Wow - was looking for a place to sign up my fam and read the awful reviews. Stopped looking at Golds right away. How can a place survive, in Camas of all places, with such lousy reviews and conditions? As a businessman, I detest poor businesses and business practices which (should be) easily fixable with a little effort and determination. It's not rocket science. Maybe sell the franchise and move on?

Setting aside the fact that it's a bit run down and equipment is always broken, I would suggest completely avoiding them due to their terrible business practices. They are happy to take your money and sign you up super fast in person, but it's a completely different narrative when you need to cancel. They make it very difficult to end your membership and seem to take steps to draw out the cancellation process so they can justify billing you for another month or more. You can't simply cancel at the club, and no one there is willing to help you beyond telling you to contact customer service. You then have to jump through all of their hoops to complete the cancellation process with their contracted 3rd party service - who you can't simply call. They then ultimately require you to submit a written request to cancel your membership. Mine mysteriously went unanswered for just enough time to allow them to justify billing me again. When questioned about the timeline by pointing out the submission date, they said sorry (not sorry) and that they were bound by the policies provided by the club and were going to charge the membership fee per my contract. I hope the extra $100 was worth losing a few members who did have plans of returning... Cascade will be getting our business going forward.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention the icing on the cake! They were charging an additional small fee they said was going to be used for renovations and new equipment - yeah, that never happened. The person who signed us up said that they were hoping to start the project in the Spring of 2024, but it looks like that was a shady way to justify adding more money to their bottom line.

I wish I could say it stopped here, but a very similar situation happened with another one of my family members and I have a few friends who experienced similar issues.

This business is shady. They will help you lickety split to sign up and take your money. But as soon as you want to cancel you oddly can’t do it in person nor on the phone and nobody can seem to tell you how to accomplish this. There is an email deep in their website I found and that is where you have to go. But it is not easy to find and there is no confirmation of receipt. Buyer beware. Their practices are shady at best.

I needed to park here for my Good friends child's celebration of life across the street I never actually used their services but the amount of empathy that Tyler shown to me and a bunch of some other people trying to park in the parking lot where unfortunately he had signs that said NO parking but Tyler approved it and was extremely cool about it. Seriously highly recommend this place just for the sheer fact it had good people running the front desk well and they have a pool pretty neat

If you like a gym with physical holes in the wall, dirty showers with no soap, and deflated basketballs, all while charging exorbitant rates and annual fees, this is the gym for you. Oh and good luck canceling. They’ll gladly take your money to sign you up on location, but will make you jump through endless hoops to cancel while continuing to charge you.

This place is a dump.

Machines break and sit unusable for months like abandoned junk. The ceiling leaks water like it’s some kind of indoor rain feature nobody asked for. There are literal holes in the walls, mold in the bathrooms, and burnt out light bulbs all over the place.

The owner is well aware of all of this and simply doesn’t care — greed over member safety, every time. This isn’t just bad business, it’s an insult to anyone paying to be here. The conditions are unsanitary, unsafe, and absolutely unacceptable.

This disaster of a gym should be overhauled immediately. I’ll be contacting Gold’s Gym corporate, the county health department, and OSHA.

The online reviews don’t lie — this place is a one-star health hazard barely masquerading as a gym. Save your money, save your time, and go anywhere else. Try Cascade athletic Club instead.

Excellent swim instructors and really great aquatics director (Nick). But there are a few issues that have been ongoing for a few years that we continue to notice each time we visit:

1) Any transaction, whether for a membership, or swimming lessons, or buying a candy bar, takes a long time at the counter.

2) The staff cannot conduct any transactions over the phone or online, including making purchases or scheduling. They say this is because they cannot process credit card transactions unless the customer presents the physical card at the counter, which is pretty surprising for any business these days, especially one like Gold's Gym which is a large company.

3) It takes quite a bit of effort to get things done, in general. Phone calls, emails, in-person visits.... Nothing against the staff whatsoever - I suspect they're battling the tools and policies of Gold's Gym corporate.

This place absolutely has the most unprofessional, impolite, inexperience, and without any knowledge of customer service staffs & Manager “ Karen “. Their primary focus is on making money and they don’t care what their customer says or wants. Definitely read other reviews about this place. Based on my extremely bad experience with this place I highly recommend don’t join this gym and don’t sign up for any private swimming lessons.

Rough conditions, facilities almosy always an issue, and rules not enforced. Had enough when I even saw the personal trainer moving from machine to machine doing her out workouts WITHOUT spray and a towel to wipe down her machines. If the PT won’t even do it, why would they enforce the sweaty meat heads to? Just doesn’t feel like they intend to keep the place open and maybe it is a money grab at this point. Have since canceled.

Signed my son up for swimming lessons. Then read in the fine print that they fail students multiples times due to the large amount of skills they need to learn in an extremely short class, causing them to have to repeat the same classes over and over before they pass to the next level. I think this is a horrible way to encourage a child in learning new skills, and I found another pool that focuses on smaller goals that the child can pass in each class. The gym refused to refund me, even though I gave them 10 days notice that I would like to cancel and there was a waitlist for this class. I think this is the worst refund policy I have ever encountered. They seem to think it is ethical to keep money for services that a person no longer wants rendered.

To say that this gym is a part of golds gym, we’re definitely bash the name of one of the most popular, Gym franchises in the world.

