I really enjoy this Y location; it’s one of the two branches I frequent regularly. The main gym is spacious and well-kept, featuring three separate squat racks and plenty of machines. The second-floor seating area is perfect for catching up on work or reading in between workouts.

I enjoy going to this YMCA - to lift weights and swim. While swimming lanes sometimes could get busy, overall I think it is a nice gym and our family enjoys it. Staff is super-friendly and always smiling when greeting you at the door. The equipment is good and the gym is not overly crowded in the mornings.

My children are part of the basketball team associated with YMCA, my husband is a member, I am not.
Today we went to YMCA coal creek to watch my younger son play, everyone went in, I was denied access at the entrance. Now this is not the first time I came to be a spectator, I had gone through the process of entering all personal information, taking a picture on file, associating my information with the member, to get a piece of card that acts like a pass together with my drivers license for me to show to the staff at the entrance before I’ was allowed in.

This time, they told me that I don’t have the right account to go watch my son play basketball. I was asked to go to the front desk, give my drivers license to the staff again, give my children’s name and birthday, then log into their web site to create an account, where I had to enter:
1 my legal names
2 my date of birth mm/dd/yyyy
3 email
4 phone number

In addition to all these, I have to provide an emergency contact and their email and phone number, and signing four waivers including one data privacy document which the staff told me is to establish protection of YMCA not the person who registers. Which makes no sense.

When asked why does YMCA need all the personally identifiable information just for a mom to sit in the gym to cheer her son on in a basketball game, the staff coldly replied β€œthis is a requirement from YMCA.” When I asked them, why do I need to create an account with YMCA when as an individual, I don’t use any of its facilities other than…maybe a chair? The answer was again dismissive. This is for us to do background checks on everyone to prevent sex offenders. (This might be true for employees applying to work at YMCA, but to a mom to watch her son play basketball?!)

After going through all the steps they asked me to do, providing all my PII data to a place I don’t wish to become a member of, I was given the permission to enter. Only to miss my son score and the entire of first quarter. Behind me was a grandma visiting out of town, and they put her through that degrading and painful process too.

I was a member of YMCA coal creek for a little while, only to be deterred by the unsanitary treadmill and decided to cancel my membership. Throughout my life, there was only one company that would enrage me this much with unnecessary policies and condescending attitude to have me sworn to boycott for life.

YMCA Coal creek is now the second one. We are now actively looking for other basketball programs that do not require using YMCA facilities.

Ironic how for a place prides in promoting the sense of community when they make it so difficult for non-members to engage. The entire experience was like applying to a top tier gym, the differences are it is not. And that I wasn’t interested in becoming a member at all, I just wanted to watch my child play basketball.

This gym is a classic example where people pay more but get less. If you carefully review comments here you’ll understand.
1. They make mistakes on payment and receipt and are unwilling to correct mistakes. They mistakenly used my wife as the family membership owner which made me unable to reimburse my membership fee. Of course they admitted the mistake but unwilling to correct it. I lost thousands of dollars.

2. Staff don’t care about your experience at all. E.g, today the roof is leaking and the floor under the basket is wet but they just closed the whole court even another half of the court is totally good. This is one of many examples. They just wanna get less trouble. That’s all.

3. Swimming pool and basketball court is almost unusable. There is no reservation mechanism on swimming pool so it’s totally a mess. It’s really not so hard to have a reservation system to make much better experience but they are simply lazy to do so. Basketball court is the opposite. It’s reserved almost every weekday. One court will be used for children classes. Another court is used for full court game. If you’re a beginner or cannot join in the heavy competition due to injury, there is no space for you.

They have rules for rules here, but there isn't any real competition, so it is good enough. On a positive note, the employees are friendly and the facility is in good shape.

I would not recommend enrolling your kids in any basketball classes at this YMCA. My child had a terrible experience in the first class and I had to take him out. It was not the only kid crying - several other children were clearly distressed and overwhelmed as well.

The staff running the class did not seem to have any experience or training in working with young children. They were not able to control the class or provide a positive, supportive environment. My child was left feeling frustrated and scared, and I had to remove him from the situation.

When I went to request a refund for the unused classes, the YMCA staff were completely unhelpful and refused to provide a refund. They showed no empathy or willingness to make the situation right.

Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. The YMCA clearly does not have the right programs or personnel in place to properly care for and engage young kids. I would strongly caution any parents against signing their children up for activities here. Save your money and find a more child-friendly facility.

