Momentum in SoDo is great! We have a family of four membership and the staff has always been super helpful and nice. The facility has a great selection of boulder problems and the setting rotates weekly. They have both a tension board and a kilter board, with plenty of hang boards. The gym area isn't crazy with equipment, but they have plenty racks barbells and weights along with a few machines and functional fitness items. Overall this gym is great and is one of the only areas south of the city to climb.

This is the best bouldering gym I've ever been to. Something about the "feng shui" of this place, it's perfect! It's open, it's clean, it's not super crowded, always a good time

I had a great time climbing here! At the conclusion of my trip to Seattle, I stopped in using a day ticket. 11/10- their Team is so pleasant and their community was inviting and fun to chat/climb with. Fantastic location with a wide range of challenges and terrains. There is also a handwashing sink outside the bathrooms which is just fantastic lol.

A solid bouldering-only (no roped routes) gym in the middle of Seattle. Also has a good free weights section, cardio room, and various grip exercises and hanging boards. Came here before a flight out after a mountaineering trip and the front desk was nice enough to keep my bags for me. Paid $28 for a day pass which is fine, and memberships seem reasonable too.
Would definitely recommend as a good all-around gym. Be aware if you lift heavy (esp. on deadlifts) that their weights are only the bulky recycled rubber bumper plates, so you're going to max out around 405 before you run out of space on the bar for clips.

I enjoy climbing and the excellent yoga classes by teachers Natasha R and Shelly G. Thanks to Natasha I learned how to do a headstand and get a great core-yoga workout each week!
This bouldering gym is clean, well equipped with cardio and weight equipment, and has a friendly atmosphere. They're great about maintaining and replacing the equipment. There's plenty of lockers with code-locks to secure items.
Extra perks - They serve good coffee too, and occasionally breakfast! The coworking space is quite nice too.

Love the place, still here a year later. My only wish is that they had more holds for down-climbing so we can exercise more vs falling off the wall.

I've been climbing at Momentum in SODO pretty much since they opened and it's been fantastic the entire time. They've got a great team who are super friendly and seem to really enjoy working there, lots of routes & sections are updated weekly (the best kind of problems!). The gym is really clean with high ceilings & great ventilation, a nice-sized weight lifting area, and plenty of cardio machines in their own room (which really contains their sound). It's rarely packed, but they've got an app so you can see how many people are there which has been especially nice through COVID & personally great for when I'm not feeling social but still want to work out. Happy to continue my annual membership!

Very helpful staff, creative routes, good route setting schedule, not too crowded.
Knocked down to 4 stars because they took away the discounted 6 month plans in favor of month-to-month and 12 month plans. Hard to commit to a full year or eat the extra cost of month-to-month.

Nice gym. Itβs clean and comfortable and the training equipment is enough.
Also, there are showers for bath after you bouldering. The terrains are also interesting for many nice funny routes setting. But It would be better if the gym can set more dynamic routes that need dyno or running to jump together with some coordination moves then is perfect ππ½

Great gym. Really appreciate the variety of routes, how clean and modern it is (especially compared to SBP), how it's never packed (again, SBP), and the natural light. I love that the cardio equipment is in a separate room so you're not breathing chalk. Their huge yoga studio is a plus too. I wish the weight area had more machines and equipment, especially an assisted pull-up machine. I'd also love if they offered group fitness classes. I used to climb at Movement Crystal City and they had fantastic 30 min core classes that they did in the yoga studio and a 30 min total body class that they did in the weight area. If Momentum started offering those and improved the weight area equipment, I'd consider becoming a member instead of using punch passes. Also, they desperately need to replace their yoga mats. Iβve done a lot of yoga classes and have never used mats that smelled so bad/were so dirty.
EDIT: Apparently they replaced their yoga mats in May 2024. I last took a class just before that. Glad they have new mats!

The staff here are friendly. They have Groupon regularly. I am a fan of this place.
I found the place well vented ( no strong feet smell). The place also had a hand washing station outside of the restrooms. There was hand sanitizer located in multiple places.

