⭐️ Best Gym, Period. (Shoutout to Seth & Vanessa!)
Seriously, if you're hunting for a gym you'll actually want to go to.. This is the spot. Yes, the equipment is next-level and the space is unreal but the real MVP move here is joining because of the owners, Seth and Vanessa.
They're genuinely fantastic people who didn't just open a business—they built a community. Everyone is so supportive and working hard, whether they're throwing around huge weight or just starting out. It's honestly inspiring!
What sets them apart? Their backgrounds. Vanessa is a beast—she's got a purple belt in Jiu Jitsu and is always training Muay Thai and Wrestling. Seth played collegiate baseball, so he's got this killer knowledge of sports-focused strength and conditioning that other coaches just don't. Basically, they know exactly how to train athletes (or ex-athletes) who want to stay sharp and crush their goals.
The atmosphere is the best. They remember everyone's name and are always checking in on your goals, purely because they care.
If you want a transformation that sticks, you have to talk them up about their nutrition program. They are wizards at guiding you through a total health glow-up. It's not just about lifting; they look at the whole picture. They make the confusing world of eating healthy doable, and the results are game-changing.
Vanessa brings such a fun, upbeat energy and keeps the gym running smoothly and feeling super welcoming. Plus, she's a powerhouse when it comes to functional strength and martial arts training. Seth is a motivation machine who knows his stuff—he's always ready with a quick tip on form and has a great grasp of athletic training principles.
They pour their hearts into this place, and you can tell. If you want a supportive crew led by two people who are genuinely dedicated to your success (and be surrounded by other awesome members), you need to get down here. Best thing I've done for myself! Go check 'em out! 1000/5 stars!

Truly the best of the best. The gym atmosphere is motivating and uplifting, full of hard-working people bettering themselves. They have top of the line equipment, and everything is well maintained, cared for, and clean. Seth and Vanessa are experts in all things training and nutrition. Some training sessions you leave feeling like an absolute badass and some you leave incredibly humbled, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Very thankful for their patience and guidance. I have been knowing Vanessa and Seth for almost 10 years. They changed my life forever. Not only physically but also mentally. They turned from being my trainers to my gym family. We prepped for several shows together. We went through the highs and lows that comes with competition prep. They always pushed me to become a better version of myself. I can also say, that after I moved to Florida I couldn’t find a gym like the Training Pit. This gym will be my forever gym when I visit the PNW and V and S will be my forever gym family! I cannot begin to explain how awesome this gym is. The people, the environment, it’s all amazing and so worth the membership! The owners V and Seth are both truly amazing and passionate with their gym. When I was living local this gym was my go to daily gym. No excess BS, easy to start, easy to cancel! If you’re looking for an environment where you can thrive this place is IT! If I didn’t have to move so far I would’ve kept my membership. The only downside of the gym is when you leave you’ll miss it :’(

Seth is a master at his craft. There aren’t many coaches that can compare to Seth. He pushes hard, and expects nothing but everything you got, which is the same that he puts into his own training as a IFBB Pro competitor. Warmups feel like punishments. The workouts? Controlled suffering. And somehow, you’ll love it!
And if one IFBB Pro wasn’t enough, you get two at the Training Pit! IFBB Pro Vanessa will smile as she turns your legs to jelly. She’s got the rare gift of encouraging you while absolutely wrecking you. She’s there to support and encourage you, while pushing you to new levels like no one else can.
This place is brutal, and your weaknesses will be exposed. It’s also the best thing that’s ever happened to your body and brain. You’ll leave stronger, meaner, and weirdly grateful.
I’ve been training with Seth and Vanessa for 4 years, and my only wish is that I would have started sooner!

This gym is the real deal. The owners, Seth and Vanessa, are at the gym every day training their clients, but are invested and care enough about everyone there to help correct form and posture when they spot something off. It's never overcrowded, and the regulars are all kind and supportive. If you're looking to make wholesale changes to your fitness in a gym that actually prioritizing an environment where transformation is possible, then this is the place. As long as we live in the South Puget Sound, this is our gym home. No question.

