I can’t wait to start my first day at this gym, not only have I been searching for a good gym but also the right the right fit. I spoke to a sales representative and quite honestly that’s what sold me. I felt like I was talking to an old family member. it was warm and welcoming.

I assumed this gym had some magic to it that would blow me away because of the $100/monthly fee. nope. regular gym, a little dirty even. Don't waste your money.

Today someone had set the TVs in the cardio area to a channel that was showing domestic violence and sexual abuse. When I brought it up to the staff, they told me that they can't do anything about it. Not only that, but they said there's nothing wrong with playing that stuff because all gym users are required to be over 18. I think this is disgusting. If you can avoid spending money here you should.

If I could rate zero stars I would, anyone that actually thinks this gym is worth the money is delusional.
First, I joined this gym 2 years ago with the promise of "If you sign up today, your membership fee will never increase". While this was true for about a year, this year they decided to increase my membership fee by $40 without notifying me.
Their defense? They put a regular sheet of paper at the front with size 12 font "notifying" their members of the increase. When I called and confronted them about this, I was hit with a "we sent you an email and then I asked for the specific email address and there was nothing sent."
I wouldn't have minded the increase (even though it is outrageous to charge $100 a month for the kind of equipment they have) if they were just truthful about it instead of trying to slide it in without any notification to their members. In reality its another one of those gyms that try to scam you out of as much money as they can.
PLEASE AVOID, so many other gyms in the area for less and you get so much more out of it.

BEST GYM, BEST EQUIPMENTS , CLEAN. MUSIC IS ALWAYS ON POINT, lights are DIM and it’s an environment you can grow in. The coaches work diligently to help you accomplish your fitness goals. They provide posing, meal plans, ongoing support, intense training, and knowledge that can help you achieve the best version of yourself. Don’t go anywhere else and waist your time or money. The cost of this gym is not worth it, even tho the gym itself is really good.
It’s ~$110 monthly. They also charged me a sign up fee of ~$150 and 2 weeks later charged me a $90 "yearly" fee, on top of the monthly fee. To be honest, the pricing structure is so bull, I would like to give it a 1 star. I gave it a 2 because the equipment is actually great.
There is only 1 location, although there website makes it seem like a chain. They have the bare minimum for classes. No ammenities other than the actual gym itself (no towel service, no guest passes, no saunas, no courts or track, etc).
They have tons of good stuff if your into the classic body building type workouts, and also have some funky turf zones and calisthenic equipment if your into that. Also all the basic and even some more advanced cardio machines.
Overall, I'm locked into the gym for the next year because of all the fees, but won't be renewing.

I recently joined this gym and have nothing but good things to say about the facility and the staff. After being a member at 24 HF for years, the number one thing I appreciate about this gym is that it’s CLEAN! The staff are always kind and accommodating. Thank you Richard and Dave for getting me signed up!

Been going here for 5 years. It has a decent amount of equipment, the staff are friendly, the hours are fine, and it stays fairly clean. No amenities outside of a shower/locker room. It's very much just a gym and that's what's been great about it for me until recently.
As others have said, the recent price increase pushes it up to $100/month. It was already expensive for what it offered, but this is an average gym with no special amenities charging specialty gym prices. 24 Hour Fitness, Rain City Fit, Cap Hill Fitness, and others offer roughly the same but for $60/month or cheaper. And given they can do it at that price, PNW Fitness ownership blaming the rising cost of equipment, upkeep, and wages feels disingenuous. Planning on cancelling my membership soon.

Was a very convenient local gym for me for years. Right above a grocery store, walking distance from home and ample parking downstairs, but having noticed my rate abruptly jumped from $60/mo to $85 with barely any communication, I will be canceling, and I cannot imagine spending $100/mo for this gym as a new member.
There are multiple competitively priced options in the area and I have not noticed any significant improvements to the facilities, it’s perfectly adequate but not worth such a sudden and significant price increase. I would suggest the owners plan ahead better and make smaller more incremental increases to rates to avoid alienating so many customers.

