This gym is complete amateur hour. Went to the gym on the weekend and took a couple classes here and there.
1. The owner of the gym most def went up in the upper area smoked some weed, made the whole gym smell like weed and came down. Be professional.
2. Each class starts 10-20 minutes if itβs coached by the owner. Essentially stealing 15% of your money each class.
3. Pads have clearly not been cleaned in forever and smell terrible + the water fountain is busted.
Running a small business can be hard I get that, but a child could have better diligence. The uw students who work there and front desk employees are nice though.

Tonight I watched my son in a smoker sparring for the first time. He did amazing. The owner runs a respectful match where amateurs can find their talents and their comfort zones. Cheerful, upbeat, casual, and friendly. We talked with an older man who recently started boxing! He shared that Alzheimers and Parkinsons can be helped by boxing. The muscle memory and repetitive tasks are very good for both of these. Such a cool experience for me, I'd never been in a boxing gym before!

I am truly grateful for being a member at Emerald City Boxing Gym.
I got into boxing recreationally one summer at a UFC gym near my hometown, but what really got me hooked onto the sport was getting a membership at ECBG. At first, I was worried about getting hit in the head (which is a completely valid concern). Also, I thought that a relatively small, more intimate gym would be extremely intimidating -- chock-full of aggressive people with chips on their shoulders -- but I was immediately proven wrong from the moment I entered. Upon first stepping into the gym, I was met by Russell, the owner, who, with a smile on his face, encouraged me to sign up for a 1-hour "group fitness" class with a trainer. During the class, I was taught all the basics -- the stance, movements and the punches. The instructor, Phil, was kind enough to spend 1-on-1 time with me to ensure I learned the basics, especially before I joined the rest of the group in practicing with them. Even then, everyone in the class was very welcoming regardless of my level of experience. The class was very tiring even after taking multiple water breaks over the course of the 1-hour period, and I went home that day absolutely exhausted, yet feeling extremely rewarded. I went home thinking that boxing was an extremely tiring, rigorous sport, but something about the atmosphere of the gym, the candor of the instructor and the camaraderie of my classmates led me to keep coming back. I came back multiple times each week over the course of a few months to take more classes, and every class, even if they involved different instructors and members, felt instrumental in helping me grow as a boxer. As I took more classes, my stamina improved, I became stronger and developed my technique through conditioning. I eventually became confident in my boxing abilities to start sparring with other gym members, who were all very accommodating of my skill level and weight difference when I practiced against them. (The unspoken rule of sparring is you go as hard as your opponent does, so if you don't want to get hit in the head with haymakers, don't throw them yourself.) I even got to showcase my abilities by competing in an exhibition match (known as a smoker) hosted by ECBG, which was extremely exciting and rewarding for me -- and quite the show for my friends and family. Over the course of six months of taking classes and sparring, I felt that I had not only grown stronger physically, but also mentally. From when you're thinking on your toes while practicing combos in the mirror to employing your mental fortitude to stay concentrated while fighting against an opponent, boxing actually really does toughen you up mentally. There are countless other benefits of the sport, but I'll leave that up to you to explore. And I don't think there's a better place to do so than at ECBG. So if you've always been interested in boxing but on the fence about actually joining it, full send it and get a membership. It's not all about getting hit in the head.

I moved from out of state and have not found any gym close to Emerald City. Love coming whenever I'm back in seattle! I attended the group classes for 7 months 5-6x a week. Russ and staff are superb and will get you wanting to fight Mike Tyson! Whatever your fitness level or skill level, the environment is inviting to all and will get you in the best shape of your life. I cannot recommend this place enough for all groups.

Love all of the instructors here and their energy! Jesse (fun), Frankie (approachable), Chris (fun), and Russell (funny) will give you feedback especially if they notice areas of improvement such as your form and technique. The gym goers are friendly and they definitely set a welcoming tone for all genders. Classes are doable and challenging!
This is not a franchise where they pressure you to come which is a great approach to entice you to return.
Highly recommend if you want to try out boxing or looking to up your game!π₯π

Love this place so much. The UW boxing team trains here, so right away it feels legit, positive, and classy in there, yet it also somehow remains comfortable and laid back. There's even a really cute and friendly dog running around the place sometimes. Very welcoming. Plenty of newbies and amateurs. Miraculously low d*bag count, especially for a combat sports gym (couldn't name even one). I'm not even a boxer. I just go to hit the bags freestyle for exercise and enjoyment. At the going rate of $77.07 / month it's the best deal I've found for punching bags to hit in Seattle. There are classes and individual instruction available, too. They are very flexible about membership, so you could easily try it out and cancel. These are good, honest, community-minded people.

Just attended my second class. I was nervous at first, knowing nothing about boxing, but Russell is awesome and is such a positive and passionate instructor. As much as I would love to keep this place to myself , doing so would cheat others from having the experience I have had during my first two visits. The place is very clean, well maintained, and open. As nice as that is,the presentation isn't the best part. The staff is what differentiates it from other gyms. They are very friendly, helpful and understanding of one's exposure or lack thereof to boxing. They are doing their best to get a middle -aged person like myself an adequate boxing skill foundation that can be used to enhance my fitness level. I am already using muscles I forgot existed. I signed up for the monthly classes and open gym. I am not a serious boxer but with it being home to the UW boxing team and the dedication I see from the staff, I don't think it is a stretch that it will work well for someone with that goal in mind.

Absolutely love this gym! Owners, Chloe & Russell, are very supportive and welcome to boxers of all skill levels. First class was free, great 1 hour classes that have my shirt drenched in sweat; each class is different and the 2 minute bell keeps the class moving and provides a variety of workouts in that hour. Location is great and the name of the gym is a one of a kind!

If you want to sweat like crazy while learning and mastering your boxing skills and techniques in the most fun and supporting atmosphere this is THE place! Russell is naturally gifted instructor - his classes are awesome - challenging and motivating with great dynamic. Open gym offers all the equipment needed to train solo. Both, Russell and Chloe give you personal attention and addressing any of your questions in the most friendly and professional way.
And one more thing - my 13 years old son is training with Russell in the gym and he truly adores him and enjoys his boxing classes. Russell has a great approach to kids - he is an authority and a buddy in one person, encouraging and supporting trainer.

Sweating the whole time, I learned lots through the one on one coaching we got in our small group workout with Russell, the lead trainer. He taught us the basics and even let us try to knock him out at the end of our first class. It's uncanny how quickly he can dodge a jab. I'm looking forward to developing my reflexes, speed and strength to be able to at least land one hit.
Chloe, the owner and manager, was great at showing us how to wrap our wrists to avoid injury. She explained everything we needed to get the most out of out monthly membership which can be canceled at any time. They provide boxing gloves, wrist wrap and a water fountain.
I would love to work out every day at this gym!