This place has changed my life. I walked in over two years ago and was immediately greeted by Vanessa with her big smile. I told her I had heard this was the place to go if I wanted to be serious about lifting and eventually going on stage. She told me I had found the right place and two years later I couldn’t agree more. Seth and Vanessa are the owners and you will not find two more knowledgeable, patient and when need be hard ass trainers. They are both ifbb pros and Seth has a masters in kinesiology. Fitness is there life. The gym is badass with every machine and free weights needed. If you are brand new or a seasoned pro this is the premier gym in Tacoma no doubt.

The Training Pit in Tacoma has serious issues. The customer service is terrible—staff are rude and unhelpful, often ignoring questions or brushing off concerns. The equipment is outdated, with rusty weights and broken machines that haven’t been fixed in months. The gym is consistently dirty, with grimy floors, dusty corners, and bathrooms that look like they’re never cleaned. Overall, a disappointing experience—not worth the membership.

Absolutely love The Training Pit and owners Seth and Vanessa. Both are so knowledgeable and find the perfect combination of pushing you but respecting your needs/limitations.
I set a goal of competing in my first show, and used their various services from training, to nutrition, to posing. I felt healthy and supported the whole time. Any time I had a concern about an injury, or pain point they were able to modify and target and help me recover. Highly recommend!

I honestly thank my lucky stars every day that I found this gym. Vanessa and Seth are phenomenal human beings with such knowledgeable passion for bodybuilding and fitness, that it makes even the hardest parts of finding your inner beast, so much fun. I absolutely adore them.
When I started I weighed 139lbs at 5'3", and my body was so locked up and tight I had trouble even moving through the world. In just 4.5 months I'm down 30lbs thanks to their incredible nutrition and lifting program, and I've never seen more muscle on myself than I have now!! But it's not just the gains that make it all worthwhile, its how invested Seth and Vanessa are in your learning how to use your own body appropriately and efficiently, and even when there's pulls or strains that happen, they take the time to show you how to rehabilitate so you can keep seeing your hard work pay off. My body no longer feels like a restraint.
Even more so, after going to their gym for the last few months, the people that I've met there are incredibly friendly, and the environment is always so open relaxed, it feels far more like a community than a franchise gym does. Excellent equipment, always hygienic, I spend most of my free time here haha.
I wouldn't recommend any other gym. If you're looking to throw down and create a better, stronger, badass version of you, this is it!!! You found it!!

I couldn't ask for more. I went on a work trip and had to exercise at your typical big-box gym. By day three I was ready to wrap myself in bacon and jump into a pit of Komodo dragons.

I’m not even sure that they realize the long lasting, life changing impact that they have on people, they just want to share their knowledge and genuine love for fitness and nutrition. They are truly good, kind hearted people with integrity and morals, and it’s so hard to find people that are still like that nowadays.
Seth and Vanessa truly love what they do and they live it, day in and day out, 24/7, 365 days a year. They are the ultimate example of “practice what you preach” and their bodies show it. I moved to Tacoma and wanted to join the gym. I have experience body building and felt I would have been a good fit. I left 2 voicemails, a Facebook message, and an Instagram message, and never heard back. I even showed up at the gym one day, tried knocking on the door but you need to scan to get in and I was locked out. If they aren't accepting new members, it would have been at least nice to know... Instead I was ignored... Poor customer service. I left a voicemail in the month of October, and November, with my name and phone number inquiring about membership, I just messaged you again on IG, you will see my original message from October 20. If you aren't active on Facebook then maybe don't allow messages.

I want to start off by saying how much I appreciate Vanessa (Seth is great too) when I started my fitness journey she gave me great advice on where and how to begin. She sent me a novel and I read every bit of that text message. With her advice I lost 10 lbs in the first 2 months it was small tweaks and sweet little tricks they have up their sleeves, it was the change in my diet that I needed. When they give you advice TAKE IT! I recommend joining ASAP!!

