take advantage of the customer (making you pay them a whole month even if you're injured, busy, or ill and literally can't climb, yes you can get a doctors note but come on what is this, middle school?) then it is worth it. Just to clarify, if you happen to get injured on the 27th of a month you're already too late to cancel for the next month but if you are injured on the 26th then you only miss out on the last days of the month. Unless you have the extra time and pray that your doctor has an appointment right away and will write you a note. They claim this is to make it "easier" on their staff but they just made it harder on their staff trying to track non members using an SBP members free guess pass to attend the gym more than once per 30 days. So if it helps SBP it's okay for their staff to do some extra work, but if it helps the customers to not be paying during times they can't even use the gym then they claim it's too much work. Convenient...Also not being able to freeze a pre bought year of membership is another massive show that they do not care about their customers but don't need to. They make enough money to alienate long term members and be fine. Part of becoming a corporate money maker I guess. I don't even really have a problem with the massive price hikes since it's so popular, but I don't like how they have it set up so that they are getting money from people who aren't even able to use their gym if they are injured, ill, or some other emergency comes up. But I think the gyms themselves are really fun and so is the climbing. The staff has always been friendly. And with 4 gyms in Seattle you can never complain about the amount of new routes. This place would get an easy 5 stars if I felt their pricing was more fair to the customer.

Routes are a lot of fun and there's enough for it to be worth going 1-2x a week. Note the downstairs gym and Upper Walls as well! Staff here are pretty friendly and I appreciated the 15 minute intro to bouldering my first time. I also recommend coming with a Meetup group or some friends at a similar bouldering level because it's way more fun that way. If you like bouldering enough but don't want to commit to 2+ times a week to make the membership worth the cost, there is a 10 visit punch card (never expires).

Star docked because this particular gym has the worst air quality and constantly smells like feet and sweat. Chalky air is one thing - that's expected - but there's actual layers of dust at the tops of the bouldering walls and you can see dust clumps on the ceiling vents which sometimes fall to the ground. My nose itches like crazy and there's black dust after blowing my nose. So just be warned that if you're sensitive to bad air quality, you may want to wear a mask. This place desperately needs a deep clean + heavy duty air purifier.

Also yes, parking can sometimes be tough but I've never had issues finding a spot somewhere in the neighborhood that was more than a block or two away.

The facility is pretty nice but compared to bp poplar (or bp slc) there's some funky annoying things such as a lack of drinking water downstairs, the separated restroom / shower / changing rooms (bc there isn't enough space for full locker rooms), and no towels.

Climbing is enjoyable but the setting was wildly inconsistent here, like +/- 2 full grades and sometimes really lazy. Routes seem about 1 grade easier here in general.

Has gotten way worse in recent years. They’re a big chain now so that comes with all the good setters leaving, lots of price hikes, and a new guest pass policy where you can’t bring the same friend twice. Super lame. The holds are greasy because they don’t reset enough and it’s always wayyy too busy. I switched to Uplift and it’s way better.

I love this place, but given the recent price hike ($30 +tax) for a day pass, they've successfully passed the price of my monthly gym membership. If you're a beginner, I'd say get a punch card, then explore other options as most competitor gyms are almost $10 less in some cases.

Source: Google

★ 2

It's extremely overpriced and their method of member retention is to mess up your billing on a freeze and to constantly raise the price and bill you even when you ask to cancel.
They made up some system where you have to cancel a week before they bill you or they will bill you anyway and refuse to change it.
In a few months they'll be at 120$ or more a month and will still be pretty Mediocre for the cost.

★ 3

Generally a great bouldering gym with a variety of frequently updated problems for all levels. Huge crowds of 100+ during peak times makes climbing difficult (perhaps having a members only night once a week would help) and the AC issue makes it unbearable when the temperature outside is past 75 or so. We've been climbing mainly at the Poplar. location due to the cooling issues.

It seems MGMT is trying a few different things to cool it down, but I reckon a full system replacement may be needed unfortunately.

I love this place…but over $100 a month is not justified when they have this many members. You have to wait to use any space in the gym or a wall from 4pm on every day. Nearby gyms cost less and are more spacious. Quite literally the weights run out and you have to step over people to get to the other side of the gym. SBP, I highly recommend you better use your space. You have a lot of unused space throughout the gym. For example, the basement stairs area. People rarely use the light board. The kids area is not often used and it is nearly as large as the entire weights area. I think if you better layout your space you can better accommodate your members and make your gym even more awesome!

