What is a compliment? It’s acceptance, encouragement, and understanding. I offer my review as a compliment to Expand Yoga.

Expand Yoga offers a wide array of classes and enjoyable experiences. Each instructor brings a unique and infectious energy, sharing their own skills and experiences in a way that is both inspiring and engaging. It’s become a mainstay in my life, and I’m grateful for all it has brought. And I’m confident the day will come that I don’t confuse my left and right sides. πŸ™‚

Hot, structured, yoga with friendly instructors. So happy to have a studio like this in the area. They have generous first-time packages too, if you want to trial before committing to a membership. This is a great place to try hot yoga for the first time if you've never experienced the practice.

Your search for a yoga studio ends here! I’ve been practicing at Expand for over 6 years - since they were at a location on Pac Ave in downtown Tacoma. They were very welcoming as a new practitioner, and there are even some of the same instructors from years ago! It’s nice to have a home studio that always feels welcoming and I always know what to expect. Best yoga studio in the South Sound.

Expand yoga has a very positive impact on the community of Tacoma. The family who owns and runs the practice care for the well-being for whoever steps on their door. Hot yoga is not easy but has tons of benefits on physical, mental and spiritual level. The teachers are nothing but amazing, genuinely caring and be very respectful. They support you during your journey towards healing. I highly recommend expand yoga if you live in or visiting tacoma.

Rudest instructor I have ever seen. Black haired instructor that was teaching the 7pm class on 8/17/23. She sat on her bottom in the back of the class and yelled directions. An instructor who sits on their a$$ and don’t instruct. I was told by the blonde instructor that you can modify your poses to fit your abilities. This was my first yoga class after 6 months of surgery and recovery. She got super rude and argued with me about my capabilities. I told her I was not physically able to hold the pose she wanted me to do. She rudely said β€œyes you can! I just saw you”. Worst place ever! Save your money and go some place where they are professional and helpful. That’s not here.

I’ve done yoga in the past and am new to the area. Expand has tons of great reviews so I was excited to try this place out. I attended the Hot Vinyasa this past Sunday and was so disappointed. The instructor did not introduce himself, say good morning, or offer up any sort of greeting to the very full class. He just launched into a much too fast flow. And there was no music?!?!!? Definitely not a vinyasa vibe I’ve ever been a part of before. I’d say that I’d give the studio another shot because of all the reviews BUT the class schedule doesn’t list instructors so I can’t avoid this instructor, which I would definitely do if given the choice! Whew, so annoyed.

I’ve done yoga off and on for years but never found a home studio until I started at Expand! I’ve been going regularly for 5 months and I’ve enjoyed every class. The studio is big, clean and comfortable. All of their instructors are amazing, great at communicating and challenging. I’ve been walking around with 2 old injuries that I thought may need surgery. After about 3 months at Expand I no longer have any kind of pain or problems associated with them!

Expand has a real sense of community as well. Everyone is very friendly and respectful of each other. I’ve never seen or even heard a cell phone, which is hard to avoid given the TikTok age we live in. The studio hosts good and interesting workshops and events as well. 100% recommend you go to this studio.

Review for the Federal Way Location:

I used to practice Hot Yoga in SoCal about 12 years ago then restarted again when Expand opened in Federal Way. I have been going about 4-5 times a week and it has been amazing. This studio is inviting, clean and filled with positive energy.

So far I’ve taken classes with Liz, Matt, Tara, Tommeo and Allan. I’ve quickly come to feel like I belong at the studio. They all make an effort to recognize you. Allan has taught most of the classes I’ve been in- he’s been teaching, I believe, for a little over a year but you would think it’s been longer with how good he is. He has helped me so much with modifications and is always so kind.

There are quite a few instructors that you can tell have been doing this awhile. They walk in with confidence and speak with such conviction- that you yourself believe you can do anything. They are not shy to give corrections or explanations of the postures which helps so much in growing your practice.

Tara is my favorite 🫣 I feel guilty almost saying that because I’ve come to adore a lot of the instructors at the studio. She challenges me. She tells me I can do it. She tells me that I won’t give up. I find that she’s in my head during other classes with that faith in me and because of that- I don’t give up. Having someone believe in you, pushes you to believe in yourself.

I am so grateful that this studio has come to Federal Way. Hot Yoga is about challenging yourself and growth. There is no competition. I’ve found that not only has my practice grown stronger but my body feels so much better as well. I hope to be a member here for many years to come.

For a meditative yoga experience or if you are noise-sensitive, go to Original Hot. This class is music-free. Hot Vinyasa was done to pop music. Seems to be a disappointing trend at yoga studios lately. What's up with that? Hard to get in touch with the spirit or feel at peace when bombarded by lyrical music.

