Overall good gym has all the equipment you need. Only downsides are no pool/hot tub and it can get pretty crowded during rush hour.

I highly recommend MAC as a conventional gym. It has all the equipment you need for strength training and even CrossFit (c2 bike, rower, skier, assault bike, GHD, etc.). Staff are simply amazing - everyone is extremely helpful and friendly and they work very hard to keep this facility clean & organized. I had to cancel my membership recently due to work schedule not lining up with their hours, and the cancellation process was the easiest I’ve ever experienced (one email, instant response & cancellation confirmation, no additional charge as committed, etc.). I really hope the gym could open just 1-2 hours longer at night, at least during summer time…

Overall nice gym that offers most of the weight lifting equipment I like to use and also many types of classes. I do appreciate that it is less crowded and bit cleaner than other gyms I have been to.

The main issue I have had though which may cause me to switch gyms at some point is that the hours are limiting: 9pm on weekdays and 7pm on weekends. I have to work late sometimes and this makes it impossible to go sometimes, or I am forced to try to go without having dinner, or go immediately after dinner without time to digest. Also if anyone works weekends like I have, 7pm is too early to make it consistently. During the summer, it especially feels early given that the gym closes when the sun is still bright out. They do open early (5am), but for someone who likes to exercise in the afternoon or evenings, that isn’t of much benefit. If the closing time was even just 1 hour later, that would make a huge difference.

Joined about a year ago. Facility is nice overall. The classes/instructors are fun! We mostly workout in the free weights section downstairs. In general, we’ve noticed that other members aren’t always considerate. There are signs everywhere saying to not be on your phone on the gym floor and yet there are always people yapping on their phone! There’s also always bros slamming weights down, which isn’t necessarily a rule but it’s just annoying and ridiculous. Sometimes there are people who are on a machine for 15 plus minutes scrolling on their phones, also kind of annoying.

If you enjoy listening to people talk on their phones while you work out this is the place for you- yeah they have a policy against it but no one pays any attention to it and when I asked a staff member to at least stick a couple no phone calls signs in the cardio area he declined to do so

His gym is spacious and ideally located by the water. Parking is plentiful, the equipment is great and it is never so crowded that you feel stifled or pressured to work out faster. The staff is attentive and responsive. The bathrooms are very clean including showers. I do not attend the regular classes but they look well run and attended. I wish there was a steam room and sauna!

I've been coming to MAC since 2018 and I love it, my favorite gym to-date. Staff are friendly and engaging, the gym itself is spacious and pretty clean, lots of squat racks and cardio machines that overlook Lake Washington. If they closed at 10 PM on weekdays and at the earliest 9 PM on weekends I'd give them 5 stars.

Update 07/30/24:
MAC is still great, but there are only 2 adjustable benches for the whole weight room. It would be great if they could switch out the flat benches for adjustable ones, or get like 2 more adjustable benches.

Felt compelled to share my experience with this gym. I’m staying about 5 minutes away from the gym at Ronald McDonald House while my son receives treatment. I’m really happy I signed up at this gym during my stay here. It’s provided me an opportunity to get out and clear my head each day as we go through this. Email communication was prompt and comprehensive when I initially looked into signing up. The first day I dropped in, I was warmly welcomed and the process to get signed up was very easy. Can’t remember the fellows name who helped me out but he was very nice to deal with. Since signing up the gym has been great to workout at. Everything is clean, the other members are pleasant to be around and the variety of gym equipment is perfect. I’ll be moving back home tomorrow and wish I could bring the gym with me. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this gym to anyone in the area who might be interested. Thanks again for accommodating me. Jeff Turner.

If you're living in the Sandpoint/Windemere area there aren't a lot of gym options, but luckily the MAC is here and almost perfect. Love the large selection of weight lifting equipment, free classes, towel service, great staff, amazing views from the second level, free parking, and rarely crowded. For everything it offers the annual membership price is more than fair, and I plan to continue being a member for many years. My ONLY complaint is the hours....they close at 9pm on weekdays and 7pm on weekends, that's simply too early, IMO 10pm should be the earliest a gym closes.