I am so grateful I came to Seth and Vanessa for my competition prep. Not only did they get me stage ready after taking 2 years of competing off. Vanessa brought my posing to a whole new level, she always gave meaningful feedback and made sure she vocalized the things I was doing well. I am so grateful circumstances landed me in this gym! I had never trained anywhere that focused on coaching competitors, because that isn't a goal of mine. I had no idea how useful the skills and experience of coaches who train bodybuilders might be to someone like me: a woman in her 40s with hormonal and muscular imbalances looking to shed fat and get "kinda jacked." My body looks and feels better than it has in a very long time, thanks to Seth and Vanessa's incredible attention to detail in proper form, nutrition coaching, and supernatural ability to know exactly how many reps they can push you to do. I've been at The Training Pit for almost 2 years. I train with both Seth and Vanessa, and have done nutrition coaching with Seth as well.
When I first started, I had some metabolic improvements to make based upon lab work I had done. As of today, my lab work is pristine - All thanks to Seth and his guidance. Best gym I've ever been to. Seth and Vanessa helped me correct form on all my lifts through stretching and focused resistance training. During my time with them, I added 20 lbs of muscle and learned a lot about proper gym habits and dieting.

Thanks to the training pit I don't think I will ever be able to do the military base gyms again. They've become the gold standard on which all future gyms will be weighed.
What began as a temporary gym that was close to my house turned into a 3 year stint that survived 3 different moves. Switching gyms was not an option as far as I was concerned and "is this place close to the Pit?" was a major consideration in each move. Unfortunately my latest move is a 2,300mi drive to the Pit so I was forced to find a new place... Although I still had to weigh the implications of that commute before I decided.
The physical gym itself is great and the vibe is great for anyone trying to improve themselves. You won't see any ridiculousness that you would at a big box gym. You'll see friendly, dedicated individuals who respect each other and the gym equipment itself.
What(who) really make the Training Pit a true gem are the owners and trainers Seth and Vanessa. They are first-class people and accomplished professionals in their training, coaching, and competing. As far as leaving the Training Pit, I was just as disconsolate to leave them as I was the gym itself. You may find another gym with the same or more equipment as the Pit, but you won't find another with these two stellar humans.

Review about the Coaches:
Three years ago, I had a dream of competing in bodybuilding. I looked for bodybuilding coaches near my area and found a different gym with more reviews at that time. I chose to go to that gym, but after talking to the coaches there, I didn't really feel welcome. I felt like I wasn't taken seriously because I was a skinny guy. I ended up revoking my membership there and tried to do it by myself, but there was no improvement in my physique.
Last year, I ended up going to this place and talked to Vanessa the very first time I entered. She's one of the coaches, and you can tell how much passion she has for what she does by talking to her. Anyways, long story short, I just competed in my very first show last weekend! They walked me through every step of the way, taught me the importance of diet, supported me during the prep, and during the competition, they even cheered for me. They are the most inspirational couple in this sport. If you want to compete or just improve your physique, they are the people to talk to. They are very knowledgeable, approachable, and easy to talk to.
Review about the gym:
When I look for a new gym, I am concerned about three things: overcrowding, cleanliness, and equipment.
There are three businesses in this gym: Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu, and the gym itself. This is a good private gym. As long as you don't forget your key fob, the gym is open 24 hours. Parking is hard sometimes because a lot of people are taking classes, but there's a big empty parking lot across the street. I've been working out in this gym for maybe a little over a year, but I never encounter overcrowding in the gym. There will be a lot of people during 6:30 to 7:30 PM because of the fighting classes, but the gym will be available with no one using the equipment.
I'm not sure how often they have cleaners to clean the gym, but the gym is very clean. Most of the people who work out here are kind enough to clean the equipment after working out, so please don't be that guy who doesn't clean equipment after using it. That's a very douchey thing to do.
They also have most of the equipment you need and other equipment you probably won't see in other public gyms. If you see equipment you want to use but don't know how to, you can ask the coaches, and they will be happy to show you how to use it. Like I said, they are very approachable.