This gym doesn’t offer much and is very pricey. I was charged for an annual membership as well as the first and last month’s payment. Essentially, they offer nothing—no towels, no sauna, and no pool for that price. I wouldn’t recommend this place. After reading reviews, I was surprised to see how many people are complaining about the same issues I experienced.

Like many reviews mentioned recently, in September they raised the monthly fee by almost $20 without notifying us, I only found out a few days ago when I checked my card balance. And they will make your cancellation process painful. I liked the location as I live nearby but now it's not worth it. Stay away if you're thinking about signing up.

Highly recommend reading the reviews on this gym before joining.
For a budget gym, this is a good deal given that they have plenty of equipment and it’s a clean space. However, recently the management decided to raise the monthly dues by $20 (now the minimum monthly dues are $100) without notifying its clients. Management claims that they reserve the right to do this because they had notified all members via mail & email. Neither my friends nor I were sent any mail/email. Beware of these scams when joining and expect this poor level of communication to continue.
Highly recommend looking into ProClub (for only $40 more you get a nicer gym, sauna, and steam room) OR Henry’s opening nearby.

This is one of those gyms from the 80s that make it as difficult as possible to end your membership. I ended my membership 1 day after my renewal date, and I'm on the hook for 59 more days somehow. Looking forward to when the FTC forces places like this to implement "click to cancel".
Additionally, they randomly significantly raised the price without written notice. Well, they said the written notice was "on their counter", which literally no one saw. Didn't get an email or anything until the day of.

The reason for my 1-star review post for PNW Fitness located in Capitol Hill is to hopefully help warn others around the unethical business practices happening around communicating rate increases, and the horrific experience I ran into when attempting to reach out to their corporate location. I've been a PWN Fitness member for almost 2 years now where I paid $66.14/month, which is still quite expensive for a gym that has NO amenities. Back on 9/24/2024, I happened to look at my credit card and noticed I was charged by PNW Fitness for $87.00 without any notice or explanation as to why they charged me higher than my standard rate. I looked through my entire email inbox to see if PNW emailed anything about upcoming rate increases prior to my card being charged, but I found nothing from them. Upon arriving to the gym the following day, I immediately spoke with the manager who verbally stated that no email was sent out but instead they were asked to place a 'rate increase' policy paper near the front desk to alert members. However, when walking into the gym which I go to about 3-4 times per week, no employee ever told me to refer to their piece of paper on the counter to be aware that they increased rates. I then noticed several Google reviews from others with this same experience where they claim something was sent out in August, but no one from Corporate can provide me with proof or a copy of this apparent notification that was supposedly sent in August. After taking up with management how disgusted I was that my rate was increased by over +$20 without ever telling me before charging my card, management immediately directed me to email corporate, which after I did, the person that responded to me refused to answer my questions around how I was notified, and refused to address my request for my last month to be refunded to me since I'll be canceling my account. Instead, corporate responded back to me on 10/14 stating they "proactively made a decision to cancel my membership, effective 10/24/2024" which I never asked to officially canceled, and still never answered my questions around how people were notified prior to September. Then after responding back asking why Im being treated like this and why I can no longer use the club after 10/24/2024 even though I paid for FIRST and LAST months charges at time of signup, which means I should be able to use my last month, but of course corporate responded back saying that they are unable to provide a refund and last month doesn't apply. After continuing to receive rude responses and no help from the club or corporate, I have no choice but to help warn others to stay away from this gym, as I've never experienced any company increasing rates behind customers backs without notifying, which shows a very shady business practice. And, no one will honor giving me my last month's of 66.14 refunded to me since I'm being told I can't access the club after 10/24, along with me wanting my difference refunded to me for September 2024 since I never authorized my card to be charged for $87.00. Nor does it say in my contract that they can legally do this. Very very shady and extremely disappointed with how bad this club has gotten.

If you're looking to join, go somewhere else.
All I can say is yikes. I've been going to this gym for a total of around 5 years. Like others have said, pretty expensive for basic service. I really liked going here but the real kicker has been the sudden price jump ($70 to $100, and they want to keep raising it by $20 each year...).
They said they communicated it... but many, including I, did not get the memo. I don't remember seeing the sign they said they posted anywhere, but in any case... not a good thing to rely on.
It's such a shame because they are about to lose so many people that I doubt their price raise tactic is going to be worth it... I'm sure it was just to satisfy investors/top dogs because the gym equipment and setup is definitely not what they are investing in...
PNW guys if you're reading this, you're making a huge mistake. This isn't going to go how you think it is...

