I think one of the good things about Rain City Fit is the location. You finish a workout and you’re literally steps away from great coffee, salads, and everything else on the Hill. The people who go there are also the same people I see out in the neighborhood, so it genuinely feels like a community space.
The gym has a lot of rooms, and some of the extra ones do feel like they were added later. Honestly, I don’t mind it. It gives the place a bit of a grunge, DIY vibe that fits Seattle. If stairs are difficult for you, the upstairs area might be harder to access, but there are plenty of machines throughout the gym.
My only real issue is that some machines are older, and a couple have even broken while I was using them. The upside is that management is responsive to feedback and does replace things as they wear out.
Overall, the community aspect is what sells this gym for me. They’re also very engaged with local culture and causes, though usually only once an issue starts trending on social media. A new statement on the wall here, a strategic playlist choice there… the kind that shows up after a major news event or backlash. It’s that classic, slightly performative Seattle activism: always on time, but never early.

General opinions:
Fantastic fitness facility. No frills, non-corporate, community driven, and the entity is an amazing ally for marginalized communities-local and otherwise. There are multiple spaces of the same designation for various fitness needs and preferred paces. The app displays the level of activity at the facility, allowing you to plan your exercises sessions accordingly.
Personal anecdote:
In September of 2025, I went to replace my single's membership with a couple's membership and accidentally created an entirely new membership, but didn't catch what I did until a month later. Ben promptly rectified the entire situation with just one email and refunded my misallocated payments.
Conclusion:
I can't recommend this gym enough for your standard fitness needs if you aren't looking for aquatic or spa amenities. The hours are amazing and very accommodating. Ownership clearly cares about their clientele. I'm frustrated with myself for waiting almost a year between switching from my previous facility to this one.

Best gym I've ever been to! My favorite things about this gym are: there are no mirrors, it's dog friendly, the pups cheer you up when you don't PR on a set, and it's the most welcoming gym community I've experienced in the greater Seattle area. Highly recommend! If you're anything like me, you'll join, eventually have to move away, and constantly be thinking about how much you miss Rain City Fit!

If every gym was like this, I’d never go anywhere else!
We were visiting from the UK and found this gym to be absolutely brilliant. The staff were really considerate and welcoming, and the whole place has such an inclusive, friendly vibe.
The setup is fantastic — multiple rooms, on different levels, loads of equipment (including free weights everywhere), and a layout that feels spacious and relaxed rather than the usual commercial “rows of mirrors” style. Even when it got busy, there was always plenty of choice.
Extra touches like fresh towels, refill stations, and long opening hours with secure access make it even better. Honestly, if every gym was like this, the big chains wouldn’t stand a chance!

Amazing environment and absolutely amazing selection of equipment, there's something for everyone here. Being able to work out as a visibly queer woman without being stared at constantly is amazing. The only (mildly) annoying thing about this gym is they only have 2 45 ib plates per deadlift platform, but other then that little detail this gym is truelly amazing. I wish I could give more than five stars.

My favorite gym of all time!! Plants and lights and disco balls and also all the machines you’d ever need. They somehow keep breaking down walls and adding new rooms too so it’s also kind of a fun maze. You never know what you’ll find. Good community and responsive management when you need something.

Absolutely incredible gym. I like to lift, and am also a member at RCF barbell club, and came to RCF yesterday for the first time, had a great workout just on the main floor, and came back again today, and realized there was a second floor so I went out to check it out...
Yeah. I just fully explored this gym and it is absolutely mind-boggling. I thought it was just one level, but it is like three or four full levels and it just keeps going on and on and on and on and on---it gets more and more magical and creative and fabulous the higher up you go. It is absolutely insane. It's like the gym queer dreams are made of, and it has so much equipment it's hard to imagine how the building manages to hold it all. There's even a hair salon and a tattoo parlor tucked away upstairs, an entire booty building room, a secret passage way with glowing patio lights strung from the ceiling to dazzle you while doing hip thrusts. It feels like the Louvre in Paris: wonders around every corner, and so vast you can never see all of it.

I’ve been going to this gym for the past few years, and it’s been a great experience. It was always easy to get to and get in. I didn’t interact much with the staff, but the they always seemed friendly and welcoming whenever I saw them. They have some free onions and potatoes once and I took some home.
The gym itself is spacious, spread out over three floors with a great amount of equipment. There are showers available if you need them, though I lived nearby so I didn’t use them often.
I recently moved out of the area and had to cancel my membership. The cancellation process was super easy, and they were kind enough to wish me well. Definitely recommend this gym if you're looking for a solid place to work out.