Absolutely disgusting Gym
Just look at its reviews already😂
I’ve been to several golds gyms, by far this one is the worst,
rust all over the place,
pool room is disgusting and is leaking,
Bathrooms are a nightmare with dry rot on the walls and ceiling
Tile missing on the floor
And they don’t provide any soap like they do in all of the other gold gyms

You walk in there, you notice, and wonder if they’re even open because half of the lights are off, don’t even take time to change a lightbulb.
It’s not like the people at the front counter are doing anything, they’re standing or sitting down, looking at their phones or they are apologizing to people who keep coming up to them complaining with the problems that are going on with the gym

Never going back there, it’s a disgrace to have this Camas location be named golds gym, where in reality, I would rather go to planet fitness for the rest of my life been ever go back to the dump.

Hazel Dell location is where it’s at!

I’ve been going to this gym for a few months now, mainly out of convenience and price. This gym has a lot of potential, but it desperately needs a remodel, and the staff needs to do a better job at keeping the location clean. When I see the same trash sitting on the counter in the locker room for multiple days in a row, it doesn’t give me much confidence the rest of the gym is actually being thoroughly cleaned. Compared to the Hazel Dell location it’s a night and day difference.

I would compare the quality of this gym more to a 24 hour fitness, which to me has always been a budget entry level gym, while Golds (used to be) the higher quality more body building focused gym.

**UPDATE***
**PHOTOS OF TANNING ROOM**
This place has the most condescending/rude manager (Julissa). Who is a scammer and has absolutely no compassion or common courtesy towards other people whatsoever. I cannot for the life of me understand how she ended up working with the public?*******

Do not join this gym! It is the biggest rip-off! Starting with how extremely unsanitary, disgusting and dirty everything is. They literally charge the highest amount legally for late fees in the state of Washington. Their tanning bed has been broken for a month, I was not informed on how long it would be. Just told "its broken" I hadn't tanned all month. Yet when it came time to pay my bill I'm still getting charged the extra $30 for tanning? I call to talk to somebody and the kid says that "you're not the only one who complained, and it's not fair" he took my name and number saying " ill have a manager call you back" but does that happen?? NO and now that they tried to take the money out of my bank account I have been charged so many late fees that my bill is now double the cost of the package I should have been charged for ( now $100). I call back, the kid tells me I should have switched my package as soon as I found out the tanning bed was not working. Oh but now that would cost me $30 to do! Not only that you cannot cancel unless you are all paid up and it has to be 30 days before your next bill. So they lock you into it, without giving you any of the services you paid for. The place is disgusting and dirty none of the machines are upgraded. Then you go over to the mall location and they have two tanning beds! Like 100 machines a movie theater!!! Clearly when I got into this mess definitely didn't expect to have to find a way to get to another location which is 20 minutes away whenever I want to work out on a quality machine or tan period!!! Scam!!!! I'm going to do everything I can to let everyone I know, (which is a lot not local people considering I work with public) know to NEVER JOIN GOLDS GYM!!!!!
*****Answer to the reply***
I guess my main concern is why is it my responsibility to pay for the time where I could not use the tanning bed. If it was out of anybody's control it was out of my control. Be not being the one who broke it, why do I have to pay for the inconvenience on your end? Also almost a month to field a crack in the glass. I was told I was going to get a phone call from a manager. Even your employee agreed and mentioned I'm not the only one who doesn't want to pay for the inconvenience. It was not a problem with my bank or my cash app. And how rude to even suggest that I didn't have the funds in my account or issues with whom i bank with on a public platform like this. Which shows exactly how unprofessional your company is! I wasn't prepared to pay for something I didn't use and was waiting to hear from my manager like your employee suggested. Your manager Julissa is unprofessional and condescending.

If you’re considering signing up for Gold’s Gym in Camas, think twice. It’s easily the worst gym in the area, and it’s becoming increasingly clear that the owners have no real intention of improving the facility. For years, they’ve been promising renovations, but nothing ever seems to change. Small, basic fixes that could drastically improve the gym remain ignored—leaky faucets, broken equipment, and outdated amenities are all part of the experience.

The gym feels like a money grab. They continue to collect membership fees while providing subpar services, with no signs of improvement or upgrades. The owner seems completely disconnected from the state of the gym, failing to address any issues or concerns from members. It's hard to ignore the feeling that the place is being run into the ground, with little care or investment put into making it a space people want to return to.

For a gym that markets itself as a well-established brand, Gold’s Gym Camas is a complete letdown. Don’t waste your money or time. There are much better alternatives in the area that actually care about their members and put effort into maintaining their facilities.

Also there’s a 60 dollar EXTRA fee that pulls out EVERY JUNE along with your membership fee and it’s suppose to go towards the gym but there’s no possible way in goes towards that gym.

I went here for over two years but ultimately switched away in Fall 2024. I am a gym-rat who has been in gyms >40 years, and I used the pool and the gym floor in midday. The staff were nice and helpful, parking and location were great midday. I joined just after Gold's bought this older club, and I expected a remodel and new equipment. That did not happen. What did happen was a lot more members. The space and equipment limitations grew to significantly and consistently impact my midday workouts. Floor space and cable-weights were particularly limited. This was by far the closest club to my home, so I hated to switch. If Golds did a re-model I would definitely go back and check it out.

This gym has a variety of amenities, when they work. Currently, the tanning booth is out of order, the indoor spa is out of order, and the indoor pool heater is out of order. The overall cleanliness of the pool and the locker rooms leave a lot to be desired as well. There is a hole in the wall in the indoor basketball gym. Again, a lot of amenities, but clearly the owner just defers all maintenance to profit off membership dues as much as possible.

