Dark and shabby, with old machines that have not been maintained or even lubricated. Nice folks at the desk and I appreciate a non-chain gym, but owners clearly are not investing in their business. Found much better for less at LA Fitness down the street.

One of the best gyms I've ever been to. An extraordinary amount of high quality and well maintained equipment, friendly staff and attendees, and shockingly cheap membership or single day fees.
Not the fanciest, but incredible bang for your buck

I went here for a couple years while I lived in Seattle. I have since moved away but I really enjoyed going to Greenlake Fitness. It was never too crowded and it felt more authentic than a big chain.

I never did any of the classes but there is plenty of equipment. It seemed like it wasn't meant to be a gym originally, the layout is kind of weird, but doesn't hurt anything.

There is a dry sauna, which is a nice amenity on a cold day. I would go back if I still lived here!

I love this gym. It’s never busy and they have a very thorough range of equipment which are literally the only two things I care about in a gym. As an added bonus the staff is super nice.

+1 for convenience
+1 for staffing
-1 the hours suck if you like to workout late
-1 they make you cancel in person
-1 it’s kind of meh for the monthly rate
- I hate the music that’s played overhead. Make sure your headphones are noise cancelling if this is something that bothers you.

Pass if you live next to a different gym. But it’s fine if you really value convenience.

Been a member of several gyms. The staff experience on sign up was the best ever. Jillian toured with me and explained everything I needed. There were clear explanations of join fee, first and last month. Very reasonable price for the equipment you get-6 squat racks! Trainer Roosevelt also welcomed me on first workout-I left smiling after deadlifts. Really dum dum negative reviews! I’m so happy. No peacocks or attitude at Greenlake Fitness.

Great gym. 5 squat racks (including 3 with powerlifting bumper sizes), reasonably priced. Don’t let the β€œmake appointment” language intimidate you from going in as a guest β€” they have a staffed front desk, you just need to ring the bell

I used to go to this gym but because of moving around I had to cancel my membership. Now that I'm back in the area I was looking around for a gym and trying places again. My family's in town for the week so I went for a day with my family and I for my dad to show us some lifting techniques. We met Ben at the reception who was very helpful and kind and even let us borrow his straps for lifting because we forgot ours. I think the friendly service and welcoming community feeling, combined with the solid gym equipment and less people, are strong reasons to come back. I plan on getting a membership here soon in the coming days. Definitely the best gym I've been to and beats the big chain gyms.

We were in the area so I can undergo surgery to donate a kidney and husband was wanting a gym to use while we are here for 2 weeks. This gym was just what he needed! Friendly and welcoming staff, quality equipment and great space! They have great selection of weights and lots of cardio equipment to choose from as well. If we lived closer our family would most definitely join.

Way better than any of the bigger chain gyms in the area. A lot of squat racks (6?) for a gym on the smaller side. I could always find one even during peak hours. If I didn't move away I would definitely have kept going here. Everything is clean and everyone is nice and polite, go here for sure if you're in the area.

This gym is a hidden gem. They have a ton of machines, lots of free weights, and bunches of cardio equipment. The staff is very helpful, the place is extremely clean, and the clientele is always courteous. Plus the pricing is extremely reasonable for the area.

It is a humble space, and yes the equipment is old, but they have everything. Signing up is easy, cancelling (only because I’m moving) was easy as well. Doesn’t feel too crowded and there are cleaning supplies available to clean equipment after you use it EVERYWHERE. Overall feels like a safe space, and the community is courteous. Highly recommend for anyone just trying to get in a good workout.

They don’t enforce the mask mandate

Source: Google

James Cameron (MacGillFhaolain)

This gym's website states that masking is optional for fully vaccinated members. This is incorrect - masks are required re: King County mandate. And it says nothing about full vaccination or a negative covid test being required for patrons beginning today, October 25, 2021.

The gym itself is great, but the management is really unhelpful with cancellations. I had to cancel my membership due to an unexpected move, and I notified the gym just a few days after the billing cycle. They refused to refund my auto-payment for the following month, even though I already paid 1st and last month's dues when I signed up in the first place.

In other words: They claim to offer flexible month-to-month memberships, and then they refuse to work with you when you have to cancel.

One of the best gyms I’ve had a membership at.
Great staff, never busy, cleaner than most.

They also care what equipment members want constantly adding things.

100% worth the price.

Also love how upfront they are with the price. Many gyms aren’t.

It's the only gym I've gone to so I have nothing to compare it with to, but I have no reason to go to another one; I'll continue going .
Fully equipped, weights, workout machines, classes in aerobics, pilates, yoga, and Tai Chi, I'm very satisfied.

I've been super impressed with GreenLake Fitness' committment to COVID-19 safety precautions. They have divided the gym into "zones" and require you to reserve an hour-long time slot in whatever zone you choose. The online time/zone registration process is super easy, and I've never had an issue getting my desired time window. They screen you for symptoms at check-in, require you to sanitize your hands prior to working out, require you to wipe down equipment after each use, and require the use of masks. I feel very safe working out there and am impressed with the number of free weights, machines, cardio equipment, etc.

I only stayed in Seattle for one month and I wrote to their manager to see if they offer one month membership. They told me yes and was willing to waiver the card fee. When I signed up in person, they told me they will charge it upfront and refund when I check-out after one month. And later when I sign off, they told me it is a one-time non-refundable fee....of course, 19 buckes is definitely nothing. I just don't think any business should over promise their customer for something they cannot hold on to. It is not professional.

