The place is only as good as the administration. What used to be a convenient albeit expensive swimming center has now regressed very heavily on quality and communication. Both my daughters went here for years, but more recently the demand and profit have gotten to their heads. They consistently miss communicating enrolment changes, cannot manage enrollment in timely way. What's worse is their don't care attitude and lack of apology. Their classes are also not effective any longer. I would stay away from this center until they get their act together.

I am adding additional context based on response from goldfish below (typical response and not taking responsibility for their actions)
1. I specifically asked if we can move to Saturdays over summer. Never did the front desk inform that it's not possible. As I immediately found out I contacted and said I don't want to move to Saturdays and highlighted the lack of transparency there.
2. We got a notification within a day that we are enrolled in Wednesdays. My daughter attended Wednesday classes most of August. Then suddenly in Sep we get a mail saying we are about to lose our enrolment due to attendance. Again, such chaos and poor communication from Goldfish.
Now we just forcibly made the decision to pull out. Perhaps we should have done this earlier but we had so many make ups that we just couldn't schedule as they almost never have slots for it.

Nice and clean environment, professional coaches, good customer service, smiling and co-operative associates. BUT, I genuinely forgot to inform them about missing classes , and when I asked them to consider and accommodate those two classes or atleast one, they refused and were quite adamant. And the classes are expensive, so losing two classes was a big loss. It’s in their hands, They could have accommodated. I am still waiting for them to agree to my request.

Goldfish has been instrumental in helping my kids learn to swim. The instructors are professional, energetic, and clearly enjoy working with people. I like that the curriculum is streamlined so that any instructor will be consistent in case there is a substitute. At the same time, they have been accommodating to small requests that I've made based on my kids' needs. One of my favorite things about their program is that they have a low key swim team that meets for an hour once a week. This is a rare opportunity for kids and parents to try out whether or not the bigger commitment of a competitive swim team works for them. Like with the classes, the swim team is run in a really positive way.

The franchisee at this location, clearly doesn’t realize that this is a school for CHILDREN. I walked by and saw a giant flag hanging. A flag that only represents your orientation in the bedroom. Why any parent would keep your child here, is beyond comprehension. The β€œpride” flag is only about what you do with your hoo ha, or hee hoo. Keep the children out of it!

Zero progress here after a year, same thing over and over again with different instructors every week making it difficult for them to build on prior sessions because they don't know what happened the prior sessions. Moved my kid to British swim school in sonesta Bellevue and she has made amazing progress in just a 2 months now able to float by herself. Would NOT recommend enrolling your kid to goldfish.

Edited to add as a response to comment from owner which implied that my daughter's absences (which we made up) were responsible for the lack of progress:
Vacations and birthday parties are why she has had absences we made up. We've also had absences at her new swim school and yet because of the focus on our child and consistent teachers, she has been able to progress despite those absences. I resent the innuendo that the absences were responsible for the lack of progress, instead of taking the constructive criticism for what it is to look at your processes to improve child learning.

We tried a couple of other swim schools before joining goldfish last year. It has been a blessing.. 3 year old who would never put feet in water is splashing like a champ. Thanks to all the wonderful friendly coaches.
A beautiful team of young Staff who is very encouraging and vigilant, keeps an eye on every moment of kids. Taking care of them throughout the 30 mins we spend.
A beautiful happy environment.

Amazing Swim School!
We love this swim school! The instructors are fantasticβ€”so patient and encouraging. The presence of life coaches adds an extra layer of safety, and the fun toys really help ease little ones into the water. The bathing and changing areas are always clean and well maintained, which we really appreciate. My child looks forward to every class and has made so much progress. Highly recommend!

