We looked a few other places before we started, I'm so glad we choose Hwang's, the Masters and Instructors here are amazing. My seven year old has been coming for a little over 2 years now, and we're very pleased with his progress and improved confidence among other changes.

We liked the school. The master is great with kids.
But it is too loud for small kids to focus.

Many years ago I got a Black Belt at Hwang's Tae Kwon Do and recently I found a way to return. I am home again. I am grateful and joyful. Now I am working on getting flexible again. Many thanks to a few old friends and all my new ones.

Thank you Grand Master Hwang and Master Furukawa for carrying on the disciplined traditions of Taekwondo in our community. My 2 girls have been in this school for the last 9 years and I have been at this school for the last 2 years. As both a parent and student at this school I am proud and humbled by the way the instructors instill discipline, focus and self-confidence in every student. The instructors in the school and after-school program are caring and fun, while teaching the children responsibility and ownership. This is great school to learn techniques through poomsays and sparring as well as exhibit your passion for Taekwondo through the demo team which competes regularly. I look forward to many more years of practice at this Dojong!

I keep meaning to write a review - I cannot give higher praise to the instructors and masters. They're great teachers and while they encourage us to push ourselves, they also support students who need to modify the exercises/drills due to the students' abilities or injuries.
The classes are always fun and it's been great to workout with my classmates and see how we all improve. It is definitely the highlight of my week!

We are excited to watch our kids grow in a school that supports their differences and challenges their goals. TaeKwonDo is not just an activity or a hobby it is by far the best investment we have made for our two kids. The Hwang's TKD is absolutely amazing. Great staff, great instructors and most importantly my kids are learning respect, discipline & leadership skills at such a young age.

We have been looking for a tae-kwon-do place for my son for quite some time, and he wasn’t finding any that interested him. From the moment he trialed a class, it was clear that this place was special. My son instantly connected with instructors and rapidly learned and caught up to the class as a result. The instructors provide top notch instruction, and make the classes fun. Extremely well run taekwondo school.

Overall I am impressed by the quality of the instruction and the courses offered. After we moved from Chicago to Seattle, we were looking for an institute that will help continue my kid's aspiration to become a black belt and Hwang's Tae Kwondo helped her achieve that dream. Apart from the techniques, they focus on discipline and overall well being of the kids. The app is an added advantage to practice at home. I also loved their preparation sessions before the actual tests that gave ample opportunity for kids to understand what to expect during the actual exam. Here they not only learns various forms, they get exposure to sparring, Korean vocabulary and history of Taekwondo. I definitely recommend this institute.

I started going to Hwang’s when I was 9 and was enrolled in the after school program. This program helped my family to ensure I was being taken care of and I was able to learn the traditions and techniques of Taekwondo. Hwang’s has a very dedicated and helpful staff that fosters growth not only in physical skills but also personal development. Hwang’s has given me some of my greatest friends and encouraged me to stay active and learning.

I have been training at Hwang's Taekwondo since age 5 and I loved every second of it. In 3 years of learning I was black belt thanks to the loving staff like Alex Park who taught me the Taekwondo Way by helping me every step of the way with positive encouragement to challenge me and become a better black belt. Studying Taekwondo contributed to building my self confidence and making me who I am. I reccomend Hwang's Taekwondo to anyone who is looking for a great way to grow, become strong, and looking for a warm and highly professional environment to learn Taekwondo.

My daughter has been studying Taekwondo in this school for years. Now she is wearing a blue bell. We are all very proud of her. She likes this school very much! I also enjoy watching her growing up with others together. She does not only learned the skills but also act properly at home and at school. I'd like to thank her masters. They all very professional and responsible. I can see they love their apprentices from their heart. Best place for kid to grow.

This school I think is very into teaching but the costs that you have to pay is little excessive but he demo team gives good amount of practice and rally motivates us to improve, I think this would be a great school to go to if you can handle the costs, but there are many more options there

As both a student and an instructor at Hwang's Taekwondo, I can truly recommend it. I've been going here for ten years, throughout that time I have learned a lot about myself and Taekwondo. It has helped me become more confident in life as well, a truly life changing experience.