My kids love to visit YMCA. Everything is good quality. Instructors are knowledgeable and nice. It has reasonable pricing for membership and other courses. They offer free coffee to members. There is a nice waiting area on the second floor for parents to wait for kids while they do their class.
Update: I visited the facility during open recreational swim and but just after 10 minutes I was told that someone puked in the pool. I had to leave right away and they had no ETA on by when they will clean the pool :(
Update: Moved to 1 star as there was no 0. I was insulted by a lifeguard when I entered the pool at 6:13:30 and told to Get out of the pool because as per him, the pool recreational time starts at 6:15:00 PM. I told him that the website has listed 6:10 PM but he told me to Get out. They had nowhere listed on the notice board that the time is 6:15 and that they are not following the website time of 6:10 PM. There was no need to insult with just one and a half minute left in the recreational time. The lifeguard shouldn't have given us red and green bands if they wanted us to wait to enter the pool. I'm going to cancel my family membership for now, because nobody wants to go to a club just to get insulted for no reason and spoil their mood.

A gem of a YMCA in my opinion! I say with this with some jealous as we wish it was our local Y and hope to return some day as the kids said it was their favorite.

Why this Y is a gem?

*Kid zone was great and I liked that my kids were kept together (we did go on a weekend).

*Decent size gym with the equipment I needed.

*Basketball courts (2 of them).

*Rock climbing wall.

*A pool with slides! (I wish we had the time to enjoy).

*Kind staff & plenty of parking.

Hot tips!
+ There is a trail literally next to the Y this is pretty.

+More large nature trails with 5-7 mins driving distance.

Check this Y out if in the area!

I am surprised by the good reviews for this place but I cannot disagree any more. The showrs and locker rooms are extremely dirty and gross. Using the swimming pool for lap swim is almost impossible with kids splashing around in it. The price is relatively high for what you get. Save yourself and go to 425 fitness in Issaquah and enjoy the nice clean facility.

β˜… 1

The extremely low quality of this YMCA shocked my wife and I. We had a free trial pass to see if we wanted to join, but it took us one visit to decide this is really a terrible facility.

The locker rooms are disgusting. I almost vomited at the smell and the filth. I don't know how anyone could go in there regularly in the state it is in.

The pool is very overcrowded, and the lifeguards who clearly are children themselves do not manage the pool effectively. The lap pool is for SWIMMING LAPS, not for people to play in the lanes or just mess around while people are swimming laps.

I honestly cannot believe how bad this place is, and especially for a $150/month. Extremely overcrowded, filthy, and overpriced. We ended up getting a membership at 425 Fitness. For the same price, it is a much nicer facility, clean, and has nicer amenities like steam room, sauna, nice clean locker rooms and massage chairs. I still can't understand how a public YMCA could be so expensive, but even if Coal Creek was $30/month we still wouldn't go there.

The pools are miserably poor-organized. No matter whether we signed up for group class or private class, we see a new instructor every time. Many of them are incapable as just some high school kids looking for some extra cash. Last year 6 of my 8 private classes were cancelled or rescheduled last minutes.

Other kids activities are not great either. STEM class instructors were never prepared. They read some material prepared by somebody else on site and they are even confused themselves.

Price wise it’s cheap but maybe you will like it if you are an adult

Enjoy coming to the Y, and I like the convenient hours, access to indoor heated pools and clean facilities. The Kids Zone is very useful for us. We get a workout, and the kids get supervised play time. Win-win! Only docking a star because the showers aren't always in the best conditions, and not enough during peak hours. But overall, it's hard to beat the value you get for your dollars.

I used to love coming here when my boys were young. Unfortunately, their swim lessons are useless. My boys had lessons for about FOUR MONTHS and still can't swim. Don't waste your time with swim lessons.

Now they've raised the prices of membership up beyond the price of local gyms, so why come to the Y after the kids are over age 10?

Recently moved to WA from the east coast. Our other ymca was THE place to be. This one is definitely smaller and not as new BUT it has a good vibe to it. Bigger is not always better. It’s never busy, it has all the equipment and weights I need/use. A good selection of classes. And the childcare is amazing. We had awesome childcare at our last Y, so I was skeptical we’d find anything as good. But my kids LOVE it here. The staff actually plays with them and interacts with them. They have cool crafts every day.
And they’ve announced they are bringing Les Mills programs. Which is huge. Good things to come. We debated joining another local gym but I’m so grateful we choose the Y.

The pool schedule has more black out dates and times than the worse pothole plagued road in Seattle. Family recreational swim is only available for 45 minutes on Thursday and 4 hours each on Friday, Saturday & Sunday.

Meanwhile, while the recreational pool is empty and closed the lap pool is open.

This is not at all what I expected going into a $150/mo membership.

OPEN MORE POOL HOURS!

