A Year In — And I’m So Grateful I Found SCE

I waited a full year before writing this review because I really wanted to speak from experience — and I can confidently say that joining SCE has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for my health.

Before finding SCE, I bounced from gym to gym, trying a little bit of everything and constantly ending up injured. It felt like the harder I worked, the further I got from my goals. That all changed at SCE.

KJay has taught me so much — from exercise timing, pacing, and intensity to the importance of nutrition and whole-body wellness. For the first time, I’m learning how to move correctly and train in a way that supports my long-term health rather than sets me back.

I started training here to prepare for an ultra Spartan, and I can honestly say this place is a game-changer. I’ve struggled in other races before, always hitting the same walls and coming up short. KJay helped me break through every one of those issues, both physically and mentally.

SCE is unique, and my family loves this gym. K Jay and his wife Heather are beautiful people. K Jay will meet you at your level and invite you and inspire you to level up. SCE has world class athletes and folks who are just learning how to train. It's a second home for my wife and six year old daughter, who is training-by-play. And K Jay doesn't just coach - he does the workouts and you should check his times!! It's really been a journey for me. As someone who has never really been into fitness, I can honestly say I wasn't expecting much when I joined SCE Fitness. I’ve always struggled to get into a routine, and the idea of working out regularly never appealed to me. But after a few weeks here, I’m surprised by how much I’m enjoying the experience.

From the moment I walked in, KJay made me feel welcome and comfortable. There was no pressure to be “fit” or “in shape,” and I appreciated that the atmosphere is relaxed but motivating. The other members have been very welcoming and kind.

KJay has been incredibly supportive, taking the time to answer questions and provide guidance without overwhelming me.

Joining SCE has been one of the best decisions I've made for myself. KJay and the SCE family are some of the kindest and most welcoming people I've ever met. This isn't your typical gym where you just go to work out—it's a place where you go to genuinely become a better person. Even with a full gym, the experience feels personal, like you're getting one-on-one support. KJay is always smiling and so encouraging, which makes a huge difference.

I've only been part of the SCE family for less than a month, but it's already completely changed my perspective on working out. I'm one of the youngest members here at 21 and a college student, but I've seen people from all age ranges, from early 20s to 60s+. Age isn't a barrier—everyone is welcome.

I love that you get out of it what you put into your fitness journey. There are no mandatory classes or strict schedules; you can come in whenever you want, and KJay is always super accommodating, trying to be there for your workouts. On some days, I can really push myself, and on others, if I'm not feeling 100%, I know I can take it easier without any judgment.

A week after joining SCE, I injured my shoulder pretty badly. It was supposed to take months to heal, but with KJay's support and positive attitude, I was back to my normal life in just two weeks, doing modified workouts. I'm so grateful for the energy and optimism he brought to my recovery. When they say SCE is a family, they truly mean it. There's a reason they have a process to join—it's all about building a supportive and uplifting community.

In all the years I’ve been going to gyms and doing workouts, I have never had the experience of a trainer sharing his knowledge of how the body works and the value and the importance of stretching and rolling your muscles before and after workouts. He has taught me so many intricate details of form and the “small” things like run slow to get faster. It’s all the “little” things he has taught me as we go through the workouts that are invaluable to me. SCE has taught me that pain and immobility are not an option. We weren’t created that way. We were created to move.

KJay teaches us to do what we enjoy injury free. Injury prevention is one of their core values. The body is capable of doing what it is designed to do at any age and he shows us that it’s possible.

SCE Fitness is the only place to go in my opinion the trainer and owner Kjay has helped me with so many areas in life! Fitness and nutrition are just the start he helped me to get back on track with my alcohol issues as well as following the path of the Lord. Since beginning I've found a interesting in endurance running which is something that I never thought I'd enjoy. I wanted to find a gym that could work with my personal fitness goals, but also push me to the next level of fitness. Also, I'm a busy mom of a 4yr. old and 12yr. old. My husband often goes out of town, so I need to work around his schedule too. SCE Fitness checked all the boxes. It's not your typical gym environment. I'm able to bring in my kids and they both have a blast in this environment too. The owner/trainer is knowledgeable and attentive and will make sure you are in the correct program. I love how this gym is all about family. My husband recently signed up too!