I have been a member for three years. I don't care for companies that tell you they won't raise the price, to encourage you to sign up, and then raise it later on without even sending a notice. Signed up at $66.19/mo which is already high enough for a no-frills membership. It was just raised to $85.99/mo without me being notified.
I'll be charging back and filing a complaint, thanks. It's crazy for them to $$ with people's membership rates when they don't provide a lot of things like, say, towels. And their barbells are rarely cleaned and half of the already-lacking number of clips/clamps don't even fit them.
Edit: two important clarifications
1) I found out about the 30% increase to my monthly membership because they CHARGED that to me. I did not receive an email, call or letter notifying me of it prior
2) $66/mo was acceptable for a budget gym experience. It's not the nicest place, it's not the nicest equipment. You don't get frills like being provided towels to sweat on, or a big selection of free fitness classes. But the place works, and you can put it work there. NOT for $85.99/mo. A YMCA membership in Seattle is $91/mo and includes a whole slew of locations, classes and programs and pickup sports, POOLS, you name it. What the hell is PNW Fitness claiming they provide $85.99/mo of value with?

I liked it just fine before, a little expensive for what you get without amenities but it was worth the convenience to where I live. Today, without an email or letter saying rates were changing, I see a $97 charge on my credit card! If you're going to change rates you need to let people know when and how much so they can make the decision if it's worth staying and to budget accordingly. Unfortunately I have to leave for these sneaky tactics.

Overall my gym experience here has been positive. While the staff did pull the "current special, price will increase soon" sales tactic with me, overall the staff have been friendly and welcoming. It is quite pricey for the limited amenities but it's also the largest gym in the neighborhood. I am happy to pay a little more for a gym I can walk to. The gym is always clean. My only real complaint is the lack of certain equipment for the price of the membership. At the very least, please get a T-Bar Row Machine! This is usually a fairly standard piece of equipment found at LA/24hr Fitness. I was also surprised not to find a Freemotion Cable Cross that is usually fairly standard. Also, a standing calf machine! You can use a leg press but those are higher demand machines and often occupied. For the cost of the membership I would also expect some more specialized equipment like a Jacobs Ladder. Of the cable machines they do have, some of the attachments are torn or ripped. For the cost of the membership, this really shouldn't be the case. Still, overall I would recommend this gym if you live in the neighborhood!

I was previously a member here for over 8 years- for capitol hill it’s really the best commercial gym in the neighborhood. If you come during non peak hours it’s never too busy and there’s plenty of space to move around.
Some personal trainers have issues with you not dropping weight but not have any issues with them doing the same and also taking up 2-3 work stations… a bit cheeky in my book.
I had some issues with cancellations but the additional month was refunded to me after I caught the charge.

I've been working out with two friends who wanted to start lifting. They knew nothing so I offered to work out with them. They'd tag along and do my exercise routine with me for months.
After the winter holidays as we were leaving the club after our workout, we were stopped by a woman named Erin who said she worked in the back office. She said that a personal trainer on staff had accused us of using the gym for personal training. She then threatened to cancel our gym memberships if this did not stop.
I asked her to clarify what she meant by “personal training” because my friends and I workout together and have done so for months. She said that personal training was working out with coaching. I pressed for more clarification because I was still confused. She didn’t offer much more that was helpful except to say, “it’s pretty black and white.” She also called the fitness manager Dave "obnoxious." Talk about professionalism.
I'm disappointed that PNW Fitness would allow an employee to approach their paying customers in such an unprofessional manner. First, Erin did not cite any gym policy or refer to our membership agreement during the discussion.
Suspiciously, one of my friends was treated poorly by a trainer after he decided not to purchase personal training. As Erin couldn’t define the prohibited activity, I am inclined to believe that the complaint that started this was motivated by the trainer my friend decided not to hire.
Second, she did not provide any written documentation describing the alleged infraction(s).
So I reached out to Rafael, the club's manager of operations. At first he was helpful, and said he'd request a statement from the accusing trainer and discuss the incident with the personal training team. He also said that someone from their corporate office would reach out to me.
That was over a month and a half ago.
I have received no contact from anyone at PNW Fitness since.
I've reviewed the membership agreement and it's a complete joke. It says, "Personal Training. Member and/or Member’s guest will not perform or receive any personalized training with any other members or non-members."
With that vague language, anyone offering to spot a friend or suggest an exercise could be kicked out. Also, the member agreement prohibits cell phone usage on the gym floor and just about half of everyone there is on their phone all the time.
In the time since this incident, I've heard a trainer say the F-word loudly twice on the gym floor, I've seen a trainer in plainclothes clearly training their friend on the bench press, and I've seen multiple members teaching their friends exercises, which would also be in violation of the member agreement.
I do not recommend PNW Fitness because they choose if and when to enforce their rules. When a member complains about what they believe is unfair, no follow up.

