Johansen Olympia Dance is absolutely amazing! The instructors are so talented and encouraging, and the whole studio feels like a second family. The choreography is always creative and fun, and the dancers are incredibly passionate and skilled. Our daughter has been dancing with Johansen's dance in Olympia for 2 years. She began as a 5th grader and was older than many at her level. We were concerned that might be a challenge for her self esteem. The instructors and owners were kind and welcoming always and gave her encouragement along the way. She has found so much joy in dance and we are grateful! We have found the studio to be body positive, provide ample opportunity to grow, be challenged and have fun. This studio has a rich history in our downtown and after experiencing it for the last 2 years it's easy to see why this gem is beloved.

My son has been dancing there for over 10 years. He is just finishing up the pre professional program at the Milwaukee Ballet. Ken, Josie and instructors are not only great teachers, but wonderful mentors that can help guide a dancer into a dance career. They curate professional shows and ensure each dancer gets the instructions and encouragement they need to be their best. Most of all they do their best to create a community, which is most visible during the Nutcracker performances as we see former dancers continue to enjoy this timeless classic. We are so grateful to have found this community. As an update, he has graduated and will be attending a pre professional training program at the Cleveland ballet.

I have 3 daughters attend for ballet, and I love the studio and the staff! They are awesome people and really create a great community. My oldest got to be in the Nutcracker Christmas ballet, all 3 have had multiple recitals, and we have been in thr 4th of July parade with the dance studio. Based on all these experiences over what will be 3 years now, I highly recommend this place to any parents with kids interested in dance!

My daughter did a preballet class and they were very organized and comprehensive about the content/curriculum covered. She had a blast!
They also really know how to put on the end-of-year recitals! Having a flat fee for dancer participants and no charge open seating for audiences is the best! Furthermore, they did a video recording of the recitals and provided free downloads to students/families. I highly recommended this studio.

My daughter danced at Johansen's Olympia Dance Center from age 3 to 6, followed by 2 years of years of gymnastics and 2 years at a "competitive" dance studio. She's been back at JODC for the past 4+ years and couldn't be happier. The teachers are awesome - they not only teach clean, precise technique, but they also create a positive and supportive environment for students to learn. My daughter has achieved more than she ever thought possible at JODC. As a parent, after spending truckloads of $$ at cheesy dance competitions, I appreciate the quality education, high-caliber performance opportunities and overall value that JODC provides.

My daughter went there for the first time, when she asked a question of the instructor about future dance possibilities she was told she would never dance in any professional capacity no matter how hard she worked or where she trained. I get that you have to be realistic but how about being supportive and encouraging? Left the studio very disappointed in this group.

Johansen Olympia Dance Center is the best dance studio in Olympia. I have tried other studios over the years and none compare to Olympia Dance Center. I just can't recommend it enough! It's been such a positive part of my life for over 20 years. The teachers and studio space are again, the best in town. My sisters and friends have danced here for many years too. The studio is also home to Ballet Northwest, the premier ballet company here in Oly.

My daughter is going on her 8th year at the studio. She has grown as a dancer exponentially yearly. The directors really care for the dancers. There are several disciplines to choose from. The Summer intensive programs they offer are top notch as they have current instructors and bring in guest faculty who have much accreditation. Also the directors are the artistic directors for Ballet Northwest. The Winter and Spring Ballet's offer dancers who audition more opportunities as well. Highly recommend this studio. They have the whole package for all ages. My dancer is very happy.

Johansen Olympia Dance Center has been a second home for my family the past nine years. The directors are supportive of each and every dancer at all skill levels. They are positive and supportive of all dancers whether the commitment is for one year, for a lifetime or even a drop in class. All dancers are stretched and given room to grow and improve their skills. They have spent time, given suggestions and encouraged my daughter to attend a prestigious contemporary summer dance intensive out of state, while all other dancers were interested in ballet intensives. (by the way, she loved it!) We look forward to another wonderful year with Johansen Olympia Dance Center and their professional training and performances!
