Good gym overall, not as many machines as I hoped thou. The only bad part is that the gym is very busy in comparison to how much equipment there is. Pools and hot tubs are good.

I started exercising to help my recovery from a fall from which my left foot and ankle were injured, followed by my back from wearing a stabilizing boot for two months. The boot raised my injured foot higher than any pair of shoes I could compensate with on my right foot. The class was recommended by my physical therapist. I have found that not only does the class I am in help with my injuries, but also with my balance and strength. The class leader is attentive to everyone who participates and communicates with each of us to alert us to changes in scheduling or facility maintenance and remodeling. All staff at the Y have been accommodating and helpful.

When we first started kid zone my daughter had a hard time adjusting, she would cry and throw tantrums and I wouldnβt get much of a work out in- however we kept coming back and with time for adjustment and the staffs help she absolutely loves going to kid zone, the staff are amazing and I feel love my daughter for her authentic self π©·

The pool at Briggs is just the right temperature for lap swimming. Briggs also has a separate activity pool with classes. The staff at the Briggs are welcoming and friendly.
I like the recent upgrades in the women's locker room.

I recently joined this gym like less than a week ago after my previous gyms childcare permanently closed. On 10/13/25 when picking up my kids after working out, as soon as we walk outside of the YMCA my kids both start talking about an inappropriate comment the male staff member made to them. After asking details from my girls and calming myself I go in to speak with kid zone manager and this male staff member. He says he did say that and was laughing when he told me. So I told him it wasnβt appropriate and I donβt know how he jumped from one thing about a snake being in a water bottle to asking was a snake in my kids pants. I cancelled my membership until they answer me on what will be done with this person. Whether it was intended to be weird or not it shouldnβt have been said. I called again to see an update on what will happen with this staff member like if he will continue to be working in the kids room and informed management on my intent to file an informational police report in the event that any other people report on a similar thing .
Update as of today 10/14. The person is on administrative leave until they finish the investigation. A police report has been filed to the local department. The YMCA said they canβt say for certain whether he will continue to be working in there until they close the investigation then they would possibly call me back.
Update as of 10/16 the executive Director of South Sound YMCA called me today to say that they have closed the investigation on this employee there was three other adults in the room that verified that the statement was in fact made regarding a snake being in pants. They reviewed camera footage, which I never implied that he touched my kids. It was the statement, and the opportunity for a child to innocently open their pants in this scenario that I had an issue with. Making any statement like that puts both the child and staff in a weird position. The statement was around a conversation about Halloween in which the initial question that my kids asked was was there a snake in his water bottle because it looks like there was..To which he responded with the phrase No, is there a snake in your pants? The executive director said that they do not feel itβs necessary to remove this person and that they will use this as a training opportunity for him. He will receive internal training and all childrenβs staff members will receive training about this incident. I didnβt realize you needed to train childcare workers to not make inappropriate remarks to kids.
The intent of this review is not to get anyone fired. It is merely to bring awareness to an issue I had experienced while at this YMCA. I do feel he could have been relocated to a different position within the ymca rather than working directly with children. Working with children requires discernment in what we say and do which was clearing lacking.
If anyone follows the moms of Olympia Facebook group you may have seen a post about me from an anonymous member that would never name themselves but they said that I tried to tear apart this personβs image which is incorrect. The fact behind that conversation is I made the initial post in Momβs of Olympia to make people aware of what was going on this anonymous poster got mad and said they were SA in which I also mentioned how I had that happen to me as a child as well. I also said that a similar statement was made to me along the lines of something that was said in this scenario. I was at no point projecting any βunhealed traumaβon anyone. The matter of the fact is the report that was filed to local PD and I told the scenario exactly as it was described to me included everything and they documented it as a suggestive comment involving two minors. So so people can listen or not that is an individual choice that each parent has to make.
On a seperate note the front desk staff was excellent in getting the appropriate person to handle my concern. The membership team was also excellent with both my sign up and cancellation. The facilities and machines are clean.

