Seattle Gymnastics Academy–Columbia City is genuinely one of the best parts of our family’s life. Coach Hailey and Coach Lindsey provide a rare balance of warmth, structure, and professionalism. Both my kids are neurodivergent (one with a learning disability), so I pay a lot of attention to how adults communicate with them. What I've noticed is that the coaches consistently deliver clear, supportive, and direct feedback — exactly what gymnastics requires for safety, mastery, and confidence.

My older daughter (age 8), joined XCEL this year with very little confidence, and she has completely transformed. When she landed a new skill recently, the whole gym clapped for her — and this type of celebration and joy happens all the time at SGA.

Coach Hailey communicates with every family, offering specific, holistic feedback about each child — not just their gymnastics skills, but their growth as people. At an introductory parent meeting, the staff emphasized that SGA isn’t about creating Olympians; it’s about teaching kids to love the sport and building life skills that carry into school, college, and beyond. That philosophy shows up every day: firm when needed, always encouraging, and grounded in best practice. What I’ve experienced over the years is a deeply positive, accountable, and confidence-building environment. We’re truly grateful for the impact SGA has had on our girls. Thank you Coach Hailey, Coach Lindsey and the entire staff.

Both of our daughters are at SGA Columbia City. They’re 6 and 8 now, but they each started here at age 3—and the impact this place has had on them has been extraordinary. Our oldest is now part of the Xcel team, something we never could have imagined when she first toddled into her preschool class.

Coach Hailey and the entire coaching staff are phenomenal. They put in real work to see and know their young gymnasts as human beings first. They connect with them, mentor them, and meet them where they are as the unique, brilliant little humans they are. They understand that most kids won’t become Olympians—but that every child can grow into a strong, confident, capable version of themselves. And they prioritize that above all else.

Gymnastics is hard, but so is life. What our girls are learning here goes far beyond cartwheels and handstands. They’re learning how to work toward goals, how to handle success, and—maybe more importantly—how to fail with grace, regroup, and try again. We’ve watched them begin to understand their own strength and resilience, and to truly believe in themselves. There aren’t enough words to express what that means to us, and what it’s already meant for them.

Our experience at SGA will stay with our girls for the rest of their lives.
Thank you, Hailey. Thank you, SGA.

We have been at SGA for 5+ years - multiple kids, multiple classes/teachers, and different levels. I appreciate the kind, supportive environment that SGA strives to facilitate for their students. The classes strike an excellent balance between fun, activity, and building new skills. I’m so grateful that we live close by, especially during the dark winter months- definitely helps my kids get their wiggles out and has grown their love of gymnastics.

Very rude, they threatened to drop the call if I cut them off due to my frustration of not getting anywhere with them and yet they talk over you and don’t let you get a word in the rest of the time. I had a very one sided conversation with just them talking that eventually led to them saying they were going to drop the call because we weren’t getting anywhere when it was my turn to talk. I dropped my daughter from competition lessons while there is just the championship left and she is not allowed to compete in the championship even though she contributed to help her team get where they are. They said I’d have to pay for a whole other month. My confusion was that I paid a separate fee for the competition, aside from also paying for the monthly fees. That extra fee should include the championship. I haven’t found anything I agreed to that says they won’t be able to be a part of this championship after dropping a class right before. SGA is claiming the championship is an added bonus that’s “free “, not part of the extra competition fee. This makes no sense. If that’s the case I shouldn’t have to pay another monthly fee just to be a part of a championship that my daughter is clearly looking forward to thanks to the coaches having brought it up with them. SGA is simply profiting and exploiting little kids.

I was hesitant to enroll my daughter there not because of the obvious complaints but because of friends that told me this exact thing happened to them as well.

Side note: the coach is great!

Disappointing experience after three years with SGA

My 7-year-old daughter has been taking gymnastics lessons with Seattle Gymnastics Academy for about three years. She started at the Burien location and later transferred to the Columbia City gym when she joined the XCEL Team program this July, coached by Hailey and Lindsey. The program costs around $700 per month for 3-hour practices twice a week, so we expected a positive and supportive experience.

Unfortunately, after a few months on the XCEL team, my daughter began to lose interest in attending class. She said her coach was "not very nice" and that she often felt singled out, which completely took the fun out of gymnastics for her.

We even paid an additional $1,200 Competition Fee Deposit for an upcoming competition, plus another $300 for the required competition leotard, warm-up jacket, and team backpack, which makes this experience even more disappointing.

We don't mind the costs -- as long as it brings joy to her life and she remains passionate about it. Unfortunately, that excitement is gone. I don't believe my daughter has lost interest in gymnastics as a sport -- she still practices her routines and does cartwheels at home -- but the fact that she no longer wants to attend practice tells me this has everything to do with SGA and her experience there.

