We are so glad we found Kinder Swimmer in Spanaway! Megan and Alex are truly amazing mentors. The system they have for teaching kids is excellent, and it really helps the children feel confident in the water. Megan always uses positive, encouraging words and explains things in a way kids really understand. Alex keeps a sharp eye on the pool, is super friendly, and took the time to answer all of our questions thoroughly.
In my 8-year-old son’s words: “Megan is kind, responsible, and helpful.” That says it all!
The pool is large and very clean, with plenty of parking and cute little changing rooms. I would highly recommend Kinder Swimmer to any parent who doesn’t have access to a pool or wants their child to become comfortable and confident in the water.

Kinder Swimmer is wonderful! My son has been taking lessons with Amanda for a few months now. She is incredibly patient and kind, while also making sure each lesson is productive. The environment is quiet, without other lessons/activities happening around the pool, helping my easily distracted child focus on learning. We tried another swimming center closer to our home for lessons, but decided the 45 minute drive to Spanaway is worth it. I feel confident my child will continue to make steady progress towards swimming independently here!

I can’t say enough good things about kinder swim. I brought my 8 yr old son and 10 yr old daughter here with zero swimming lesson experience. Coach Megan worked magic and had them excited about swimming and feeling comfortable in no time. I am so impressed with how quickly they were able to catch on with her instruction and patience. I hands down recommend kinder swim, it is a great facility and we are blessed to have the best instructor 💕

After spending YEARS repeating the same swim levels at city pools and the Y, we finally decided to give Kinder Swimmer a try (and we drive an hour in traffic to get here). While all the staff are great- we especially love Megan and Alex, our favorite duo, and pick and choose our class days/sessions when know Megan is in the pool teaching.
If your kid is stuck in large community group swim lessons without progressing- this is the place to go! Small group instruction with one on one coaching with confident teachers who maintain attention and focus while keeping swim lessons fun and productive. Kinder Swimmer has been a game changer for our kid, who went from hating swim lessons to loving them… and now interested in joining a swim team.

Really wish there were more chairs. I asked this last year and it was never addressed or I got a message saying they would look into it. Nothing. Sitting here now staring at 7 people standing because there’s not enough seating. Sometimes it’s not just mom or dad, but mom, dad, grandma, and grandpa showing up. Just hate seeing people stand the whole time. Get a stack of chairs please!

My daughter loves kinder swimmer, we go twice a week because she loves it so much. She only wants to be in Ms Megan's class. Megan is always friendly, and with a smile on her face. I've seen her teach all levels of students, and shes just great! Her deck hand Alex always greets us when we walk in, she provides excellent customer service when we have questions. She is always super helpful when Megan needs something.

Great place for kids to learn how to swim. They keep it fun enough to keep kids attention with enough sternness to let them know water safety is serious. My neurodivergent kids can be two handfuls and then some. Miss Amanda handles them with the kind of grace a neuro developmental doctor could take notes on........... Highly recommend!

We love Kinder Swimmer!! Our son’s infant class teacher is Miss Joslyn and she is phenomenal. The infant classes they offer are such a great introduction to the water. We started him at 3.5 months old, and at 6 months he’s paddling his arms, kicking his legs and comfortable being on his back. It’s amazing! We also attended 1 class with Miss Amanda and we loved her enthusiasm and fun activities.

We love Kinder swimmer! Both my youngest daughter and my grandson attend and within a couple of weeks they were swimming like naturals. The pool is always clean and Ms Megan the instructor is so patient with every kid I’ve seen her with. We recommend Kinderswimmer to anyone who mentions wanting to put their kid I. Swim lessons.

Not very friendly staff. Brought my 3 yr old to swim and the floating devices they used seemed unsafe and ancient. 2 pieces foam and strap. 4 students per class and one instructor just took each kid one lap around pool and that was that the whole lesson. I enrolled my son into Star rec center instead and cancelled rest of course.