Hands down, the best decision I’ve made to start training at SCE Fitness! At first I was hesitant in looking for a gym to train in regularly because I’ve never really been fond of the atmosphere of most gyms, but took the leap of faith and went in for a consultation anyways because I new I needed a change in my overall health, not knowing what to expect. From the get go I felt the great energy and felt welcome when I first met K-Jay (owner-trainer) and all the fellow members. K-jay is super nice and takes interest in you no matter what fitness level your at. I appreciate all the tips and tricks they give us to get the most out of every workout and to make sure they are done correctly to prevent any injury. I train here 4-5 days weekly and find the consistent positive trainers, awesome music and participants who take class create a perfect workout environment. For the short time I’ve been coming to this gym I am already seeing a big change in my energy levels and body. I love this place. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to get in shape and meet great and inspiring people in the process. You won’t regret it!!👊🏼

UPDATE: I have been training with KJay at SCE Fitness for just under a year now, and the amount of personal, athletic, and spiritual growth that I have experienced has made me beyond grateful. SCE is not your typical gym; it is a place where I come to make myself a better person, better at life. UPDATE: It has been 9 years since I have trained with KJay Davis at SCE Fitness! I continue to run better as I age (now 59 years) because of the program and was able to complete a 50 mile Ultra with 8200 elevation gain this past March. Take the next step and come into SCE to see your goals achieved.

I was approaching my 50th birthday and had done some working out on my own. But I wasn't getting very far and knew I needed a bigger push. KJay posted a new Boot Camp class to start in the fall at the gym and I decided to give it a try. When I first met with KJay, he asked if I ran at all. I said an definite "no" and it wasn't going to be something I would do ever. Well now almost 2 years later after working out with KJay, I am running. Not just 2-3 miles but long distances. KJay is a trainer who pushes you to try your best and see what you can do even if it is outside your comfort zone...nothing is impossible. I can proudly say I have toned up and loss about 10% of my body fat. I have learned a lot about myself by completing a 10k run, a Spartan Beast Obstacle Race, and a half marathon. Guess I do like running and nothing is impossible even at 50+ years old!

5 STARS for Kjay Davis owner/trainer at SCE Fitness! Why? If he can train me he can train anybody!

Since I have been with Kjay I have lost 25 lbs. competed in 22 Spartan Races (Including 2 Spartan Ultras). At the Spartan races I compete in the "Competitive Category" and have placed in the top 3 in my age group. I have run numerous 10K's and one 50 mile race. I managed to get in 2 STP rides as well (Seattle to Portland bike rides, these are 2 days of 100 miles each day).

Why do I tell you this? I am not a naturally born athlete but I am determined and have become disciplined in my training and I enjoy the benefits of such.

Lets just say if I can do this you have no excuse for using age as a factor :) The question is what is holding YOU back?

Kjay has been one of the most influential people throughout my exercise journey. He meets you where you’re at and pushes you past where you ever thought you could go. My first Spartan race is in a couple weeks, and it’s a longer distance than I had originally planned (6 miles instead of 3). Despite this, Kjay has dedicated time and energy to make sure that my training will prepare me for that. He is incredibly knowledgeable in every aspect of fitness and won’t hesitate to share the “why” behind his programs.

Additionally, the atmosphere is different from any other gym I’ve been to. People at SCE know and encourage each other, and they’re at the gym to put in the work. I’m sure everyone there has heard one of Kjay’s favorite sayings, “if you want success without commitment, you’ll have neither,” and they truly take that to heart. My 13yo son was in a snowboarding accident in January. He broke one femur and almost shattered the other. From my past experience of working with Kjay to meet my own personal goals, I had complete confidence in his ability to provide rehabilitation for my son. This past week, my son was able to return to the mountain to snowboard (only three months after being wheelchair bound from his traumatic injury to both legs). I highly recommend Kjay if you are dedicated to improving your health, if you looking for someone to provide you with an individualized plan, and if you desire both the education as well as the motivation to help you reach your goals.

I have suffered for many years under the evil trainer KJ Davis. He has never allowed someone to become comfortable in the gym and "That's the way it should be". KJ changes things up and pushes your body past comfort to muscle growth and development. My needs have changed, I am 68 years old I have had two knee replacements, hernia surgery and live with spinal arthritis. Medical issues have kept me on the side line for 4 years and now I'm ready to move again. I have chosen to train with KJ Davis because of his complete knowledge of the human body, mind and soul. KJ cares about each individual more than any other trainer and/or physical therapist I have known. Remember this if nothing else, "If you like your physical therapist, get a new one." He or she is not pushing you hard enough."

