I have been coming here for about a year now. This place has saved my body. I have been in chronic pain for as long as I can remember. After about two months I realized I was no longer in pain. It has been a life changing situation for me. This is more like physical therapy + gym + massage. The level of attention is so different than even most personal trainers I have had. I leave feeling aligned and stronger each time. This has truly become my happy place!

Jessica, the owner, is more talented than most physical therapists I have worked with. She develops a personalized movement practice that helps develop physical healing and strength, in addition to self-awareness that pays dividends in building your own practice outside of her studio, be it a home practice of exercises that she will develop with you, or recommendations to local medical practitioners who will help in other areas of life.
Also: her studio is gorgeous and cozy. If you're thinking about investing in your joint and spine health in ways that will benefit you for years to come, then I cannot recommend Emerald City Pilates enough.

I’ve been doing Pilates with Jessica for 4 years now. Jessica is very knowledgeable of how muscles/joints/etc. work together, which is very important to me as I have chronic back issues. She’s able to customize the exercises to make sure they are aligned with my goal and what my body needs, and most importantly makes every session fun. She is such a big help in my recovery journey. I have a weekly appointment here that I look forward to from the moment the previous session is over. It's my happy place. I get a solid core workout, stretch all the unhappy tight spots, and usually laugh as well because Jessica is hilarious! I would do two appointments a week if I had the time. The location is close to 99 and parking is easy, making it basically painless for me to get there from West Seattle.

Doing pilates with Jessica during my pregnancy a few years ago was one of the best decisions I made to build and maintain core strength with a changing body. I found Jessica after my spine specialist recommended 1:1 pilates to work on my deep core. When she first saw me, my lower back pain was so bad that I had trouble sitting -- but after a few months of regular classes I've learnt to move better, and it's like I now have a scientific manual of how my body works.

I started Pilates many years ago when I lived on the East Coast. After I moved to Seattle, I procrastinated on finding a new Pilates studio, and a few years passed before I got around to fixing that. I chose Emerald City Pilates because the instructors are certified in Stott Pilates, which I prefer because of its emphasis on functional fitness and injury prevention.
Deborah is a very knowledgeable instructor. Her cues and explanations are great and I really appreciate the one on one attention. My sessions with Deborah have reminded me of why I love Pilates. I leave feeling stronger, more flexible and calmer than when I arrived.

I love emerald city Pilates. Jess is so knowledgeable and fun! The studio is so comfortable and non-intimidating, yet I feel stronger with every session. I’m a cyclist for fun and I’ve wanted to get more flexible and strong so I can be faster when I ride and feel more in shape. I’ve only been working with Jess for a short time but since I’ve incorporated my sessions, I’ve had several PRs during my rides, improved my cardio function and my FTP has gone up by ten points also. I also love that it feels so good but it’s not so hard that I never want to return. She knows what your body needs and what you can handle without injuring you or overdoing it. Emerald City Pilates has helped my ribs pain and lower back pain so much. I was in a car crash that resulted in ribs injury 2 years ago. My chest and left shoulder hurts when I need to sit and stand for a long time, and I feel much better after the sessions. I started Pilates because my physical therapist and doctor recommended it to strengthen my core and alleviate lower back pain. I was specifically looking for a private Pilates class with a knowledgeable instructor who could focus on my posture and adjust the exercise intensity as needed.
Emerald Pilates turned out to be exactly what I needed. Jessica, the instructor, is an expert in body muscles and the spine. She explains everything clearly, helping me understand how to perform the exercises correctly. She also gradually increases the exercise intensity, allowing me to keep up with the class and make consistent progress. Since starting sessions with her, my lower back pain has improved. :)
I highly recommend Emerald Pilates to anyone who wants to understand their body better, improve posture, strengthen core muscles, or deal with back pain like mine.