I am rating Leto a 10 out of 5! Yes, you read that right. He is THE BEST swim instructor that I’ve seen, yet. He doesn’t hold them back. We have been at Goldfish for almost a year and have been with a total of three instructors. They mostly have the same techniques, which aren’t great, but Leto doesn’t hold them back and handicap them. He pushes their limits while paying close attention to them and their abilities. He really lets them flourish! I don’t feel a child will progress too quickly if they are being coddled and my son is proof of this. Good job Leto! He is the reason for the four stars. Otherwise I would have given a two star rating. Most swim instructors hold them back, which equates to more money into the Goldfish Swim School franchise. Great for business, but not so great for parents or students!

Goldfish Swim School has been a great fit for our family. We have experienced 2-3 instructors and have found them to be friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. They often demonstrate a skill and then assist the students as they execute it. I appreciate the efficiency of the program as a whole. Initially I was skeptical my kids could learn skills in a 4:1 ratio 30 minute class, but I soon saw that this experience is different than other swim classes we have taken elsewhere in the past. My kids are motivated to learn and are progressing after two months of lessons. Showers, changing rooms, hairdryers and shampoo make it easy to get swimming lessons done and fresh clothes on in less than an hour.

I am writing this review to express my extreme disappointment with Goldfish Redmond Swimming School. Firstly, the tuition fees have significantly increased from $120 to $170 since we joined the school in 2020. This steep rise in fees did not reflect any noticeable improvements in the quality of instruction or additional benefits for my son's participation. Other activities he was involved in did not experience such drastic fee hikes, but only minimal increases. My son had been at level Pro 2 for about a year, which was the last level before graduation. However, due to our relocation to a city 40 miles away, we informed the school via email that he would need to withdraw from the program. I also mentioned in the same email that he was close to graduating and requested guidance and assistance regarding this process. I made it clear that it was something really important for him to officially complete the program in order to see the result of his effort throughout all these years. Before our move, and after sending the email, I took my son to what I believed could be his final class, hoping to help him complete his last level. I took the opportunity to explain the situation to the teachers before the class began and requested their guidance on what he needed to do to pass the level that day. At the end of the class, the teacher informed me that my son was close to meeting the requirements but needed to improve in certain areas of his breaststroke. Encouraged by this feedback, despite knowing that we would be moving in a few days, I expressed my commitment to drive him to the facility, even from the new location, the following week for another attempt. Next week, I made the effort to drive 40 miles to Redmond to bring my son to one more class. I hoped that this time he would be able to demonstrate the necessary improvements and successfully graduate. Before this second class, I spoke to the teacher again, explaining the situation and our previous conversation. Unfortunately, I received the same response as before. My son was still close to passing, but not quite there yet. They mentioned again some minor imperfection in his breaststroke, even acknowledging it was minimal. Despite the disappointment, I was determined to help my son achieve his goal. A few days later, I made the 40-mile journey to bring him to a possibly final class before our upcoming month-long trip that will take place in a few days, during which his membership will expire. Again, as the class was about to start, I reiterated our circumstances to the teachers and hoped for a different outcome. However, to my dismay, at the end of the class, they pointed out different areas of concern than what had been highlighted by the previous teacher. He had arrived ready to demonstrate his revised breaststroke technique after both of us had thoroughly reviewed and practiced the precise instructions given by his previous instructors. Actually, the teachers of this last class, didn’t even make him perform breaststroke exercises in order to evaluate it. What was even more frustrating, since it showed lack of communication when I realized they didn't even focus on the swimming style that my son was specifically told to improve by the previous teacher. This lack of communication and indifference towards our situation has left my son heartbroken. After four years of dedication and enduring the constant increase in membership fees, the school failed to guide him through the last few classes to graduate. It is truly disheartening that they couldn't prioritize his progress, especially given our imminent move and the fact that his membership will expire during our month-long absence and the fact that we had been loyal customers for four years.
I hope this detailed explanation clarifies the events and frustrations we experienced in our interactions with the swimming school.
Overall, I cannot recommend this swimming school based on our experience. It is my hope that the school takes these concerns seriously and improves their approach to better support their students.