This place is a gem! Vanessa and Seth are consummate fitness experts and are highly attentive to detail. Their clients travel to see them from far and wide, rain or shine. Awesome facility with the best trainers. Seth and Vanessa, both IFBB pros, can dial in competitors looks with diet and training like no other. Watched them save my wife a couple weeks out and she placed! All after another coach had dropped her. I don’t compete but require diet, motivation and great form to prevent injury and they provide it all. In my best form ever at 52 and I love going to the gym. Very knowledgeable. No overtraining. No extremes. Very smart with great results.

Absolutely love this gym! It’s full of different kinds of machines and free weights. It’s always clean and people are nice and supportive. The convenience of having 24/7 access is the best thing for a busy schedule. The equipment is always taken care of, and is never out of order for more than a day. The owners are phenomenal athletes and trainers, find a personable approach to every client and it shows! I myself lost over 20 pounds and although i weight 120 most of my life never have i looked and felt as great as i do now!

I’ve been seeing Vanessa and Seth for a few months now and am grateful to train with them! Some people may view personal training as expensive but it is truly an INVESTMENT. I first started here when I moved to Tacoma in November. The Training Pit markets itself as a 24 hour private gym with a focus on bodybuilding and nutritional programming. I hired Seth (co-owner with his wife Vanessa) to train me and help correct some muscular imbalances I had due to structural bone issues in my right foot. Seth helped me resolve my imbalances through corrective exercises and stretching. I am now back to working out without fear of re injury thanks to these guys knowledge and expertise. Couldn’t be more grateful that I’m able to be apart of the best gym in Tacoma and surrounding areas!

As a former athlete, I have been exposed to some great training programs. Now a washed up football player, I started searching for a gym that offered an elite level training program that I was once exposed too. The people at The Training Pit have a great background and vast knowledge of anatomy and training allowing them to structure a one-on-one program to help focus on areas effected by a sports injury or bad posture at work. Their ability to custom tailor workouts will guarantee the results you desire. Not only is the training amazing, but Seth and Vanessa who run the program are awesome to be around. I’ve been body building for years and have been to a lot of gyms. The atmosphere of the Training Pit is amazing. First, walk in and everyone working out is fit and good looking. The owners, Seth and Vanessa, are top tier trainers and the results show. Second, you won’t get any dirty looks here, but also won’t be slowed down or bothered by less serious lifters. Everyone is respectful, nice, but getting after it. Finally, they just moved to a new location off 6th Ave and it is beautiful! Lots of space, extra equipment, and great lighting. I highly recommend this gym if you’re serious about lifting or want to start your fitness journey the right way.

I’ve worked with Seth & Vanessa for about a year now on my nutrition and training. It has been absolutely amazing and they’ve taken my health to all new levels. After struggling with a thyroid disease for the last 12+ years, weigh gain and other dietary issues were impossible to get around. That is until they set my nutrition up to not only help me get more fit, but also adapt to the issues that my body naturally has with my autoimmune condition. I originally found the Training Pit through word of mouth because I was half-way through my first competition prep and in desperate need of an in-person posing coach. I reached out and they immediately got back to me to help me with posing. Vanessa spent hours and hours over the next several months before my first competition helping me with my figure posing. AND THEN--because my prep coach was an online trainer at the time--I didn't have anyone or know anyone in the space to help me on the day of my competition so she drove to down to be with me and help me backstage and help me with cues. I ended up placing 1st at my first competition which absolutely would not have happened without her coaching. She continued to help my with my posing for the next 2 competitions and once my season was over, I immediately changed my training and nutrition to her and her husband, Seth. Now that I'm about to start my second year competing, I couldn't imagine being with anyone else. They've given me guidance and helped me grow in my training, form, nutrition, and in general. They're great people to be around and cultivate a friendly and straight forward environment. As far as the gym itself, they always keep it clean and in order. And when they're there and you're working out on your own, they'll give you tips and cues to help improve your form and mobility. I wouldn't be where I am now without the Training Pit and these two!