I truly hope SGA takes a closer look at how some of their coaches, including Hailey and Lindsey, interact with younger athletes. Encouragement and kindness make all the difference -- especially for kids at this age and level.

I’m not sure why there are somewhat low ratings but SGA rocks. As a former athlete I think the coaches do a phenomenal job at providing a great foundation and discipline for physical health.

Extremely rude and unaccommodating. Do the Ballard location instead. Indoor playground receptionist on Wednesdays specifically at CC. Will not recommend this location to any of our community. Managers, feel free to reach out if you want to hear my experience, otherwise find kinder staff.

No accessibility services. They expect students with disabilities to provide their own support and teach them gymnastics themselves, while the teacher for the class just helps all the able-bodied/neurotypical kids.

My daughter loves going here for gymnastics and I have been very pleased with the Colombia City location. My daughter seems to have made the fastest and most gains here. The coaches have been able to instruct her in ways that help her catch on to skills quickly.

Recently partitioned a major area of the gymnasium to segregate kids by age. Didn't mention this when booking a reservation and SURPRISE, they still charge the same price. Oh and btw, they pass on steep credit card processing fees to the customer no matter how much you spend and it's the only way you can pay.

Their drop policy is extremely shady and the staff will not even mention it to you if you clearly tell them that your kid is going to have to leave until the first of the month rolls around so they can milk another month out of you. The drop form and policy is buried on the website, too. If you are leaving town or changing sports, better to drop too early than too late. They also have real limited classes for the older kids.

Both my kids love it. Loved open play and now love their classes. I was able to get my 3yr old and 6yr old in classes that both run at the same time which was great for our schedule.

I took my two and a half year old son to open play gym time for the first time today, and he had the best time! Very spacious, lots of things to do, and the staff was very friendly. I'm excited to bring him back to do some more.

Will never come back here. After months of being on a waitlist, we were notified that a class had opened up for my child. That same day, I let them know we wanted to enroll. Did a class to make sure it was a fit with the teacher, let them know my child was excited about it, and were rudely told that the spot was already filled and we could go on the waitlist again. Staff was unhelpful and told me that I should have known that email is not the best way to contact them (despite their waitlist email saying "respond back to this email to enroll") They need to re-evaluate their procedures. This left me frustrated, and my child sad that she couldn't do gymnastics again. We won't be going back here. Much better places in Seattle to go, so they've lost my business for good.

Place is great and staff is as well, the community and family/parents there not so great. Our first time going there, and our kiddo is almost 3. He’s learning and we are learning too, given that we didn’t know what we were getting into. We went for open gym time.

The parents/families there were not very supportive. Our kid and us are trying to learn to be patient and wait our turn. Learning to try to play with others but also giving space. Given the current climate of the pandemic we understand. However, our kid was just too excited and we apologize for that. But to belittle us and our kid because we were a little too excited and wanting to play with others is sad and frankly disconcerting. Unfortunately everyone there can relate, being the first time there, and being with a kid who’s learning, but instead the passive aggressive whispers and sighs of frustration… Newcomers are not welcome, and if you are be sure your kid knows how to follow rules and learns fast. If not, you will hear for yourself from the everyone else. Won’t be going again, sad to say, but the place was great.

Our daughter was at team trial and she broke her arm at uneven bar at Colombia city. :(. Stil cannot believe what happened.
And we still wonder why coach wasn’t with her. Not sure if we recommend this gym. We think we should share our experiences here.
She is still recovering, so traumatized and definitely not coming back. It has been 5 months and she still hasn't fully recovered yet.
Please be careful everyone.

This facility is great. The front desk staff are very helpful and friendly. They are very quick to share important information.

The coaches are great. The team coaches are an amazing team that truly care about the kids.

The facility is clean and well maintained. Kids are able to practice learn and train in a safe environment.

The completive team is building depth and this facility should be considered if you have a completive gymnast!

Over the past year I have witnessed great changes at SGA. More communication and options for gymnasts (well, still quite a waitlist!). I am willing to work through the changes and appreciate all Coach Carmina has ignited in our daughter. Our daughter has built confidence and strength along with the value of responsibility. Thank you.

The management at SGA is just lacking. Rude and dismissive front desk people. No real solution to any problems that you might bring up. Overcrowded classrooms, watching the rotations on the students on uneven bars is just daunting. On a given 2 hour session, I observed students work on 3 skills only with out any hands on correction on those struggling. Students are stuck in age inappropriate classes because there is no room in advance classes where they can progress and be challenged. With the new monthly payment system, it’s just another way to rob families while maintaining the facade of good training. Good training left with the likes of coach Bianca... what’s left is a baby sitters who can bounce on trampolines for an hour and give your children stamps at the end of it. I will be reporting this business to BBB.
