At Organically Grown Muscle, we believe that strength training is more than just lifting weights—it’s about building confidence, improving health, and creating lasting change. Located on South Tacoma Way, our gym provides a supportive, inclusive fitness community where everyone is welcome, from beginners trying weightlifting for the first time to experienced athletes seeking consistent progress.

Our programs are designed to meet you where you are. Choose from Personal Training for one-on-one coaching, Semi-Private Training for small-group motivation with individualized attention, or Group Strength Training classes for a fun, community-driven experience.

This is a fantastic gym! I have truly been able to step up my progress like never before by attending group classes with these kind and knowledgeable trainers. The workouts are challenging and always feel fresh and thoughtful, my "pain points" are all but fading away as I get stronger each session. Organically Grown Muscle is not your cookie cutter gym. I have had memberships at the regular big corporation gyms, have even tried their personal training but was never satisfied or felt heard when voicing my goals and concerns. Once I started at OMG I felt like I was immediately welcomed. The owner and instructors genuinely care about their clients and strive hard to help each member to reach their personal goals no matter what level they are starting at. If 1 on 1 sessions aren't your style, the group sessions are great because they change the theme each month so the excersices never get boring. In just a few short months I went from being afraid to doing deadlifts and squats due to a bad back, to falling in love with the exercises and feeling stronger with each coaches guidance. They also made me feel challenged in a way that made me excited to come to class and see how far I could push myself. If you're looking for a no b.s. approach to your fitness goal but also want to feel like your a part of a community I HIGHLY suggest walking into Organically Grown Muscle and signing up.

Where to start? I searched for years for a gym in the Tacoma area. One day I decided I really wanted to explore weightlifting. I ended up meeting Anthony at his gym and knew I had stumbled upon something special and different. As someone who has struggled with unwanted weight gain, body image issues, and lack of motivation, this place helped me get unstuck. OGM is a place where I feel safe, welcomed, cared for, and challenged all at once. The community vibe is the same. As someone that identifies as sensitive I have never felt more comfortable in a gym setting. I have already accomplished more then I thought I could physically, and I’ve been going for over a year. I highly recommend this gym if you are looking for a fitness journey that comes with the benefits of the fantastic community that Anthony has created. This place is legit.

I'm really enjoying the semi private training program at Organically Grown Muscle and am excited to start my second round. You don't get lost in a big group, have personal support, and you're also taught independence in semis. I've always lacked confidence in my skills and that has kept me from going to the gym on my own. I'm gaining confidence here and I'm very thankful for that. Everyone who works at the gym and works out here are also incredibly nice and supportive. I have appreciated Anthony as my trainer helping me get my form right and being safe while lifting, and at the same time pushing me to challenge myself. It also means a lot that I can come into this space and be myself without fear of judgement. I'm so glad I took the chance and am now lifting 3x a week at OGM.

I’m really enjoying my workouts at OGM! It’s only been one month, but I can say I’m hooked! Anthony has created a warm & inviting space. It is obvious he has a passion for helping folks become more fit and succeed in their goals. His staff are knowledgeable and encouraging, always willing to explain and correct my form. It is quite a family feel at OGM! There are events, theme days, and an abundance of camaraderie! I have only participated in class style workouts thus far, but they offer semi private sessions along with private one on one sessions. I’m in it for the long haul!! Come check it out! I’m so happy I FINALLY found a gym I feel comfortable in! The staff is welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. I really like my personal trainer, Taylor. I’ve only been going 3 times a week for a few weeks and I’m already noticing huge results in my endurance, energy and overall strength. I will definitely be continuing to workout here and would highly recommend this gym to anyone but especially women who are intimidated to start strength training.

Amazing gym, highly recommend!!!
I started personal training at OGM through their 6-week training and nutrition program and the results are amazing! I feel great and I can feel a noticeable difference in my strength already! I’m down 9 lbs, lost 2% body fat, and still gained muscle and definition! Even got my deadlift from 50 lbs to 210 lbs!!! Anthony, the owner of OGM, creates an amazing, safe, and welcoming environment that really makes you feel comfortable to try new and challenging things. All of the instructors, Taylor, Ashley & Anthony, are also amazing and make you feel like you can do anything! I love that the OGM community is so inclusive and supportive. I’ve tried their group and semi classes as well and would recommend all of them — they really have something for everyone here! If you’re looking for a gym that feels like a community, this is your place!

