Planet Fitness is a decent gym to get a lift for a beginner to intermediate lifter. The dumbbells only go up to 75 and there are no barbells. But they do have 7 or 8 smith machines. You can get a decent back/pull day but push and leg days will be lacking. It's good if you're going for just a cardio session though. There's plenty cardio machines there and the amenities are nice. They do need to oil the rods on the machines though. Some of the cables are scraping and that's only going to last for so long. Staff is nice it's usually not too crowded. Good for a Planet Fitness.

Most of the staff is great. However, every time I accidentally glance in the personal trainers direction she gives me a dirty look. I don't come here often. They have new staff members. The lady working the one day I went in told me to leave my electric stand-on scooter outside. I told her no that it would get stolen. She then got an attitude and said it was against policy. I called customer service and....IT IS NOT AGAINST POLICY. I brought it in and made sure it was folded down and not in the way of others in the locker room. Not one person complained the entire hour I was there. The other gyms don't even care if I bring it in. As long as I am not riding it inside the building they are cool.
19th Street location needs to bring back the people that used to work there that didn't lie about policies.

This place has gotten me through some really rough, tragic times. The machinery is great, the showers are great, and the air is always the right temperature. The only flaw would be the dress code. There shouldn't be, for Planet Fitness in general. We honestly should be able to workout in full suits of armor if we wanted to, because that means freedom. I actually got kicked out by some nerd one time for wearing my flip flops. Ridiculous! Other than that, very fun facility to bring family/friends.

I don’t know why this place is a 4.3. Should be as close to five as possible. Staff are knowledgeable, clean and well mannered. I’ve always felt comfortable here and educated. Environment is really clean. Never once had that alarm go off , which is great because it can make people feel bad. I love it here, open and accepting and I keep coming back.

Of all the gyms I've belonged to (West Pac, Balleys, Curves, Figures and LA Fitness) none of them compare to Planet Fitness. The staff are really nice and truly non judgemental (one girl staff member at Balleys told me I was obese and that's back when I was slim. I asked her what do you call people that are fat and she said, morbidly obese🙄)
And they're so clean. They have cleaning stations throughout and everyone has to wipe down their equipment after they use it. Also, they don't allow guys to slam down their weights or do any loud grunting. One time at LA Fitness a guy was grunting so loud that a lady said, I think someone is having a baby😛
My only complaint is with the members that are messing with their phones while hogging a machine. Almost every time I go there I have to ask them how many sets do they have left and then they’ll finally get off their phones. 🙄

I love using the 30 minute express area, but even though there are signs saying "monitored regularly by staff" I have NEVER seen someone come and check if people are misusing the area and hogging machines. It makes it hard to do your circuit if someone's camped out on the machine you need. I even tell the front desk I'm going to use the 30 minute area so they can monitor it (which is what they've told me to do) and I've done that the last three times and someone has come to check ZERO times. Super annoying! Please monitor the 30 minute express area!!

Fraudulent Bank Charges!!! The only way to open a membership is using ACH debit through a checking account..... I set up my account months ago with a secondary checking account that only has transactions for this gym coming out of it...... It's been only a couple months now and there has already been $110 fraudulent ACH charge that came out of my account. Apparently they sell your information to hackers.

The lady who worked the morning shift on March 1st 2025 was incredibly rude. So monotoned and just on her phone when asking for help. This gym has good employees but it’s always an issue with her when I or my friends try to ask for simple help. Please speak with her so she isn’t rude to other customers.

Great facility, always clean! Only reason i give 3 stars is because i initially got the black card, but didn’t use the amenities enough to make it worth it. So, i downgraded and the guy in the black shirt was somewhat condescending or irritated that i wanted to downgrade. He often just stares at me now without greeting me or anything, no more smile. it’s made me slightly uncomfortable now when I come to workout but i don’t let it ruin my time here.