After at least 10 years here, the instructors have always been very helpful and all of the people are always welcoming. Besides just physical technique, I have learned a great deal about responsibility in my time here. All of the classes are well catered to teach kids positive characteristics along with taejwondo. The after school program is also reliable and fun for the kids.

I have been a student at Hwang's TaeKwonDo since 1994. Hwang's TKD has always been about students. when I started, I loved the attention I was receiving to learn the basics. As I moved up the rank, I have never forgotten the importance of the basic training I had received and therefore used my experience to help and teach others, Over the years I have seen many children become adults and have seen the difference this school and TKD has made in their lives.

This is a very good school. I have been going here for 6 years and have not only learned valuable self defense skills, but I have also learned better study habits, respect, and discipline. The Instructors are dedicated and highly qualified. Class is fun, and I have gained many good friends over the years. My confidence has improved , and I have seen many other shy kids become more confident as well. The life skills, good friends, and exercise are all worth the time and effort.

I have been going to Hwang's Tae Kwon DO for six years, becoming a second degree black belt and a junior instructor for the school. Throughout my time at the school I have not only grown in physical ability but confidence and respect as well. In addition, every instructor is dedicated to their students and helping them to learn and grow. I have gained valuable skills for defending myself as well as leading and communicating with others. The classes are also a lot of fun for both children and adults.

My daughter has been going to this dojang for 9 years. She started as a young, uncoordinated blob, and progressively over these last few years, she has become a fine young girl, now a second degree black belt, and an instructor at the dojang. From experience from when I hold targets for her to practice, and she occasionally misses, her punches hurt a lot. Kicks more so (ouch). She's become much more disciplined, has somewhere to put her boundless energy, and actually shows interest behind something. From keeping their interest in kids class, to honing their skills in adult class (13 and up), I highly recommend this dojang for you and your family.

My wife, 4 children and I all studied under Master Hwang. Hwang's has a well rounded curriculum which focuses not only on learning the physical techniques of a martial art, but also introduces the students into the philosophy. For adults this is interesting. For children this gives them exposure to a different culture. It is well structured and the instructors have all gone through the same program so they can help. Hwang's has also structured this so that for those who are interested, you can learn with your kids. It is a very supportive environment, and the kids particularly learn a lot more than a Martial Art. And from a physical standpoint, the balance, focus, stretching....helped our children in the sports they pursued later in life.

My daughter has been going to Hwang’s for three years, during which time she has grown tremendously and gained a great deal of confidence. At age 5, she started at a different martial arts school in the area, to help her gain some skills to overcome her shyness. Unfortunately, this other school’s teaching style did not accommodate kids like her, who are more hesitant and cautious, which was disappointing, because this was one of the reasons why we wanted her to try martial arts. At the first sign of nervousness, she was told that weakness and tears were not allowed on the mat, and was made to sit out. At age 5. Which I found appalling.
Enrolling instead at Hwang’s was one of the best decisions we have made for her. The instructors have been wonderfully patient and encouraging, never shaming her for crying when she has struggled. Instead, with just the right amount of good-natured encouragement, she has felt supported and welcomed, has overcome so much anxiety and self-doubt, and three years later she is a proud junior black belt, at age 8. The confidence she has gained has carried over into her school and social life, and I can safely say that we largely have Hwang’s to thank for this.
We feel that the curriculum for kids is age-appropriate and a good balance and progression of physical and mental discipline. General kids’ classes do not teach hardcore elite-level technique, and that is fine. Customers seeking more intensive martial arts experience are free to sign up for private lessons, or ask about enrolling in the Olympic training class. There will always be fees involved with testing and tournaments, and black belt promotion involves time and financial commitment just as at any reputable taekwondo school. For the positive changes we have seen in our daughter through taekwondo at Hwang’s, we strongly feel that the investment is well worth it.
Lead instructors and masters have all been welcoming, friendly, and willing to take time to answer any questions or concerns. All the instructors, including the assistants, are excellent role models for the younger students. Master Hwang takes pride in each student who comes through the door. The enrollment has grown a lot recently, and the school is undergoing renovations to accommodate the growth. Our family looks forward to many more years to come, and more dan stripes on those belts.