NOT WORTH IT!
Deceptive claims from the sales rep, Richard Thomas, that there would be no charge for pausing my membership. Nothing mentioning a fee for pausing the membership in the contract so I took it at face value. I have since contacted customer service via email in writing asking them to answer for the deceptive practices and nothing.
TLDR:
Hidden ancillary fees that are not included in the contract. They will email saying that they have policies for fees charged but wont tell you until its time to bill you. Cancellation is a pain even when you follow the procedure and they add additional charges to cancel.
Update:
It has been over a month and despite their response on the review platform, they have not reached to resolve this situation. Do not recommend.

Most of the poor reviews here deal with the cancellation policy and the free trial. Make sure to read the fine print and ask questions during sign-up.
As far as the actual gym goes, it is great. This gym sits between the "low-end" options in Seattle such as 24-Hour Fitness, and the higher-end such as Pro Club. This place gets a thumbs up from me. I've been attending this gym for a few months. It's a bit pricey, but that's just the tradeoff of being in the middle of the city. For lovers of the big 4: as of now, they've got 3 flat benches, 4 squat racks, and usually 2-3 barbells around the squat racks to be used for deadlifts/cleans. You don't usually need to worry about these areas being full besides the rush hours of 7-8am and 5:30-7pm. Other than that, they've got the usual equipment you'd expect in a gym. The receptionists and trainers are all very nice and get to recognizing you rather quickly. I do wish it were open past 8, but I understand that safety/staffing is a concern there.

PNW's business practices are unethical at best, fraudulent at worst. And there are many pieces to the puzzle. 1, They advertise a non-existent free trial; 2, they minimize your concerns whenever money issues come up; 3, they make it difficult to cancel due to a hard-to-reach third party account management company. And the list goes on. If you ever have to deal with customer service, you'll find yourself feeling as if you're merely a dollar sign to these people. My summary review: Watch your back.

Decent sized gym but they do not keep up with equipment maintenance. Many machines have torn up leather. There’s also plenty of broken machines with signs suggesting maintenance is underway but they never get to the repairs. Bathrooms also have broken toilets and faucets that haven’t been replaced in over a year. They’ve reduced their hours to close at 9pm which makes the gym crowded. Little to no classes offered as well as no towels or any amenities. Only convenience is the location. I’d say with confidence that this gym is not worth the monthly fee. Also note that fire alarms go off at least once a week leading to the whole gym having to evacuate as the gym is connected to the grocery store below.

Terrible sign up and service. The gym is pretty pricey for the area, but the real reason to avoid is the scummy customer service. They make cancelling very complicated (and you are automatically charged for an additional month after cancel) and they do not honor what they advertise regarding sign ups. They won't let you try the free trial they advertise, so don't even bother showing up to try it out. Pricier as far as gyms go. Its pretty clear the owners value getting every last penny possible because 1) the dont have public wifi (the do have a private one for workers so this is a concious choice) and 2) theres a whole dance room that is also not for public use because again the owners dont want to let people use it. For the price they make you pay, both these should be accessible yet here we are.
Also no scales in the locker rooms but a broken one is available on the other side of the gym. In case your wondering what your weight is with like a 20lb error range.