Really nice gym to go get a good workout in. Prices are reasonable and there's not a lot of huge bodybuilders running around. Their whole point is to actually make it comfortable for anybody who wants to come in and work out no matter if it's your first time or your hundredth time or your thousandth time. Their prices are very good. If you sign up for what they call their black card you also get access to all of the different massage areas and tanning and red light therapy. Those things alone are worth the price

The girl working today 8/3 at 5:30pm either needs a class in customer service or simply shouldn’t be put at the desk alone if she can’t handle multi tasking. There’s was maybe 15 people total in the whole entire gym, and nobody else at the desk when I signed in to tan. She asked me how much time, gave me a room number, I confirmed, went into the room and it did not start. There I was naked and already applied my lotion 10 mins wondering what’s going on - I called the front desk number not once but 4 times with no answer. Nor did she come knock and tell me what was wrong. I had to have my teenage son go to the front desk to awkwardly ask her why the booth isn’t starting. Just to be told it hadn’t been 24 hours since my last tan. Well, if she had actually assigned me a bed and looked at the screen she would have seen this and told me. I came out and saw her just on her phone at the counter and I asked why she wouldn’t call me or knock on the door or something - I was greeted with immediate attitude and was told she was helping someone else. Well reality is, if you helped someone first and didn’t actually give them the service you were supposed to - you should be asking them to hold a moment, not just leave me in there. And again, why you still didn’t come back to check and tell me? “I’m the only one here.” You knew I called and your not doing anything right now, why not call me back? Any effort would have been acceptable. Also, next time, ask your gym members to physically show you their eyewear - which didn’t happen with me, that’s a first at this location and I’m quite surprised.

Worst locker room ever. I was unable to find a shower with both a shower head and towel hooks. Even the handicapped shower had a broken hanger for the shower head.
The shower I settled for, because it was the only one with benches or any place to leave my towel while I showered, had 6" of standing water in it before I could finish forcing me to rush my shower.
The was mold on the walls and shower curtain. This wasn't the kind of filth that results from a bad shift not doing their job. This is the result of months of neglect. The fact that a manager hasn't even stepped in and seen how bad it is speaks volumes.
Did I mention the mystery brown goo in the corner of one of the bathrooms hidden under some dirty clothes.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. It’s not about the overall club experience but the management. The general manager in particular. He is of no help and neither is his little side kick (alex I think is her name) they are two peas in pod and are of zero help. They were also extremely rude. I wanted to sign up and they could not answer any of my questions correctly. I got a wonderful tour though from the PROPER assistant manager (Jaiden). She was amazing. I also could tell that the overall work environment is not well just by looking at the staffs mood there. They’re clearly not taken care of. Why would I want to workout in a place that doesn’t care about its staff. The connection with the staff is what makes the gym experience. Anyways i definitely do not recommend this location.

Great and knowledgeable staff able to assest with basic information on equipment and products. Warm and welcoming environment as you walk in until the time you walk out. Very well maintained facility that I go to, all equipment is well maintained to include redlight therapy, tanning bed/booth, hydro massage area and deep tissue chairs. The other perk is my wife and I are able to bring our older kids in and they enjoy being able to work out with us.

I like that I can find anything needed for my workout whether that is for lifting weights or doing cardio as they have such a variety of things. It’s also low monthly costs. The gym is always clean, including the bathrooms. But the biggest reason I like the Tacoma/University Place location is it has some of the nicest staff you will have meet. They greet you when you come, say bye when you leave, and help you whenever it’s needed.

The staff here does a great job at keeping the space tidy, answering questions, engaging with customers as necessary and generally creating a positive atmosphere. I enjoy going there regularly, and if this location makes sense for you, I highly recommend it.

Keep in mind, its a "big box gym" that is very affordable, so you aren't getting a lot of the premium amenities you might from a smaller, more intimate setting, but if you just want to throw on your headphones and workout for 45 minutes, this is a great spot.

My experience was decent. I signed up for the black card membership, which is worth the money. The gym was busy, but it was a busy time of day... the staff was friendly, but they mainly just leaned on the counters, allowing their friends to hang around ogling and weirding out customers. The sign-in app wasn't exactly user-friendly, and it took a while just to sign up and start working out. That being said, the equipment and gym were neat and clean, and the hydro massage bed was awesome.

We cancelled our membership before what is labeled as the "renewal date" on their app, only to be told they already charged us for next month. Since they require a direct link to your banking account (to bypass credit and debit cards) you can't do anything about it retrospectively. Planet Fitness is a franchise so there is no central authority to contact for resolution, you are stuck at the whim of whatever franchise owner you signed up with (this owner says too bad so sad).

They don't warn you when you sign up, we had our membership for 3 weeks just to use the showers (never touched any equipment) and now we are stuck paying an extra $28 due to their fine print. Just a classic subscription scam to make it hard to unsubscribe, $28 may seem small but if they are doing this to every member that's $448,000,000 they will eventually leech from their customers. Boo you suck! Showers weren't even that clean 🤢