My entire life I have never had to write a negative review!!! My daughter has been attending swim lesson for about 3 weeks now! (3 classes)
The first two she has been going and sitting by her classmates even though she was scared of the water. The instructors forced her in the water but it resulted in her being super afraid and now all she does is cries and she doesn’t even go to sit to put her feet in the water. I should have never let them do that, and they should have gave my daughter the time to adjust and go in the water whenever she is ready!!!! Now she is terrified and the staff tell me the pool is loud and she dont like it??? Then why was she completely okay the first two times before they rushed and pushed her in the water???
Some instructors are super nice but some definitely lack knowledge with beginners and children being introduced to pool.
Im so so dissatisfied and disappointed!!!!

While there are many positives about Goldfish (e.g. caring and enthusiastic staff, clean facilities, a warm pool, plenty of showers / changing stalls, easy scheduling of make-up classes, a curriculum that's plain fun for kids), they unfortunately have not been effective at actually teaching our daughter to swim. She has been going for ten months and hasn't made any progress in the last five months. Goldfish has not made any attempt to adapt and correct this.

I think there are a few major problems that make the instruction ineffective:

- There's insufficient pool time (~6 minutes per week per student).
- There's a lack of instructor continuity (we seem to have a substitute teacher every other week).
- There's no customization/adaptation of instruction to individual students.

I wish we were just an unlucky anecdote. However, seven of our friends' and family's kids have also attended Goldfish, and five of them ran into the same issue. Looking at other Google reviews, it's clear that others have also faced similar problems. It looks like management has reached out to some of them (they also reached out to one of our friends), but I don't see the underlying issues being addressed. And, for what it's worth, I did leave the above feedback on my exit form, but Goldfish made no attempt to reach out to me and try to correct the issues. It looks like they don't care given they have people on the waitlist for their classes.

If your kid is a natural at swimming, they might do fine here. If they aren't, I would look elsewhere.

My five-year-old and almost three-year-old are both at Goldfish Redmond. My oldest has improved SO MUCH since starting at Goldfish. We were previously in semi-private lessons (two students to one teacher ratio) and just felt like she wasn't improving. Goldfish has exponentially improved her skills. And for my youngest, unlike other parent/child swim lessons we've participated in where it's mostly just singing and playing, I feel that Goldfish is teaching her actual swimming and safety skills. I also appreciate how the instructors tell us why we're working on the skills they're teaching/how what we're doing is building water safety skills. Goldfish is a more expensive option than some other lessons, but well worth it in my experience for this critical life/safety skill.

Update: The owner of the school contacted me after the original review, apologized for the cancelation/makeup issue, and refund the classes for that month. I appreciate his attitude to help customers and is happy with his follow up.

Original Review: The coaches are good to kid. But we decided to quit after 1 year. The progress is slow. I know every kid is different. But with 4 kids in a 30 mins class, they will not have enough time for every kid to learn and practice. I had some bad customer experiences regarding the class booking/cancelation/makeup recently which caused us to stop the classes for my kids. e.g. If you schedule a future absence, there is no way to cancel it in App/website. I tried to cancel through phone call, and got a yes. However, when we arrived the school, they told us there is no available slot and there is no way to make it up. Also, there used to be a family swim every week. The school stopped it with no plan to resume it. BTW, if you want to stop the class, you need to let them know one month ahead. I might seek some privacy swim coach, but definitely no Goldfish swim school any more.

Professionally run and well maintained facility. Pool length is too small and each lane is shared by 8 kids - makes it terrible to learn swimming reasonably. There is no continuity between any two sessions, no note sharing between teachers, which means training is not effective. It’s more of a child day care and less of a swimming class.

I left a feedback previously on an unsatisfactory interaction with the front desk. But the owner of this center, Mr. JJ, completely turned my experience around. They reached out to acknowledge my unpleasant experience, addressed my concerns very promptly, and offered to help me find a spot as one becomes available. I am giving this place 5 stars just for their sheer level of engagement with a customer. It is not often that an owner takes the time to reach out to a (potential) customer to talk about their experience. Quite a lesson on customer engagement and retention. Way to go, Goldfish Redmond. We look forward to finding some classes here soon!

