The instructors at counterforce are amazing. We are new to the counterforce martial arts(taekwondo)program. My son is 7 in the beginner group. He loves it! They are very patient, caring snd supportive in teaching our kids such a great art form through technique, skill and dedication. I highly recommend this place for any one looking for a great experience learning this art form!

I can’t say enough positive things about Counterforce. They are a professional, courteous, and wonderful community to be apart of. Every child is welcome here and will learn skills that can serve them for the rest of their lives. The instructors will learn your child’s name and really get to know them on a personal level and give them the attention they need to be successful. Parents are welcome and encouraged to stay and watch sessions. It’s also a great way to meet the other parents. There are adult classes as well, so you could train as a whole family. The schedule has many offerings during the week and Saturday, so you’ll be able to find time to participate. Overall, this is an excellent dojang and a gem of Burien. Don’t hesitate to join. You won’t regret it.

This was my daughter's first time ever doing a sport or consistently being around other kids, they made her feel very welcoming and she warmed up very quick. Kiara had a smile on her face the whole time she was on the mat, so I know she loved it. Every instructor was very caring and patient with the kids & i loved watching it. I highly, highly recommend these guys. :)

This is more than a dojang. It's a community, a family. Master Himor and his team are amazing. They focus on holistic learning and a growth mindset. It's always filled with positive, encouraging energy. As a dojang, there are kid parties (aka parent date night), tournaments, community events, fundraisers, food drives, and outdoor training sessions. They break up the week into different training focus areas like poomsae or high intensity training. It has been powerful for my kids physically, mentally, and emotionally. It has helped them develop more than any other camp or sport. I can't say enough nice things about these people and this institution.

I have nothing but positive things to say about Counterforce Taekwondo. Our eldest daughter started when she was 5 after attending a friend’s birthday party there. She had been very shy at the bday party and didn’t participate in the activities but afterwards was asking us to sign her up. CFTKD has an amazing program for kids ages 4-6 “The little masters”. Each lesson day for the week has a different focus, agility, poomsae (translates to patterns, like kata for karate) and sparring. Master Himor and the other instructors really take and individual interest in each students development and there are opportunities to lead the class in warm up or show off a well practice skill for the class. We’ve seen a huge improvement in our child’s coordination and confidence and have now signed up our younger daughter as well. We have done the classes, summer camps, and had birthday parties hosted there (highly recommend). The instructors are always kind, thoughtful and patient. I could go on for ages but if you are looking for a martial arts studio for yourself or your children I highly recommend CFTKD.

My 2 kids (7 and 10yrs) have been going to Counterforce for about a year now, and our whole family loves it. The kids adore all of the Masters and other instructors, and I am always impressed with the patience and attention shown to all of the kids. My kids have progressed so much in just a year, and I really see a difference in their confidence and discipline. Counterforce has managed to find a great balance between skills training, conditioning, and fun. My kids genuinely enjoy class and it's so great for them to have goals (like earning new belts).

We also recently had my 7 year old's birthday party here, and it was an absolute blast. There were about 5 team members assisting with the party and they had plenty of activities planned that kept all the kids (and adults) having fun for the entire party. I was so, so impressed and to date it is our family's favorite place we've had a birthday party.
Burien is genuinely lucky to have Counterforce, and I HIGHLY recommend it to everyone.

We miss this place so much. Mr. Ray and Mr Himor. Really have a great passion for their students. My son connected with the instructor, students and made such wonderful friendships. The team at counterforce, especially Master Chris and Master Ray, are top notch. They provide attention to students helping them foster strong confidence and bonds with their fellow students. They find a way to make classes fun while ensuring they are getting the education needed to learn and one day master the art of Taekwondo. We enrolled our niece as a student and immediately began to watch her flourish. She was able to connect with kids her age which was near impossible for her during COVID. She took her classes seriously, even as a 7yr old, and was excited to move up in belts. The Rays (owners) are so great. Mrs Ray is the epitome of humorous kindness. Master Ray is insanely patient with large groups of easily distractable and hyper kids. Since Master and Mrs. Ray have taken over, the gym went through a nice makeover and replaced the old equipment. They are both very nice and knowledgeable owners.
We do family TKD classes, something not many other gyms offer. This dojang is very friendly to adult and young learners alike.
Master Ray brings energy and skill to every class and pushes all of us to do our best. Every day we work on different things from basic skills, to poomsae forms, to using different weapons, to sparring. They offer several classes everyday and one on Saturdays.
Overall, a great workout for the mind, body, and spirit for all.
