I’ve been going to this location for a while as it transitioned from 24 Hour Fitness to My Move Fitness, and now LA Fitness. The gym is relatively new under LA Fitness, and I recently signed up for a membership since they just opened here about a year ago or so. The equipment is good, but the billing and communication have been frustrating. After losing my wallet, I tried to pay a small $50 fee, but they don’t accept Apple Pay. I told them I would be back on Thursday to pay, yet they continued harassing me with back-to-back calls for a lousy $50. Staff seemed uncoordinated, the owner was unhelpful, and the atmosphere can be unfriendly, with little support from other members. I just want to work out without all the hassle.

The remodel made the gym look nicer, but it didn’t actually improve the workout experience. The new lift room is extremely hot with no ventilation or AC. It’s a closed space full of squat racks and heavy equipment, it makes no sense to have people lifting in a room with no airflow. It gets uncomfortable really fast, even on cold days.
Another issue is how overcrowded the gym has become. There are tours happening constantly, tons of new people signing up, and nowhere to put them. You can barely find an open machine or treadmill during normal hours. The space doesn’t support the number of members they’re trying to fit in.
And whoever decided the mirror placement clearly doesn’t lift. There are no mirrors in front of the cable stations, where proper form actually matters the most. But there are mirrors right in front of the chest machines, which nobody needs for that. The mirror setup feels completely backwards.
Overall, the remodel looks good, but the functionality and member experience have gone downhill.

I’ve been going to gyms for over 25 years, and the remodel at the LA Fitness in Ballard is hands-down the best I’ve ever seen. Everything is brand new — the weight area, the machines, the updated tile & cabinets in the locker rooms — it truly feels like a completely upgraded facility.
They removed the old basketball court and replaced it with multiple squat racks, multiple booty builder machines, and a huge variety of new equipment. There are now more than triple the number of benches they used to have, and the layout is super clean and easy to move around in.
Honestly, the entire gym feels transformed. If you haven’t checked out the remodel yet, you’re missing out. Absolutely amazing job by this team.

I’ve been going to LA Fitness for a while now and I’m really happy with the experience. The gym is clean, organized, and has all the equipment you could ever need for any type of workout. The staff is friendly and always willing to help if you need assistance or have questions. I like that they have plenty of machines, free weights, and a nice area for stretching and cardio. The classes are also a great bonus there’s always something new to try. The locker rooms are well maintained, and the hours make it easy to fit a workout into my schedule. Overall, it’s a great place to stay motivated and consistent with fitness goals.

I want to start by saying if I could review my trainer separately, I absolutely would. Tanner is communicative about goals and scheduling, responsive, and was very focused on my training goals. Particularly if you are new to being in a gym, I would absolutely recommend him! He would get a 5 star review without a doubt.
Unfortunately, other than that this review is a warning about their training program membership and how much they fit the "money grubbing big company" stereotype. I didn't know what I didn't know when I signed up for training and I want to be sure people know what to expect so they don't lose money like I did. The LA Fitness company is the worst version of the stereotype about how impossible it is to cancel a gym membership! You cannot just purchase training sessions as you go, so you end up having to do a contract. They will tell you that sessions roll over month to month so if you get sick or travel, its fine because you can just make them up the next week. This is absolutely true, but be sure you are keeping track of your sessions because you will end up losing money on unused sessions when you are ready to cancel (which they will remind you to keep you on contract). Speaking of contracts, READ THE CONTRACT and understand cancelation for yourself as no one on staff is going to give you a clear straight answer about the cancelation policy. When you are ready to cancel, be sure you have time to wait around for up to 40 mins to cancel as you cannot make an appointment with the only 2 people on staff that can help you cancel. Also, be forewarned corporate customer service will not help or be flexible should you not be 100% clear on the fine print. They will remind you that it is all in the contract (which you should read and be 100% clear on), despite getting incomplete information from staff when you ask about cancelation. To be clear, I am a grown up who signed a contract so I am not saying they did anything *wrong* by the letter of the law. However, I got a very expensive lesson in how strict this company is and how little they care about anything but your money. I wish someone had told me ahead of time so I could cover my own ass. Sign a contract with them at your own risk, consider yourself warned.

