I've been going to FotG for open gym hours for a while and I love it. It's a super inclusive space, and everyone I've met there has been so friendly and considerate. It's very community-oriented. The space is small, but well stocked with all the equipment I need for lifting. I also kind of love that open gym slots are limited to 3 people at once (due to space constraints and safety). I never have to wait for a squat rack! And I've never run into issues with the slots I want being fully booked either.

I found Friends of the Gym earlier this year and have tried to attend the weekly 'mask required' class every week. First of all, it's so great to have an accessible and careful workout space in the city and I am so grateful to FotG for that! Working out with folks that take public safety and neighborly care seriously is so affirming. Also, the class is led by Olli - an incredible workout instructor and coach. The workouts switch up all the time which keep things fresh. Olli leads the class in a way that anyone can get a ton out of it - whether you're new to a gym space, an experienced iron pumper, or anything in between. I love going to FotG and am so glad it exists!

Friends of the Gym is a very welcoming place for people of many and various shapes and persuasions. On-line or in-person FROG is a great way to improve health while improving skills and having fun with great coaches.

As a visibly queer person I have had uncomfortable experiences at other gyms. I have always been welcome and felt safe at FRoG! I got competent and compassionate personal training after top surgery that helped me feel confident getting back into working out. FRoG’s the best!

Friends of the gym is a great place to start or continue your fitness journey if you’ve been burned by gym and diet culture and homophobia before. And even if you haven’t! The classes are welcoming and designed to bring joy and power to being in your body, rather than shame or competition. A great place to learn and grow in your body!

Friends of the Gym is a genuinely inclusive, body-neutral space where I’ve always felt welcome. The coaches are incredibly supportive and consistently offer modifications without hesitation, which has been essential for me. The small class sizes and thoughtful workouts make it easy to focus on what feels right for my body without pressure. It’s a rare and refreshing kind of gym.

Love this gym! It has such a friendly atmosphere and is perfect for folks who are either new to working out, or have had tough experiences in other gyms in the past. I actually look forward to working out! It's the best!

Friends of the Gym breaks down traditional gym culture to provide a a safe, supportive environment for all bodies and skill levels. I've been able to achieve more than I ever have through their support and gentle encouragement, which stands in stark contrast with my experience at other gyms/trainers. Plus, they offer masked classes and gym hours which is crucial for me as an immunocompromised person. Truly a sacred space in an increasingly difficult world <3

This gym is so lovely and inclusive! Their classes are great for all bodies and ability levels, and open gym access works well if you're comfortable working out independently. Everyone I've met here has been kind and I don't feel the social pressure that can happen in typical gyms. This place is special and I highly recommend it, especially if other fitness spaces haven't worked for you.

Friends of the Gym has been an absolute game changer for me. The vibes are immaculate. The Strength classes are small enough to feel super personal while still being able to enjoy the community atmosphere. It's a fantastic place to be able to take both class and to work out on my own during open gym time in an inclusive environment. I'm so glad it's here!

I never felt like I fit in at gyms or knew the first thing about working out. I had never even picked up a barbell before and now I'm getting into powerlifting and feel the best I've ever felt in my body. Olli and the rest of the crew at Friends of the Gym have built an incredibly inclusive, encouraging, and happy environment. If you're thinking about finding a gym but are as nervous as I was, you should definitely give them a chance!

I joined Friends of the Gym in 2022 when I was desperately seeking community after the isolation of the pandemic. It has since become my favorite "third place" where I can prioritize both physical and mental well-being while connecting with friends. The small class sizes ensure personalized attention from all coaches, who genuinely care about your progress and goals. "Friends of the Gym" is the perfect name for this special community where everyone feels like they belong. If you're looking for a gym that cares about the whole person, this is your place.

Absolutely meets my expectations. I was looking for a individual trainer, and found Ollie. Excellent vibe in the space, open and accepting, (no big sweaty guys pumping iron.) Ollie helped me make quick progress and has easily pivoted based on pain (modify!) and adjusted for new goals. If you'd like to get to know your body in a safe space, check it out. Note that I'm very picky about trainers, this rec doesn't come lightly.