I would not have left this review if this location would answer their phone. It is very challenging to get in touch with management. They will refuse any and all requests for a discount or any option to lower a monthly bill. They will promise to give you a call to discuss your bill or a concern about something that is out of order, and never call. I have never received a call back from the manager at this location.

Rather than a gym, this Gold’s location treats itself as a membership collector for little to no service. By that, I mean they have forgotten they provide a service, and the general ethos of the culture there is “you owe us money”. Patrons pay for the gym and its full slate of equipment, not just to give money in a monthly due.

Please restore some pride in this location and make sure all the facilities are in working order. Feel free to reply to this review with a plan to address the issues stated above.

Unless you want to get scammed into paying hidden fees I wouldn’t sign up here. I came in to sign up for a “month to month” plan and I was told I could cancel anytime. Lo and behold, I went to cancel and got smacked with a $100 “enhancement fee”. Please don’t advertise something as “month to month” or “no commitment” or educate your staff correctly to inform people of this when they sign up for a short term plan. When I called the manager I had to follow up several times just to be told the fee won’t be waived. What a terrible customer experience.

If you want to get ripped off, this is the place you want to come to. They will sign you up for a dollar and then they will tell you that you can cancel, but you'll have to pay another month.
Plus they don't tell you about the 50 plus dollar maintenance fee. They just start pulling it out of your account. Because I should have known when they were so eager to get my bank account number. I called 3 days prior to the end of the month to cancel so they didn't charge me another $76. But when I called, they said, I needed to go on the internet. That was the only way I could cancel and to call their ABC headquarters. Which I did they directed me back to them and told me that I needed to go through their website. Well, trying to get on the website was a joke for 3 days. I tried the 4th day I finally called and they said it was too late. It was almost like they throttle back the website. Just a couple of days before the end of the month, so nobody can get on and cancel that's how I felt about it called them they wouldn't do anything wouldn't give me my refund. Just charge me another $76 only been there a handful of times this place has very very bad business etiquette. They are run by AB corporation. I guess that explains everything greed over customer service. So be aware, if they try to scam you in for a dollar.

Worst gym to lift I’ve ever seen. Great pool and hot tub

Won’t let me downgrade unless I am in person. Upgraded at another gym to use their pool and somehow my monthly went from $40 to $73 plus a $53 annual fee.

Called in and the manager said she couldn’t do anything. So I emailed the customer service and they wouldn’t downgrade my plan either. What a bunch of garbage business practices. This is how you run a company that will fail by screwing the people that pay for you to be in business.

I hate to say this but…. I’ve been a Gold’s member for many years and I finally decided to leave due to the manager at this gym, Cara. The worst customer service experience of my entire life.

I needed to temporarily cancel my membership due to cancer treatment. Cara was not only insensitive but insisted that she was the only person I could talk to and was demeaning- basically insisting I was lying. She yelled at me in the lobby with other people around. I honestly thought I was on a TV show and was going to be punked for how poorly I was treated by her.

I’m not sure how Gold’s still has her as a manager with how many comments are specifically calling her out. I am also not sure how she hasn’t self reflected on being more kind based on all of this feedback.

I will never be back to this gym ever. Stay away unless you want to get locked in and lose money.

This gym has a lot of positives but has some very big negatives. There are issues in this place that make it very less family friendly. We have been warning potential future families to avoid this gym.

1) There is only 1 family bathroom in this place! After kids swim lesson there is actually rat race among families to occupy the family bathroom. Usually there is a line outside that one bathroom with kids standing with wrapped around towel feeling miserably cold. Other gyms would allow small kids to use women bathroom with their mom, but the instructors here are very prompt in reminding you not to use it. So what are families with kids supposed to do? Either they should open more family bathrooms or allow kids to use women bathroom with their mom.

2) The hours need to be longer, it is only open till 9pm, leaving very little room to plan workout for working parents after putting their kids to bed.

Rachel, swim manager is awesome and is understanding to these issues.

Update: Management is a huge issue. I tried to change my month to month membership to an annual membership and faced a lot of issues similar to other posts. It took a lot of time and having the right front desk person help because manager wouldn’t. It made me regret signing up for another year. Pros: close to my house, childcare folks are great and my son likes it there, equipment has what you need.

EDIT
Have tried to reach out to Cara for several weeks to talk about the fact that upon signing their rep confirmed several times that I was signing a month to month and now they're just now letting me know it was a 12 month commitment,Julissa their "assistant manager" has been answering the phone and today shockingly started impersonating Cara- saying several times that I was speaking to Cara.

I enjoyed my time while being here.. but beware of miscommunication upon signing anything. Found out the rep had signed me onto a year contract when I had specifically asked for a month to month.. resulting in high cancellation fees. When speaking with a manager she gave me an email and I had to ask a dozen times for her to simply provide me with a name to the supervisor above her.

Cara & Rachel are absolutely terrific leaders of this community club. The experience of being a member here for nearly two years has been sooo satisfying & just keeps getting better. They’ve especially made immense improvement to the swimming program including children & parent taught classes which my son is part of. The swimming program has a pretty solid structure with instructors who really teach with sincere passion & provide all kids equal attention in enabling them to develop their skills. In my opinion, this place is VERY DISHONEST. In my case, I gave them a second chance due to change of ownership. Very disappointed by new owners. When I quit, they demanded two months and ten days' notice (quit Feb 15, forced to pay until end of April). Even when I show them broken equipment, they still don't fix it. The decrepit building is everything everyone else is saying about it. This place should simply be flattened, and the pools filled in. The stack of 1 ratings should be a good indicator to AVOID this place like the plague.