Corporate finally listened to the people to spruce the place up with a brand new remodel, and in a surprising turn of events didn't half ass it. This gym went from a meh, busted up big box gym to an elite training gym. Massive amount of equipment and a huge Oly lifting rig with 10 bays, completely decked out with rogue competition gear. Dedicated plyometrics area with padded turf and all the booty-buster gear you can handle, ladies. No more screws missing off of equipment. No more machines skewed and wobbling. No more bent bars with knurling that's some how slippery. No more bumper plates that are missing rubber chunks. No more "scheduled for maintenance" signs taped to 1/4 of the equipment. Even at typical "busy" hours I didn't have to wait for any piece of equipment. This was a perfect example of a company listening to their customer base and providing to the fullest. I would give more stars if a could. Bravo

When I get to LA Fitness and I see at the front desk Cooper or Kimberly, my day starts different. They always go above and beyond to help you, they make you feel welcome, they are always with a smile and they learn your name. I loved working with Tanner as my personal trainer for over a year. He is great at finding you at your level, build your confidence and strength. I recommend him 100%. Kari and Rachel are the best pilates instructor, each of them bring their uniqueness approach. If you are going to try one class, it should be with one of them. The class is super rich with challenges and mindfulness. I like early morning classes but I follow their schedule because both are worth to go anytime they are working.
My experience with the admin is not good. I left my phone number twice and they never got back to me, they said they canceled a subscription but they didn’t do it. I would give them 3 stars to that team.

I’ve had a great experience at this gym so far. It’s a huge upgrade from my home location at Aurora. The remodel is beautiful, the new equipment is top-notch, and the locker rooms are exceptionally clean and well-designed. I especially love the pool and natural lighting—it creates such a relaxing atmosphere. Replacing the basketball court with an expanded weight area was a smart move, and with a glute room coming soon, this location just keeps getting better. This facility is clearly focused on fitness. I’m in the process of transferring my membership and personal training here because it truly supports my fitness goals.
Heidi is an incredible trainer—she’s knowledgeable, motivating, and truly meets every client at their individual fitness level. It’s easy to see why everyone wants to train with her! She’s consistently encouraging and always makes sure I’m supported during every session.
Troy is an excellent training director who genuinely cares about the member experience. He consistently goes above and beyond to ensure clients feel valued and well taken care of.
Quinn is friendly, approachable, and always willing to help. When I had a question, he went out of his way to provide support and make sure I had what I needed.
Jazzy brings such positive energy to the gym. She’s personable, supportive, and it’s inspiring to see strong, dedicated women like her leading the way at Ballard!

Remodel looks great. All new equipment. Will take a few visits to figure out a new routine. Not sure if I like the Roc-it style machines. Will take a few visits to adjust. Would be nice if there was something to show how the controls on the stationary bikes worked. The gym has been converted to more lifting stations. No more basketball or volleyball. Rowing machines are gone. All new lockers in the locker room. Water pressure still low at the water bottle station.

It was almost perfect before the remodel, but now it’s had a laughable downgrade. The basketball court was removed for (an admittedly nice-looking) free weight room that adds a few more lower body machines and squat/bench cages. This is stuff they could’ve just fit elsewhere. Now people in the Ballard area have to find somewhere else to hoop at, which is becoming increasingly impossible in the Seattle area.
Also, ALL of the Life Fitness and Hammer Strength branded machines have been replaced by either Matrix brand equipment or - much, much worse - HOIST. Hoist is universally known as the worst brand of equipment in the gym community because your whole base moves throughout the exercise to the point that it feels like you’re at a playground instead of working out. Not to mention the weight stacks are puny, plus the resistance profiles are inverted from how they should be (the same can be said for the new Matrix equipment). The Life Fitness/ Hammer Strength machines were far superior, albeit a bit old. They did add some cool new machines and loads more dumbbells, but some of the things they tossed didn’t even get a replacement.
None of this is the staff’s fault though, which is why I’m still rating the gym 3 stars. Corporate is to blame, and it’s just a shame that they’re going in this direction.

This gym was great until the recent remodeling. I understand the remodel was necessary and it looks great with all the new equipment! BUT, at the expense of removing the entire basketball gym?! That's just a poor decision I'm sorry. Even worse they didn't post signage that the basketball court was being demolished, instead it was a shock surprise. For that decision I can't give this more than 1 star.