I feel so lucky this is my gym! I’ve learned so much from the excellent coaches. The classes are really small so it’s almost like a small-group personal training session. I always get feedback and never worry that I’m going to overdo it or hurt myself. I’ve learned tons! It’s also the most body neutral space I think I’ve ever been in and I really appreciate that. Great fit for anyone who wants to lift weights without all the toxic fitness culture around you. It’s just nice people, picking up heavy stuff and putting it back down and occasionally doing a group frolic around the room for cardio. Highly recommend!

I can't say enough wonderful things about Friends of the Gym! Prior to starting personal training here (first with Lara, then with Ollie) I felt pretty uncomfortable and intimidated in most gym spaces. After a little over a year here, I feel so much more confident, capable, and strong. Everyone at Friends of the Gym makes the space so welcoming and really works to make exercise accessible to people of all skill levels and all body shapes/sizes. Seriously, do yourself a favor and come work out with us here!

I have been working out with Coach Lara for 4+ years and followed her to Friends of the Gym. With Lara's 1:1 coaching and training, my strength has increased exponentially. They have helped me through many injuries, adapting workouts to incorporate helpful movements or avoid painful movements.
The strength group classes follow similar workouts and being with other folks makes the hour pass quickly.
Friends of the Gym is for you if you are not comfortable in a larger gym setting, or want specialized focused training. I love it here!

I've been going to 1:1 training session with Ollie for several months, and I've found this gym to be very approachable, cozy, and welcoming. This is one rare space where I don't feel uncomfortable at all being openly trans - there are many trans and queer gym members and staff.

Highly recommended! The gym space feels inclusive and welcoming for all fitness levels and is very focused on relationships and community. Convenient location, completely reasonable sliding scaled pricing. I've been working 1:1 with Allison for about 9 months. She's so upbeat, warm, and knowledgable. The workouts she designs strike the balance between achievable and the right amount of challenging, and vary from week to week. She's made a few referrals to other providers that have been exceptionally helpful. Over all working with her has been an awesome positive addition to my physical fitness and life in general!

This is more than a gym; it's a community! I have been a member here for nearly two years... And I've never been a member of any gym ever before. What's the difference? The staff and people here are so welcoming and fun! I feel like I'm visiting friends every time. The gym is open to all genders and identities. The classes are varied, motivating, and challenging but accommodating. The instructors give excellent advice and they've helped me improve my posture and workouts immensely! I never thought a gym could be so fun. Try it out! First class is free.

This gym is not only a place to workout, but it is also a community. I feel so welcomed when I walk in the door because the owner and trainers know me and take time to say hi! Strive and Uplift has classes that are geared towards ultimate frisbee and I have never joined a gym that intentionally supports ultimate players before. I feel at home when I come to this gym because of the friendly and motivating atmosphere created by the staff and members!

I can’t say enough good things about Strive and Uplift! I’m a non-athletic person who never really got over being deconditioned in the past, and I’ve made amazing strides coming here for nearly a year. I absolutely adore the women’s lifting class, it’s a wonderful group of people and amazing instructor. Every class is an opportunity to try new things and perfect known ones in a way that works within each persons unique physical capabilities and challenges. The circuits make the tough things possible and allow for sufficient time to execute good form and prevent injury. To quote our instructor it’s not really just a gym, it’s a community of people who do strong things.

This is a great gym. The staff know what they're doing. There's a good variety of barbells, kettlebells, and dumbbells. There's also a large turf area. There's also a private shower and plenty of room to exercise. There's usually a friendly dog or two wandering around the gym which makes for a good excuse to rest between sets.

This gym is great for Ultimate players and anyone who is looking for personal training. The staff is not only engaging but also knowledgeable about what they are doing and how to teach it. The equipment is phenomenal and can fit your focus regardless of if you're a beginner, novice, or even an expert. Other cities need more gyms like this.