I feel compelled to review this swim school after being on vacation with my 4 year old and swimming every day for a week. Literally every single day my son has had people clap for him after he has swam a full lap across the pool, comment on his comfort with the water and incredible swimming skill, and ask where he is taking lessons.
As parents we couldn’t be more thrilled that we are at the pool with our 4 year old and having fun with him in the water, playing games. While we are watchful and careful and always near him we are not afraid for his safety. In class he learns specific swim strokes and jumps in the pool and practices self rescue. On vacation he will start with a formal swim stroke with good form then stop using his arms and just cruise around with his head down in the water, arms trailing behind him, with his feet kicking like a little motor. He is so comfortable in the water. While he has never been taught to dive down to the bottom of the pool he figured out how to bend his body downwards and use his arms to pull himself to the bottom of the pool to retrieve diving rings and other toys. I can’t tell you how many parents have commented on his swimming skill.
I decided to write this review after reading a review that critiqued the safety practices of Kinderswimmer. Specifically leaving a two year old unattended on the side of the pool.
The pool is the size of a standard home swimming pool, not a lap swimming pool or a high school pool. There are chairs and benches on three sides of the pool. The fourth side is too close to a wall for chairs so they have little foldable stools available for parents to sit on. There is one instructor in the water with up to 4 students in the class. There have been many times my son was the only person in the class and has had a private lesson.
The class format is that the teacher swims across the pool with each student in turn, leaving them on the side of the pool where they ended. They continue this rotation until every child has practiced all the swim strokes at which point the kids all go to the deep end to practice jumping in and self rescue. Babies don’t do this part, they do a different skill with the instructor holding them in the shallow end.
This format of one teacher with four students receiving one-on-one personal attention means that 3 students are left without an instructor by their side at any given time. I have been at this pool enough to know that this is handled safely. The instructor requests that parents move from side to side with babies or children that can’t be left alone. Parents can sit on a chair or stool on each side of the pool and sit with a child who is out of the pool when the instructor isn’t with them. Parents are also welcome to be in the pool with their baby or child who doesn’t have swimming skills. I have seen many parents (sometimes even two parents) be in the pool with their babies/young children playing with them and practicing skills with them while the instructor is with another child.
Older kids who have skills are instructed to hold on to the edge of the pool while the instructor is with another student. If the teacher or lifeguard catches them letting go of the edge they are reminded that they need to hold on. Usually older kids only need one reminder and most parents just move to sit next to their kids if they are having a hard time following instructions that day.
It is also worth noting that kids start off by wearing belts with foam rectangles and swimming back and forth across the shallow end of the pool. This means in between laps they are waiting in the shallow end and have some sort of floatation on their body. As students demonstrate an ability to swim and self rescue the number of foam rectangles are reduced until they aren’t wearing any. Once a student can swim all of the strokes and doesn’t need a belt with foam they can start to swim the long length of the pool and wait their turn in the deep end.
It’s an amazing school, their results speak for their themselves.

We have 2 daughters (ages 3 & 4 years), and they absolutely LOVE their swim lessons with Kyleigh & Zeza at the Spanaway pool!! I think my younger one was actually afraid of the water before we started taking them for lessons back in September. Now they both get SO excited to "go to swimming". I really appreciate how Kyleigh makes their lessons fun but still challenges them to try something more. My girls seemed to click with both Kyleigh & Zeza from day one. Also, my 4 year old has sensory processing disorder and I've seen such a huge improvement in her over these last several months too -- following directions, gross motor movement/ coordination. So glad we found Kinder Swimmer and definitely recommend them for kids lessons.

We have been going to classes here off and on since 2015 and hands down they offer the best swimming instruction around. Our current teacher is Amanda and let me tell you she is nop notch. By far our favorite over all these years. She offers the best approach with both inspiring the students but also pushing them at the same time. She is such an asset to their company.

Ms Hannah at Kinder swimmer in Spanaway has been amazing! Both my girls have developed a love and confidence in the water! The water is always warm and the class sizes are limited to 4 kids. The structure of program is excellent with the goal to teach the fundamentals of a variety of strokes along with safety in and around water. I HIGHLY recommend this program, there’s a reason there is a waitlist - it’s worth the wait!!

This facility has given my children more one on one lessons than anything we have tried in the past. The staff is very friendly and wonderful with children. I was asked about submerging them and I was thrilled because that is the only way they are going to get used to it. My kids no longer whine for goggles when getting near a pool. My two youngest are going to take longer than my oldest and that is ok. Every kid is different and they have a wonderful teaching approach.
They also offer makeup sessions in certain situations, which you hardly find with other extra curricular activities. I would highly recommend to any parent or individual to become confidant and experienced in the water.

It's very small place with only pool and a few dressing rooms. My wife picked this place since they work with kids one on one. However, they have been canceling classes due to limited instructors availability. My kids class got canceled 3 times with in a month and they don't refund your money instead they give you a voucher for another class depending on availability.

My daughter took my 2 year old grandson here for swim lessons and it was a nightmare. The instructor left him alone on the side of the pool at his very first swim lesson ever. The lifeguard was on their cell phone. When she was instructing my grandson she was doing “eyes in water” with irregular counting to dunk him, when he had no idea what to expect or do. He cane up sputtering and she did this multiple times. After complaints they tried one more class and they had the same experience the next time. My grandson was traumatized by this. His parents pulled him out of class and demanded a refund. Now when they try to take him to open swims to teach him themselves he makes sure to say “no eyes in water” as it scared him so much. Not to mention leaving a 2 year old alone on the side of a pool could be fatal! I see there are others who have had similar experiences with this place. Please call and report them to the Pierce County Health Department. I gave my daughter their number to do just that today. I certainly hope something will be done before a child dies or is seriously injured by their negligence.