This was my go to gym for a while but honestly they donβt reset the routes frequently enough and they charge a lot for it being such a small gym. Thereβs another gym nearby thatβs the same price but with way more value that does offer discounted memberships. Really wasnβt getting the value out of it maybe if they offer discounted memberships for us non-tech workers that donβt make 6-figures Iβd consider rejoining. It's good. Small. Resets are in small sections. However, it's peaceful. Most people are respectful compared to another gym we won't mention. The locker rooms are very nice. I love the sinks not in the bathroom for hand washing. I feel safe here even in the parking lot vs the other gym we won't name. I like that there isn't a food bar and a million kids running free. I mean kids programs and them being unsupervised, not kids with their family. They aren't gimmicky and I don't feel like they're just trying to only make a profit off of me in a million different ways. They don't offer a discounted membership for us poor folks or I'd switch teams. Maybe in the future I'll by a punch card π

This gym is a real gem with a wide variety of boulder problems in different styles. If you like a challenge, in a less crowded space, this is the bouldering gym for you! The workout space is fantastic, the hand washing station outside the bathroom is genius, and the showers and lockers are the best I've seen at a climbing gym yet!
After you've finished your workout, replenish with great food from Paseo's or other delish spots, and hang out at Monkey Loft for some great DJ-ing and dancing for a well-rounded day!
For more critical details:
+ They use actual V-Grades
+ They have a wide variety of hard problems
+ You are unlikely to fall on someone wandering around not paying attention, b/c of the intelligent layout
+ No waiting to climb the problem you want to try
+ If you like they gym as a dating scene, you have a wide variety of after-climb activities within walking distance

Had a great time at this gym. I picked Momentum to visit on vacation amongst the sea of Seattle climbing gyms because they had a Groupon. My partner and I visited on a weekday morning and it was super quiet, only maybe 10-15 people in the whole gym plus some summer camp kids.
The gym isn't huge, but had a good variety of wall types and styles of climbs. I thought the grading was a bit inconsistent but the setting was fun so I didn't really care. I particularly enjoyed the top out boulders, which I haven't had much experience with. Everything was super clean and the grimy foot smell typical to climbing gyms was minimal.
The weightlifting and cardio areas were also spacious and well equipped for both climbing-specific and more general strength workouts. They had a huge selection of bands and even had two 15kg barbells, a rare find.

Upsides: Gym has good facilities for bouldering at each skill level, classes are great, yoga, coffee in the mornings, programs for kids, staff is nice, courses switch out on a regular schedule.
Downsides: price is higher than sayβ¦ 24 hour fitness or Planet Fitness (but they often donβt have climbing facilities)β lifting/cardio area could use a leg machine of some kind, and If youβre looking for a gym thatβs a comfortable temperature to lift or climb in, this ainβt it. The place is a great gym, the last time I climbed there, I didnβt enjoy it that much because there was a lot of grime on all the foot holds and the mats werenβt my favorite. I wouldn't recommend this gym to anybody. Part of their required waiver is requesting your email that they will spam so often and relentlessly that you will consider cancelling your internet service all together. Not to mention its priced like it could only exist is Seattle, Sanfran, or New York. I genuinely regret having gone to this gym, as my lasting impression is just annoyance

Update:
Really enjoyed the routes, felt much better than last time. Also, the changes with the mats are a serious upgrade. This feels like a gym where people come and grind. If you are looking for a bouldering gym, this is a great option! $25 is a bit steep for a day pass though.
Previous review: (4 stars)
Nice bouldering only gym, it is not the biggest but is big enough. The mats are quite firm, to a point where I felt uneasy topping out (which is about 1/3 of the gym) or climbing to the top of these walls . Many of the routes are 1-move wonders, which is not ideal. The routes tend to be more dynamic, lots of big moves. The workout area seems nice and a great place for exercise beyond climbing. It was extremely empty, talking to a few others it seems it never really gets busy, which is a huge plus (looking at you SBP). Overall, I enjoyed my day visit

Went last summer and was underwhelmed. Left a review with a few reasons. Several months later I received an email stating they have made improvements, also received a coupon for a cheaper day pass.
This gym lives up to the hype from their email, day pass coupon was a nice touch as well. Would go back again now, will bring friends. Fun routes, nicer improved mats. Still a little hard but that's okay. Staff were super nice. Great bathrooms and hand washing station. Meh parking but we figured it out.

Clean and usually not crowded. Biggest issue is the lack of creative route setting and safety issues on the island. Why does all of that space need a 5 foot 30 degree runout?
Mats are pretty stiff so it takes away a lot of confidence trying new moves. Cheaper than other gyms but you get a lot less. Hopefully SBP makes another gym down south!