Oct 2025 update: Basketball gym has been removed or converted into some other cardio space during a recent remodel. This is sad, as I had great memories playing ball here and found it a way to build friendships with others. There wasn't much reasoning provided about why they eliminated the gym. I changed my 5 star review to 1 star for poor facility decisions. The remodel took away about the only feature I loved, without clear reasons, and made bball players feel discarded. If you're not into basketball, the facility is pretty good otherwise. BTW, I found it easy to cancel my membership, surprisingly. Just told the facility mgr at the front desk and in under a minute, it was canceled. Switching to Seattle Athletic Club instead.

Previous review:
My review strictly focuses on the basketball scene here, which is great for an older player like me (I'm 46). Every day at lunchtime (e.g., 11:45am to 2:00pm), you can find the basketball court full of adults playing 5x5 games. So if you're looking for a place to hoop at lunchtime, this is it. (There are also early morning games at 6am with a slightly older crowd, and a late afternoon game scene at around 4:30pm, but I only play during lunchtime.) The average age of players is probably 25-50 years old (almost no high school kids). Skill level is typical of these gyms, with some great players and some less-great players (rarely any dunking). Games are played to 21 points, with scoring using 2's and 3's (rather than 1's and 2's, which would inappropriately weight the game for distance shooting).
"Next game" is based on order of waiting (e.g., who's been waiting the longest). In other words, the guy who has the next game can't hand-pick the other 4 players he wants (as sometimes happens with streetball courts). On the days I've played, there are typically 1-2 teams waiting for next game. The winning team stays on the court. On-court attitudes are mostly sportsmanlike, without much chippiness (arguing). Games don't stop while people argue about the score. Not everyone knows each other by name, though. Just the regulars know each other's names.
The only problem with this court is that it's a junior-sized court (same with all basketball courts at LA Fitness facilities), so you're not running as much, and there's almost no ability to play a post-up game because the court is so compressed -- too many bodies clog the middle. As a result, the game becomes more of a shooter's game. But this compressed size isn't as bad as it sounds. I think it results in fewer injuries (maybe a debatable point), and the games get over a bit faster. I still end up tired and sore after 3-4 games.
Also, finding the facility is challenging the first time. It's the 5th story up in a larger building within a shopping square (kind of above Ross for Less or something). I ride my bicycle here. If you bike, park in the LA Fitness ground-floor lobby (which has bike indoor bike racks) just west of the UPS Store along NW 46th St here: 47.66228640869702, -122.37546139566255. Then take the elevator up to the 5th floor. You can easily get to this lobby location from the Burke-Gilman trail. Cross at the crosswalk on NW 46th St and 15th Ave NW (47.66217628278471, -122.37591710912127), as this is safer than crossing at the busier NW 46th St and 14th Ave NW intersection because cars don't seem to stop for bikes there.
As with most gyms, be sure to bring your own ball. There are plenty of basketballs if you need one, but they're lopsided, flat, frayed, etc., so won't be as nice as the one you bring.

As a long-time LA Fitness member who’s visited numerous locations all across the country over the years, I can confidently say the Ballard Signature Club has set a new standard following its recent remodel.
The renovations are absolutely top tier. The brand new equipment is state-of-the-art and there’s plenty of it - no more waiting around during peak hours. The layout redesign is incredibly thoughtful and efficient, making workouts flow naturally from one area to the next. Everything feels modern, spacious, and meticulously maintained.
What truly elevates this location beyond the fantastic facility is the exceptional staff. Jazmin and the team are phenomenal - they genuinely care about the member experience. They actively welcome feedback and are constantly looking for ways to enhance the gym. It’s refreshing to see management that’s so engaged and committed to improvement.
Highly recommend joining if you’re in the area. You won’t be disappointed!

Reasons for low rating:
1. The gym itself, pre-renovations, would be rated 2 or 3/5. It has the basics, there are often machines out of order, the cycle studio bikes are very outdated, cleanliness is 3/5.
2. There are a few staff who are very kind and helpful. There are others who are rude and unhelpful. When they announced the closure, I asked two women at the front desk about a refund. They didn’t know what I was talking about or how to help. Another woman was extremely rude when I was in the pool swimming and couldn’t hear an announcement on the intercom. They are relentless about selling the reformer pilates membership. The whole vibe is more sales-y and the community feel that I hope for in a gym is lacking. Staff is 3/5.
3. How they handled renovations - 0/5. Posters announced the closure month of, they sent out an app message a week before, and now have extended the closure 3 more days. That is a THREE WEEK CLOSURE with no refund.
4. After now being forced to go to other farther locations, I have no idea why Ballard is considered a signature gym.
Pros:
* Parking on site
* Pool has a lot of natural light
* Big gym with lots of cardio equipment
* Spa/Sauna