Beware of scam. MAKER SURE TO ASK TO VIEW THE CONTRACT BEFORE SIGNING ANYTHING! Salesman would hide the contract from you and only show you where to sign. The salesman would fail to mention about an anual fee. When asked about why I have to pay for the last month fee in advance, the salesman lied to me saying it's a deposit and you get it back when you cancel. Instead, when you cancel on time (5 business days before the bill is due), they would not give your last month payment back but give you an extra month of access to the gym. So I emailed in June. Whoever working on cancelling mistaken my account as someone else's and cancelled that account. I have to email so many times to explain. They ask for my bank statements to prove that they charged me. Meantime they kept charging my card for three months. I’m about to be charged for October and still trying to get this straight. In response to the owner reply. The very first thing I told your employees was I was visiting and none of them informed me about the Groupon deal applies to local residents only. They simply processed it and told me it’s a one time payment with no reoccurring charges, while in fact I got charged for a second month without any notice.
Stop blaming the customers when you do not clearly state rules and give FALSE informations. If your business tells customer one thing and does another that is called a SCAM.

I have to say that I really appreciated the gym and found everyone really responsive. It’s by far the best gym I found for people into rights and really well equipped with new equipment. There’s no towel service which would be nice, but not a deal breaker
Even cancelling my membership due to a move was easy and handled THE SAME DAY. It’s a family run business and really reasonably priced. Definitely check them out.

It's a decent gym and sometimes gets busy. It's in an interesting location and also has in interesting layout. Worked out here with Trevor as a personal trainer for a couple months because I was in town for work. Really good trainer and I like his style.
A couple times I came here on my own I noticed it was quite busy and every now and then the front desk would have some admin/technical difficulties with my check in (kinda annoying but I'm sure it wasn't their fault). However, the other side of the gym was always nice and pretty empty. I didn't like to stick to the machines anyways.

Friendly staff, They have contactless entry and keep the equipment very clean at the facility. Currently, they are maintaining workouts to 75 minutes due to COVID restrictions and require a mask at all times inside the gym until the state mandate makes any changes.
I will update my review again when things open back up. 😊

I really like the atmosphere and community that they cultivate. It's both a welcoming environment, where you can get to know your neighbor, and make friends who can turn into workout buddies.

I've been a member at PNW Fitness and love this gym. The pricing is straightforward and quite cheap, especially for such a large gym in Capitol Hill. There's all manner of equipment to suit any training style, and pre-covid, there was a huge variety of group training classes (spinning, pilates, Les Mills) included for free with the membership and taught by enthusiastic instructors. The gym is clean, well ventilated, rarely crowded, and well maintained, and the staff is friendly and professional.
There's also access to excellent personal trainers. I work with Brandon, which has been a great experience. He's extremely knowledgeable and encouraging, listens to my training goals, and builds fun and challenging workouts to push me towards those goals. He carefully watches my form on every exercise and adjusts my workout if anything feels off, all to make sure I don't get injured. Training with Brandon is taking my fitness to a new level, and I would highly recommend working with him.

Deeply unhappy with shady business practices. They were not straightforward with all the fees when we started up. I am actively upset with how they stuck a couple of months of fees in the Covid situation. They did not remove the problematic charges after I contacted then. I love the gym, not the management. If you don't care about money, it won't be an issue for you.

This gym is run by con artists. They made me drop >$200 for a "free first time visit". They said I'd get a refund if I cancelled within 2 days. I cancelled the next day. I had to call twice a week for 3 MONTHS before I finally arm wrestled the slimy sales reps to get my $250 money back. They ought to owe me interest. Worst gym. Worst service. Stay away. They will try to rob you.

I've been coming to this gym for roughly five years, and I've had a great time. My locked-in rate from back then has been honored with no upcharges, my personal trainers have been fantastic (I've had a few of them over the years), and the Monday-Friday opener is the sunshine that perks me up for my 5:30am workouts. Since I joined I put on over 100lbs and kept my bodyfat percentage less than 20%, and I must say it's been quite the journey. I'll be sad to leave PNW, but I leave with knowledge of how to keep myself fit in the future.

