Went to SBG for a little over a year. It was a great community snd they had a decent gym setup compared to the majority of martial arts gyms.

I moved out of Seattle and I still miss and think about this gym. Highly recommend!

Truly the best boxing gym in the city! It takes me about 30mins each way to come here, and due to new personal engagements, I needed to find a boxing gym closer to home. But there's no place like SBG! I was then away for 3 months and missed it every single day - so I decided to come back.

All the staff are genuinely kind and care about our safety. Jacque, El, Jose, Joey, Simona, Emil, and even the ones that I never had direct training with (Jeremiah, Angel, and Jon) - are all wonderful human beings and skillful in their own ways. And they are so generous with sharing their skills & knowledge.

The gym is mellow and has a full on sense of community. As a petite Asian woman, the first thing I run away from is a gym with a machismo vibe. And I feel none of that at SBG in the past 1,5 years coming here almost every day. Everyone here is just the best at what they do and are respectful of each other. Will continue to share this place with friends & fam!

I’ve been a member at SBG for over 2 years now and I’ve made tons of friends since my time there. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. The classes are great for any level of experience. I mostly do private sessions and have worked with almost all the coaches there, they are all great!

I’ve done private sessions with Coach Jacque the majority of my time there and she is constantly challenging me and pushing me to improve. Whenever I become frustrated with myself, she always offers strong words of encouragement to keep me going. (And maybe if you’re lucky, you can get her to crochet you a toy)

I also highly recommend trying private sessions with Coach Simona! She is legit!

Almost destroyed me - in a good way - after a week on vacation. My husband and I dropped in to check out SBG while in Seattle for a few days on a road trip. The staff were friendly, responsive and knowledgeable. We took a class with Simona, it was very challenging and also fun, she knows her stuff. El made sure we felt welcome when we arrived, too. Between the instruction and watching the other folks in class, it was pretty easy to follow along as a first-timer. We will definitely try another class when we are back in Seattle, and highly recommend.

While sparring with an instructor, I asked them to go lightly twice(!!). The instructor then concussed me.

Before the round I asked them to go light. They seemed annnoyed but seemed to understand.

They then started going harder. I stopped the round and told them to lighten up again. They seemed annoyed again but acknowledged my request and we restarted. The instructor proceeded to go hard and hit me hard with a right hook and gave me a concussion.

I stopped the round entirely and walked out of the ring, and none of the instructors asked why or seemed to care.

For your personal safety and basic customer service, you should avoid this gym.

I'm attending classes almost for year now and can say that this is the best gym for any levels with very convenient schedule and affordable prices. Any coach will help you if you struggling with the drills. The equipment is new and the whole atmosphere is great.

SBG is by far the best gym I've ever trained at. I didn't know many people when I relocated to Seattle, and I was welcomed with open arms to this inclusive community. Since joining here I've made many of my closest friends and continue to enjoy the classes and 1:1 sessions with really kind and knowledgeable trainers. Emil, El, Joey, Jeremiah, Jackie and Simona are all skilled and thoughtful coaches who take the time to get to know new joiners, and push the more seasoned members to train a bit harder when appropriate. I would recommend SBG to anyone, no matter their skill level!

I loved this place and want to keep supporting it, until this evening at my beginner boxing class that was instructed by Joey, who needs to get his attitude checked. He was condescending, unwelcoming and unnecessarily rude. If you can put up with someone who possesses toxic masculinity, then maybe this is the place for you.

(Mind you, I tried a complimentary class with another awesome instructor (he was of Asian descent and shorter; unfortunately, I don't remember his name and couldn't find him on the website.) I've tried other boxing gyms in Seattle and I still preferred the Seattle Boxing Gym (SBG) given its authenticity and no-frills vibe, until today, December 12, 2023.))

I arrived early for the 4 p.m. Tuesday class, so I proceeded to warm up doing cycling (since I have been recovering from my ACL surgery and can't do jump ropes yet). The bicycles were hidden in the corner, so I had to keep leaning over and checking to see if they were starting the class soon, since I don't have my phone handy. I saw some people gathering in the middle of the gym but I wasn't sure if that was the class (since there were a few people exercising already at the gym), so I hopped off the bike and approached the instructor, Joey, and asked if this was the beginner class. He looked at me annoyed and said "Yeah, what about it?" I mean, jeeze, very welcoming to a simple question from someone who's obviously going to join the class. I proceeded to clarify nicely with a question, asking if it was starting soon.

Throughout the lesson, the music was blaring loud and I could barely hear him. He also spoke fast and in jumbled words. So I did some of the moves wrong, which he corrected, which was fine. The exercises and drills were tough and effective, which I liked.

Then, toward the end of the class, I thought we were going to do some cool-down exercises, which I did before with another instructor at SBG. When he said let's do some burnout, I thought the cool-down exercises were what he meant (mind you, this was my second class over the span of a few months.) He asked the class a question which option of burnout we wanted. I thought we get to choose our own version of cool-down. I spoke up and said I prefer to do ab exercises, to which he looked at me stone cold in the face again like I was about to punch him or something, "I am the instructor." Ok...