Owner came out and kicked out vendors who spent an hour putting together their booths from a sidewalk he doesn't own. Literally crapped on small businesses who were just trying to make a living during Reggae Rise Up. Terrible human being to treat small businesses that way. 100% wouldn't recommend using their services for this reason alone. Shame on you!

UPDATE: By his own admission the owner knew what he was doing was wrong and how he treated the small businesses was terrible and intentional. He is now trying to act like he didn't know the event was happening when it's been planned for that same spot for over a year. Saying "I didn't know there would people attending a festival with businesses who sell stuff" give us a break. You're a terrible person for doing what you did, just own up to it, you barked, yelled and stomped your feet to not only close your store but cowered away in your little cave. I'll never encourage anyone to use your services and I'm hoping other businesses also leave similar reviews. Nice try making "amends" but the damage is already done. You're not a nice person. Plain and simple.

Anthony has created an amazing space! He is inspirational, personally engaged, and he really cares about each member of the gym. He's genuine and I knew it was the right place for me the first time I met him.
The gym is really cool! Photos of strong women and motivational quotes decorate the walls. It is easy to get to, comfortable, and sparkling clean.
All of the trainers are amazing. Taylor is a great teacher! She provides just the right amount of coaching/cheering/challenging to keep the workouts fun and productive.
The other members of the gym are really supportive and incredible. So many strong, amazing women (and some men too!) of varying ages and fitness levels. Yet, everyone fits in. It truly is an inclusive, welcoming community.
As someone who is nearly 60, never having belonged to a gym for myself before, and a cancer survivor, I am so grateful to have found a place where I can focus on getting strong and living long. At the same time, I'm having fun, learning new things, and building confidence. Pretty awesome!

I am not your typical gym gal. Or a morning person. It takes a lot for me to get started and stick with something. With that being said, I have managed to make it to the 6am classes on a regular basis. This speaks volumes about how special OG is. The coaches are encouraging and meet you where you are at with gentle pushes. The community is wonderful, inspiring and will cheer you on as you build strength. In the 2 months I have been attending classes, I have felt a renewed sense of self, growing strength and confidence. I have also seen progress reflected in loss of weight and body fat. Anthony has created a special place that is accepting and welcoming to everyone. The coaches (Anthony, Taylor, Zach and Ashley) make classes engaging and fun. Special shout out to Taylor who keeps us all motivated at 6am!

I started my fitness journey in February with OG Muscle. I initially started with their 6 week program, which came with a meal planning guide and either classes weekly or personal training for an additional cost. The meal guide was very helpful in understanding how I need to structure my meals - that was something I had never learned before, but the guide and Anthony - the owner - had broken it down in layman’s terms and made it easy to grasp.

I opted for personal training three times a week, and they were able to work around my schedule and put me on the same day and time every week with the same trainer, Zach. This helped make working out into a habit. Zach quickly picked up on my strengths and weaknesses and came up with a good game plan to help me build up my strength while still being challenging enough to strive for more.

With OG Muscle, I was able to lose 30 pounds in 20 weeks and keep the weight off, become comfortable and confident with gym equipment, and gain a better understanding of my body and its abilities.