If I lived near this neighborhood, I would join this gym. I attended my first-ever lifting competition here yesterday and the community was incredible. Chefs kiss to both the woman presenting, whom I think organized everything, for her positivity and encouragement while mc’ing. Seriously, well done. And to the DJ, who kept the energy level high and made me wish the gym would turn into a rave post competition. The diversity of lifters was fantastic. I was there to watch a friend of a friend who had given birth less than 10 months ago, is still breast feeding and incredibly could deadlift over 370 pounds. So inspiring. There were first-time competitors, who only made it to the platform with their friends’ encouragement, smashing their goals, to more experienced lifters lifting 3x their body weight. If you are interested in lifting, it really is for everyone. The diversity of bodies and strength was so inspiring. This gym has a great vibe, solid equipment and great natural lighting (a plus for me). Thanks to the gym for hosting this event.

TLDR: Rain City Fit and Kirt are simply the best. 🙌
Love this gym! It's a great space that is deceptively large, with way more rooms and equipment than you would expect from the outside or a Capitol Hill gym. The vibes are fantastic—great energy, friendly people, and reasonable pricing. It doesn't have that weird sterile corporate feel.
Even with all that, the best part of this gym for us has been finding Kirt (New Growth Fitness) from their list of personal trainers. We’ve been doing couples sessions with him since last fall. My partner initially was absolutely not interested. He didn’t want to spend the money and didn’t see the value. Walking out of our first session he said “wow, I can’t imagine how different my experience with working out would be if I had a coach like that growing up.”
Kirt’s expertise has been displayed as he’s helped my partner work through areas of pain/discomfort. He’s fun, positive, motivating and somehow has these couch potatoes actually pushing themselves because we want to! He’s changed the way we see working out and we’re so grateful we found him.
I wholeheartedly recommend Rain City Fit and especially Kirt. 🏋🏻♂️💪🌧️

Best gym in town! Such a welcoming vibe no matter what you look like, identify as, or your level of fitness. As a queer person that didn't care a lick about gyms before coming here, I can't recommend it enough for people who have felt excluded or put off from gyms in the past. Everything from the charity events, to the lack of mirrors, to the deep sense of community RCF exemplifies what gyms can and should be!

I have never felt so humiliated for trying to make a healthy change in my life. I tried to sign up for the Rain City Fit barbell club and after an in-person tour I was turned away, I think because I didn't look fit enough.
If you are anxious about re-joining a gym after some time away, or worried that others will judge you, please look for another gym than this one. I had to psych myself up just to go, thinking this would be my first workout back, and instead I paid for parking, they wasted my time, and then they shamed me and sent me home. I was so embarrassed.
I am posting this on the RCF barbel club page as well, because they are the same organization.

I’ve been a member at RCF for about a year, and it’s by far the best gym I’ve found in Capitol Hill. Their membership fee is more than fair, and there’s no $150+ initiation fees like other gyms.
They have every piece of equipment you could ever want or need, and three floors of space. I very rarely have to wait to use equipment, even at peak hours. You won’t find any saunas or pools or tanning beds; but you will find plenty of squat racks, barbells, free weights, and machines of all kinds.
Their staff is also fantastic. Everyone I’ve met has been amazing, especially the owner Ben. He’s quick to respond to signup requests, questions, membership freezes, etc.
If you’re looking for a solid gym, RCF is the best bang for your buck I’ve found.

I truly love RCF and look forward to my workouts and being in the space. Which is something I nevereverever thought I would say. I always felt intimidated by gyms and working out, and any attempts I made to start a gym practice fell flat over the years. In April I decided to take advantage of their sliding scale personal training, thinking I would go a few times and probably quit again. 7 months later and I'm still working with Roxy 2x a week, and going on my own another 2- all because RCF makes me feel soo comfortable and is truly a third space.
I love how queer it is, I love how hard they support local mutual aid as well as their vocal support of Palestine, I love that they provide test strips, I love how giant it is and how each area has a different vibe (I always describe it as if a punkhouse was a gym- complete with a makeshift tattoo loft and hair salon), I love how many windows it has, I love how I rarely have to wait for a machine or rack, and how un-broey it is. Everyone either minds their business or is actively friendly. Sometimes there's free cookies or like... potatoes.
Also it is CLEAN. I see someone vacuuming or mopping almost every single time I go. And it feels like it!
My personal dreams for RCF are a loungey chill area, a bevvy fridge and taking over more rooms in the building for offering group classes.