Additionally, customer service via phone is terrible. I hope you never have to call them to talk to a human, because you're likely never going to get through to one. The robot menu returns you to the main menu before you can quickly and easily get to a real person.

The place location is convenient. They offer many classes including swimming for kidos. I am giving 5 stars because i had some bad experience from one of the staff members. He didn’t deal nicely with us. Other staff members are nice though. I also didn’t like the swimming class instructor. The class was not quite useful for my kids. I don’t know why. Maybe because of covid as he can’t touch any kid so my husband was doing the whole work with them.

I have been here a few month . This place is very small with too many people using ! No parking space most of time i went and spent good ten minutes to find space to park ! inefficient system. If you forget your membership card , you have to go to front desk where all the business going , new registration, information guide etc , taking forever standing in the line to just get in. When I ask person in check in desk who was not doing anything , if you can get me in with my id , she said no it is policy !! Our family really enjoys this YMCA. We love the childcare and parent's night out as well as the pool. One of our favorite activities is Kendra's hip hop dance classes for kids which are included in the price of membership. Kendra really does an amazing job of getting a group of kids that vary widely in age and ability to come together and perform a routine. She goes out of her way to learn all the kids names and make everyone feel included even though the composition of the class is constantly changing. The only downside to this YMCA is that parking can be limited during peak hours and the parking lot on the back of the building dead ends making it hard to turn around if you can't find a spot. They do offer valet parking during peak hours but really additional parking is needed.

Environment is active. Best part is the location(full of greenary). I wish there were a bus stop(bus is going places where there are hardly any people, in comparison this place is packed). Considering the monthly rate, everyone should have a locker or they could have a wall-climbing facility built into one of the room. I guess people with kids have different experience. There are some group training as well (never tried it) . I wish they have a sitting arrangement outside to enjoy the environment. I wanted to cancel summer camp reservations I made for my girls today 4/ 26/16 for camp that starts in 6/27/16 and was rudely told I can only get a credit not a refund. Matter of fact, it clearly states on their site that you can cancel your kid's enrollment a week before camp starts. No where on the website did it say about not getting a refund or any mentions of credit. Was literally dismissed when I pointed out that I could cancel my kids enrollment occurring to their site. Nice and clean facility, a little outdated though. Really friendly staff. Usually really cramped, so much so they set time limits on using the machines and I have difficulty finding parking.

Great selection of equipment and friendly people! The personal trainers are knowledgeable and friendly. Weight selection is adequate. Could use another EZ Bar and a few more free weight options but over all a very great place!

I went to YMCA for the swimming class enrollment in April 2018. They charge me membership fee along with the swimming class fee at that time. The swimming class would start after one month and I thought I pre-paid membership fee for next month. The customer service representative did not clear to me that they are charging the membership fee for the current month for which I intended not to use the facility. She could tell me that I can put on hold membership for current month but did not remind me to save money.
When they charge me for May 2018 I reached out to them but refuses to adjust or return any money. I thought they make me fool and took my money for April. This is not ethical business practice.

I went to facility to discuss my concern that representative did not mention for which month she charged the membership fee during the registration. The manager requested me to discuss the issue in her office.
She did not acknowledge that there was mistake on their end and commanded me to leave the office immediately. She was very rude and unprofessional. I am surprised that how she become the manager!!! She does not know how to behave with customer.

I just left this facility after walking in to obtain a guest pass. Let me tell you my first impression. Huge lines and ymca staff was not handling it well. For the 4 people waiting to obtain passes or anything computer related they just said "when we have computers available we will get to you." Mind you not I waited 30 minutes. And still no computer. Maybe they should think about investing in more computers if they have such rush hours at night? Their customer service was bad as well. It was more not making eye contact and just side stating we can't enter while doing other things running around. No proper explanation, nothing. I wont be buying a pass here for sure

Swimming Pools are too cold for both kids and adults.
Kids zone upstairs staffs talked loud and gather to talk more than keep an eyes on the kids.

Extremely helpful staff, very clean facility and a ton of services all at a great price. My girls love the pool and I love how attentive and efficient the lifeguards are with them.

The facility is beautiful, the staff is friendly, but frequently often the cardio equipment is not working - either the TVs are out or the equipment itself doesn't accelerate/incline/etc. I encounter at least one, and usually 2 or machines that don't work, before I find one I can use. This happens at least every other time I go there - and I go to there at least once a week.

The only mechanism they seem to have in place to address problem is for patrons to walk back down the stairs and report a problem with a machine. They do not have a system in place to regularly check the equipment.

In addition, they have very short windows for adult lap swimming. I actually drive to the Bellevue Y if I want to swim.

At this point, we're debating whether or not to keep our membership.