School is well maintained but the curriculum needs to change.

The school was great for introducing my kid to the water but progress plateaued quickly. There were 4 kids in the shared class which means each swimmer will Atmos get 6 to 8 times in the water.

The teachers are so busy getting the next Kit into the water they do not have time to spend correct in technique and form . The high-fives and encouragement is great, but I would not take my kid there if you were serious about learning how to swim.

Every part of my daughters swim lessons feels like there has been a lot of thought put into keeping the environment safe for everyone involved. From staff members wearing masks/shields at all times to a designated member spraying down frequently used surfaces. There is no question in my mind, we will continue to go to her lessons without having to stress and second guess about this virus. I applaud everyone who works here for making this a safe, fun, and educational environment!!

I signed my kid up for lessons via phone a couple weeks ago. I had made sure to ask all of the questions I had and asked them to describe what the classes will be like during this time of COVID. The first week we were supposed to attend the class, it got cancelled due to pool maintenence. When I showed up the 2nd week, I was getting my daughter ready to go into the pool and just found out from the front desk that I am supposed to go into the pool with her and the coaches are only there to supervise the classes and watch. I literally was not told of these 2 aspects of the class which are the most important aspects of the class. LOL. All I was told was the coaches are taking precautions by wearing a shield during the class. What a joke! So, the worker who signed me up was obviously not paying any attention whatsoever when explaining how things will work for me but was not hesitant to take down my card info. for payment. The whole place looks like it is run by young high school students so I get it...but damn what a waste of time! Oh, and my kid was so disappointed she cried. I got my refund and told them I would like to take my kid out of the classes. Oh, and one more thing. What is the point of paying $124 per month when the parent is doing all the work and coaches are just supervising? You are basically just paying this fee to use their facility for 30 minutes. What a waste of money! You can get a family gym membership @ Columbia with pool access for around $200/month. Much more worth it, no? Update 10.12.20 Owner response says someone for sure notified me of the rules for classes. Not true! I was never told about it or else why would I have signed my kid up? I never wanted to go into the water with her and never would have signed her up knowing it was a parent supervised class. Instead of apologizing it is pretty ridiculous they are saying they told me about all the rules when in fact that is NOT TRUE and the owner was not on the phone call, so how would they even know?! Very frustrating and upsetting.

So glad they opened and provided best swim training! My 4 yo monkey crazy with swimming. She is very exited each time and sometimes her emotions overwhelmed her. But staff is very patient and so friendly so she started to be more calming and following coach rules each time better and better. I can not be happier as a mom. Highly recommend for all level swimmers. And could not say enough words how well facility is decorated, clean and very kids friendly!!

We appreciate all the precautions that the staff members have been taking to ensure that we are all safe. We always felt the facility was busy and crowded so it was great to see all the safety measures (smaller class size, wider lanes for each class, each swimmer getting his/her own basket of equipment to use during lesson, spaced out chairs for adults while child(ren) are in class, etc.) they’ve implemented since reopening. Our family is so happy to be back at Goldfish 😊

I really liked this place. The instructors were great and the staff was friendly, facility is clean and the water temperature of pool was warm. My kids really enjoyed this place until Co-vid happened. Now they are following the strict SOPs and if the kids are in beginner level which is level 1 , a parent or guardian must go in the pool with them and this is kind of harder part for me now. I can't wait when this all be over and kids can join again safely. I 100 percent recommend them.

Wonderful swim school. The coaches are well trained and take their time teaching each child without forcing the children to do anything they are not ready for or scared of. The facility is very clean and have everything you would need: individual changing rooms, private showers, hair drying station and even suit drying machine. Provide A great makeup policy for missed classes and progress reports for each child so the parent knows what skills the child still needs to master before being moved up a level.