Vanessa and Seth are the real deal! I have had numerous "trainers", in the past but none can compare to the knowledge, and professionalism of Vanessa and Seth! I suffered from a shoulder injury that left me unable to work in my job as a Dental Hygienist. I was told by several physicians my career was over. In 2 months Seth had me back working and feeling fabulous!!

A very friendly, professional, and clean gym. Both Seth and Vanessa (the owners) are excellent trainers/coaches of the Training Pit.
A year ago, I had a complete dislocation of my left shoulder. I was pretty devasted since lifting weights is something that I truly enjoy and it felt like something I would never do again.
Well needless to say: Seth and Vanessa made sure that never happened.
Over the course of a year I worked closely with the duo and made impressive improvements. Both these individuals care about their clients and it really showed with the immense amount of attention to detail and effort that I experienced. It was no suprise to me before my shoulder was completely rehabilitated with improved mobility and flexibility!
I also learned a vast amount of information about training with proper form, lifting technique, and diet/nutrition.
At this point they are now teaching me how to bodybuild and compete.
Seth and Vanessa are both extremely positive and have decades of fitness experience and it really shows with my results. They made lifting fun and challenging. They will push you in the right way and always be honest with their feedback. All you have to do is follow instructions.
I honestly could not recommend The Training PIt more than enough whether your goals be to prepare for a bodybuilding show, recomp/lose fat, improve your cardio, rehab a injury, this place has you covered!

As a martial arts instructor and athlete I engage in strenuous physical activity every day of the week. I trust Seth and Vanessa to keep my body functioning at its highest possible level. Whether in regards to my diet, mobility, weight training, or cardio they have specific answers tailored to my goals. They care about everyone at the gym as is evidenced by their constant willingness to answer a question or make a correction. Their knowledge of human performance is second to none, and the results show in their clients. The facility itself provides the space and equipment any client would require to achieve their goals. It is a well organized gym; clean, professional, and without the unnecessary things. The people are nice and respectable. I showed up with past injuries and no weight lifting experience. Seth listened to me and knew what I was dealing with. The process of training with him (over a period of months) was liberating. As I communicated, he made adjustments accordingly and helped me overcome initial fears and discomfort, with knowledge and decision. I made good physical progress during that time and feel recovery and optimum health is possible with time and effort. Working out is enjoyable now and I continue to make progress from what I learned. I can’t say enough about the training pit and Vanessa! she and Seth were so welcoming when my husband and I joined. When I got pregnant Vanessa trained me and worked with me on my nutrition. She was the perfect blend of pushing me to go beyond what I thought I was capable of, but also helping me adjust my routine based on any questions or concerns I had. My pregnancy has been so smooth and I look and feel better than I did even before I was pregnant. I attribute that to her wealth of knowledge in both nutrition and training. Even still she checks in on me and is always there if I need help with anything. I also did some PT with Seth and he is so brilliant with the knowledge he has and the way he explains things. These two are amazing at their trade and we have learned so much from them. My husband and I are more knowledgeable, more disciplined, have better ideas about training and nutrition, and are all around more healthy for having known and worked with them. Amazing place to transform your body. I started with Seth and Vanessa at 270lbs 60% bodyfat. They helped me form a realistic plan to transform to 210lb 10% bf. Seth's meal plans are spot on to reduce fat and maintain lean body mass. Both Seth and Vanessa customize their training plans to fit their clients' goals and abilities, definitely try both. The gym has 24hr access and everyone I've met there is supportive and encouraging.

Open 24 hours, and the owners are super nice and helpful. Good cardio machines though I wish there was a treadmill. Definitely a great place for real bodybuilders to workout at and the monthly prices are a steal!