The sign up process is dishonest. We signed up for month to month membership, but when we tried to cancel, found out that we were signed up for a yearly contract that would cost my spouse $165 to cancel but it was not possible for myself or our son to cancel since we had different agreements. Called customer service, and they said only the local manager could cancel a membership. Called the local manager who said that she thought I was probably lying, and there was nothing she could do. We went in three times. My wife started one month and signed a month to month agreement. I went in two weeks later and signed the same agreement. We signed our son up shortly after. All three times, we received the same speach about month to month and cancelation. It was not true. Dishonest business practices. Avoid this place. I have never had to write this kind of review in my life.

Terrible customer service.

I emailed a question about group classes and then joined based on the answer. Turns out I had misunderstood the answer so a couple of days later when I tried to attend a class I wanted, I was told I couldn't attend due to the membership I chose. I emailed the next day that I'd like to cancel. I thought I was in the 3-day cancellation window based on when the joining fee debited my acct. No response to my email.

I emailed again a week later. No response to my email.

I called a few days later and was told they needed to talk to the manager and would call me back. No call back.

I called again and was told again that they needed to talk to the manager and would call me back. This person I also forwarded my emails to - to the email address he gave me. No response to my email and no call back.

I emailed again (this is now my 5th attempt to get a response) and finally someone emails me back in a day. They also say they need to see the email and talk to their manager.

Finally, after 20 days of me emailing and calling, they did cancel my contract but they won't refund me. I went to the gym one time. Yes, I messed up originally but when I tried to resolve it, it took over 10 calls and emails to reach the final answer.

And the final answer is that I canceled on day 5, not on day 3. They count the day you sign up as day 1. So if you think you really have 3 days to cancel, you don't. You only have 2. And if you think you're within your window but are 1 day out of it, they won't make an exception.

Terrible service. I was going to join in December at the higher membership level to take the class I want and my husband and his friend were going to join to play basketball and work out but now none of us will since this experience has been so bad. Definitely recommend against a franchised gym. Go local where they're kind and care about people.

BEWARE PREDATORY PAYMENT PRACTICES: my young adult daughter tried to cancel her membership a week before the renewal due to medical reasons, only to find out that they are still going to charge her for another month (during which they happily inform her that she is welcome to use the gym, which she of course is unable to do). The site manager was of no help, stating that it was in the contract, so too bad--she should have read the contract. Most small business I know of will work with customers in difficult situations. This is not a business that seems to care about its clients. STAY AWAY.

If you want to cancel your membership, Gold’s Gym will bounce your account to ABC fitness - an outside company that manages various gyms. I spent 4-6 months in terrible contact with this company. They are extremely difficult to contact via email and virtually impossible by phone. I had to provide proof of a new lease to be released from the contract to even be allowed to pay the $125 cancellation fee. There were also other fees tacked on that ABC fitness took off and put back on and took off, etc. While this lengthy communication took place, I continued to be charged for a monthly membership. I finally received communication from ABC fitness that an “agreed upon” payment I provided had been processed, only to be contacted months later by a collections agency requesting an amount three times the original payment. When I contacted Gold’s Gym directly, the manager told me there was nothing she could do. When I contacted ABC fitness with the direct email from them, ensuring payment had been processed, the supervisor told me there was nothing she could do. Ending up having to pay again - this time to the collections agency - to avoid harming my credit. Not a lot of options in the Camas area, but definitely believe it wasn’t worth the headache and financial letdown. Be careful!

I had a one day free pass. The class I attended by Cara was very good. The swimming facility looked great but the workout area, the group fitness room and the rest of the gym were depressing looking because the ceilings are low and it was dark.

POOR BUSINESS
Joined the gym after moving into town for work on the month-to-month plan. The new job had a free gym so I attempted to cancel in person after just 2 days since signing up. The worker on site said it had to be completed online and gave no further instructions or WARNING's that I would be charged an extra $100 for another month and yearly fee if it was not completed that day. I sent the email to corporate to cancel a couple days later and disputed the issue with them until they said the site manager could fix the problem. The site manager apologized for the worker who had poorly informed me but continued to charge me the money.

Attended the gym 2 times and attempted to cancel on my second visit, was declined and then charged a sign up fee, two months of membership (one of which I avoided with a special when signing up), and the yearly fee.

On the bright side they said I can still attend the gym that I DON'T need for another two months!

If you are thinking about signing up for month-to-month keep in mind its actually month-month-to-month-month because that is how you will be charged when you try to cancel.

We took our kids to the pool over the weekend. The pool is nice, but the lifeguard on duty was very rude and appeared visibly annoyed to have to be there. Also, the gym should require parents of minors to stay inside the pool area with their children instead of on the other side of the glass staring into their phones like zombies.

I joined this gym with an annual membership deal they were running. I specifically asked about early termination and was told that, yes you can terminate early but must pay a $150 fee. Circumstances arose that led me to request early termination and now they say I can’t unless I can prove disability or that I moved. I would stay far away from such a dishonest business.