In Seattle we are fortunate to have options of where to go for climbing/bouldering, and my favorite by far is Momentum. The staff are always kind, chill & helpful, the location is clean and spacious with high ceilings, and while I wouldn't leave my car there overnight, I know that it's always safe while I'm there.

I've been a member since they've opened. Its the closest gym on the south end for me and its never unbearably busy. The rates are much better than others and they consistently have great deals for members and non-members if you're looking for a steal. Accessibility is great with the SoDo station a couple blocks away. I've subconsciously avoided writing an in depth review because I'm a sneaky snake. Please come and join our diverse and supportive community.

I joined in September and have been an avid user of the gym since. Staff is friendly, kind and personable. I am not a climbing expert but find that the routes they set are varying and interesting. They reset pretty frequently so things donβt get stale and are enjoyable. Couldnβt have a better experience.

It was great bringing the kid I babysit here, he had a lot of fun climbing for the first time! I enjoyed showing him the basics and had a ton of fun as well. All the routes are very unique and definitely gave me a challenge!

Tried coming here yesterday but the two gals at the front desk were very patronizing about us not knowing we had to walk straight to the iPads to sign a waiver before coming to the desk. Then they proceeded to talk about how stupid we were while we filled out the forms but we could hear them, weβre offended, and left. Went to Seattle Bouldering Project instead, they were great.

I love this gym so much! The staff are knowledgeable and interactive, give clear direction as to what you're doing/how to improve, and the routes are fun yet challenging. Going to be one of my frequent climbing gyms I go to from now on :)

Went at 730pm and it has what felt like a perfect amount of people. Not overly packed like sbp and not too sparse like the other smaller gyms. Enough people to feel the psych and work with others, but not too many people where you were waiting more than climbing or trying to jump in line to climb.

Really inclusive environment. Staff answered all the questions that I had without making me feel rushed. As a complete beginner, I was a little intimidated by picking up a new hobby. However, the staff is incredibly friendly and eased all my concerns. Very large gym with a lot of variety. Looking forward to coming back.

Great customer service. Good variety of climbing route levels of difficulty. Free lockers to use during the visit were great to store valuables while climbing. Also, there are showers available in the locker room.

Edit: December, 2022
The mats are better than a couple years ago when I last came into the gym. Still on the firmer side but it's much safer to fall on now.
All the sets are still very solid! Some sets still favor taller folk (maxing out my reach and some dynos on v2-v3) but there are definitely a good amount of short-friendly climbs for the vertically challenged.
They have nice pin number lockers you can use to keep your stuff safe when you come. And the gym facility is pretty well kept and pretty decked out. The Treadwall is really cool too! It's like being in a reverse hamster wheel.

This is a relatively new climbing establishment in SoDo and they have some solid climbs.
However, the mats you fall on are a little hard on your feet and bottom in comparison to other local climbing gyms where they have thick soft mats to land on. In the case where you are too tired to down climb, falling or dropping when you are at the highest points of the route can be a bit scary because they do not recommend that you fall in the training video since the harder mats aren't great for breaking your fall. If you are looking to challenge yourself with some pretty dynamic moves or expecting an awkward move, I would really suggest having a spotter with you so you don't end up falling in a weird way.
The staff are welcoming and lockers are really up to date and modern.
They also have a free weight section, which is great!
Very spacious, but I think they could have doubled the amount of climbing routes with the space they have in the gym.

The gym itself was really clean and I especially loved how there was a room with gym equipment, and a yoga studio!
But after reading some of these reviews, Iβm a little disappointed that I wasnβt offered any of the member perks at the front desk. I told the lady it was my first time and I had no idea how to get started. She gave me quite a perfunctory and abstruse explanation then followed up asking if I needed shoes. I didnβt get a chalk bag, although Iβm not sure if these get handed out.
I did enjoy the treadwall, it was essentially my go to and hopefully a lesson is offered the next time that way Iβm more confident.

Great (fun and interesting) route setting. The gym is very clean with modern training tools and an exceptional fitness area. There's also plenty of parking, especially for an urban Seattle location. Best of all, they are not forcing the staff to continue the mask charade.
I've climbed at all the local gyms and momentum is my favorite bouldering spot in Western Washington.