After trying a couple different other swim lesson places we have been super pleased with Goldfish. The facility is new, clean and has very thoughtful conveniences throughout. The changing rooms and showers are private and convenient for a family to use. The staff is friendly. My daughter is now swimming confidently and is able to have fun in the water after a couple months of lessons. We also participate in family swim regularly, the warm water and toys makes it easy to have fun. I can't say enough good things about this facility!

This place is amazing! We really love Goldfish Swim School. Very nice and helpful staff at the front desk and awesome swim instructors. The instructors really make the kids comfortable with water and make learning fun. Even if you miss a class you get a makeup class!

I really like their location (Redmond town centre 😍) which is very convenient and lively with lot of parking space. We can always get a spot even on weekends, which is great !!

The swimschool is very clean and has a sitting area where parents can watch their kids during their class. There are lot of changing rooms and bathrooms (with bodywash and conditioners❀) which i find always in good shape. They also have hairdryers and swimsuit dryersπŸ™‚ . So everything you need they have it. Thankyou for bringing this amazing swimschool to Redmond!

The enthusiasm the employees of Goldfish Swim School with which they greet us always makes us feel welcome! All the staff is amazing! And the place is amazing! I love how there is a section for the parents, a section where my toddler can color, I love how there are many individual shower rooms and how you guys provide shampoo, conditioner and body wash! And I love how you provide hair dryers and a machine that dries my daughters bathing suit. I also love the Hawaiian theme of the swim school! It makes it so much fun for my kids like they are on vacation! I can go on and on, because the swim school is amazing! Please keep up the great work! The only thing I can think of is turning up the AC a little higher where the parents sits, just to make it a bit cooler. :) but that’s it! It’s a wonderful school! I’m glad we passed the school while we were shopping at the Redmond Town Center. It was my first time hearing and seeing about the school. We went in to ask about the course and the sweet girl who works at the front, spoke to us with kindness and explained the prices and such. She also gave us a quick tour and also let my kids take a quick feel to see how warm the water was! The next day, I signed my daughter up! 😊 Thank you Goldfish Swim School!

My kids 6 and 4 were taking lessons at Goldfish in Reston ,Virginia since they were 4 and 2 respectively. We moved to Redmond, Washington in summer of 2019 and were super excited to know about Goldfish starting here. We have a way to compare so pardon me for my frankness- the pool and facility in Redmond is much smaller(important because you loose first 5 min to get to your lane of the 25 min swim lesson shared with 4 other kids and when the kids from the previous class are coming out it can be chaotic), facility is newer but there are not many options for scheduling/changing classes, teachers are less experienced and definitely Redmond price is expensive (paying $25 more per month for same level)then the Washington DC metro rates for 2 kids. The Redmond owner is super friendly and on the floor with his staff practically every time I have been there. Since they are so new they have World class technology in place to check-in, super nice front desk operators and it feels as if everything is perfect. Not to forget the 12 makeups they offer in a year which is a standard Goldfish policy. Coming to our swimming experience -My 6 year old was promoted to pro 2 just a week before we left Reston,Virginia. It’s been close to 4 months that we are here and currently serving our 1 month notice. For pro 2 the age is 4 to 12 and I was quite annoyed when the pool observer stopped by to tell me that we need to look for a class like glider 3 because my kid is β€œslowing others down”. Just FYI there is a pool observer who observes every kid swimming and keeps a track of the progress and he is also experienced enough to tell the teacher in the pool what to do in case the kid is not able to understand the instruction. The following class the owner observed my kid and he insisted to look for glider 3 or pro 1.Let me talk about an example from my experience at other goldfish school(which has expanded it’s operation in other locations - Alexandria and Great Falls in VA in last 3 years )the kids are not expected to know circle swimming or breast stroke or butterfly stroke when they are in pro2 but to learn and master it in pro 2 and swim force and if the pro 2 class is meant for kids between 4 and 12 it means there are going to be kids slow in some strokes because of their age/ agility and the instructor needs to be more engaging with smaller kids( FYI my kid started as at junior 2 and worked his way up to pro 2 before we had to move out of VA). I do not mind pulling my kid down by 2 levels but the problem is teacher engagement even at glider 3 level. Now for my 4 year old she is in glider 3. Her instructor just kept changing very often and most of the teachers she has got are not experienced / passionate about what they do and often go by the set of swim instruction kept on the pool deck. We have decided to pull the kids out because of the cost ,the total lack of teacher engagement at both pro2 and glider 3 level, no free swim time for practicing what you learn (miss this option we had in Virginia). However we wish Goldfish @ Redmond all the best and hope they can implement things that will help their business grow profoundly.