Usually loved bringing my kids here but the cleanliness has recently gone very downhill. Clumps of hair, visible mold, bandaids on the floor, dirty and scum. Canβt even show photos of the floor because taking photos is prohibited (which, respect but the floors are pretty gross)
They recently βupdatedβ the locker rooms by installing lockers that only reach about three feet tall so itβs very uncomfortable changing in there with your body on full display. Were the showers in the lockers cleaned? No.
Disappointed but hope they can turn it around :/

Review for summer y care
My autistic daughter was kicked from camp without any warning or attempt to help her be more successful. At the beginning of camp we were assured that she would not be removed from camp and if that became a risk we would receive a lot of communication and opportunity to avoid that outcome. With no warning she was removed and wasnβt even given a chance to say goodbye to friends. She had no idea she was at risk of this happening and this experience has left her confidence shaken. She was made to feel small and not worth working with. She has a hard time with unstructured activities and I attempted to give the camp staff techniques to help her succeed and they failed to do so and now my child has to suffer for their incompetence. If Iβd been given any communication that she was at risk of this or that she was struggling so much we could have done more work with her to help her stay in camp.

While some gyms are open 24-7 for members, this worthless establishment closes on June 19th for a minor βHollidayβ that nobody cares about. Avoid the YMCA if you can and go to a real gym that prioritizes its members over using whatever excuse they can find to take time off.

BE CAREFUL!! We canceled our membership because our family could no longer afford. Well we thought THEY DID. We have not stepped foot in a YMCA and they continued to charge our account for over half a year. We pleaded with them to give us the funds back because we OBVIOUSLY were not using any location. They could care less. Absolutely disgusting! What a SCAM they run.

I love the classes here. The instructors are amazing and so friendly! If this was just a review on the facility, I'd give it 5 stars, but it is a business review and I found something out today that dismayed me.
I work with animal rescues and I am super disappointed that they have given permission to breeders (likely backyard breeders, as they were selling out of a kennel with no paperwork) to sell puppies on premises. I talked with the front desk to make sure they knew about it and was told that the breeders have permission to sell outside the Briggs YMCA. As someone who spends time and money trying to find homes for many unwanted animals, this was such a frustration to see in a place in which I love to spend time. Honestly, it's a big deal to me and I'd like to detract more stars for it, but I also want to be fair to the wonderful people who teach there.

Strength training equipment for adults is outdated and almost all the fitness classes are geared toward senior adults and/or offered during the workday. Lap swim hours are also extremely limited in the evenings, and the main pool is alway packed with rowdy rec swimmers on the weekends so lap swimmers are crammed into only a few lanes. This might be an okay Y if you just want to hang out and socialize, but it's terrible for getting an actual workout.

A very "non-competitive" , common- ground, non-judgy, safe-feeling, place. Inclusive of all ages, all abilities. Great equipment. Very kind, helpful staff, and dynamic instructors. Lots of windows, on both floors ( so no "locked-in" discomfort).
I can't help but smile watching kids enthusiastically race into the building, then hear their happy laughs doing fun stuff.
And it's empowering to see people employ discipline; testing/trying their physical limits.
I love to go. And Zumba kicks gluteals!!!

We have had a wonderful experience with the YMCA swimming lessons. A few years ago, we enrolled our kids in swim lessons at a different aquatic facility in Olympia. Sadly, after almost 2 years of instruction at that facility (including semi-private lessons), our children still could not swim. To clarify, when we started swim lessons at the YMCA in July of 2023, my children could not swim any strokes or pass the swim test in the pool. Thankfully we were able to complete multiple week long lesson sessions with much success at the Y. By the end of August 2023, both kids could swim multiple strokes the length of the pool and tread water! They both passed the YMCA swim test by the end of the summer and by the end of September, both passed the lap swim test. My daughter enrolled in the intro to swim team class three months after starting instruction at the Y. The instructors were wonderful and we saw the improvements each week in the kids. We are very thankful for the Y and for their great team of instructors for teaching our kids how to swim and stay safe in the water. I would highly recommend the Y swim lessons to other families.