I had never done Yoga before and made the decision to give it a try yesterday. I started with the original Hot Yoga since i am a total beginner. The staff was very helpful and gave me a few pointers before the class started so knew what to do if i got to hot or needed a break. They also let you use a mat and towel your first class. Before the class started the instructor came over to my mat and helped me set it up properly and to show me how to lay my towel down on my mat( now i see very important after the amount of sweat i had on the towel). After that she gave me a quick rundown on the initial warm up and breathing exercises. The class was very relaxing and very refreshing. I appreciate the staff for treating me so nicely and i cant wait to come back and do another class.

I've been going here since I attended college and have felt that it was always a safe place to be. The instructors have always been welcoming and helpful every time I come in. I've been battling health issues and being here with how calming and supportive everyone is has made me a lot stronger both outside of the studio and on my mat.
Hot yoga can be extremely hard just because of the heat so make sure you do it multiple times and do listen to your body as you practice. You know your limits and how much you can push your self. One of the instructors once mentioned that even if you just lay on your mat for the entire class in Shavasana, you are here and that is something to celebrate.

Source: Google

Emma Ferguson

β˜… 5

These people are AMAZING! If you have questions they answer them, if you have limitations (just let them know before hand and the instructor will help you if you struggle with a pose), if you can't do a pose; just take a deep breathe and focus on what you can do, because this studio, with time will get you there.

My work is physically grueling, my back aches and my flexibility can be a joke. When I'm out on the fishing boats, I don't stretch and hardly workout. Then I come back to expand after a few months at work and by the end of a second consecutive class I can touch my toes again 🀣

The only thing I'd suggest is a mobile yoga studio for fishermen/women. I'd pay extra for it!

I love expand. I've been practicing diligently for the last months and am amazed what it's done to not only but body flexibility and strength but also my approach to life the other 23 hours of the day I'm not in the studio. Hot yoga takes same getting used to so try it at least 5 times if you can. Also all of the instructors are incredibly approachable. If you have questions or something didn't feel right ask them for pointers after class and they're always willing to help you figure out what's going on and improve.

Not a good place for beginners. My boyfriend wanted to try a class and he is not very flexible because of shoulder and wrist injuries but based on my experience with other studios I assured him they would give modifications of what we were doing and that he would find the right level for his body. To my horror the instructor did not give modifications and actually expected everyone in the class to be able to do advanced poses. At one point she asked us to do a pose where you put your hands on the ground and push your seat off the mat in a cross legged position, which I couldn't do because my upper body isn't strong enough to lift my 145lb body and she made the whole class wait on me until she had felt I tried hard enough to do it. I was so embarrassed. At a different point we were supposed to stretch our wrists. We went into cow pose and she wanted us to turn our finger tips to point back toward our knees. I easily did this but because of my bfs injuries he couldn't turn his hands that direction. She tried to force his hands around and he actually had to tell her that she was hurting him. Maybe she was a new instructor or I dunno what but we will never go back here.

They are focused on yoga not on selling you memberships. From the roomy studio to providing locks and hair ties, they clearly want you to have a good, positive experience. I had quit going to hot yoga bc it seemed every studio was small and so over crowded that you were doing your practice just inches away from someone else; maybe ok when it's not hot yoga, not okay when everyone is dripping sweat. So happy to have hot yoga back on 6th Ave.

business traveling with my yoga mat again! this time to tacoma, wa.

i did some local research for nearby yoga studios and found expand yoga! expand yoga is my yoga studio away from home :) for $15, i was able to get a week trial but i was only able to make it to 2 classes, but the 2 non-heated classes i attended were worth my $15:

1. balance and inversions: 75 minutes of upside down fun! the studio i practice regularly at usually takes most of the class to warm up, but in matt's class we were able to do a quick warm up and went right into inversions! wasting no time, and definitely 75 minutes well spent as we challenged ourselves to push ourselves outside of our comfort zones. there were only 5 of us in class so we were able to get a lot of one-on-one attention. to be honest, this was the first time i've conquered handstands, and i'm so dang proud :)

2. acro: 75 minutes of flying! acro yoga is more like "partner yoga". you get paired up with different classmates of equal weight and height and you fly away! i've seen acro yoga done before but never had real instructions, but patrick gave very good instructions and i was even able to balance people 2x my weight! it's definitely a trust based activity. if you're not comfortable with being hands on with others, i suggest to stay away from acro. acro yoga also has stretching benefits as well, according to patrick he was able to learn some of these techniques while he was in thailand and share them with us.

now lets get down to the logistics:
1. parking: easy street parking when i was taking the 7:30 classes. plenty of free parking if not outside, then close to the studio.
2. mat rental: $2/usage. and they're quality manduka mats! i fell in love with my mat so much i'm about to empty my wallet for one :)
3. equipment: manduka errthing!
4. studio itself: super cute. love the simple design with the hanging overhead lights.
5. age discrimination free: a family of 3 (mother with 2 daughters), one daughter i'm guessing is no older than 12? was attending the acro yoga class :)

didn't get to go to the hot yoga classes, so can't comment on those. i'm sure those are great as well :)