We love Goldfish! We have been with Goldfish since they opened. This was my second attempt for swim lessons as our first experience at another place wasn’t great. The owners are parents themselves so they get it. I had a few phone calls with the owner and she continuously gave me the reassurance that Goldfish would be a great experience. She was right! It has been a great experience from day one! Everyone is so nice and helpful. My daughter loves coming to swimming and has already moved up a class since we started in August! The facility is clean and inviting. Everything is accommodating for both moms and dads! So grateful for Goldfish.

We’ve had a wonderful experience with goldfish swim school in Redmond. Our two fishies have wonderful instructors, the facility is nice, the staff is always friendly and helpful, and the owners have been extremely warm and welcoming. In a month our daughter went from not being able to swim at all to being able to swim just about the entire side length with the help and encouragement of her teacher, Parth, who she adores. My son has also been extremely successful with his sweet teacher, Sameera, who has learned in just a few short months how to submerge comfortably under water, get out of the water safely, and back float. All huge successes as our kids are able to learn in a safe environment with the small class sizes of 4 students, in which they push each other to be braver each time in the water. I will say there have been many times we’ve had substitutes for our teachers but they have all been amazing and encouraging to our kids. We’ve had a really great experience so far here since their opening!

We have been going to goldfish swim school ever since they opened up in August! My 14 month old loves going swimming every Saturday morning and it has become our routine every week. He just loves the water and always has so much fun! We just got a new instructor a few weeks ago and he has been awesome and so much more hands on and attentive with all of the kids.

My water-averse kiddos genuinely like coming here. I like the staff (instructors are always smiling), the facilities (family showers means both parents can help get kids dressed), and the owners (with young kids of their own, they just get it). Perfect spot for us.

We've been attending Goldfish Swim School with our two kids since their opening in August. In general they have a nice facility and friendly instructors. I'm giving a one star because we showed up for our class today at 9am and they had a sign on their door that they are closed. We saw other parents outside too looking very upset and one of them mentioned that apparently there was an email sent out last night after 11pm saying they would be closed today. I don't understand how less than 12 hour notice is appropriate for closure without any explanation at all and that a single email is sufficient notice. They basically said log in to your account and schedule a makeup session, but nothing else. This is the second time that this has happened since they opened a few months ago where they have just randomly closed or cancelled family swim without sufficient notice, which was really disappointing for the kids after they got dressed and ready to go.

Brand new facility. My son had his first lesson the very first day they opened. After one lesson my hydro-phobic son suddenly had no problem putting his head under the water. I’m super impressed with the friendly and very competent staff.
The dressing rooms were clearly designed by someone who has young children. Bright, clean, and fun.
Would way recommend to all parents for their kids.

It’s a new establishment. Looks like they took over various old shops used to be in these places previously in Redmond Town Centre.

This is a Kids only swim school. New facility. Yet they have a huge crowd. Class ratio is 1:4. Staffs are spread across young, adult instructors. Multiple life guards on duty too. New and clean bathrooms, shower and restrooms. Staffs are friendly. You can also buy swimsuits and other accessories inside.

This info took forever to find so I'm putting it here in case anyone is curious. This company does NOT offer refunds and you can't cancel online. According to their website you can cancel in person, but I haven't tried it yet. The lessons are 1x a week and 30 minutes long. They cost 115$ for the 1st month plus a 25$ registration fee. Then 124$ for each following month. That's almost 58$/hr. Save some money and go to the Y instead.
