About the Club

Gritworks Athletics is Bellingham's premier sports performance center. Our gym was founded with the goal of developing an innovative approach to sport training focused on building a strong athletic foundation and individualized personalized to each athlete's unique goals. Our athletic training programs include movement training, injury prevention, speed and agility training, power development, S&C and energy system conditioning. At Gritworks, our experienced coaches guide trainees through intense 60 to 75-minute specialized training sessions dedicated to helping athletes of all ages and abilities reach their full potential in sport and life.

My name is James. I had a very negative experience here for all my sessions. The trainers lack experience and don’t want to focus on my needs but their cookie cutter mold of doing things. I don’t recommend this place. It’s not worth the money.

My son has been part of the Gritworks Junior GRIT program for the past eight months, and the experience has been truly transformative. We first joined because he wanted to improve his sports performance, but what really caught our attention was Gritworks’ philosophy on mental toughness and building a true “grit” mindset.

The coaches have been incredibly supportive, encouraging him while also being diligent in his development. The program focuses on so many important aspects, proper technique, efficient movement, injury prevention, and, most importantly, mental resilience. I especially appreciate that each session starts and ends with a team meeting where athletes set goals and reflect on their mindset, not just for training but for life. They also journal before each session, which I love as an educator, journaling is such a powerful tool for self-reflection and building executive functioning skills.

My son looks forward to every training. He has come out of his shell, and we’ve seen huge growth in both his self-confidence and his physical ability. The positive, inclusive culture the Gritworks coaches have built truly inspires every athlete to reach their full potential. We’re so grateful to be part of this program. Highly recommend!

Gritworks has been great for both of my children. They are learning a lot about health and nutrition, but most importantly they are being taught what it takes to be an athlete. The instructors are very well informed and truly have the kids best I treat at heart. I also really appreciate the motivation support they provide both athletically and emotionally. Gritworks has been an absolute game-changer for our family. Both of my kids - my 13-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son - have benefitted tremendously from their program.

My daughter had been struggling with persistent knee pain that was starting to take the joy out of sports for her. The Gritworks team not only addressed the pain, but got to the root of the issue. They focused on strengthening her hips and building a strong foundation, and the results have been incredible. She’s now moving with more confidence and strength, and is back to doing what she loves without discomfort.

My son has been in the program for about five months now, and the progress he’s made is undeniable. His speed, agility, and overall strength have taken a huge leap forward. He’s more coordinated, more powerful, and maybe most importantly, he’s really enjoying the process.

We can’t recommend Gritworks enough. Their approach is intentional, encouraging, and grounded in helping kids develop strong, resilient bodies and minds! Whether your child is recovering from injury or just looking to level up in their sport, Gritworks is an incredible resource.

Gritworks has been one of the most impactful aspects of our twin boys physical and emotional development over this past year. The focus not only on athletic development, strength and conditioning but also on character development and personal growth has been exactly the environment we were wanting our boys to be part of. Gritworks is an amazing facility, with excellent coaches and has been a game-changer for my daughter! She has a history of both hyper mobility as well as a fractured ankle. Her training at Gritworks has taught her proper form, built strength to support her joints and is a TON of fun! She felt she could be much more aggressive on the soccer field, could make directional changes without hesitation and with NO pain! This program lies about one on one training, the majority of the times I’ve gone there’s more than seven kids per instructor, and extremely minimal help beyond just how to do a movement. They promised me going into it, I’d have help with my stress levels and confidence in my sport, along with a personalized training plan, I never in three months talked with anyone about how to fix the mental issues with my sport, and the “personalized” training plan was almost identical to soccer and volleyball players (I do wrestling). They claim our notebook we write in helps make sure they understand how we’re feeling and how prepared we are… none of that happened. I expressed not enjoying the program during my three months, and how I was disappointed all the claims they made weren’t happening, they then told me we’re going to have more meetings with me and figure out how to make it better, but once again none of that happened. This program is an overpriced scam, anyone is better off just going to a gym, waste of my time and $1200.

We feel so grateful to have found Gritworks four years ago. Stephen and Michael have built a facility and invested in training staff that deliver so much more than physical output. They build confidence in these kids. Incorporating our son's interests into the routine helped build a trust that allowed Stephen to push his limits, to set goal after goal, and to be proud of the results. I highly recommend Gritworks for athletic training! My two children have been attending classes (Soccer Grit and Junior Grit) for over four years and without a doubt, it is their favorite part of their week. Michael and Steve have built such a positive, supportive community for all their athletes. Michael has helped my son not only grow athletically, but also emotionally. Michael goes above and beyond supporting his athletics; he has attended many of my son's soccer games. My daughter has enjoyed many years of Mini, and now Junior Grit. My son has been attending GritWorks for 1.5 years, and it has been a defining program for his athleticism but also his character. He started with Jr. Grit as an introduction and then went to Elite Grit where he improved immensely in his strength and mobility. He now does Soccer Grit where he is honing in on specific soccer skills that we have seen transfer to the pitch time and time again. It is incredibly rewarding for him (and us) to see his improvement. As our son looks towards college in the next several years, he knows he has a support system at GritWorks that will develop him as an elite athlete but also as a person defined by good character. Michael and Steve are very approachable, great listeners and they are in your athlete's corner. I would recommend GritWorks to any athlete looking to improve their skills at any level and to any parent/guardian looking for a positive and professional experience for their athlete.

I highly recommend them for athletic and sports performance from youth sports to adult fitness. Michael, Alyssa, and Steve have the best experience in team sports and they bring these expertise into training these athletes to reach their full potential. I recently joined their adult fitness classes and it has allowed me to work harder, be pushed to my limits and I feel the difference in my day to day activities. I can run faster and longer and it has enhanced my quality of life.