You won’t get this type of experience in a local gym. Do you have specific goals? Do you have a lingering injury that you just can’t get ride of? Personally, I never have had much luck with fitness my entire life. I struggled mentally, physically, and/or emotionally that made me prone to being inconsistent with my lifestyle as a whole. Joining SCE fitness was one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself. When I joined this gym in 2017, I could not have envisioned the way it would impact my life. I had been looking for a challenge and something to ignite my passion. I found that passion and challenge at SCE. Kjay is the most devoted trainer and human I have met. He helped me become the best version of myself that I can be. He lives to challenge and better each of his clients, and he is sooo good at it. I joined the group at SCE Fitness in January of 2018. I had completed several Olympic distance triathlons and the CDA Half Ironman but felt my fitness was lacking. I was improving on my swimming, biking and running but felt flabby and weak. I didn’t know how to best incorporate strength training into a busy triathlon training schedule. Additionally, I was struggling to understand exactly what I needed in my diet to support a training program while trimming some excess fat. Prior to joining SCE I was intimidated by gyms but from the first day I walked in, I knew SCE was going to be a good fit for me. People immediately welcomed me and helped me get acquainted with the workouts and where everything was. KJay has a special talent in knowing each of his members, where they are in their fitness level, motivating and giving us the tools and knowledge to improve. Most importantly he is focused on injury avoidance by teaching proper technique and laying the necessary groundwork to build from. He helped me rehab a hamstring injury that was causing significant low back and hip pain in the first six months I was at the gym. I’ve now been pain free for almost three years! I’m stronger than I have ever been. More importantly, he has created a membership of people who are supportive, encouraging and fun to workout with. I truly have the BEST gym family!!!!

For me, SCE Fitness has been a place of recovery, renewed vision and focus, and success.
I came to SCE Fitness, coming out of a dark season for me. I was a collegiate athlete and had never found myself lacking drive and focus for athletics/fitness; until that point in life. For a year and a half, my health and fitness had declined and I found myself wandering aimlessly in the “fitness community”, until I found SCE.
The first day was discouraging and was a reality check for how far I had fallen out of shape. But that was the beginning of a better and stronger foundation. Fast forward a year from that point and I was doing a Spartan Beast, not failing any obstacles, and eventually making the podium in my age group, and qualifying to race at the elite level.

I have always been an athlete and I'm not used to being sidelined. In May 2018, while opening a drawer, my back seized up and left me in so much pain that I couldn't move. It turns out that it had finally had enough after 12 years of supporting me while it was injured (and I didn’t know it). In 2006, a week after an Ironman, I went on a 100-mile bike ride, during which I lost control on a gravelly mountain pass, hit a post on the side of the road, and smashed my face. Though the impact kept me from going over the edge of a cliff and saved my life, it left me broken. The doctors fixed the most visible problem, my face, but no one thought to talk to me about severe whiplash and I didn’t know to ask about it. A badly bent neck and spine can do what they can until they can’t anymore. And last spring, they gave out. I went to a chiropractor and got all straightened out, but it still hurt badly when I ran. I was weak and unable to run as fast or as long as I was used to. Nothing worked like I wanted because everything was in a different place. Finally, in March 2019, I gave myself the best present ever and went to work with KJay Davis, who set out to strengthen all of me while paying expert attention to my healing body and its specific and changing needs. He is smart, conscientious, experienced, and incredibly attentive and intuitive. I trust him implicitly. Now, my full-body strength is better than it has ever been. I can do things I never thought I could, or never had the opportunity to try. I weigh exactly the same, but I've gained four pounds of lean muscle and have lost 3% body fat. And what's most important is that just last Saturday, three months after I started working with him twice a week, I ran without pain for the first time in more than a year. Not only have I shaved off the two minutes per trail mile that my injury required, I feel great while I'm doing it. I respect KJay Davis as the expert coach that he is, and I appreciate his empowering, motivating, inspiring presence with all my heart.

Hello friends, colleagues and future members. My name is Carlos.

One of the best decisions I have made has been starting the 6 Weeks Challenge with KJay.

Before joining the 6 Week challenge I had gained considerable weight due to being inactive through the years.  Because of my weight gain, this had resulted in not feeling good, and even getting high blood pressure.

When I met with KJay, the first thing he did was interview me ask me what my goals were for the 6 Week Challenge. He also gave me a personalized diet.

As soon as I started, my life had changed 180 degree.

In the first 2 weeks I could see changes in myself, experience weight loss, feel great, but above all eliminate my high blood pressure.

At the end of the 6 weeks I completed my personal goals.  The difference can be seen in my ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos.