After trying out several Pilates studios and working with various private instructors, I can confidently say that Deborah at Emerald City Pilates is simply the best. Her expertise in understanding the human body muscle systems is exceptional, and she customizes every training session to meet my specific needs. I have very bad SI joint & lower back pain after giving birth along with some posture concerns. I feel relief and relaxed every time after I working out with Deborah. My PT recommended I start Pilates to strengthen my core and back post partum. I was nervous to start exercising again because I had injured myself with an at home workout pre-pregnancy. I came to Emerald City Pilates from a friend's recommendation, and my experience with Deborah during the new client session was fantastic. Her detailed instructions and feedback were helpful. The session helped me gain a better understanding of my body, and remarkably, my lower back pain eased afterward. Deborah also provided exercises for home practice, which I found incredibly useful. Deborah is amazing! I've worked with Deborah for about 10 months now and I've seen great progress on my two goals. First, I wanted to have less pain in my shoulders and lower back from my sedentary desk job. Deborah picked exercises for us to do together to relieve my stiffness and tension, and also showed me stretches I could do at home. Second, I had mysterious pain in my knees, ankles, and feet whenever I went for long walks. Deborah had a hypothesis about which of my muscles were weaker and less engaged, potentially leading to imbalance in my walking. (She also encouraged me to talk to a physical therapist or doctor, to be clear!) We worked on strengthening those muscles over several months and I no longer have walking pain!
Aside from those specific positive changes, I've been having fun learning about pilates and anatomy. My core strength has gotten a lot better. I appreciate that Deborah took my lifestyle into account and designed sessions tailored to my needs (weight lifting 2-3x/week and a sedentary desk job otherwise).

I started as a new client with Hali and Deborah. I have joined each of their private pilates sessions one time so far. After those sessions, I felt relaxed and refreshed and I’m looking forward to continuing membership with both of them!
The instructors are professional and nice. Hali’s session is very easy to follow. She provides very good feedback for me to improve. She also created dedicated training plan for me to follow which covers more than I expected. I also came to know that Deborah has rock climbing experience. In addition to the clear instructions and great feedbacks, she can really relate to how I need to adjust my positions to maximize my pilates experience for rock climbing.
The studio is very clean and offers different kinds of equipments. I feel safe working on those equipments with guidance provided by the instructors. I really recommend this place if you are looking for pilates studio.

This is the best Pilates studio I’ve ever been to and I was hooked after my first session. Hali is a fantastic instructor! She really listens to any concerns you may have and tailors your session to accommodate it. I had a minor knee injury four months ago and not only is she mindful of avoiding any exercises that would cause stress to it, my knee is actually less sore since I started my classes with her. I can feel the difference with her classes that help strengthen and relax at the same time. The studio itself is beautiful and clean, very well maintained. Hali has so much great experience in Pilates and conditioning and it shows with her attention to the details. Every session is customized to me personally and I’m looking forward to many more classes with Hali.

Had a great session with Hali Erickson. It was my first time doing Pilates and she was very patient with me and did a great job explaining how to position my body and which muscles to engage to get the most benefit from the different exercises. She really took the time to explain things and make sure I got it instead just breezing through. I appreciated that she really tailored to session to go at a pace that flowed well for me. I was having pain in my upper back and shoulders from sitting for work, so I found Jessica and decided to learn Pilates. It turns out that Pilates really helped me with my posture and pain.
Jessica is so knowledgeable in human body, therefore, I learned more about how my body works so that I can take care of myself at home. Besides, I learned a lot from her about how to do stretch before and after running, which helped me prevent injuries.

Jessica is so knowledgeable about the human body and Pilates techniques. I recently started Pilates here, first with Jessica, and now with Deborah who is new to the studio!
I have thoroughly enjoyed working with both of them. Each act with extraordinary care while pushing me a bit further each session. After just a few sessions, the pain I was experiencing from a ~2 month period of sedentary lifestyle went away completely.

I've been going to ECP for about a year, and I've really enjoyed my experience. The first thing Jessie does when I walk in the door is ask me how I'm feeling, and tailors my session to address both specific issues I'm having and my long term goals. I know she's trained extensively and understands how to work the body to get results, even if you're dealing with a bum knee or back issues. I also appreciate that the studio is clean and all the Pilates apparatuses and equipment are in tip-top shape (plus the heated floor mat in the winter; it's another example of her attention to detail).
Jessie is serious about the work but believes in having fun while doing it. Our sessions fly by because we're laughing through the exercises. It's one of the bright spots of my week.