Just started going here and I absolutely love it. You can set everything up online, you have a free trail for the first day, and everyone is super nice. The Zone system works really well, and all the equipment is in good condition and clean. Recommend for sure!

My wife and I joined this gym because they connect with both the Silver Sneakers and the Silver and Fit programs. Admittedly, there is no charge for our membership. I have never wanted to join a gym, preferring to work out at home. I must say, though, that I and my wife are loving this gym. It is smaller and more intimate than the larger, factory style gyms, and we have found the people to be very friendly and helpful. There is always equipment available for us and I have been able to work cardio, upper and lower body with a variety of machines and weights. My wife has a personal trainer, and he has been wonderful. She has problems with her knees, and he is very attuned to her specific needs.

The gym is kept at a nice cool temperature which is perfect for workouts. They provide lockers, showers, and a dry sauna, as well as rooms for stretching, a track, and lots of classes. I also really like the looseness at the gym. I could not imagine feeling more comfortable in such a space, and when needed, the people there, both workers and other users, are very helpful.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS GYM!!! I've gone to gyms across the world for the better part of two decades. This was the strangest, and one of the most unpleasant experiences I've ever had in a gym. First, I received unsolicited gym etiquette advice from one of the trainers. I took a 25lbs plate from a flat bench rack, NOT THE BAR, the rack. He tells me I should ask before using a RACKED weight. All this while he was working with a client on a super-set! He and the client are taking two pieces of equipment, which is a clear violation of the most basic of gym etiquette, when there are a numerous customers training on the floor. I can only deduce that this tiny man felt threatened. I go to the gym to exercise and leave, this gym is filled with a core group of members and trainers that feel as though the gym BELONGS to them. 10 minutes later, another trainer, friend of the first trainer, asked me if I was finished with the universal bar on the strong man rack. Since the bar was empty, as I re-rack my weights and clean the equipment I previously used, I thought the answer was obvious, but she need clarification. I replied to her question with, "Yes, ma'am." (I just completed 22 years in the Army, being respectful is a bad habit of mine.) She took great offense to the 'Ma'am' I gave her. I turned my headphones off, but kept them on my head so I could listen. The first trainer is now engaged in an in-depth conversation with no less than five other customers regarding the proper use of 'Ma'am' vs. 'Miss.' I could only roll my eyes and leave. STAY AWAY FROM THIS GYM!!! There is a strong clique and if you arrive and appear to be somewhat in shape they will find cause to hassle you! I went to war four times and this gym visit STILL tops the list of strangest experiences I've ever taken part in. STAY AWAY FROM THIS GYM!!! Not to mention the goofy layout and ancient equipment!

The new owner has done a great job! I like the new machines and floor plan, as well as the re-branding. I have been coming to this gym (when it was Anderson's and then American Athlete) for 18 years and so appreciate and value the incredible community of fellow gym-goers. The staff are wonderful too.

While it might be s simple gym it has everything you'd need to get your workout on. Including no attitude. And great staff. Especially the trainers and I highly recommend him if you can get home. Great gym and knows how to get your body in shape and still have a smile on your face. Just go ahead and make an appointment to try both the gym and him out. You won't regret it.

American Athlete is a great facility, conveniently located in Greenlake, with excellent equipment, numerous classes/programs, and experienced personal trainers serving the young to the not-so-young. They also honor the national "Silver Sneakers" program. It's a local business with helpful and capable staff, and a super place to work out. I already recommend it to all my friends.

Pros:
The location is excellent for those that live in Green Lake and would just like to walk to their work out. There is no pretension or meat market atmosphere, the staff is more than just generically friendly and the, mostly older, clientele never pack the gym or whine about the lack of constant upgrades in the equipment. The personal trainers love what they do and it shows. There is no contract to join. There are no obnoxious TVs everywhere to draw your gaze while you run. It's always easy to get on any machine you want.

Cons:
The equipment is in decent shape but almost all 10 years old. The monthly price is a little higher than more modern gyms.

I've been a member for over two years now. Super duper uber convenient to where I live, which is a huge bonus/plus for me. Overall it has been very positive, but like any place there are going to be pros and cons:

Pros:
1. Wide range of equipment (cardio, weights, mats, etc), spread across a good number of square feet.
2. Wide variety of classes offered, price is included in membership (which is why the cost is higher than some, I believe)
3. Friendly staff, generally very positive vibe.
4. 30 minute personal training session included in membership each month! Great way to have a 'check in' and have some accountability without paying extra.
5. They solicit feedback regularly, though it isn't very transparent on how they actually act upon it.
6. Parking is included in membership (though I've never used it).
7. There's a sauna!
8. They try to participate in local events, promote local businesses.

Cons:
1. While some equipment is new (appears to be the more "trendy" types), a few groups feel neglected. There is really only one good Stair Master (out of three), and only one rowing machine (the other two are a joke - one doesn't have a computer and the other is an ANCIENT wooden water-resistance model). Neither of these two types have been upgraded or fixed in the last two years (despite my regular requests).
2. The wide variety of classes often take place during the day (between 9 and 5), which makes it hard for desk-jobs like me to take advantage. Would love to see more weekend/weeknight variety.