I just left the club after trying it out for the first day of a three day trial before commiting and I have to say I was completely awestruck at the facility. When searching online for an athletic club that has the single amenity of a sauna that I need as a dancer, yogi and strength conditioner I did realize through pictures that the MAC is as great as it is. I definitely look forward to seeing business on a weekday when I visit tomorrow after work. Also to mention it's right on lake Washington which adds to the grandeur and adds a super cathartic feeling when exiting after a good work out. Well deserved 5 stars for all of the above in addition to being family owned and operated! Thanks MAC! can't wait to be back!

Luv this place. Clean facilities and nice staff. Mostly young teens and adults. Lots of activities for toddlers to 12yrs. The inflatable fun zone is fun for the kiddos. Snacks and beverages are available including beer for the parents. Sections for birthday parties. Magnuson location has a large campus with other activities we primarily use the fun zone.

Roomy, wide open, and plenty of machines/weights/programs available. The staff is friendly, quick to answer questions. Much cleaner than most other gyms I’ve used (I seem to run into Marissa? who’s always busy cleaning. I think that’s her name). I do wish they’d maintain/calibrate the rowing machines a little more. There’s only one that’s my favorite with a β€œdrag factor” I’m used to. Perhaps it’s time to invest in some new ones. Maybe not a lot of interest in rowing though so I can understand. Overall a great place to workout, even views of Lake Washington upstairs on the ellipticals. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

This gym retaliates against you when you ask about their racist policies. They originally closed the basketball court due to covid but when they didn't open it back up I inquired into that and they said they make more money off having classes in the gym instead of basketball on the court. But the classes are free so essentially they are saying that they would rather attract rich white women in their gym then the black community in the near by low income housing.

Background: I've been a client for four years. Previously I attended multiple CrossFit gyms. I am an early morning workout person.

Pros:

- As stated in other reviews, the staff do not bother you with offers, etc. They are very friendly and are great with both problems and inquires. All my interactions with staff have been excellent.

- They have just about every piece of workout equipment you could possibly imagine. They do not have what I would consider super-duper specialized stuff (i.e. a reverse hyper machine), but you have a lot of options to do just about every type of workout you could come up with. For lifting, they have two lifting platforms and real bumper plates, allowing you to both do Olympic lifting and deadlifts, which I love. They also have two pull-up rigs, and plenty of cardio machines of all types lining both floors.

- All group classes are included in the membership price. You do not pay extra. I started taking yoga because of this and it has changed my life regarding lower back pain. You do have to pay extra for personal training and small group classes.

- They have corporate rates if you work at certain large companies in town.

- They have showers and a sauna in both locker rooms. The showers are fantastic "waterfall" style shower heads. Really great.

- The entire facility is kept clean and most broken equipment is fixed promptly.

Cons: (mostly nit picky/personal preference stuff)

- The layout on the main floor has a couple rows of your standard, one-movement cable Nautilus type machines. I'm not against these machines, only where they are located. Surrounding them are pullup rigs and other open floor space. The biggest issue is that many folks want to do their own mini-workouts in the open spaces and many times you end up getting in the way of someone else. If these machines were moved somewhere else and that space was opened up, it would be a big improvement to the place.

Before COVID, there was talk of the facility getting rid of the basketball court, which is currently only used for a large group workout room and adding a floor on top of it. I don't know if this will happen, but opening the place up for small personal workouts would be a big improvement.

- This is a pet peeve of mine, but I do not like TVs in gyms. They are very distracting, especially when the channels are on infomercials. I understand that many want to watch something when on a cardio machine, but those machines seem to be equipped with their own televisions, so what's the point? Aren't we supposed to be concentrating on our workouts? I would remove them, but I'm sure someone would disagree.

Overall, I do love this gym and would not think of moving to another anytime soon. Well worth the price and I would still be a client w/o my corporate rate.