While the facility is nice, their sales practice leaves a lot to be desired. I walked in a few weeks ago ready to work out and asked to sign up but instead ended up leaving feeling really frustrated and annoyed. As soon as I sat with the service rep, I was informed that he couldn't tell me what the "official" monthly rate was because the system has not yet updated for the day (??) but that it changes every day (???) and would most likely go up if I waited. There is a classic sales technique where you create a false sense of urgency in order to close a deal. I laughed out loud when he told me this story because the facade was so painfully obvious.
Instead of furnishing me with a printed list of what services are available and what the rates were, he started madly scribbling on a blank piece of paper. The first thing he wrote was a $259 registration fee and a $89 monthly fee (with 1st & last month required), then wrote under that $59 registration and $69 respectively. I got confused and asked why one was so much higher, and he said the first set of prices were their "normal" rates but that they were running a "special" if I signed up today. I laughed out loud yet again and started to wonder whether I had accidently walked into a used car dealership.
I want to be charitable but everything from that encounter indicates they think their customer base is a bunch of imbeciles. Instead of claiming that your system has not updated with the monthly rate, why not just be honest? Instead of claiming your sign-up fee is "normally" $259 (who would actually pay this??), why not just be honest about what the price actually is? As noted in other reviews, they also tack on a $65 "annual fee" that triggers 35 days after you first sign-up; and this is in addition to the registration fee. Why is there an additional annual fee in addition to the monthly fee and registration fee? No idea, but it's suspicious that the "annual" fee triggers so early on in the enrollment period instead of logically at the end of a year. My (uncharitable) guess is that they want to milk customers who cancel for as much money as possible.
I can appreciate how difficult it must be to profitably run such a large gym, but I can't tolerate how obfuscating and patronizing their sales approach is. I showed up to their location in workout clothes ready to sign up if only they didn't pull this blatantly sleazy sales approach.
I would recommend a place like the YMCA instead. Not only is their pricing transparent (no sign-up fee, no "annual fee", etc) but they also offer reduced rate if your income qualifies.
Edit 1/21/20: I reached out to the owner below a while ago and emailed with the director of admin services. It was a weird exchange because they kept repeating that my experience was not representative of their company, but then simultaneously provided a long explanation justifying their pricing structure. Very confusing. None of my observations were specifically refuted so it appears that the sales rep was indeed following company protocol. They offered me a two week trial which was also weird because none of my issues had anything to do with the facility but rather their sales practices. They gave no indication of how they would change the latter.

I'm not an avid gym 'goer' last time I joined a gym was almost 10 yrs ago and it happened to be this gym. I decided it was time again so I went back to PNW and joined 4 weeks ago. Dave Frisbee assessed me (by coincidence he also did the last time). I signed up for personal training as I have a lot of ground to cover and am >50 so want to be careful. Dave is also my trainer and he has built my trust and I feel confident following his guidance.
For me, the membership desk was courteous and efficient, Dave got right back to me, and I have been 5 days a week for a month and appreciated the friendly staff, clean environment and equipment in good operation.

Solid place to lift, reasonable prices. Biggest downside is in the main weight room, the music is absolutely BLASTING. 95% of people wear their personal earbuds to the gym, and the gym music's volume makes it so no matter how high you turn up your earbuds, you will hear the repetitive top-50 soundtrack coming through over your music. Really distracting.

Came to this gym twice. Each time I was given a different quote with a ridiculously high monthly payment. I decided to instead use a Groupon for just the one month I'll be visiting Seattle and the sales representative says I can't redeem it. He instead quoted I pay a ridiculous 125$ a month to access the gym. This place is totally not worth anything more than 50$ a month. Standard equipments and doesn't even come with a locker for the price!. The previous two sales representatives said nothing about being not able to use a Groupon! I would never recommend to a friend.