I’ve been going here since this summer and also signed up for a Pilates membership as well. For “signature club”, it’s really nothing special and a pricing scam. Machines are always broken, and the place is kinda dirty imo. I’ve only been going here 1) for the affordable Pilates classes and 2)based on proximity and convenience on location & parking. TODAY (9/8), I received a notice that the Ballard location will be temporarily closed from 9/16-10/3 due to construction
. This communication was sent out with only a week's notice and no prior heads-up, which is extremely disappointing and disruptive. When I visited the club in person to get more information, the front desk staff were very friendly but super unhelpful. They simply directed me to other Seattle locations (Roosevelt and Aurora Ave N), which are not Signature Clubs, and are significantly less convenient due to traffic and distance. And my Pilates membership is only valid at my home location, making it unusable during the closure. If I had wanted to attend other locations, I would have signed up there in the first place. To make matters worse, I was told that members whose billing date had not yet passed could receive a refund for the month. But my billing date was yesterday, just one day prior to receiving the closure notification, and I was told I am not eligible for any refund or alternative accommodation and that i should reach out to Corporate directly with complaints. Honestly, if you’re thinking about signing up, just go ahead and take your money elsewhere. There’s way better and cleaner gyms for way less $.

An okay gym. Nothing special. It’s for the masses. My concerns are that some equipment, such as the decline bench, have been out of order for three or more months. It’s a decline bench, not a rocket. The parts must be so rare that they’re hand crafted by children in China *sarcasm*. The television system was down on the cardio equipment as of Saturday, again. The staff is uninformed as to when it will be repaired. The management team should put out daily updates to the staff and customers as to the repair status of the equipment. It would show they take their job seriously.

Today over 12 pieces of equipment are scheduled for service. Last time I was in it was 14. I have pointed out broken equipment weeks ago, and it still hasn’t been replaced/repaired . Exercise bikes have the nose broken off the saddle which makes riding uncomfortable. Bicep curls machine has a loose bolt, which results in audible clunking. I showed this to staff. Two weeks later still not fixed. I hand tighten it which resolves the issue. Imagine what actual maintenance might do. Leg press has been scheduled for service for months. LA Fitness in North Seattle is much nicer. When these issues are pointed out to staff nothing actually happens to resolve the issue. Only things that keep me coming is that my insurance pays for membership and it’s convenient. But if I’m ever by another LAF, that’s where I go for the workout. Easily the worst of the 6 I’ve been to in the Seattle-Tacoma area.

All the machines rusty and broken
… paid$10 fee to try gym just for everything to be broken…… make it make sense. Anyone giving 5 starts is lying because literally every machine has out of maintenance sign on it and the Cardio machines the same ones that were out of order the last time I came and worked out here a couple years ago which is crazy. The regular LA fitness I go to on Aurora Avenue is actually nicer than this shit which is pretty sad Considering they want so much more to work out at this gym. Get it together, Ballard. You guys charge people a $50 fee every year to upkeep with the maintenance of your machine machines and it doesn’t seem like you guys spent any of that money doing that not only any….every machine is rusted because during Covid you had everybody spray sanitizer all over the machines and road them Now everything needs replaced and it’s not getting done. At least put some WD-40 If I can hear the machine squeaking through my headphones or something wrong with that