I overall have a positive impression of the gym.
Equipment - spread out over two floors in multiple rooms. There are multiple rogue squat racks, hammer strength leg press, inspire cable machine on first floor (among several things). The second floor contains a set of cybex machines (see site for full list) and additional racks. Dumbbells on both levels. Standard cardio mix of treadmills and other equipment. I have cardio at home, so I didn't notice this too well.
Spacing - not crowded, ample space between equipment.
Plates - both rogue bumpers and steel plates.
Owner - very kind and responsive to emails when I was trying to learn about membership options, equipment present, etc.
Location - central in the Pike / Pine corridor.
Clients - respectful. I noticed none of the usual "gymbro" attitudes. In fact, when someone dropped weight stack and it slammed, I heard someone say "sorry" aloud. Members cleaned equipment before and after use.
Bonus - locally owned business!
Update to review on June 20, 2022. The owners continue to invest in the gym and the community! The second level has additional racks being setup and new leg machines!
Update October 2024 - additional expansion on the second level, with a marked room for low weight and newer users.

This gym is located at a prime spot in Capitol Hill. It has a great community and it is committed to creating a safe space for queer people. They often have fundraising events where you can participate, meet people and feel part of a greater community.
This said, the gym itself is very outdated and sometimes it feels like working out inside a storage or your parent’s garage. The mirrors are broken, the machines are falling apart, the heater is non existent, and the treadmills barely work. If you run on them, sometimes they stop and you lose your balance. This would all be okay if this wasn’t a gym with one of the highest monthly payments around the neighborhood, but like I said, you’re probably paying that much for the safe space, not the gym quality.

Easily the best gym in the city. The equipment is amazing and the best I have ever used. There is a huge variety of machines, my favorite being the pendulum squat, so any workout you could possibly want to do is available. Plus, all of the equipment is kept in good shape and is smooth to use. It's culture is also outstanding. As a gym bro myself, I've found it easy to get sick of the macho culture that many gyms have. RCF is breath of fresh air as I can be a meathead without being surrounded by other unsavory aspects of stereotypical gym culture. Put that all together with a price that is unbeatable and being open 20 hours a day, RCF is a pretty great gym.

This gym has a lot of weights, squat racks, and deadlift platforms and I really like the little rooms and upstairs area and the old building; it's really nice. However, there's a trickle of weird vibe here, like really political and something. I don't know what it is but it's just there and it makes me a little uncomfortable. This vibe is also probably responsible for lack of any mirrors whatsoever in the entire gym. I like mirrors in gym, it helps me improve my posture and it looks cool.

Another gym with zero regard for safety.
There are dogs everywhere in this gym. I had a dog walk under me once when benching near my one rep max. That's about as dangerous as it can possibly get.
Some people have a fear of dogs too, no regard for these people either. And those that are allergic.
I hope the owner reads this and realizes the legal consequences they will face when an accident inevitably happens.
In the mean time, I will stay vigilant and will just have to confront any dog owners putting my safety at risk.
Edit: Ok, dog thing aside, this gym is the best gym I've ever been to. There's a crazy amount of free weight equipment. You rarely have to wait for anything to open up.

I’m sharing this after had gone to this gym for some time. I recently had to move to Spokane for grad school, and let me tell you how much I miss this gym compared to all the options here. Nothing compares. Once you leave RCF and go elsewhere, you’ll find that nothing lives up to the standard they leave you with. Capitol Hill is so lucky to have RCF.

Eclectic gym with the best vibes and people honestly. Everyone is super kind. Bring no hate here. The machines are all mismatched, and sometimes need maintenance, but they're very on top of things and you'll find everything you need - it might just be in one of many expansion rooms (and this is a positive thing)

This gym is absolutely great. It's perfectly located, cheap, clean, great equipment, open EVERY day of the year pretty much all day. The staff is friendly and on top of everything. Also, it's intentionally designed to avoid bro behavior which I love (almost no mirrors). I have recommended this place to pretty much everyone I know in cap hill

Came here to watch a friend partake in a weight lifting competition and found the staff and owner of the gym to be extremely nice. If I didn’t live so far away I would have this as my main gym. Feels like a large community of accepting people.