Excellent instructors. Other reviews here mention the large class sizes. However, this is variable depending on the time and day of the class. They offer several classes each day (except Fridays). Some classes are big, and some are small, mainly because they are pretty flexible to accommodate your schedule. Lessons are twice a week, and if you cannot make it on your scheduled day and time, you can ask to switch to another class just for that week. They always request that you call ahead to see if there is room, but invariably, some parents just show up at another time slot. This can make the class size big, but I've never seen them turn students away because of it. They seem to understand that sometimes juggling a kid's activity schedule can be difficult. There is also the option of coming to a "make-up" class on Saturday mornings if you miss a day during the week.
The instructors are good with kids, and accept students as young as 4. In addition to TKD, they also teach respect for parents and importance of school. Kids are tested on "home rules" during each belt test (eg. keeping your room clean, respecting your elders, being nice to siblings, etc). They also have an after-school program, and will pick up a student from school, and bring them to the dojang.

The school is professionally run and most of the instructors are highly skilled and dedicated. The kids classes are enjoyable and kids friendly. They even attempt to teach some life lessons to the kids and organized competition between TKD schools in the region. All these are good aspects that they should maintain.
My biggest complain for the school would be the HUGE class sizes. It seems that they just keep growing without turning any parents down for kids enrollment. This brings down the level of personal attention between the instructors and students.
Second issue with the school is that they seem to be afraid to fail any student during belt tests. Perhaps they think that parents would be mad if their kids fail. This causes the instructors to focus ALOT on poomsae (forms) patterns to make the kids remember the steps during lessons. When I was learning TKD as a kid, in another school, our class size was much smaller and we were expected to learn and remember the steps ourselves. If we don't practice and remember our poomsae, we can actually fail our belt tests. For those kids that exceeded expectations during the tests, they are rewarded with double belt promotion. This caused us to be stressed out enough to actually practice hard. In Hwangs, the kids are sort of "carried through" each belt test by the instructors as the instructors still demo the form pattern step-by-step to the kids during the tests. In the unlikely chance that some kids still fail, they can retake the test again a week later. I have also never seen any kid been awarded with double belt promotion so it is a little "socialistic".
This leads to my concern about the quality of higher level belts in the school, especially in the areas of the quality of their kicks and sparring. There is just not enough time for kicking practices in Hwangs. I would rather that they share out a URL for correct poomsae (forms) demo video and have the kids learn them at home. The classes should be focused more on aspects that are hard for the kids to learn themselves like the quality of their kicks, blocks, stances, sparring techniques, the individual weaknesses of each kid and instructors should target these weaknesses to help them improve rather than memorizing the pattern itself since that can be learnt by the students at home through watching a video than to waste the precious lesson time on.
In summary, they did do a little of what I suggested above but not enough, as the classes are so huge and they spent way too much time during lessons teaching them to remember each step of the poomsae while neglecting the other important aspects of learning TKD.

My feeling about this school is that it was about money and flash more than learning life skills and a martial art. Master Huang and the school appears to be too grandiose and not humble. Not much concern about the development of the student but more concern about the monetary success of the school. Also, 65 percent of class time is spent just doing jumping jacks and jogging. Sparring is useless since it is always LIGHT CONTACT. Class sizes are too big for the money you pay. Often times, the students just train each other than receiving instructor guidance. Many of the instructors are true professionals.....just too bad the work for Master Huang's school. Too flashy for me. Lots of packaging.....not much content!!!!!