Crowded, rundown, and predatory!
To start, the gym itself is not designed to accommodate demand; there’s an empty kids club, a racketball court that’s never used, a Pilates studio that’s never busy, studios for classes that are subpar, an entire private 3rd-party physical therapy facility, and random equipment that no one uses. Meanwhile forget getting time on a stairstepper, or cables, or on a bench. And forget about room to stretch or do floor exercises.
Secondly, the equipment is garbage. It has not been maintained well nor replaced when needed. My last visit, 50% of the stairsteppers were broken. A leg press machine has been broken for 6 months. Pads are cracked, machines are missing pins, everything squeaks, and I honestly question the safety of some of the machinery. Not to mention the cleanliness; there’s one lovely woman who is always working hard cleaning machines but she’s just one person and the sanitizing wipes are stationed so far apart that most are just too lazy to wipe their machines down after use.
Finally, their entire personal training sales pitch is the biggest predatory practice ever. Obviously I fell for it and I accept the consequences but I hope others see this and learn from my mistakes. I was given so much attention in my initial 1 hour session. I was promised that I would could not only just the training sessions but training plans. That I would get nutrition coaching, and monthly check-in’s with the fitness manager, and I was led to believe I was receiving hour long sessions only to receive my contract for 25 minute sessions. I have received none of this in the 6 months I’ve been under contract. Additionally, my very first trainer was nothing more than a very expensive workout partner as I’d arrive and she would have nothing prepared and I’d spend more time reminder her what my fitness goals were. She then quit with little notice and I scheduled with other trainers twice and they never showed. The front desk staff were clueless and unhelpful. I had to jump through hoops and talk to 5 different people to identify a new trainer who would actually show up, meanwhile excuses were made for the 2 weeks of training I missed due to incompetence. The only grace I will give is the new trainer I met with, Michelle, was AMAZING! Truly, I loved working out with her. She brought so much variety to our workouts; and mixed things up so I could progress will also not getting bored. I am so upset and disappointed, but mot surprised in the least for all the reasons above, that Michelle has now moved on from LA Fitness. I only wish I could too. I cannot wait for my contract to end. I simply hope that I can enjoy my next trainer; Michelle recommended him and I’ve seen him around so I think we’ll get on.

This gym is awesome and I feel like its improved my quality of life exponentially. It's in an awesome building, with awesome views and all the equipment is great. The staff is always incredibly nice as well. And - I just can't believe how cheap it is compared to the rock climbing gym I was going to before. Solid overall.Went there today for first time because my usual la fitness on roosevelt was closed due to a power failure.
Well, I was very pleasantly surprised on entering the club after struggling to figure out how to get from level 3 on the parking garage to the club.
Much much bigger than the one on roosevelt and a lovely pool area with west facing windows providing a light airy feeling as you soak in the hotpool or swim laps. A plus is the shower adjacent to the whirlpool so if you get heated take a cool shower. The chaise lounges add to the great space and encourage members to lounge a bit.
Locker rooms are excellent though a hair or hand dryer would be a plus. But, there are plugs so bring your own. Sauna in the locker room was good..not too hot.
The workout areas are nice and spread out. No ramping here. Some of the machines were unfamiliar but all seemed working. The aerobic machines also seemed to be in great shape. The elliptical is my go to and I had no complaints. 30 minutes and you have a great aerobic workout.
I don't know about classes as none were going on while I was there but the rooms seemed in great shape. The only minus was the non-functional watet bottle filling machine. I moticrd yhid at Toosrvrlt toi.
There's also a cafe tho I didn't try it, that's a plus.
5 stars and trust me if you look at my reviews, I rarely do this. Truly, I would give 4.5 bcz of hair dryer and elevator confusion but no biggie.
The person who reviewed and said there were much better clubs is wrong. Erin Kelley I challenge you to come up with a "much nicer" club anywhere. Better sure but not much nicer.

I’ve had a great experience at the LA Fitness in Ballard! The gym is always clean, the equipment is well-maintained, and the environment is welcoming. Big shoutout to Elizabeth and Yari at the front desk — they’re always so friendly, helpful, and make checking in a breeze. Their positive energy really sets the tone for a great workout. I had been going to this LA Fitness for a while now and recently returned after a brief hiatus. I am very pleased at how easily I was able to sign back up and resume activities at this Signature Club. From the maintenance staff to the trainers and the membership advisors to the managers, I am always treated with respect. My needs are met using the facilities and there is more than enough equipment to get my workouts done. This is a great location.

Good stuff but I feel bad for the people playing for “signature”… takes many months for anything to get repaired. Currently there is at least 7 machines out of service. Although this is the only location where the people at the front are not useless.