As a person with limited gym experience and lots of gym anxiety, I can't recommend Rain City Fit enough! Folks are there to work out. I've never witnessed any competitive or showcasing behavior. Every interaction I've had has been friendly and polite.
There's lots of space and multiple options for just about every exercise you could want to do. I predominantly focus on lifting, but I'm constantly happy with the weights and weight machines.
Staff are generally present when I've been around. I typically shoot for "unpopular" hours like early afternoons, and during these times, I can always get my workout in without any problems. I've also frequented in early and late evenings - and it can get a little busy. But since there is so much space, and the upstairs extensions, it rarely feels crowded.
The gym's philosophy is to make space to support female, trans, and queer folks who want to work out, and it feels super welcoming and supportive. And with extraordinarily competitive pricing, I can't imagine joining a different gym

Definitely one of the best gym in Seattle area. It is well planned and setup. They have done a very good use of the place. It is also very affordable. Quitting the gym is also very easy unlike other big gyms that make it cumbersome to quit. Very affordable for Seattle.

I travel for work sometimes which make commitments in a city tough. The gym itself is awesome and Ben (manager or owner) has always found a way to make it work for me. It would be more convenient to have a national gym I can use whenever I travel but it's the little things that keep me here. Thank you Ben & Rain city fit team!

I like this place because it is a gym for the sake of being a gym. None of the pizzazz and frills that come with other gyms/clubs. There is a lot of space, lots of machines, dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells, cardio equipment, etc. And the best part is people go there to workout. The lack of classes and the smaller changing areas makes it much more of a workout place than a social event. I normally go during the day between 9am and 3pm.

I’m a beginner to the gym, so I was really intimidated, but Rain City Fit made starting such a great experience. Ben is super responsive and helpful via email, and signing up takes all of 5 minutes. When you walk in, there’s space to keep your bag and hang your jacket. It’s a deceptively large space, so there is plenty of room to stretch, do free weights, barbell, cardio, or anything else you need. I especially appreciated that there’s a “light barbell” section for those who are starting out and are intimidated by the other squat rack section. It’s clear that the whole gym was thoughtfully laid out and built. People are respectful throughout the gym. Overall, I’ve had a great experience!

This is the best gym I have been a member of. It’s not that it has all the amenities of big box gyms with saunas and massage chairs, but that everyone is friendly and the gym is constantly improving. New spaces keep opening up in the gym and equipment is very spread out. There isn’t one main room where everyone is staring at each other, but instead multiple smaller rooms that each have a unique feel to them.
As a woman I love that all the glute machines are kept together and in a room that feels more private. I have also never been made uncomfortable by another gym goer while working out here.
The only thing I wish this gym had was more mirrors so I could see my form.

Probably the best gym in Seattle, beating out Pro Club West in terms of price and having what the majority of people want in a gym (Pro Club has a lot of things I didn't utilize but still paid for).
This is a large gym that has nearly everything you need in terms of resistance training. Many gyms in Seattle are small and class oriented but this is a good, regular (individual-oriented) gym that has two floors of equipment, a large area for sled pushing or farmer walks, deadlift platforms and pretty ample squat rack space and racks that can double as benching spots. The second floor contains additional squat and bench space and a number of machines. If all squat racks are full I usually find space upstairs.
I've been going here about 9 months now and already have a number of "gym friends". Contrary to the "Seattle Freeze", everyone here is incredibly friendly, especially the trainers and the owner. If you're looking for a new gym definitely do a tour here and see what you think!
For awareness, this is a very dog friendly gym. This is a plus for most people (please bring your cute puppers 🥹) but if you're allergic, afraid of or dislike dogs, they might be a detriment for you.

Best gym I've ever been to. I'm doing StrongLifts right now so the only equipment I really use is the power rack. Thankfully, Rain City has over ten of them. Gym has a very fun, young energy. Only $60 per month and no joiner's fee (unlike most gyms in Seattle)! Only cons are that they don’t have AC and the WiFi is pretty bad. Also, they allow dogs which kinda sucks for me since I’m allergic.

I love going to my gym! Definitely has a hole in the wall feel, and I really like that. I appreciate how welcoming/accommodating this gym is, and tries really hard not to be a bro gym. I think it succeeds.
If I had to nitpick I'd say the gym does get pretty crowded in the afternoons which sometimes keeps me from completing my entire workout. I try to come at other times but sometimes that's not possible.
Also, oftentimes the rags around the gym use for wiping down equipment get pretty gross. There have been multiple times where I wipe down the equipment I used, put the rag back, and now my hand smells like a gross combo of sweat and mold. Getting them switched out more frequently would be nice. Overall a great spot - would definitely recommend (although don't go when I go 😉).

Worked out here for about a month or so. It was good. Got really crowded in the evening so I’d go right after work to beat the rush. No one ever really talked with others which is good in a way but I would’ve liked to talk to more people and possibly made friends while I was there.
