I recently visited Covington Hot Yoga on 6/13/18 for the 5pm class. Upon walking in the instructor (woman) looked at me and said “um, can I help you?” I proceeded to tell her, “yes, I’m dropping in for the 5pm class.” During our interaction as I was paying she was very rude and did not make eye contact.

This would not have bothered me if I hadn’t come in a week prior and experienced the same interaction from the same lady.

I am a fitness community advocate throughout the Pierce and King County region. I share and promote my fitness experiences with 1,000s of people in our community. I will be sharing the horrible experiences - I’ve encountered at Covington Hot Yoga.

Horrible studio. My coach jacket was stolen from this studio. I called the manager, Kim, and asked that she check the camera in front of the door. She informed me that it is a "fake camera". She also informed me that a members car had been stolen from in front of the studio! Unfortunately, they were unable to help the police. The owner was informed of the situation and asked to install "real" cameras but has not installed them to date. Not a safe studio.

I have taken a number of classes at this yoga studio and love it. The teachers really know their stuff, are happy to assist with modifications, and take a genuine interest in their student's yoga journey. The studio is very clean, the students are friendly (many appear to have developed friendships through here) and each teacher brings a unique gift to their class. For $10 for first time students to try it, I am not sure why anyone would hesitate to improve their overall wellbeing.

The atmosphere at HYI Covington is warm and comfortable. The studio is very clean as well. You can tell it has been well taken care of. I have only had good experiences with the staff who are quick to help with questions or concerns. If you let the teachers know about any existing issues you may have before they are happy to offer variations of poses in class for you!

I have not had a good experience with the Covington, WA location for several reasons. My husband and I purchased the 10-class introductory package in December looking for a new studio after moving back to the area. The first class we did was Hatha, and let me tell you – I have done Hatha yoga in Phoenix, AZ in the middle of summer and this was still the hottest class I have ever done. I like it hot and have done hot yoga more times than I can count, but when you have to stay on your mat to keep from touching the heated floor because it’s burning your skin it is too hot. This is not to mention the heating elements on the ceiling – two long black panels that are eerily similar to the ones in your oven at home – not the most ‘zen’ experience I have ever had.

Nevertheless, I love hot yoga and was willing to give this place another try until two very unprofessional incidents. First one was when we attended Zen on Wednesday evening. My husband “rented” a mat for our first class since his mat became worn out. When we tried to do this again for the second class they rang me up for a brand new $30 mat instead. When I clarified that I wanted to rent a mat the girl at the desk told me that “they don’t rent mats because of all the sweating and that someone gave you (my husband) someone’s gross sweaty mat from the lost and found.” Disgusting! He ended up using a towel from home and no mat for that class.

Shortly after the second class, I suffered a badly sprained ankle that kept me from being able to practice. However, even after all of this I wanted to try to continue to practice. I emailed the studio with a photo of my ankle and asked them if they would be able to extend my trial into January since I had only tried two classes and if I was going to buy more I wanted to make sure it was a good fit – especially after the above incident. I received a canned response that they will not extend my trial but they would offer me a discount on their not-cheap packages. No thank you!

This has been the worst yoga experience I have ever had after many years and many studios. This place is not about community or the principles that yoga teaches and I would not recommend it to anyone unless they want to throw hundreds of dollars at a studio as generic and inauthentic as a 24-hour fitness. At least at 24 they have clean towels.

I have been going to this place for about 10 months and I like it a lot. The room is super spacious and the staff has been friendly and professional. I would personally prefer lower temperature.