I've had a membership for a bit over 2 months, the glute extension machine went down shortly after I started and has yet to be repaired. There are many machines that are permanently "scheduled for service - temporary unavailable" or falling apart without being taken out of service (or better yet, repaired). It's getting pretty comical now many things in paying not to use. There's a set of day use lockers for valuables that have been out of service for 3 weeks
Good amount of squat racks, only one deadlift platform with too few bumper plates. Useable as a gym, but can be tough to get what you need on a busy day
Club seems to be spending money on a new pilates program people can attend for an additional fee. Seems a funny thing to spend money on when some of the basics aren't being maintained

Hot tub has been broken for over a month. Each time I go they say it will be fixed by the end of the week (which hasn’t happened yet.) dont understand why we’re paying signature club prices if most of the amenities don’t work? Even the towel service is usually not available because all the towels have been handed out. Most of the staff is super rude, and place is a mess majority of the time.
Sucks because it’s such a great location, would be an awesome if a gym that actual cared about their clientele moved into the space.
*currently trying to call club and phones been ringing for over 3 minutes…
Updated: what’s the deal with the sassy attitude with towel service here!? I just asked for a towel and even said please. The girl at the counter roller her eyes at me and slammed down here mouse on her computer and then handed me two unfolded towels and didn’t say a word for me. It’s crazy cuz I work in customer service at a busy restaurant where I have to deal with way more demanding requests and can’t imagine how asking for towels could warrant such an awful reaction. It sucks too because I pay extra for the towel service and the way some of employees make you feel is as if you’re asking the world of them to turn around and hand you 2 towels.

I guess you get what you pay for.
I will give a shout out to the staff - as they are friendly, greet you when you arrive and always say goodbye and wish you a great day. This is the only reason for the 2 stars.
Now on to the negatives:
So many machines are broken!! Many of the weight machines have “service” notices on them - which have been there for months. And more join the “needs service” every week. Just today, both hamstring machines were broken.
The treadmills and stairmasters have multiple broken machines with no signs. So you try one, and then another and another until you finally find one that works. Terrible. The anti-viral wipes are many times out of stock as well.
And then to the worst part - people sit on the machines on their phones watching tik tok for several minutes between sets - hoarding machines that are in demand for over 15 mins. Or they put their stuff on the machines and work two machines WHILE others are waiting. It’s ridiculous and so rude. But the gym does nothing - and there are no signs reminding people to have a little courtesy.

I had a training session with the Kirill who is the Fitness Director at LA Fitness today. It was incredible. I "blew out" my quad completely 8 months ago. After surgery and PT I thought I could just jump right back on the weights and strength would cure me. Wrong!
I've had on-going motion issues due to this catastrophic quad injury which has impacted my gait and functionality. My six months of PT following the surgery was definitely not enough and I still have swelling in the area. I would have ignored it and blasted back to my regular workouts but Kirill evaluated my functional movement and it's clear that my way was not going to work. I've signed up for functional mobility training so that I don't get injured and/or limit my full recovery with my impatience. I'm now confident that I'll be back on the mountain skiing and hiking full-tilt again. Thanks so much Kirill. Your knowledge and training skills are amazing.

Zero stars. I signed up for the reformer pilates membership, was never sent a contract or any information on the studio opening. I kept checking the app to see when classes were available and they became available the beginning of March. Almost all of the classes were immediately full. I called to cancel my membership and was told that you can only cancel by coming IN PERSON from 9 to 5 Monday through Friday. So you can only cancel during the hours that most people are working. I now have to take time off to come in and cancel something that I never even signed a contract for. The gym is also dirty, women's locker room ceiling is leaking often, and lots of cardio equipment is broken. There are way better options in Ballard.

Update 03/03/2025
“READ FIRST”
LA Fitness currently lacks essential safety measures, creating an environment that could put your personal security at risk. If you plan on using the locker room, make sure to bring your own lock, as the facility does little to protect your belongings. As for the shower stalls, be aware that the gym allows individuals who have little regard for personal privacy, making these areas particularly uncomfortable and unsafe.
Even if you report an incident where someone invades your privacy, don’t expect much action from the staff. The front desk will likely dismiss your concerns, informing you that management is unavailable. If you try to escalate the issue by requesting a contact for follow-up, you’ll likely be met with vague responses like, “Sorry, I don’t have that information handy.”
Contacting corporate doesn’t guarantee a resolution either. While they may pass your concerns along to local management, the only response you might receive is a delayed call where they ask generic questions, seemingly just to document that they “followed up.” This pattern gives the impression that complaints are not taken seriously and that customer safety is an afterthought.
Aside from safety concerns, the facility itself is in decline. Many treadmills display “Currently Out of Service” signs, and it’s apparent that regular maintenance has been neglected. Rather than investing in repairs or keeping useful amenities like racquetball courts, the gym repurposes spaces for revenue-driven programs like Pilates—while an unused kids’ playroom sits empty since COVID.
Overall, LA Fitness appears more focused on upselling services than maintaining a safe and functional workout environment. If you choose to visit, be prepared to take extra precautions for your own safety, as management seems unwilling to do so for you.