This gym has almost everything for the average gym goer! I say 3 stars instead of 5 because the price is a bit extreme for a gym that's not very updated. Many other gyms with the same amenities for way cheaper. If it were half the price, I'd gladly keep membership, especially since this gym is the closest by.

Massage chair is not in a nice private spot at all. It's in the middle of everyone & normally teenagers are using them. My gf was somehow mistaken for one of the teens & was told to move for an older couple complaining about the wait. Which we had just arrived to the gym & she maybe sat down for 3 minutes on the chair. That was a bit odd, but I kept quiet for my gf.

Decent gym for the locals though!

While this gym is in a great location and the interior is quiet and pleasant, I have found communication with the staff to be extremely difficult. I purchased private swim lessons for my children, but even after notifying the gym several months in advance that we would be going on a family vacation during the summer, they still forced us to finish our lessons within a strict time frame. Despite only needing a two-week extension, they refused to accommodate our request.

Furthermore, the gym failed to schedule my kids' lessons properly, which caused us to worry about the expiration date of our package. In order to avoid losing our purchased lessons, I had to repeatedly reach out to the staff and push them to arrange a schedule for us. Unfortunately, no one has responded or apologized for their mistake so far.

Overall, I am disappointed with the lack of flexibility and poor communication from this gym's staff. While the facilities are nice, the frustrating experience with scheduling and customer service has left me with a negative impression.

06/15/23 to respond owner’s message below: I think owner’s message below is misleading the viewer, i have to let people known the truth. The truth is they never tried to resolve the problem, they just keep bothering by calling me over and over to force us to continue swim lessons with them instead of refunding our money due to having canceled our lessons, also no apology for their mistakes, and unprofessional behavior. We believe that this will not only rectify the issue but also encourage your team to improve its customer service and communication practices in the future.

Member now for five months. I have to say I'm much more impressed now that I'm going there for a while. Very courteous staff and the videos rotate through interesting history, music videos, and short blurbs on how to best treat the equipment and other patrons. As a result, the gym is not a mess or intimidating or distracting but actually quite good. I definitely would recommend becoming a member.

Nice club, looks small for outside but it’s big from inside good pools, cardio and weight training space are good too, Their swimming classes for kids has a little bit high prices comparing with other clubs in the area plus a very downside is before and after swimming classes the kids should change their clothes outside the building with the cold weather and rain and it’s very bad and annoying thing specially in winter time, the swimming trainers are good to be honest، My review was on la camas athletic club before it became Gold’s Gym just want to mention that.

We will never sign up for swim lessons here again. We have done swim lessons prior at the Y (parent child). We figured, let’s try Gold’s because it’s closer to home.
Here are the reasons we are so dissatisfied.
1. It is the same price as the Y but classes are 20 minutes shorter. (Classes are 45 min at the Y)
2. The instructor is a high school student who has zero confidence in her ability (if I am paying this price the instructor better know what she’s doing)
3. She hardly talks or gives any instruction (you can’t even hear her when she does talk)
4. She doesn’t know any of the songs she is supposed to teach
5. There was no introduction of herself or other kids in the class
6. The pool is FREEZING for the infants.
7. The instructor doesn’t even engage with any of the kids. At the Y even though it was parent kids classes too, the teacher came to each kid and played with them.
This was an AWFUL experience for the price you pay. I would MAYBE pay $50 for a class like this. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

This is a selfish kind of place. Absolutely not kids friendly, unorganized and I have to agree with most of the reviews - they just care about your money. You DON'T GET even close to what other places offer for less what Golds GYM charges. By the way....there is a falling rusted ceiling pieces hazard in the pool. Pool is desperately needs repairs and maintenance. I really hope this place will get a complete remodel to the now days standards and become a Family friendly place!

My daughter just started swim lessons here. I am very impressed with the staff at this gym. Very friendly and honestly friendly not fake. The pool was nice and quiet so it made a world of difference for my daughter to be able to focus on the teacher. The teacher Abby was awesome my daughter took to her immediately. Abby was very confident in her teaching but also very calm so my daughter could trust she was safe. My favorite part was how quiet everything was at this gym. A gym nearby I was going to sign her up for was so loud and overstimulating. I knew my daughter would not learn as well in that environment. I love it here. Thank you for how quiet and clean you keep the gym.I noticed some reviews about not being able to use bathroom. The staff guided us to family bathroom with a shower and toilet we are able to use, it was clean.

If I could give no stars, I would. I tried to be sympathetic as the new owners took over and got their feet under them. Our child has been part of the swim team for almost 3 years. We have spent thousands of dollars on private swim lessons. None of that seems to matter to the new owner, Michael De Monet. A huge amount of kids have quit the team because of all the chaos and poor communication (last we heard it was over 25%). We have had instructors ‘no show’ for private swim lessons, practices cancel at the last minute and the inability to schedule private lessons because of coach availability. The new coach, Wesley, doesn’t really seem to care if you stay or go and refuses to advocate for the kids. There are excuses galore for all these problems. It is obvious that this owner only cares about money. He doesn’t seem to care about good customer service, Oh! I forgot to mention that they increased the team fees by nearly double, and are now charging a yearly administration fee of $240 (aside from what you pay to the USAA fee). They have a mandatory attendance policy, which is no big deal except you are stuck paying for the year swim contract even if your child is kicked off the team for attendance. They will also not make any accommodations for students who participate in other sports. It’s very apparent Michael De Monet only cares about money. He clearly doesn’t care about our kids.