I signed up for the six week introductory personal training. It included three sessions per week of personal training, nutrition guidance with recipes, regular check-ins and access to my trainer daily if I needed encouragement, advice, or a question answered. The owner, Anthony, is on a mission to help people get and stay healthy and his heart really comes through when he is working with you. Organically Grown has been a supportive, comfortable environment for me to get back into working out after being out of the game for a long time. In six weeks I have lost 6 lbs and gained some biceps I didn't know I had. I started out deadlifting 20 lbs and just deadlifted 62 lbs at my last session. My trainer Zach is really nice, knowledgeable, and great at making modifications and helping you through any challenges you might be facing. I couldn't have asked for a better place to land and start working towards my goals. Thanks to Anthony and Zach for being a couple of great genuine guys! OG has a new space that is wonderful. They now have showers, 3x more space, dressing areas, and lockers. The workout last night actually cleared my head. Had a great experience for my first 6wk challenge. I have health issues the hinder progress and it's hard to find personal trainers that are willing to listen and take that into consideration. This gym has been so amazing for me!
I've always had a hard time sticking to a gym but the classes they offer keep me accountable for going and are a great workout. The classes change monthly (since I've been here) which gives you time to set goals for each exercise but then move onto new things the next month. I love it!
The instructors are great! Knowledgeable and helpful. They offer modifications for any level.
It truly is a supportive community as well.
If you have had a hard time sticking with a gym or being motivated to go like I have, I highly recommend this gym for you 😀

When I first came to OG Muscle I was exhausted, completely lacking muscle tone and had many physical limitations due to chronic health conditions including severe lung disease. Anthony provided me with a customized nutrition plan that helped subdue my cravings for sweets, increased my energy, and allowed me to lose 7 pounds in the first 6 weeks while at the same time gaining muscle. My trainer Zach is encouraging and supportive, answers any questions I have and patiently demonstrates proper form until I get it right. I am grateful to Anthony for sharing his knowledge and expertise, a welcoming atmosphere, and especially for providing a safe space where everyone, including older women, can improve not only their physical bodies but also their emotional well-being and quality of life. After about a year at og I was able to join the gym down the street from my house and be able to lift and work out confidently on my own. From the moment I walked into Organically Grown Muscle, I knew I had found something special.

Living with axial spondyloarthritis means pain is a constant battle, making workouts difficult at times. A rare lipid-clearing disorder kept my triglycerides dangerously high, despite every medication, diet, and exercise plan my doctors tried. On top of that, recovering from breast cancer and a double mastectomy left me feeling weak and disconnected from my body. The idea of working out again felt intimidating—but the coaches and members at OG Muscle changed everything for me.

Every single coach has been incredibly supportive, modifying exercises to fit my abilities and never making me feel like I’m not doing enough. On tough days, when lifting weights isn’t an option or I need extra modifications, they still celebrate my effort and make me feel accomplished. Group classes are excellent. Don’t be intimidated. The trainers are very knowledgeable and supportive. They demo and explain all exercises carefully, answering any questions anyone has before we get started. They can offer any modifications you may need. And we have fun! Every class includes some laughter, singing, and encouragement.

I really started seeing progress when I joined the semi-private training sessions. Here, you get more personalized attention, as programs are matched to your specific fitness goals. At 55 years old, Anthony has (safely) pushed me far beyond what I thought I was capable of. I have to keep coming up with new goals as I crush the previous ones.

Anthony also offers nutrition advice, which has been super helpful. Once I started following it more closely, the pounds came off and the body fat went down, and all those muscles I’d been working on finally started showing.

I can’t say enough about this gym! Anthony, the owner, truly cares about everyone who walks through the door. He’s not only approachable and knowledgeable but also practices what he preaches—he’s a real example of fitness. The training here is well-rounded, starting with a solid warm-up, followed by a focused strength or core workout, and finishing with a stretch and cool-down. One of the best parts? They also offer nutrition guidance, which is a huge plus. It’s clear they understand that you can’t build muscle if you’re fueling your body with garbage, and their advice has been invaluable.

I absolutely loved working out here, and the only challenge for me was the distance and my work hours, which sometimes made it hard to make class. But despite that, I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a complete fitness experience!