The setting and atmosphere makes the gym very enjoyable and inviting. Been climbing here on and off for the past couple years, so of course when I find myself on a 7 hr layover in Seattle, I know where I’m going. Turns out this is my last visit unfortunately. When the employee at the desk said “that’ll be $33” as I swiped my card, I was very shocked. $33(after tax) is a big ask for a day pass to a climbing gym imo. I’m sure the employees are paid well, but good lord….
Maybe it’s a marketing ploy to get people to buy the monthly membership? Either way, it was real fun SBP, but I guess this ol boy is retiring from the Seattle plastic…

Beware if you have your account on pause. SBP thinks that $5/month to not use their facilities wasn't enough so they arbitrarily doubled the fee. No reaching out. Just doubled it, for an acct that they know folks arent paying attention to.

this is specifically for the kids camps.

these really aren't 'lessons.' the kids play games and climb around. that's all fine and good, but at almost 25 bucks and hr we were hoping for a little more instruction. if you are looking for a supervised "play on the wall" experience, this is it. but you could probably get it a lot cheaper by joining the gym and going yourself. very pricey. we won't repeat.

Love LOVE this climbing gym. Staff is friendly, the place is clean, great amenities, love the setting at Bouldering Projects. Just an overall lovely climbing gym and atmosphere.

However, the parking here is so bad right now because of multiple giant construction projects on the block. Plus, Seattle City Parking comes around every day, evening and night and will get you with a ticket because they know the parking is atrocious. Or the neighbors in the surrounding neighborhood will come out and yell at your parking. Between 4:30p-7:30p it is really difficult to park within a 3 block radius of the gym.

I called to make sure I could bring my 3 year old in the climb and they were open. I was told yes. After driving 45 minutes and paying for parking I show up and they’re closed for a private kids birthday party. The woman at the front desk took no accountability and basically said oh well deal with it.

Two days later I received an email from Naomi Tran, the program manager at the facility. Naomi provided me with exceptional customer service and proved that, while mistakes can happen, it is what a business does to make things right that matters as none of us are perfect. I look forward to returning to the facility with my son to try it out and climb.

Cons: can be pretty crowded from 530-830 pm but the upper walls helps with that, no water fountain downstairs near the work out area is kind of annoying, the workout area is a bit lacking in machines, tension board holds could use a good cleaning

I used to really love SBP, especially this location. If you can believe it, there was a time when the gym used to be completely empty during the afternoons. However, in the past year or so, the gyms have gotten so busy to the point where you need to show up an hour before yoga classes in order to MAYBE find a parking spot. The gym is so packed at all hours its impossible to enjoy your climb safely.

The influx of new climbers means that there are often children running around the mats, underneath people on the wall, and said new climbers ignore safety procedures. It also has become very unwelcoming for those of us who have been climbing for years. I've witnessed friends get berated by other climbers, have had to stop my route in the middle of climbing when someone else started climbing next to me, have seen people climb when there are people on the mat right underneath them/people not move when others are climbing. There's simply too many people now and theres no way to manage that all of these people will know proper climbing etiquette or safety.

During Covid, the gym had a cap on visitors, and I wish they would've kept that. They really need to stop allowing new members to join, or start rigorously vetting that the ones who do join will respect other climbers.

SBP hasn't felt like a community in years, and this is reflected in the $20 membership increase within the last YEAR. Pricing went from $75 a month to $95 a month in a little over 365 days.

I really like the child programs. It's a great way to get young ones involved. Their outreach is great to the local childcare centers.

I will say that the ventilation is poor and my asthma is immediately triggered. I'm not particularly sensitive, so i think this is a legit concern and I need to go outside within 20 min. The smell is something between feet and chaulk, which is probably exactly that.

It's a welcome addition to the area and it's quite popular. I would echo other statements regarding parking. Bring a bike.

I would have rated this gym 5 stars had an employee not mocked me within 3 minutes of walking into the gym. I can be awkward in person, and I unknowingly used a very awkward mannerism when asking for a day pass. The employee who helped me repeated the mannerism back at me twice in a row. I guess he thought he was being funny. It just made me feel like an idiot, and I find that kind of treatment of another person unacceptable.
Other than that initial negative impression, the gym had excellent V2 and V3 climbs. The routes were creative and some of the most fun climbs I've ever experienced. Keep in mind that I'm from St. Louis where the routes are less than mediocre.
The gym smells pretty bad, like sweat and feet. It also became unbearably crowded after 7pm.
Despite my negative comments, I would climb here again.

★ 1

It's just way too crowded. I've been a member since 2016, previously used the Poplar location, but now living near the Fremont location I'm thinking a membership just isn't worth it - especially with the planned price increases!! I frequently have to cut my workout or climbing session short because there are too many people and not enough space/equipment/routes. I've even tried going late on weeknights but it stays extremely crowded until close.

I think there should be some sort of crowd management - especially for safety reasons! Can't tell you how many near misses I've seen because there's such limited space to maneuver.

★ 3

Look, it is a good climbing gym but it has its issues.

The gym gets intolerably crowded after work hours. This is a common issue at climbing gyms but here, many climbers lack safety etiquette, compounding the issue.