IMO, 3.5 overall. I have an LA Fitness membership I use for travel (having locations where I travel frequently). First time trying out a "Signature" Club. I can't say I saw a whole lot of "Signature" about it, especially considering there are standard clubs around the nation I think are much nicer.
👉 Locker Rooms, pretty standard and clean enough.
👉 Sauna, it was nice, modern (but most clubs have these as well).
👍 Pool area, I will give them this, for an urban pool, it was pretty solid as well as the spa.
👉 Machines and weight lifting equipment; lots of it but some of it is worn out (e.g. rusted).
👍Tons of cardio machines and not as dated as some of the other equipment.
👍 The Pilates room looks cool, but I know that is an extra cost.
👍Basketball & racquetball court.
👍 Large cycle and multi-use room.
👍 Friendly staff at the front desk
👎 Towel service but they have security trackers in them, apparently people must steal used gym towels which I find quite sad for a "Signature" club membership. I don't quite get it.

I've been going to this gym for a year and a half and just cancelled my membership. The gym overall is a nice big space, but has many shortcomings and what ultimately caused me to cancel was a very rude and unpleasant general manager. The gym oversells memberships to the point where even though I go at non peak hours, there are rarely open free weight benches/squat racks ect. If your thing is cardio it might be ok for you. They recently cut down from 2 racquetball courts to one. The pool only has 3 lanes with two swimmers in each so it's always at least a 10 minute wait to get in the pool and many times they rent out a lane to a children's swim class which makes the problem worse. Hot tub is hit or miss on if it's clean or so cloudy I don't want to risk legionella. Lastly I had a bike stolen from downstairs about 6 months ago and since then I have been bringing my bike upstairs and putting it out of the way. This week the desk woman was immediately hostile and demanding I take the bike down stairs. As I explained why I brought it up stairs she became increasingly rude so I asked to speak to the manager. She is the manager, so i asked to speak with her supervisor. I talked to Carlos on the phone who was pleasant enough and said to leave my bike for the day, but in the future could not bring it upstairs. Not what I was hoping to hear but at least he wasn't unprofessional. I can't go to a place managed by someone so rude to me, so I cancelled.

While the Ballard location might seem convenient, it's a sinking ship.
Facility Issues: Machines are frequently broken, treadmills out of service, and corporate neglects maintenance. Bathrooms are rarely stocked with soap or paper towels, and towel service costs extra. Water fountains frequently broken + out of service
Parking & Security: Limited parking, plus homeless people wander freely via ground-level stairwells.
Billing Scam: Canceling is a nightmare. I canceled in-person, got confirmation, and still got charged months later.
Even at half the price, I wouldn’t recommend this place. Find a gym that actually values its members.

Worst customer experience. People who work there don’t know the membership rules themselves. My boyfriend had given me the VIP pass which can be renewed every 6 months which is clearly mentioned in the pass rules. Made me and my boyfriend wait for an hour on a workday to just send us out saying I have to wait for 18 months before renewing it again. Such scam and misinformation. I had called them again to ask them check, had put me on hold for 1 hour and never responded.

I've been going to this gym for the last 6 months, however today they told me that my membership is not eligible at this location. When I asked why that is and I've been going to this location for a while, the front desk said that they weren't really enforcing it back then? Unacceptable and what a curveball from this location. They asked if I wanted to pay they extra $10 for the day or upgrade my entire membership. I decided to leave and drive to the Bellevue location instead despite it taking 1 hour to get there. This gym does not deserve the "signature" status. The amenities at the weights are lacking compared to the Bellevue location such as multiple platforms. I guess a towel is nice every so often but that's all. Will probably not come back here in the future.