I recently joined OG. I have trained at several personal gyms and have been lifting for years. I will say that Anthony and Zach really touched my heart! I watched 2 compassionate trainers help a new member with her workout. The patience, kindness they displayed moved me. It was a ton of fun trying a class. Anthony is so personable and the gym has such a great group of welcoming and friendly ladies. What began as an exercise program in December, with only the hope of looking better in my clothes, quickly became something else. In the beginning my balance was so bad that standing on 2 feet was at times precarious! I was lucky if I could lift 10 lb dumb bells. I was completely in awe of those doing pull ups with bands – sure I would never there. I still am not there, but very close.
It didn’t take long for my fitness journey to become something more than how I looked. It became more internal, more personal. It is now more about feeling good about the smallest victories – like 1 more rep, adding another 5 lbs, the self-discipline I have found that keeps going even when some days it feels like sheer drudgery. I have more energy, a quiet sense of peace as well as strength emotionally, and I made it through the gray, dark, gloomy winter easier. My brain feels stronger, if that makes sense. I have gone from falling off the balance ball to having better balance than I have had in many years. I have more energy. Yes, I look better, too.
Anthony runs a very professional gym as well as sincerely caring about each member. Along with that, the classes are small enough that it is almost like having a personal trainer. All the staff is helpful, encouraging and make sure we are all doing things the correct way, making sure no one gets hurt. We also have a lot of fun.
Anthony also incorporates a lot of nutrition and plans for working out at home. He will hold you accountable and nudge you just enough to keep you in line! This is seriously one of the best decisions I have made concerning self-care.

Those lucky people who say they love the feeling they get while working out? Yeah, that’s definitely not me. I hate it. It hurts. It’s hard to breathe. The minutes go by so slowly. I just want to be done. And then there’s Anthony. While I hate the actual ‘having to exercise’ part of going to the gym, I enjoy him as both a trainer and a person.

Perhaps he notices the daggers shooting from my eyes when he strays from the usual 3 sets and adds a fourth because I ‘look like (I) could do another one’. I hate how he makes me do the ropes because he knows it’s my least favorite cardio move. Perhaps I occasionally swear when I feel like I can’t do another rep but he’s telling me I need to do 2 more ( sometimes under my breath. Sometimes, I make sure he hears it). It’s possible he has lost faith in my ability to ever ‘keep that right knee out’. Surely, I drive him crazy asking him the same questions about how to do something. But, here’s the thing with Anthony: no matter how hard I think he’s pushing me past what I think I can do, he’s always been right. He is very perceptive at picking up when I’m honestly exhausted and when I’m just being lazy. So, what I’m saying here is that you won’t be able to slack off with him like you can when working out alone at home. Be prepared for that. In a good way. I guess😁.

I’m 51 years old, 5’5”, and have had 2 children. I started out at 142 lb. I have been training with him once a week for 7 months. During that time, I’ve lost 20 lb. I tried losing the weight at home. That used to work but as I’ve aged, it no longer does. Additionally, as someone who suffers from social anxiety, I never thought I would be brave enough to go to a gym. There’s always that fear of being judged. But his sense of humor and easygoing nature have made me unusually comfortable.

He flipped the switch. He holds me accountable. Every time I walk through the doors, he asks how my home workouts are going. If I tell him some muscle or joint has been hurting that week, he tells me how to adjust the exercise to accommodate it. Every base is covered.

Everyone’s ideal trainer would be someone who truly wants them to succeed and he does that. I rarely recommend professionals/ companies to people because I worry the experience that they have might not be as positive as the one I have, but this is an exception. There is no doubt. I’ve told Anthony that if it’s not him, it’s no one. He is the ruler by which all others are measured. I can’t imagine finding anyone better. And if I haven’t mentioned how much I hate working out, let me do that now, for the 12th time. But as much as I dread that 45 minutes while it’s happening, I love the feeling when I walk out the door, knowing I just did that. And every time I do a work-out at home, I’m proud of myself. The support he provides, his knowledge, his ability to motivate, just his whole persona is top-notch. This is the place to make progress.

So, here’s the part where I tell Anthony ‘thank you. I couldn’t have done it without you. But I truly hate my 45 minutes with you.

I’d been curious about strength training and weight lifting for many reasons, the big one being that I just wanted to do everything I could to keep moving as I age. Later in life, I don’t want any aches and pains to limit me and keep me from doing the things I love. Also, looking at my genetics and knowing what ailments and diseases run in my family, I knew that strength training could potentially ward off some of those things plus help me manage issues I’m dealing with already.