Wish I would have read all the bad reviews before I signed my children up for swim lessons! The pool was too cold for my son due to a broken heater. The calendar showed 5 weeks of classes and when we showed up for week 5 they informed us there was a mistake and it was supposed to only be a 4 week class. A communication about this should have gone out so we didn’t waste our time. Since there was a lesson then, and my kids were ready to swim, I requested they be allowed to join the lesson but was told no. When I requested a refund pro rated for the class that was advertised but we didn’t get they said that wouldn’t be fair to the other swimmers. Not many kids there, sad their poor facilities and customer service are keeping more people away. Will go somewhere else from now on!!

Like many other reviewers, I was happy to see that LaCamas Swim & Sport Club was recently taken over by new ownership and is now in the process of being upgraded with new equipment & amenities. As the original owner/builder of this club 25+ years ago (1996-2008), it is rewarding to see the legacy of serving the community continue.
I would, however, encourage the new ownership to review/revise their membership structuring. From inception, the intention of this club was to function as a family oriented community club. The demographics of Camas remain heavily weighted with families with young children, and the area is sorely underserved as far as swimming facilities. If I understand correctly the current membership structuring - there are no family memberships. So for example, a family with 2 school-age kids that primarily wants a membership to go swimming together...maybe play in the gymnasium a bit...etc (and rarely use the gym equipment & classes), they are required to have 4 upgraded memberships at a cost of $271.16 per month. That seems like a lot more than most families are willing to pay, and drives families to alternative facilities (such as Firstenberg at $91/monthly for a non-resident family; Cascade Athletic Club, etc) that are located outside the local community. I wish the new owners great success and future growth of this newly branded Gold's gym/club!

New member here. I’ve lived in Camas since 2008 and never signed up for Lacamas Swim and Sport because I felt like everything was too ran down. Once I heard Golds Gym took over, I had to go and see if anything has changed. I got to try it out for free to see how I’d like it and noticed they replaced all of the weightlifting equipment. The building inside and the locker rooms still need to be renovated and showed some TLC, but based on the new equipment being replaced, I can only imagine in due time. They just took over and we just have to be patient with these things. I was told by the front desk, that there is also talk of knocking down one of the walls in the weight room, to open it up more. I was told they are going for a very similar look as the Golds Gym in Tigard, Oregon. Time will tell and I’m sure Golds has a plan. I’m happy the first thing they chose to change was the weights and equipment, for that’s what we use the most when going to a gym. Can’t wait for what the future holds with the New Golds Gym (Camas)

WE AREN’T ALLOWED TO USE THE RESTROOM! My my kids have been going to swim lessons here. Our initial experience with the previous owners, before Golds gym took over was positive. Unfortunately since new ownership has taken over many things have changed, including the use of their bathroom. I was sent an email saying that non gym members are not allowed to use the restroom. I pay money for both my kids to take swim lessons their and I can’t go to the bathroom because I’m not a member of the gym! The next day I went in and took my kids to their swim lessons and I was told the same thing by the front desk. I could not go to the bathroom because I’m not a club member. My children were enrolled in swim lessons here. My son did level two and did well but was recommended to do level two the next session which we signed him up for. On the first day, he was for some unknown reason moved into a level one class… zero communication with the parents. When we asked about it, they claimed he was still in a level two class. When we got his evaluation today it said level one recommended to go on to level two… so basically we were lied to.

It wouldn’t have been that big of a deal except the the instructor that he was moved to spent the entire time flirting with another instructor and basically did nothing. There is no place where anyone asks parents to review the instructors… but they are not all created equal! Don’t even bother to attend unless your instructor is David or Henry, otherwise save your money and teach your child to swim them selves

Absolutely terrible experience ending my membership. I originally became a member here a few years ago to help support a local business instead of going to one of the big box clubs. Before Covid approached I had to put my membership on freeze due to a surgery. During Covid I chose to still support their business by paying a $10 fee each month to keep my membership active because I knew they would be struggling as well and I wanted to help out. After a phone conversation at the beginning of this year with Ross, the mgr at that time, my understanding was my membership was frozen until June 30, and my first month of regular dues would be July 1. I put in a notice in mid May to end my membership knowing that I was going to be paying $10 for June because I had not let them know 30 days prior to June 1. Instead they put the $10 credit on June 1 towards my account and charged me the difference for my full membership. I was told it was frozen until June and in my agreement it said it was paid up until July 1. Lisa, who is now representing the company via email, explained to me that if I filed fraud at my bank would send my account to collections and I would have to pay an additional $50 fee. What a joke! I try to help support them during Covid and instead of canceling my membership this is how they repaid me after my understanding with a conversation with the manager seemed pretty clear to me. I would highly recommend not ever getting a membership at this place under any kind of contract at all. Absolute fraud and horrible customer service. They truly only care about the dollar and being completely legalistic. Honestly if I had the time and wasn’t moving I would fight this in court if need be. I should have paid better attention to the reviews prior to signing up. Keep researching other clubs and move on from this one. No matter how “convenient” it might be for you. It’s not worth it.