2.5 β The facilities are ok. Nothing to remark on those, alright building, good selection of classes. I'm giving a lower rating because of cleanliness. Most of the classes that I attended are in the multipurpose room upstairs. The floor is always dirty! They host a youth program and then a yoga class right after. So the kids are tromping around in their dirty shoes, then I'm in there on my hands with my face on/near the floor trying to do yoga or Pilates and there is dirt, hair, small pieces of garbage stuck to my hands and feet when I'm done. It's gross!
It would be nice if the staff ran a push broom over the floor in between classes!

Does leaving a review matter? Does anyone actually care? I've given so much money to this place only to experience major inconsistent hot tub times. The hot tub for me is a vital
/necessary part of healing due to my back issues. I find it silly, I have to call ahead of time when I want to use it. This would save me a trip customer service advises. You don't have to worry about me calling or bothering a customer service person in the future. This service you sometimes offer is always a burden. I'm either waiting 30min past the time it's supposed to open or it just isn't open to use at all. The hot tub doesn't impact the majority so I don't expect change to ever happen. If you're reading this, get used to more disappointment from this gym. I canceled my family membership without any concern, questions, or comments from the rep. I'm not looking for a Dr. Phil response. Its nice to be treated like someone who matters to an organization. I understand now they don't see you as a person. Rather you're just a means to an end to them. Well good luck in your fitness goals, I hope you are treated better than I.

Itβs alright. Family membership with 2 kids is $100/mo. The youth enrichment programs are $10 for a 4 week class, which sounds cheaper but you still have to take into account the extra cost of the membership, but also doesnβt hit the wallet if your kid chooses not to go. Thereβs a good variety, from nature stuff to legos to rock climbing to ballet. Some times the classes are overcrowded. The kids night out is expensive for a couple
hours. Wish the gym spaces/ flex spaces were bigger, itβs hard to stretch or do your own hiit without feeling like youβre in the way.

I like the pool but I feel like it's over chlorinated. My eyes always hurt afterwards. There are a lot of really nice lifeguards there but there are a few that are kind of rude or like to flirt with the other girl lifeguards too much. Not sure which is it. Saw a health and safety inspector in the pool area with their street shoes on along with one of the board of directors in the pool area with their street shoes on and then they giggled when we said it was gross. Got some mixed feelings about this Y. But it's one of the only few places I can teach my child to swim. The women's locker room seriously needs a revamp. And the family changing room is very exposed with a big window facing the pool and really gross curtains that I don't want to touch. I feel uncomfortable changing there. The women's locker room headed to the pool area is really nasty like the floor stained so I hope but it's pretty gross and the locker is definitely need some help. I had a lady in there with me today whose stuff got locked in the lockers. They did get it open but it took a bit. 90% of the staff is extremely nice though.

The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The instructor (Dan) provides the same level of attention to all of the students in the class and very considerate to each of his students' level of experience in swimming.

When attending swim lessons for your kids there is not enough seating, classes can be too crowded and the "family changing" area is always full. It was much easier in the morning classes in the summer to bring a 5 year old to swim.

The staff has always been welcoming and attentive to any questions that I might have. We have attended family friendly classes and utilized the personal exercise machines individually and as a family. The layout is unique but not hard to maneuver. Clean female locker room and the bathing suit drier is pretty convenient.

The Y has really dropped the ball when it comes to their big pool. Most of us are seniors. For some reason they have decided to freeze us out. The pool should be between 80-82. Donβt know why but they dropped it to 79-80. Some of the ladies have to quit because it make their bones hurt, or some have resorted to wearing neoprene jackets. The have been talked to about this but obviously donβt care. If your wanting to do water Aerobics pick another place!
