This YMCA really is substandard. They are very inconsistent with their pool being opened late (most of the time) and often closed with no notice. Many of us have complained but it appears management writes is off as they are “understaffed.” What they fail to address is they have an obligation to notify the members as opposed to knowing their pool won’t open and not telling anyone. Save your money!! Poor leadership and nothing has changed after other complaints.

Update 6/30/25 - nothing has changed. Management has not addressed this issue. They refuse to post /notify members of delays or closures, which are very often.

After driving over an hour to watch our grandson play a basketball game, I was refused entry because I did not bring my purse with my id. My husband had his, but I was not permitted. NONE of the other YMCAs ever have even requested it.
The clerk at the desk was rude, and grinned when she said, “if you don’t have an id, I won’t let you in.”
YMCA will not get any support from me in the future. They are always disorganized and the staff is very unprofessional.

The pool is always closed without notice. YMCA has an apps to tell members when any class/facility is suspended. But we are not notified when the pool is closed. It repeatedly happens. Frustrating.

Convenient location, plenty of parking, well equipped with a verity of equipment. Mostly all is pretty much good including staff and faculty. My only complaint is that, it seems about 90% of people are there lacking the workout priority, instead constantly sitting on equipment on their phone. it's a couple of reps, then the phone, a couple of reps and back to the phone, over and over, texting and scrolling. It's disappointing that there is no consideration that someone is interested in using that "1" piece of equipment that they are waisting time on. Enforcing the "no phone rule" on the posted sign might help, or encourage and directing phone use to the nice large bench located by the lockers. I hope for improvement with that problem.

It is getting nearly impossible to workout here with all teens running around like a maniac. There is an area specifically designed for basketball but they are bringing it to the gym making others uncomfortable and impossible to workout. Please fix this and establish a little bit of rules in the gym.

The pool is always closed and my entire family’s account was removed from their “new” crm system. They can’t figure out how to add us back in while we waited for 30 mins. The receptionist staff is nice but doesn’t seem well trained in the system. They are also constantly understaffed. It’s also impossible to call and talk to a person who works at Matt Griffin as the phone number directs you a YMCA Seattle hotline.

Like many others have mentioned, the pool is frequently closed. If you have a young child learning to swim, expect limited opportunities to use it. Additionally, their cancellation policy is unreasonable—requiring 14 days' notice, with no prorated refunds, and charging for both the current and following month. For $155 a month, the membership was absolutely not worth it, and I wouldn’t sign up again.

Took the family here specifically for some pool time during a stay in SeaTac. The pool staff was awesome. A lifeguard, Edward, helped build my son’s swimming confidence during a swim test. He then made sure to get the water slide open so all the kids could have a great experience. Thanks, Edward!

Decent location with 4 square racks! Like nearly all Y’s we’ve been to only 1 smith machine. Their equipment is solid. The selection is a little slim yet spread out enough to make it feel spacious. As often encountered people are kind.

We have yet to try out kid care, rock climbing wall, or the pool as that could add a star. Would certainly return if in the area.

Hot Tips:

*If staying near the airport this is your location to go to. ✈️

*Angle Park is in the area and a gorgeous spot for a picnic, swim, splash pad and to hang out by their beach or shaded areas. 🛝 🏖️

*In the area is a Trader Joe’s and PCC market in the same plaza. 🏬 🛒

*For coffee go to Burien Press or really good espresso shots and drinks. Their baristas know what they’re doin! ☕️

The young funk kids life guard always on the phone they are not attentive..the front desk with a bunch of young people doesn't even know how to communicate and sucks service. I share the same sentiments as the other reviews. I have a membership for my kids to enjoy the open swim and just about every time we go, we have to turn around and go home. They don't have enough lifeguards, and they never alert people signed up for open swim until you get there in person. It's such a disappointment every time. Going to cancel our membership. I would give it zero stars, but I can't.

Very irresponsible. Went on Tuesday, women swimming no recreational swim. Went on Wednesday, only one hour open. Went on Thursday, pool closed for repair. Go to Friday, one hour open. The pool is just there for decorations, no one can use that.

It is 0 star if I can. I feel very unsafe there. I went to men locking room to take bath after sauna, and saw one guy with blackhat, black clothes get into the room, open all locking rooms, and take my debit card. I saw my Chase Bank later account deducted. I went to YMCA Matt Griffin to report card lost, no one takes serious actions against my lost. It is not safe there everybody, terrible experience.

This place has nothing to offer individuals that want to workout beyond swimming and cardio. They're open and close times are all over the place. They are open for 8hrs Monday-Thursday, closed Friday-Saturday and open on Sunday 10am-2pm. For an organization that is built around supporting a community it does a very poor job of being available. Additionally, their weightlifting section is cramped and provides minimal options. Their barbell plates literally bend. This isn’t a gym and it isn’t a place that tries to support its community. Do better.

They didn’t keep the online schedule up to date. It was like getting a secrete out of fort-Knox to find out about a Children’s class, specifically the toddler play time group. I would call to ask a question and be on hold forever and then the staff didn’t know the answer and wouldn’t try to find out. The chlorine in the water is too high.

It’s ok if I just go and work out but when my family engages in the programs, they rarely have a good time. Sometimes the front desk people in the morning are not friendly.

I hope the change in management brings positive changes. I have seen positive changes in how friendly the front desk people are and the quality of some of the class instruction.

It has a small workout facility as far as weights and machines go and gets really crowded sometimes! Also it caters a little too much to the children. Often times adults want to arrive at any given time they are open and be able to shoot baskets and or have full court games. But for some reason the courts are always booked for children's events and it kind of excludes the adults from being able to enjoy the membership availabilities that we pay for its actually frustrating. I would suggest LA Fitness or 24 hour fitness sport for adults who want full availability and access to ALL facilities no matter what time you show up.

This YMCA location is very child friendly and community oriented. You can rock climb, swim, play basketball, use fitness machines/weights, participate in fitness classes, and drop your kids off for childcare while you do so. They offer women only swim too! Plus a variety of group fitness classes such as yoga, Zumba, strength conditioning, etc.

I don't think I'll be back, after I was treaded today.
We were told that everybody had to get out of the pool and go outside. I found out some people was allowed to go get their clothes and change and then go, quickly.
When I got outside they told me that there was a gas leak and we weren't not allowed to go back in. They didn't know when they'll be opening up again.
Now, I'm still soaking wet, standing outside in the cold and snow wet sidewalk, barefoot.
I told them my clothes is still inside and I'm stand there in 36 degrees temperature, soaking wet bath suit.
I came there on a disabled bus and had to wait for another hour, before it would come.
One lady came and gave me three towels (at least she did something for me), but how will three towels keep me warm all the way home, walking, soaking wet?
The lady asked me where my clothes, that she would get them and bring them to me. Right! Where was I going to change outside in the cold?
Then she said she had to ask somebody what she had to do.
She came back out and said I could come in and hurry and change.
While changing some lady life guard came and opened the door on me.
Didn't even have the nerve to sorry.
I'm going to think very hard, about coming next week or any other time.

Decent price and has the works. Free babysitting in house for 2 hours is a huge plus. They have a variety of good classes and you can achieve a great level of fitness with what they offer. Frequently too crowded in the afternoon with all treadmills in use or the pool being mobbed. I feel like they care but the workers can't keep up. There are a always a few people there who leave weights and equipment out or will sit at machines for 5+ minutes on their phones. If you can avoid the post work crowd that's when it is the most crazy.