Major safety issues! Do not take your kids here. At our first swim lesson the instructor took our two year old to the other side of the pool and set him on the side and left him there. We had assumed a parent would be in the water with my son so my husband jumped in and swam over to be with him but the instructor did not voice anything she was planning to just leave him there. We watched her do this with another child as well. The life guard was also on their phone in the side office paying zero attention to the pool. Another huge safety violation! I called and talked to the owner after our first visit. She assured us that was not protocol and she would address these issues with her staff. We decided to give a 2nd chance and asked for a new instructor. We showed up to the class to the same instructor even though she assured me she had placed me in a new class with a different instructor. We were obviously frustrated but continued with the class as at this point my son knew we were swimming and would have been confusing to him had we walked out. The instructor had obviously not been talked to as she did the same thing again with my son and another student in the class of similar age to my son. The life guard was a different one than before but also was sitting at the desk in the side room on their phone not paying attention to the pool. This place is not following water safety guidelines and even after sharing my concerns they made no changes and we saw the same thing happen all over again. We requested a refund and they did refund us. But I am scared for the safety of any children that attended swim lessons here as they obviously did not take my concerns seriously and are not following pool safety guidelines. I recommend you do not sign your child up for swim lessons here.

We have been going here less than 2 months and have had 3 short notice (less than an hour) cancelations due to being short staffed. Each class is 30 minutes long and up to 4 kids to a class, so each kid gets roughly 8 minutes of lesson. Unless of course there's issues with another kids floats which takes the time away from all of the other kids. My daughter actually learned quite a bit in her short time being here. However, the disappointment of her planning her day around swimming lessons, having her suit on for 3 hours before the class to only get in the car and get notified the class is canceled is ridiculous. Decent for learning but the habitual let down isn't worth it.

To Josie...although I respect your opinions and methods of raising your daughter...you shouldn't have her in a swim class if they're not willing to "get her eyes wet." Are you serious? It's a swimming class. You don't take swimming lessons expecting not to get wet.. If your daughter doesn't want to get wet, you should try horseback riding...The method of putting their head under water is very effective...my daughter was scared the first time we went, but it worked and she loves the water. One thing you have to teach your children is sometimes they have to do some things they don't like...that is how they learn not to be back talking, fit throwing spoiled brats who get everything they want. The staff is awesome, management is awesome. Five stars from me! We're having her bday party their and I highly recommend!

*called in advance to ask about style of teaching and was told that they have extensive experience working with kids uncomfortable getting their face in the water; claimed they were experienced in tailoring their instruction to the child's challenges and personality - not true of Kinder Swimmer philosophy.
*our primary swim teacher worked very well with my daughter
*my daughter had a lesson with a different instructor - she told the instructor she didn't want to get her eyes wet and was promised that they would try their best; she stepped off the side of the pool to have this person intentionally let her go under; trust broken; repeat. Daughter doesn't want to try the slide and instructor physically tries to force her, but gives up. Another blow to trust.
*we return to original instructor and supervisor offers to observe; offers constructive suggestions, but then physically forces my daughter down the slide while talking about rebuilding her trust
*over $100 in and we're 2 steps forward and 5 steps back with ground to be made up on my dime and my time.
*called to cancel and got a holier-than-thou lecture from the supervisor - it's my fault; there is no other technique of teaching than their 'aggressive' style (had they been honest on my first call about this, I would have never gone to them)
My daughter has been taught that she is a person who has a voice and that she had a right to have that voice heard. In spite of her age, she has a right to be treated with dignity and respect as all human beings do. She has been taught that if something is uncomfortable for her or her body that she needs use her words. Out of 10+ lessons, she is still upset about the two that were with an aggressive instructor. Her primary concern was that the instructor didn't listen to her (not about her eyes getting in the water).
I will man-handle my child out of harms way if in immediate danger, yet the supervisor condescendingly equated not being a good swimmer to being in immediate danger. Um...no that is not an immediate threat. It is NEVER ok to physically force another human being into doing ANYTHING they don't want to do EVER. If she never learns to be comfortable in the water, then she'll be smart enough to stay away from it. There can't be no ambiguity for our little girls when it comes to having their wishes respected when it comes to their bodies.
My daughter LOVES to play in the water and fortunately, Kinder Swimmer hasn't destroyed that and with proper supervision and floatation devices will be perfectly safe. Hopefully, one day she can feel comfortable in a swimming lesson again and learn to swim.
For me, the condescending, your just an over-reactive parent, response was rude and unacceptable. Apparently Kinder Swimmer has no respect for children or adults that disagree with their archaic methods and they won't be honest about it upfront.