The gym itself is average, having most weightlifting equipment you need for a decent workout. However its trainers are by far the rudest trainers of any gym I have been too. They move your equipment while you're working out, they will hog mutiple equipments at once, and are downright abrasive. Somehow they and the gym managment doesn't realize the people that work out there are paying costumers. Recently they have also started designating certain areas of the gym for the trainers during peak hours (before and after) work! On top of that they don't do a good job of keeping the weights organized - they can get a bit messy. I have put up with some of this stuff because of the conveniant location, but will be canceling my membership in about a month because of how badly its run.

Great gym in very accessible location. The extensive equipment collection is all newish and classes are included in membership. My favorites are GRIT, Spin, BodyPump and BodyCombat. The front staff and class instructors are all very friendly. It can get busy at peak times, specifically Monday evenings, but it's never affected my ability to complete my planned workout. Pricing is very reasonable. My only critiques are the lack of WiFi, no towel service and bench wipe containers are empty more often than available. Highly recommend if you're serious about fitness.

Buyer beware - Surprise Annual Fee.
One star because the sales man lied to me. I'm only been going here a week. I signed up for a $29 sign up, $59 per month, with a minimum of first and last. I asked the sales guy. Is that all I'm paying, so long as I cancel a month in advance I'm not going to see any surprises?
"Nope, just cancel by the 28th of the month before" And then he hurried me through the paperwork.
Surprise! Annual Fee of $55
Response to owner:
You are correct, I did sign your agreement. I read it later to find out you got me on the hook for $55 a year. You got me!
But maybe these agreements shouldn't be primarily on a computer that faces the salesman, where he enters in most of user's data, scrolls to the bottom of the agreement page, and then just hands the user a mouse to sign with, and lies right to a user's face when asked about other gym fees.

-This gym cares far more about your wallet than your health, proven by the fact that it advertises skin tanning discounts, sells a large amount of supplements, and has a huge and confusing pricing structure.
-The pricing structure for a normal signup is absurd. Upon signup you need to pay first and last months membership, agree to the yearly membership fee, plus there’s another large fee I’m forgetting.
-Towels are not provided, which is a ripoff based on the high total yearly cost of this gym
-There are only 4 Olympic lifting racks in this insanely busy gym. Good luck using them during peak hours.
-As far as I know, there’s only one of these in Seattle, so it’s not like a Gold’s where you can use it all over the place.
-The only pull-up bar I’ve found is made of the most slippery material I’ve ever used
Only go here if you have no other options!

Predatory...
It feels like getting a mortgage in 2007 in here when signing up. They charge first and last as if it's rent. Uhh why do I have to pay last? And they try and try to get you to sign up for a full year, instead of month by month, after you already tell them twice you want monthly ONLY.
These guys are rude and kind of aggressive. Definitely the worst gym I've been a member of, and I only am a member because its the only decent gym in the area. Please will someone open a different gym!
They wouldn't let my friend use her groupon for a month of memberhsip because she had already used a 7 day free trial they offer to all new people... uh okay, so lets sign her up then.
Great, sign here, done. Get home, open email, only then do we learn there is a 55 dollar annual fee charged in December (its almost November now). So we paid 185 dollars just to get her in the door, (yea, theres a 100 dollar starting fee too), and not until later do we find there is even another fee. So all in all, by the time December comes, she will have to pay over 300 dollars. For 2 months of membership.
And they don't even have their employees walking around fixing things. The gym is in disarray, the plate-weights are never racked correctly.
I'm going to scream at them next time I go in to work out -- an annual fee?? What does that even mean. Screw these losers. They lied to my face, after I was already a paying member for months and wanted to get my friend signed up.
Buyer beware here.

I just recently signed up with this gym and it's been more or less pretty positive. The members have been pretty friendly, the staff is good, and the facility/equipment is very nice and new.
My only real complaint is just how PACKED this place is, don't plan on coming here right after work if you want to get out in a decent amount of time. I don't like spending more than 45 minutes to an hour in a gym, but I find myself having to wait to do just about anything other than run on a treadmill.
I suspect this has something to do with them losing their downtown location. I'm going to give it another month or two, but it's got me considering going to a different gym.
Please tell me there are plans to open a new location in the near future!