My friend had been taking classes at Organically Grown Muscle and spoke so highly of owner/trainer Anthony, the program, and the community surrounding it. At the end of September, I signed up with Anthony and began doing private training sessions with him twice a week at the gym.

Anthony is a kind, caring, and encouraging trainer. He offers instruction clearly. If I am doing things wrong, he gently corrects, never making me feel like I’m failing or doing things too terribly wrong. He has a deep knowledge base of fitness, health, and nutrition and is always happy to field any questions I have. He pushes me harder than I ever do on my own. When I hit a new personal record, he’s truly as excited at the victory as I am. He offers such great support.

When I first started going to OGM I had been doing a lot of walking plus some cardio at the Y, but was really ready to vary my routine. His strength training and weight lifting program, customized to meet my body’s needs, offers great variety. It’s never boring. All muscles are addressed.

I love witnessing the measurable progress - seeing new muscles take shape, moving up to heavier weights, and doing things I never thought my 55-year old body was capable of doing. I love feeling stronger and moving though each day with greater ease. Generally, I feel calmer and happier. Going into this, I never expected it would have such a positive affect on my mental health — I really only anticipated changes to my physical body.

The space he’s created is welcoming, comfortable, and feels safe - not your typical gym culture. He’s attracted a wonderful clientele - a diverse group of people at a broad range of ages who are as encouraging as Anthony is. It’s a positive place. It’s not a competitive place. You feel like you belong there.

When I started this journey, I never thought I would enjoy it as much as I do. I’ve increased my appointments to three times a week now with Anthony, and look forward to each day — even “leg day.”

I have lifted weights for years and have worked around lots of personal trainers, many of whom are not particularly skilled or that can actually get you hurt. Having been at Anthony's gym for a couple months its pretty clear he know his business and knows how to set up a great workout while at the same time keeping people safe.

I don't like other classes with blasting music or constant screaming/ cheering. Actual workout was great and based on building strength without silly movements or jumping around! I have had many not so great experiences at other classes but I really enjoyed Organically Grown Muscle!

I have known Anthony for a long time. A year ago I finally took the leap and joined his gym. I'm so glad I did!! Anthony has helped me so much with toning and strength and coordination. Challenging free weights workout with information of how to modify for ability. As a 50-something female who has never had experience with free weights and felt intimidated by them, it was a great place to learn about using free weights within a cardio routine! I joined a group weightlifting 101 class which had great music, and kicked my butt in the good way. The space is clean and follows covid guidelines. Anthony provided encouraging and helpful comments during the session both to individuals and as a group.

I lost contact with him for several years but started hearing he was back in town and doing some workout programs.. This place is not you average gym. You won’t find meat heads with judgment eyes. What you will find is community. People of all ages and fitness levels who support each other and encourage each other. Anthony the owner is amazing he genuinely cares about each person that comes here. He won’t try and push supplements and protein powders nope you definitely won’t see those here! Because of this place these people and Anthony I have managed my type 2 diabetes without medication. Classes here have become the highlight of my week! Anthony does a great job pulling together circuits each month that are both exciting and challenging. I love small group training classes because they really allow me to focus on what I’m doing instead of being self-conscious about looking weak. The smaller classes also allow for Anthony to give attention to each person in class to make sure we’re positioned properly and getting the full range of motion.
I love the energy in the classes, everyone is friendly and the right amount of goofy which really brings a whole other level of enjoyment to the space. I’ve been going to the classes for about a year and a half now- the longest I’ve ever stuck with any routine- so I think that says a lot.
The also love that the gym is always clean and is a waste-free space. They offer glasses for the fountain and actual towels instead of filling up pails full paper towels. All around, this gym is an excellent place to lift your spirits and improve your movements. Definitely check it out!

Albeit new, I stopped in to see the offerings this place had. Anthony greeted me and was very informative right from the start. I've signed up for some training and he has exceeded my expectations. Considering how new the place is, I think he's done a great job of getting all the equipment needed to meet demand. This is a great location for anyone close to downtown Tacoma and it has community building vibes.