I have worked with Jessica (the owner of Emerald City Pilates) for about 3-4 month now. I have had a very challenging issue that PT couldn't help me with. Their standard exercises weren't personalized enough to help me with my problem. Jess created a workout that met me where I was, and had me focus on some very important building block areas. After going to Jess for 2 1/2 months my body was strong enough to start PT in addition to my Pilates sessions. I find the two modalities both work well together, with Jess working on my whole body and core strength and the PT working only on the one issue. I believe that my time spent in my private sessions has saved me much pain and frustration. In addition to how great it has been for me physically to do private pilates sessions with Jess, she is also very funny. Sometimes the hardest part of an exercise is laughing while doing it, because I'm laughing so hard! I look forward to my weekly workout with her, and can't recommend this place enough :)

I love the personalized, 1:1 experience, and they way they've worked with me through a variety of injuries (I've sprained joints most people don't even know exist). I've been a loyal client of this studio for over 2 years and I can't say enough good things about this place and the owner (Jessica). I started private sessions with Jessica to change my rehab plan post hip surgery (hip arthroscopy) when I got tired of conventional PT and had trouble finding someone who understood my injury and could look beyond conventional exercises. It has been a game changer. I was also able to w work with her through my most recent pregnancy to help with core protection prior to birth and core restoration post birth.

When I moved to Seattle last year, I looked around for a Pilates studio that had body movement expertise. Emerald City fit the bill. Jessica is a practitioner of the Franklin method. I"ve had shoulder and leg pain for years despite PT. Because of my work with Jessica, I no longer have that constant pain -- Jessica's taught me how to move my body correctly. Additionally, I have osteoporosis -- Jessica is working on balance to mitigate my fall risk; and is getting my joints into a healthier state. I'm very happy to have found Emerald City Pilates. It's changed my relationship to my body -- at 75 years old that's amazing! I feel better than I have in years.

I came to Emerald City Pilates due to some lower back pain I was experiencing in my regular workout routine. I had several sessions with both Ellen and Jessica (the owner). I was very impressed with their coaching and they seemed very well versed on the human body. In 2011 at 31 y/o I had been trying to start running and I was always in pain. On my way home from a run at the sculpture park is where I saw her sign sitting in from of her building entrance with balloons on it. I emailed the address on the sign and had a prompt response. A few days later I had my first appointment with studio proprietor, Jessica Notman.
From day one I was hooked. She teaches you all about your body and the muscles and muscle groups while she works with you through the Pilates movement on a variety of equipment. She also mentions why certain movements are important; bits of information you start to remember and incorporate into your everyday movements. Each day was different. Jessica and I worked together getting my body in shape and making sure it worked mechanicallly well and not just strong. I went from an always injured runner to completing a 50 mile mountain ultra and many other amazing races and runs.
I would highly recommend Emerald City Pilates, their staff and facilities. They help you make your fitness dreams come true.

I've worked out in a variety of Pilates studios throughout my traveling career, from Miami to Seattle. The team of certified instructors at Emerald City Pilates surpasses them all. The combination of in depth knowledge of bone, joint, and biomechanics provides the most amazing "body tune up/tone up" every session. The additional educational and professional referrals supporting my personal goals, were totally unexpected and AMAZING.
The studio is small, intimate, personalized and equipped with all the "bells & whistles". I "own the place" during my workouts, in that, there are no interruptions, no cell phone distractions; totally ME time.

I have been attending Emerald City Pilates for 3+ years. Jessica has transformed my body through her amazing Pilates instruction and wellness/diet coaching. I currently struggle with psoriasis and other dietary issues, which have almost completely cleared up in the last year of working with Jessica. I have made more progress working with her for 1 year than years of working with dermatologists.