I was just charged $130 dollars for nothing! We were trying to sign my daughter up for a class when we realized that we needed to push it out to a later date. We called only one hour later after we signed up over the phone. They wouldn't let us change classes and refused to refund us. We were trying to get multiple kids signed up in addition to the first, but somehow they thought we wouldn't mind if they charged us for the class we weren't able to do. When we explained that our daughter was going to get her second covid shot in two days, and that it had somehow slipped our mind that we needed to wait, they just lectured us about how other kids missed out on being able to fill her spot. In an hour? Really? We asked if anyone had called in to try and sign up since we called and they refused to answer. It was an honest mistake that we were trying to rectify, but they didn't care at all. On the first call they made no mention that there could be no changes or refunds. If they had disclosed that piece of information I would still be irritated, but I would not be this mad. I would understand if we had called the next day even, but only one hour? Are you kidding me? So ridiculous, unprofessional, and rude. It was insane. I will never, ever give them my business again.

We are with Lacamas for more than 10 years. The only reason I chose it is because it is right in the middle of my work and my house. We paid in full for one year contract with family of 3. This membership should allow us to use all facilities and group classes free of charge. Now in the middle of our contract and pandemic, they force us to change our contract to use weight room only. If I want to join any group class, I have to pay extra $45 per month for only one class per week for one person. This is more than other clubs like Crunch one month fee which can use every equipment and attend any classes. So I asked to early terminate my contract but it is not allowed. I think this club is horribly managed by owner and GM. It is definitely not worth to try! I will not renew my contract for sure!

So very disappointed in their customer service. I spoke with Ross prior to having surgery about freezing my account, they intentionally would only block out a month at a time and I was told to keep calling to extend it. I knew at the beginning how long my bedrest would be but they wouldn't extend it the entire time. And every month I called like i was supposed to. In April they did not answer (closed due to Covid) when I called to extend my hold and they ended up charging me for May 1. I was told I would not be offered a refund because I had no proof of my attempt, I asked for the charged to be reversed right away. I've tried multiple times to try to get some type of compassion but they really don't seem to care. It seems obvious they hope for customers to forget their extension and charge a month here and there. I was never allowed to do a full freeze for the duration of my recovery.

if i could give this place a negative number i would. I was happy when i found a place that was going to give swim lessons a month ago. I talked with someone on the phone for a long period of time. I was explaining that my daughter needed some help with floating on her back. The person on the phone said that she would fit into a level 4. I was ok fine lets get her signed up. It comes time for lessons. I should have known right then and there it was just going to be a bad experience overall with the way we were treated. I walk to the front counter ask a few questions and then, phone rings , staff answers it . instead of putting it on hold and finishing help myself and my child we just got forgotten about. Then come lesson time i noticed that there was no instructors in the water with the swimmers!!!!!!! this wrong on so many levels! As a past swim instructor you NEED to be in the water with kids. Now if I would of known that the instructor was not going to be in the water with my child I would have never signed up. The next thing that happens she pulls my daughter out of the class and tells her she cant be in class. How awful to do that to a 7 year old. After getting her out and then we talk to someone tell me that level she needs to be in is level 2. Ok I ask is swim teacher in the water , staff responds no its parent taught. Ummm no that is not ok with me. I ask for my money back and I cant even get that .

I just think if you are going to have all the rules of things you can and can not do . I do not think you should be offering swim lessons at this time. In my mind you are causing a huge safety issue !!!! We will not be coming back to this place .

TURNING BACK THE HANDS OF TIME WITH CHARLENE – MY PERSONAL TRAINER.
I’m a 72-year old retired high-tech executive who, over the past 30 years, has worked 60+ hours/week and traveled 100,000+ miles/year. Needless to say, all those years of improper diet and virtually no exercise took a toll on my health. My annual check-up last October revealed high glucose and blood pressure levels even though I was on medication. Plus, I generally felt tired most of the time and was losing my strength and flexibility. Clearly, I was on a downward spiral and the outlook was not good.
In January my wife convinced me to join her at a Barre exercise class at the Lacamas Swim and Sport Club. Our Barre instructor was Charlene Johnson. Well that first class was an eye opener – I lasted for less than 20 minutes out of the one-hour class and could hardly do any of the exercises. I quickly realized that I needed help and asked Charlene if she would be my personal trainer. After a consultation, Charlene developed a detailed plan tailored to my goals of increased strength and flexibility, weight loss, and improved balance. Over the past 3 months Charlene has helped me execute that plan slowly introducing new challenges as my strength improved, providing inspiration when needed, and always keeping my safety in mind. My health is improving dramatically as evidenced from my lower blood pressure and glucose levels which are now well below diabetic levels. I’ve lost 20 pounds and my strength and flexibility have improved. I’m now even able to occasionally out-drive my buddies, some of whom are eight years younger than me, on our Saturday morning golf outings.
I can’t say enough about Charlene. She has a great understanding of physiology and her personalized approach to address my specific health challenges have turned back the hands of time. I feel younger, have more energy and am ready to enjoy an active retired life with my family including our 6 young grand kids. Thank you Charlene……Ken Vartanian

I know this place is well used , and in need of many improvements, in the air circulation, and water filtration systems. The people who operate the facilities are trying very hard to keep up, but saltwater pools require more.

Wonderful people who are attentive and share their enthusiasm for you and your interests. We used it for private swim lessons for our kiddo and he loved it. Instructor is patient and doesn't rush the child no matter their ability.

This gym is overpriced for the quality of equipment available. The equipment is on par with what one would find in garage sales around questionable neighborhoods. It is clear that who owns this gym has no sense of pride in anything that they do.