Let me say, that I have gone to many gyms.... they all have there pros and cons. Overall for the price that I pay, I'm happy with Golds. They just did big expansion, which is great, but the roots of the gym, free weights and cardio is in the same condensed small part. Every time I go in, there are few people in the new parts which have weight machines, and crossfit equipment. and everyone is packed into the original small 2 story part of the gym. They should cater more to the cliental that go to this gym. Cap Hill is a very gay friendly neighborhood, and gay men are a very fit bunch. Thus the free weights are very crowded, in the small space that it's in. So I wish the layout was better suited to the crowds. Move the free weights to the much larger new part. and put the crossfit gym in the old part.

Chalk isn't allowed even though they said it was when I joined. Equipment is unsafe - poor or no knurling on bars, not enough space to do exercises safely, members don't understand gym etiquette or that walking too close to someone doing a lift can be dangerous. Bumper plates were promised for 3 years before they were finally purchased and are now useless since dropping weights isn't allowed anyways. The wait for squat racks and benches is always long.

Great gym with nice machines...until you try to cancel your membership.
In January I had a small skiing accident and my doctor told me no gym for six months. Notice the date of this post...yeah, IT'S JUNE. Guess who is still trying to stop the emails and bills?
Just like many gym chains, Gold's Gym makes money by making cancelling a membership ridiculously, infuriatingly complicated. The staff have no power, the ownership/management is mostly absent and, when present, they have failed as promised to stop the billing and harassment.
WE HAD TO CHANGE BANKS BECAUSE WE COULDN'T GET THEM TO STOP CHARGING US. I showed up after with the canceled debit card and told them they could keep it now. I've tried everything including calling the "company" that "manages their membership." I've been polite. I've made a scene. I've threatened a bad review which I am now proudly delivering.

Even though it was updated enough for them to take $80 A MONTH out my account ! Then after that they charged me $45 dollars in the middle of the month for "equipment fees" . I was looking for a gym near by so I stopped bye, two minutes later the manager showed me around the facility, put me through a workout, and then got me started on a really great price. I was amazed truly, they had machines I have never even seen before, and I've been working out at gyms since I was thirteen! New cardio equipment all with Touch Screen TV's that I could connect my IPod too, an amazing outside area where I can sprint in the sun or get some space in one of their private studios. I'm gonna hit up my friends that go to other gyms to come here

Gold's Gym is amongst a selective list of Capitol Hill's iconic neighborhood establishments, such as Dick's, The Laughing Buddha and Roy Street Coffee. Capitol Hill is a lively, vivacious block composed of diversified cultures and individuals; if you love working out, Gold's Gym is synonymous with the neighborhood it occupies.
Located right above QFC on Broadway and E Harrison (street for parking), Gold's staff is organically pleasant and positive. The first things to catch your eye may be the facility's cleanliness, volume of equipment, and seemingly endless space; yet, what sold me was the content and strength of the good vibes and energy I felt at the gym.
I haven't been a member long, for which reason I cannot speak on behalf of those who have had poor experiences. I've never had a problem with billing; even if I did, the club itself surpasses minor membership discrepancies and human mistake. I love to work out, and every member I've met (including the gorgeous IFBB Pro Stephanie Billings, to drop a name) has the same upbeat, positive attitude towards fitness and health as I do. Come join us :)

I was surprised by all the negative reviews here. I've been a member for ~2.5 years. It's super close to where I live, so that's why I joined. It's not a fancy gym, but they have free classes and a good amount of equipment, so it works fine.
I also have canceled my membership and re-joined. The cancellation process is kind of annoying since you do have to contact another source. I think I called them? Or maybe I sent a letter. In any case, it does take 30 days to cancel. And you need to do it within the first 10 days of the month or something like that. If you ask about canceling prior to needing to do it and plan accordingly it's not bad though. Sorry for those of you who have had bad experiences with this. :/

Don't ever go here! I'm not usually into writing bad reviews even for crappy services but this case is exceptional. They have a 3 day grace period in which you can cancel your membership ( WA state law ) which they wouldn't honor inspite of my sending all the documents. And now I've been charged for additional months and have to re-send all the documents. I've heard of similar horror stories from other people too. Horrible service.