I got an unexpected charge besides my monthly payment recently, when I called in to ask what this is about, the lady answering the phone told me that it is the maintenance fee they charge every year for the first two member of a family. I told her that nobody told me this when I first sign up (there is initiation fee, annual fee, and monthly fee, but not maintenance fee), she said:"No, it's on the contract, you signed it", I was like"well, if you didn't clearly told me, you are expecting me read every line of contract in two minutes on your computer screen?" It is actually NOT about the money--it is the way that they try to hide makes me feel uncomfortable, makes me feel I can't trust them with my credit card..... I understand that the lady signed me up might forgot to mention this to me at the beginning, it is okay if this was the case. However, the lady answered my phone insists that I was notified when I sign up---why would I even call to ask if I know about this charge? My phone was abruptly cut off....
Anyway, horrible customer service!
I gave two star only because my instructor of the class I take is great.

I go to this gym because I live nearby, and I'm grateful for it because before they opened, the closest semi-decent gym was at Greenlake. MAC is a spacious, high-ceilinged two-level gym, a pleasant space; it never feels crowded, you never have to wait for equipment. And they offer a good selection of yoga and fitness classes. My one complaint about the space: it would be nice if they had a larger dedicated area for stretching and floor work. A small irritation: their web site doesn't post holiday hours. Should be easy enough to do, and no one wants to bug the staff by calling.

They're the only game (gym) in town so they don't have to try too hard. Not a great sense of "community" or friendly vibe with some exceptions.

Cons: There are a few staff members and trainers who are awesome! Other staff... not so great. It's a miracle if you walk in and are greeted by someone at the front desk, much less a smile. Some of the members are pretty rude, inconsiderate and uptight (avoid eye contact, don't clean their equipment or out away weights, spacial unawareness, etc). I just never was digging the environment and the leadership from the top down seems to be lacking - with some exceptions.
Very inconsistent front desk service e.g. one young woman who works in the morning states to me that they will no longer let members leave their car keys up front to be stored in the desk. As I’m leaving my workout I see a member picking up their keys... from the front desk. This happened a few more times to my astonishment *sigh*

Pros: some staff and members are exceptionally awesome. Tyger, one of the managers is always friendly and her and Chauncey are incredibly hard workers. Joseph at the front desk is equally as awesome. I'm very impressed with many of their trainers too, and the group fitness classes are tremendous. Sara's battle ropes classes are a great workout and a solid group of regulars. The equipment and machines, and free weights are very good too.

Overall I'm not impressed with the MAC and their customer service and overall "vibe" is pretty lackluster. Case is point, I canceled my membership to go back to my old gym (more climbing, free weights, martial arts, yoga, etc) and had a month to use the MAC until my membership officially expired. I go in to get what I thought was my final workout and say goodbye to some of the staff and members who I liked... only to be told my membership expired the day before. That's fine. I assumed (incorrectly) that the young woman at the front desk would show some initiative to me, being a *former* member and all and simply allow me to go workout - since my membership literally expired the previous day. She told me she would have to charge me a "drop in fee" of $15. The money obviously wasn't the point, it was the simple principle and was the perfect embodiment of my experience as a member of the MAC...

Love coach Sara. I have been going to MAC for 7-8 years now. After 2 children, I tried various classes to bring my weight down (I like all the classes here). True magic happened when I had Sara as my trainer. She helped me with my core strength which most of people need but don’t realize. This additional training allows me to do so much better with HIIT classes like burn and Tabata without suffering from lower back pain. I am so grateful for Sara’s help and recommend her to everyone I know. I also agree with other reviews about friendly staff and how clean the place has always been. The whole experience at MAC is remarkable!

Joining Magnuson Athletic Club was one of the best things my wife and I have ever done. We joined in our early 60s and are still getting many benefits in our late 60s. We have learned so much about body mechanics, posture, balance, and fitness through our memberships. Improvements in core strength have helped my chronic back pain, and improvements in balance have probably prevented falls. We enjoy the group fitness and mind-body classes, but if these are not your cup of tea, MAC offers great equipment for individual workouts as well. We have made use of MAC personal trainers, who are outstanding, and well worth the cost. MAC staff are excellent and MAC is a friendly place to workout at. The facilities are clean and well-maintained.

I have been a member for years. The club is clean and equipment is all good. I have taken a few classes and the instructors I have had all seemed to do a good job. The staff has always been really nice.
They do not push the personal trainers and have not tried it. I have noticed that the people who regularly use the trainers get some impressive results. I may try it in the near future.
For awhile there were a few too many weight droppers but things seem to have calmed down a bit.