We Just relocated to Camas from Chicago and have been members for 8 months. My wife has been a Manager in the fitness industry for 13 years. So I have had the perks of hearing the Good and Bad.
The Staff here is Great! And I was skeptical at first reading some reviews. You can't please everyone and things change! At the end of the day this is a Family atmosphere with all the equipment you need. The Lac-attack classes are the thing of the Future. Kiley the Fitness Director has a passion for helping people and fitness. This home town Gym has assembled a staff that amazes me. I come here to train and better my self . Picking apart past reviews are excuses not to go workout in my opinion.
Nathan the General Manager and his staff will address all your needs with the upmost respect and make you feel like family. We truly enjoy coming here.

I Would not recommend anyone do business with Lacamas Athletic Club. As a 3 year customer I would use the gym 4 or 5 days a week. I had always paid upfront for my membership in full at the beginning of each year. I was never in a monthly contract, nor did I wish to be in one. Towards the end of my 3rd year the staff started to remind me that my membership would expire soon, calling several times asking if I would like to renew my membership. After telling the staff I needed more time to consider it I removed my payment information from their system, and decided not to pay for another year. I wanted to cease doing business with the gym due to the many problems you can read about in other google reviews. Several months go by without another phone call. Imagine my surprise, and frustration when I was informed by mail from a payment collections agency that I was unknowingly switched to a month to month payment plan at the gym when my prepaid year expired and now owe several months of membership dues. Upon contacting the staff of Lacamas I was told to wait several hours to speak with “the payment guy”. The employee was able to show me the small line of print that allowed him to continue to bill me and was “quite comfortable” with this line of print when I suggested it be removed so that others in the future would not be placed in the same situation. I am very disappointed and hope this never happens to anyone else.

I've been a member of this gym for a year, and I've really enjoyed everything the club has to offer. Here is why I gave this club 5 stars:

1) Diversity of Training Options: The club has all the equipment you need to train alone, and it also offers tons of group classes. The group classes are in two categories...1) free which are great to challenge yourself in a group environment... 2) fee which are more personalized and intense. The price for the fee classes are less than $10 (less if you buy in bulk) which is a deal compared to other gyms in the area.

2) Staff: The staff is incredible. I really enjoy going to the gym, and I think the team that has been assembled at site is really good. I read some reviews about the staff being rude, but I have never been treated rudely. I feel like I'm treated like family.

3) Family Friendly: My wife and 4 year old love going to this gym. My wife feels comfortable going to group classes which has never happened at other gyms. My son loves the Kids Club. He actually gets upset if we don't go the gym.

Changing my review from a 5 to a 3 since after one month of lessons we were unable to sign up for the same class so my daughter could continue because it was already full. The class just ended yesterday and we were given no indication that was the case. The person on the phone could have cared less. I like the swim instruction here but the customer service has continuously been lacking.

previous review: At the last minute, I signed up my children for a two week intensive swim class, not really knowing what to expect. Let me tell you, I am really impressed! Having been to a couple other places around town that were incredibly loud, this facility was quiet and very relaxed. There were only two classes going at the same time and both, obviously experienced, instructors were patient, kind, loving - I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Both of my children gained confidence and skills, I highly recommend them for swimming lessons!

We were loyal members for almost 10 years. It was a convenient location and the times worked fairly well for our family of 5 swimmers. Even though over the years we saw many of our friends have to leave do to poor treatment from the club we never thought it would happen to us. It's very obvious for LaCamas Athletic Club that it's all about the money and not about retention. They will lock you into a contract and then they will make changes to their hours and/or program availability and they will even change your contract even though you cannot. They will cancel your contract and then set you up with a new one forcing you to pay more money. They will tell you one thing, like a used car salesman, but then have you sign another. If you are thinking about joining this club my advise is to read your contract, don't listen to what they tell you and don't be surprised if it changes on you. Also, NEVER put more in your swim account than you need to because once it goes in it will never come out. It cannot be transferred to a sibling or used to cover other payment. We left because the swim team was falling apart and they were grasping at straws to keep it together. This meant schedules were changing and contracts were being changed on us. The hours available for adult evening swim were being cut back to 45 minutes twice a week. At Cascade Athletic Club we can swim any time of day until closing. We might have considered moving back at some point when our schedules aligned better with theirs but after the way we were treated upon leaving we will never return.

Pool is too cold!!!! Great people, wonderful local Camas Athletic facility but Lordy is the pool cold. Why? Is Money a factor? I am a former member I always wondered why it was always too cold. Especially the age of the clientele during the adult swim or water aerobic classes. We all wanted it warmer. This is a beautiful club and they offer many different activities. I just can’t stand a cold indoor pool.
Update-Business responded. Local indoor pools are kept at at constant 87 degrees. As I said Lacamas Swim N’ Sport is colder than all other local indoor/lap pools. This was my point. It is not enjoyable.

I'm updating my review. Several changes have taken place that are very refreshing and worthy of adding stars. One of the biggest changes have been key staff people. A couple of the staff members have made a big difference to me. Nathan and Ross are making some great changes that have been long overdue. Mostly in keeping the equipment in tip top shape. New and fun equipment has been added. Can't thank these two guys enough for listening to concerns and doing something about it!

Very bad ownership. I have been joining the club more than 10 years and they recently changed lots of classes. They put on lots of extra fee classes and remove lots of afternoon and evening member fitness classes. Stopped at the front desk and tried to express my opinion, the owner just kept saying, make sure your classmates are signing in, make sure you are signing in the class..... Super disappointed about the ownership and the cancellation of the no extra charge classes.

The Zumba on Friday got cancelled and I talked to Dennis who was super mean. Can you fix that?