It's like, I was not trying to challenge you dude, chill out, ffs. There were plenty of other ways to respond to what I said. There was unnecessary hostility created, which I did not appreciate.

With my first complimentary class with the other instructor, I was left feeling strong, uplifted and empowered. But after this class with Joey, I just felt dismissed and put down. He was unnecessarily rude with innocent questions. Maybe he was in a bad mood, but I know for sure I don't want that energy while learning an intimidating sport. Maybe some people don't mind his style, but it's not for me.

I get that some boxing instructors have that blunt, devil-may-care style, but hell, this isn't some seedy underground boxing gym in the middle of the Bronx. It's supposed to be friendly and open to all beginners of different abilities and background. There's really no rhyme or reason to treat people like this.

I don't know if I will come back honestly, which is unfortunate. I even told a friend to come with me, but now, I am not so sure about the referral. But if I (or we do), I will make sure he isn't teaching the class, which sucks, because as a paying customer for this expensive drop-in class ($27 after tax), I shouldn't have to walk around egg shells, avoiding instructors and afraid I might say the wrong thing. And are other instructors like him? Is that the culture SBG is creating? Why would I waste my money for an hour of being berated?

Great service really enjoyed going before the second shut down happened my son and I did one on one separate training. At first they didn’t seem enthusiastic about training a kid which turned me off a lil bit but after the first few weeks everything was great I still have 3 sessions left but no one can tell me if I can use them still since it’s been so long which sucks but otherwise a good boxing gym.

It is very overwhelming to take up such a physically intensive new hobby. I am happy to report that the staff here made it remarkably easier.

Due to a scheduling error, I couldn't attend the Beginner Session. The instructor of the other session, Elizer, still made time to work with me personally and get me integrated. He was super kind, identified what I was doing wrong, helped me correct and learn basic behaviors, and actively encouraged me.

Based upon this one session I will absolutely be back, and I encourage anyone looking for a place to get into this hobby to look no further.

I started boxing this summer ! I’ve been going to sundays classes. Instructors are really good but all levels are mixed and sometimes pairing with people can be challenging. The Westside Boxing Gym has been an amazing experience for me even before I walked in the gym! I was intimidated as a beginner never having boxed before, but Kelley called me before my first class to make sure that I had all the information I needed which helped give me a boost of confidence to go for it. My first few classes have been amazing. Laura is an awesome teacher and helped me with my hand wraps that come along with your first class. She brings such a fun energy, lots of knowledge and grit to the classes as well as loads of patience and passion. Lee has definitely created a welcoming environment for anyone who wants to give boxing a try!

Now, after going here for a while I can certainly say that this gym is totally awesome! Couches are great, all of them, all whose classes I've attended, they pay attention to each and every person, helping to do things right/improve technic. People going here to exercise also seem awesome, easygoing.
Regardless of your level and age you'll be comfortable at group classes, it will not be easy for sure, but always productive!
And classes are always fun to workout - variety of exercises, no two classes feel the same. I like the place and people.

Great boxing gym Staffs (jacque, Emil, elizer). I never done boxing before and they are very patience with me, they paid good attention to details and make sure I get it right. Great cardio workouts, it can be intense which is what I was looking for at the first place, and I love it!! I tried a different martial art place before here, and that place talk more than working out. But not in Seattle boxing gym!. Staffs at SBG make use of every minutes u are there in working out, it's worth it! All staffs are super friendly, I didn't intimidated at all!!

Isaac is the owner and he has really turned this place around. before him, it was kind of grungy hole in the wall but he has turned it into a top notch gym without losing the grit. trainers are great and very patient, most have fought at a very high level (collegiate champions and undefeated professionals). if you check it out you may feel intimidated at first, but as soon as you talk to one of the trainers you'll feel right at home.

I joined one group class a couple years ago, came back 6 months ago and have kept coming back at least twice a week since.

This gym is incredible. If you’ve never boxed before, you’ll get a lot of attention and great coaching from the instructors. There’s also a lot of diversity in people that show up for group classes, which helps build a super inclusive community unlike any I’ve experienced in Seattle so far.

If you’re just looking to burn cals, the group workouts will challenge you in a new way while providing helpful instruction along the way. No shade to other “boot camp” type classes, but they can sometimes lack “personality” or “spirit” compared to SBG’s group classes. Early morning classes have less people and feel more intimate/personalized.

At the end of the day, whether you’re looking for a great workout, helpful coaching, or a community—you’ll find it at this gym.

As a Seattle native, I've known about SBG since I was in grade school. Went a couple times in the early days but never stuck around. With the recent flip in management, the place has transformed into something really special. With all of its trainers & instructors being young and active professionals themselves (many of which are undefeated) you get an authentic pro-boxing environment but without the pretentiousness as their outgoing and open personalities (very un-seattle like) create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for those who just want to get a good work out in. SBG is the place to be!