I recommend SCE Fitness because it will change your life and help you move towards achieving your health goals that you could not elsewhere.

if you're looking for a gym where everyone gives you their dedication to make you the best version of yourself, this is the gym for you and everyone you love. I started my fitness journey back in January/February. I had just come back after having taken a year off due to a back injury. I weighed 200lbs. and had 20% body fat. When I started I honestly never thought that I would have the same strength as I had before my injury. Then May came around and I had been consistently going to the gym and working out and I realized that although I wasn't eating badly, I also wasn't eating the way I should have been. So I decided it was time to focus on my nutrition. KJay and Bennie really started to push me into training for Spartan races. After I started focusing on my nutrition, I started really seeing a difference and noticing some body definition. I have dropped down to 11% body fat and sit at right around 170lbs. I have more energy, feel better in general, I'm not as hungry nearly as much as I used to be, and my daily headaches are nearly non-existent. August 11, I ran my very first Spartan race and ended up finishing 1st in my age group. That was a HUGE accomplishment for me. Because of KJay and the SCE family that has been created, this accomplishment was possible and I could never have done it without any of those people pushing me to do my very best. I don't want to miss a day at the gym. I love my consistency and I love seeing the results this far and cannot wait to see where it goes from here. Thank you KJay for everything you have done for me and thank you SCE for being my family. Wouldn't be where I am without any one of them.

I am 43 & have used several trainers. After years of athletic injuries I just can't go crazy anymore. I must be conscience of my physical limitations to avoid injury. Wife & kids to support..... KJ un like any trainer I have seen pushes extremely hard, always being "Mr positive" and is always in tune with my personal limitations. How he remembers all our personal goals & boundary's is beyond me.

KJay cares about the people he works with and honestly strives to help them achieve their goals - not like brand name fitness centers that just care about the bottom line. KJay knows how to motivate, when to push, and when to let you relax a bit. He works with your schedule, your fitness goals, and your personality. He really is a PERSONAL trainer.

One aspect of his program that I like is the flexibility in time and type of workout. KJay has been very accommodating of the many life events that tend to interrupt or force training to be rescheduled. When my long week of work is making that 5:00a.m. class too early KJay will find a way to squeeze me in later in the day. (Or he'll just get me working twice as hard the next week!!)

I also like the flexibility in the type of workout. I don't always want to do one-on-one sessions. Sometimes it is nice to be in a group. KJay offers a variety of group classes from light to heavy workouts to augment the one-on-one times. He can set you up with the right balance of individual and group workouts. KJay also mixes up the exercises from week to week so you are never doing the same thing or working the same muscles for too long. It keeps things exciting and fresh each session.

I've been working with KJay for nine months now. I sought him out after falling out of shape following surgery on a broken wrist. In my time with KJay, I've dropped from 18% body fat to 11%, I've lost 15 inches across my body, and I've gained 5lbs of lean muscle. I've always been active, but I never knew enough to completely achieve my fitness goals on my own. With KJay's help, I have achieved more than I ever thought possible. Once, a single pull up was impossible, now I shoot for twelve in a row.

I couldn't recommend KJay enough. I never considered using a personal trainer before, but I am glad I gave him a call for his free consultation. It was just what I needed to get back on track with my fitness goals and to stay there.

When I was first introduced to Kjay, I was in a space where I lacked confidence about my body and my physical abilities. I had always been fairly active but found myself getting "stuck" both mentally and physically in my workouts and in my daily habits.

Kjay spent time with me to get to know what these sticking points were both ones I recognized and ones he helped me to see, and to set manageable and realistic goals for me. In truth, what I lacked was a good routine, confidence and someone to help push me along the way.

By working with Kjay, I was able to set small and attainable goals which helped build confidence and ability. Finding strength in my body speaks volumes to the mind and soon I found this new found confidence spilling over to other areas of my life.

I've tried many trainers over the years, got bored then went off on my own with varied results. I decided to try one of KJay's group classes and was amazed at his energy and how innovative his approach was. I've stayed with him for 3 years now!!

I'm in my late 40's and in the best shape I've ever been with a body fat percentage hovering around 12%. Jay takes a vested interest in your success understanding that diet and fitness go hand in hand. He will challenge you and you will do things you never thought possible. He pushes me to be my best, but is also my biggest supporter.

About 9 months ago I first sat down with K Jay for a consultation about possibly starting a workout routine with the goal to just get in shape. That meeting has turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. K Jay has radically challenged the view I had of my self and he has continued to push me to reach my true potential. After 9 months I finally believe in the impossible and am now training to run the Super Spartan this October in Seattle.