If you can afford it, go to another gym. They charge an additional $10/month to use their towels, and they don't care at all about guest safety. I spilled my water bottle and told the front desk attendants. Two of them were sitting there, and neither could he bothered to get up and even check or put up a sign. Since I don't pay for towel service I couldn't even get a towel to mop up the spill they didn't care about. They just said they would "let the Janitorial staff know." 5 minutes later no one has drove anything! Another guest eventually noticed and wiped up most of the spill with their towel. I went back up to the desk to ask them to please to do something. They just asked where the spill was. I told them I could show them if they just followed me. Still nothing. Finally I went back a third time to let them know. At this point I was pissed. They called over some manager or something and I told him that this was outrageous and someone had mopped it up. He said "yeah, but we mopped it up." I had to explain that no, this was a guest not staff that had cleaned it up so no one slipped. He just said "yeah, but no one did," which feels like a cavalier response to a potential injury as a result of their negligence. Then he told me that well there is a Janitor who is cleaning it up now, so sorry because he called him 15 minutes ago. So now just add throwing the Janitor under the bus when any one of three staff members could have come and remedied the situation without me repeatedly having to come up and get more and more upset at them. Truly irresponsible. If there were a spill at my place of work and my attitude were to leave it for someone else potentially risking clients' safety it would not be acceptable.

As a swimmer wanting to swim in the evening after work, it is actually quite tough to get a lane: Tuesdays and Thursdays there is aqua sport from 6-7 pm. Then there are swimming lessons on Wed from 4.30 to 7.30 pm and 3-4 hours on both Sat and Sunday (taking up 1/3 of the pool). I am honestly thinking of cancelling my membership. I will say that the pool is actually quite nice. One thing that really bugs me is the aweful music blaring at you in the locker-it is loud and in your face. I have asked staff to turn down the music and was told they can not do it (which I find very hard to believe).

Women’s locker room sauna- no sanitation or privacy implemented so people are going in the hot sauna with their cell phones, outside sneakers 🤢, full workout clothing with no towels. Management allegedly cannot do anything about it because all other LA Fitnesses do not have such measures implemented either.

ORIGINAL: Love the staff and facility. Pool has been busy but doable. Jacuzzi is my fav. I use the cable weights and free weights too. Kirill, the trainer, canceled on me twice so I’m going it on my own, but I’ve prepaid for 2 months and make the most of it. I like the locker room and shower too.

Came here on vacation to buy a day pass, really fast response time. Clean gym, towel service, and friendly staff. I will be back!

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We were out of town visiting and they give us a free guest pass to workout in the gym for a day. Also the environment was very clean and easy to navigate.

This club has the best Jacuzzi of any club around. Other than that, greater attention is needed at keeping paper l towel dispensers stocked, as well as the shower stall containers. The men's locker is hot & humid all year round. Too many members fail to shower before entering the spa & the pool. The juice bar stand is a bit pricey but the drinks are excellently prepared. There is plenty of exercise equipment that is well maintained. A large television is located in a seating area near the Front Desk, usually showing sports.

They don’t take guest passes? I’ve used them at signature clubs before, but I guess they want to hit sales targets. Equipment is dilapidated, rusty, and poor selections. 1 single squat rack.

The free trial pass does not apply at this location! Got the free trial pass through the LA Fitness Ballard website. Was eager to check out the club, until I got to the front desk and interacted with an individual named Hector. He explained to me that because it’s a Signature Club, free trial passes do not work there. When I questioned him as to why, he gave a circular answer talking about how change doesn’t happen often there and it’s political. Very odd interaction. Ended up getting a membership at another gym down the road that treated me more respectfully.

By far and away the best LA Fitness in greater Seattle. Clean and friendly thanks to manager Kyle. I am always welcomed when I arrive and wished a great day when I leave. Great vibe thanks to him.

(FRAUD ALERT) I was called randomly out of the blue by one of your associate (Hunter C.) about a contract to replace my current membership. I verbally agreed over the phone. The associate fraudulently signed the contract on my behalf. I only discovered this when my previous account had towel service which was “forgotten” in the new membership. Now they expect me to pay an additional $120. This isn’t bad but I do not appreciate the dishonesty and unprofessionalism from management. The local staffs were not at all helpful. I will dispute this with my credit card company.

I have been a member for 10 years and I love this gym. However, as of the last 2 years it has gone way down hill. There is at least 6 machines at all times "scheduled for service." The trainers are wearing birkenstock sandals or crocs. Who wears sandals to work especially as a gym employee. SMH...