Recent construction has disrupted parking significantly, so you will spend time looking for a spot if you come in the evening.

Grade variability. I understand the color grading scale, but still from set to set the colors seem to move several grade levels on average. Also, there is a lot of slab climbing over large holds and volumes. Watch your shins.

Nice, modern, and relatively clean facility that would otherwise be an excellent gym if it weren’t for the staff. I came to check out the gym about an hour before close. Didn’t climb, just worked out a bit downstairs. About five minutes before close I started putting all my stuff away and headed upstairs to grab my backpack. As I got upstairs (at exactly 10:00) a staff member was throwing all of my clothes and backpack from the top level over the railing to the main level. I was confused but started gathering up my stuff to go. I made a comment to the staff member wondering how my headphones had gotten moved into the lost and found, and she replied “well if you had left when you were supposed to I wouldn’t have had to move them.” I have been climbing for a decade and worked in climbing gyms for five years. Never in my life have I experienced as much snark, condescension, and lack of basic social skills as I did with the staff here. Keep in mind that I was out by 10:03, literally 3 minutes after the gym closed. I just can’t quite understand why the staff have such a terrible attitude towards their customers. Maybe I just got unlucky with the woman I talked to, but I certainly won’t give SBP any more money.

Dope place to boulder in Seattle with fresh routes usually every week! Just make sure to come on non-peak hours. Staff are really friendly, and same can be said with other boulderers, with many willing to help each other out!

My primary concern is parking and after SBP Fremont lost their parking a few weeks ago, finding parking was quite difficult especially during peak hours. Wished there was a nearby lot instead of having to circle around the neighborhood for almost half an hour and risk disturbing local residents.

Great bouldering, lots of walls to climb with very clear level markings. Most higher walls have grips to help get down too, which is great when you're tired at the top of a climb

Generally good and well set more oldschool (as opposed to comp style) bouldering, with friendly staff and good facilities.

But what gets it the 5 star review is that this gym is home to some of the most interesting routes from V0-V2 I've ever seen. I took a new-to-climbing friend there and he enormously enjoyed putting together the puzzles of un-obvious, intimidating looking, but physically un-demanding beginner climbs. So few gyms get this right.

Smaller than Poplar, smaller parking lot as well. But that shouldn't be anything bad. I love the way the gym was designed.

The slab section is one of my favorites and I love just talking about slabs with Colin who works there.

Weekdays before the evenings are nice and quiet. But after 5pm it will start to feel very crowded.

They have an entirely separate building called the "Upper Walls" or something like that, so keep an eye out for that if you need some extra problems

Good problems, lots of area. Avoid peak hours or go to the less busy location. It's just down the street and free if you paid for either place.

I come here for climbing and yoga classes. I've found the other patrons to be nice and supportive. Highly recommend slow flow yoga with Ela on Sunday afternoons to decompress before the week starts.
One complaint I have is that they don't have mirrors in the gym area, which is suboptimal when working out.

This is a great space. Good setting on all the walls and fun routes all around. Weight room in the basement. Parking lot fills up quick and street parking can be tight

First climbing experience was here and I instantly got hooked! Now I go at least a few times a week and am loving it. Tons of fun climbs and a membership gives you three different locations that each have their own perks. Highly recommend if you're into bouldering or want to get into it!

Best bouldering gym in Seattle, possibly one of the best in the country. I've been climbing regularly for about a year and I can say that whether it's your first time or you can climb V10 you will have lots of fun here.

I normally hate bouldering but the problems at this gym were SO interesting! There are just some moves and problems that you can’t experience on top rope. I enjoyed myself and will be going back.

Medium sized climbing area with good weightlifting area downstairs. Barbells are good.

Bouldering grading seems a bit easier than other gyms I've been to.

More compact than the poplar site, but it has all the same resources: substantial gym, yoga studio, moon board, and walls upon walls of problems. I go almost everyday and it serves great as both a gym and social hub.

This is the only bouldering gym I've ever been to, so keep that in mind. I'm also not much of a gym person. But joining this gym has been the best decision I've made for myself lately, both physically and mentally. I love coming here.

The route variety here is great, and the designs are memorable. My friends and I found plenty of enjoyable challenges when we visited here, to a point where we ended up staying for over 2 and a half hours. The workout gym is the best I've seen at a bouldering studio, too. My only complaints are that there isn't good parking nearby and the lockers are physical key based and not a rigidly secure system (the Poplar location does it better).

The setting isn’t always my style and I feel like it’s more comp style than classic bouldering but 🤷🏼‍♀️ such is life. Would really love some mirrors in the lifting area people who are lifting can check their form. But overall mostly positive experiences and the staff has been great. Appreciate the enforcement of vaccine cards or testing.
