The hoops gym is great. My son and I play often and have never had issue with overcrowding or other guests. Staff are friendly and courteous, and always wish a good evening as we leave. Just small things like that add up. Classes look well attended. We mainly play basketball so canβt speak to other areas of club. While the guest pass cost money it is really flexible if you like to bring a lot of different guests.

My three biggest gripes:
1. Members neglect to wipe down equipment or mats after use, and there doesn't seem to be a concerted effort to encourage them to.
2. There are no TRX bands available for member use outside of private PT sessions--l was told l'd need to bring my own.
3. The parking lot is consistently hectic and full, even on a Monday in the middle of the day.
I came from a smaller gym where these weren't issues. Given the higher membership fees here, these issues feel disappointing.

I have been a member for 35 years. The Valley is the best run business I know. The people at the front desk are very pleasant and welcoming. The facility itself is very well maintained. The tennis and fitness coaches are patient and knowledgeable. It makes working out funβ¦almost!

This is the best gym hands down!! Theyβre always extremely clean, have machines in great conditions, have a great cafe and spa, has so many workout rooms so you can always workout and get a great workout in even when itβs really busy!! The staff are so amazing and go above and beyond in customer service! And they have so many amazing things for kids and families which is huge to me!! The owners are absolutely amazing!! I will always have nothing but amazing things to say about this gym!! If youβre debating about if itβs worth it to join it absolutely is and has more to offer than any other gym!

I have been a member for a couple of months . The group class trainers are great . Jennifer sets up β my spot β if she sees my name on the sign up list when I am running late ( thankful ) . Sarah is like an energizer bunny , always so bouncy and positive. She puts you in a good mood .
Lorie puts on a tough workout but thatβs what I appreciate about her .
Diane is very welcoming .
Erynn makes me appreciate the more relaxed classes and I am shocked how unflexibel I am π₯Έ.
Kudos to the clean up crew especially in the spin room and changing rooms .
The majority of front staff is very welcoming .
The only criticism I have is that I found out state workers get a 10% monthly fee reduction but the Government employees do not . That is very disappointing :/ . Maybe this can be brought up to management so there is not a discrimination against Government employees . Thank you for everything you do at the valley .

I was a member of the VAC from January 2018 until the end of August 2025. It is a great facility with genuinely amazing staff. It is an extremely large athletic club and very much not just a typical gym with just free weights, machines and cardio equipment.
Pros:
- It has everything you could possibly need: multiple weight rooms with great equipment; personal trainers; indoor and outdoor pools; jacuzzies/hot tubs; saunas; multiple locker rooms; tennis courts, basketball courts, pickleball courts and racquetball courts; a day spa; snack bar; ample parking.
- The staff are amazing, and I say that about literally every staff member I encountered over more than 7-and-a-half years. I want to name all of them, but I would undoubtedly leave somebody out and nobody deserves to be left out. I used the facility in the evenings, afternoons and (for the past few years) first thing in the morning. Regardless of the time of day, the staff were excellent and became people I care about deeply. I will miss them. A+.
- There is a real sense of community amongst members and staff, with an obvious and genuine caring amongst them. You can tell that people have been involved with the facility for years. I felt like a member of a community and not just a member of an athletic club. I will miss a lot of members who I connected with over the years.
Cons:
- The hours arenβt great, particularly on the weekends. It was a main driver for while I ultimately left. Itβs completely understandable for the size of the facility and the quantity of staff needed to operate it, but the hours of operation just wonβt work with a lot of peoplesβ schedules.
- Itβs expensive. There are 3 membership tiers (gold, silver, bronze). I was a bronze member and at the time of writing I was paying over $87 per month. Had I been using the pools, courts, saunas, etc. it wouldnβt have been unreasonable, but as a strictly weight room(s) user, I couldnβt justify the cost anymore.
- Because of the limited hours and quantity of members, it can get extremely busy/crowded. Fortunately, the facility is large!
If youβre looking for an athletic club with any amenity you could possibly ask for, the VAC is for you. If youβre looking for great staff and a safe community for you and your family, the VAC is for you. Do not expect it to be a budget gym, with weights and cardio and little else.
See you down the road, VAC and thanks for everything!

Sonja Strehmel is a fantastic trainer! I've worked with several trainers in the past, but none come even close. She's incredibly knowledgeable, motivating, and truly passionate about helping her clients reach their goals. Her workouts are challenging yet fun, and she always knows how to push me just the right amount. I've seen amazing resultsβnot just physically, but in my confidence and energy too. If you're looking for someone who genuinely cares and delivers real results, look no further. She's the best!

I am super disappointed that the teenage group of kids do not have any option with pools beside a 3 ft pool for summer. It would have been nice to know that before. My kid is 6 ft tall and not allowed in anything but the kiddy pools. Pretty dumb. There should be some open swim in the lap pool for teens for a couple hours. Other than that the classes are the best part of the Valley.

I went to the Valley Health club and had my hair fixed from a botched Previous cut And Sarah, save the day with 45 years experience and kids. My age, she did a great job. I'm gonna keep coming back and I'm very picky or selective. I should say when it comes to somebody cutting my hair. Her attitude was so positive. And so happy and uplifting. she was great. I highly recommend Sarah . thank you. Have a nice day.

Nice athletic club with all the equipment, pools, tennis courts, b-ball courts, several large rooms with machines of all types to build your body. Several locker rooms with lots of showers, jacuzzi, steam room, plenty of toilets, too. Classes for all ages and fitness levels, great personal trainers. TVs to watch while you work out. Light food & beverages for purchase. Bring your own water bottle to fill as cups are not provided. Not as fancy as a golf club, but golf is pretty boring, and the cost at this club is more reasonable. Municipal golf course next door if you want golf. Member for 25 years!

My son and I love going to the valley! We've spent three days a week there, for the last two years, and we will continue going forever. The staff remembers our names and greets my son as well. When my son fell down once, and their first aid team responded in all the right ways.
Check out the many different workout rooms to find your fit. Also the women's lock room is like a spa. It has jacuzzi sauna and steam room, two sets of shower rooms and two sets of locker rooms women 18 and up only.

I have run couple gyms and know that you do need to make the quota. But 150 dollars for a gym membership???? That's ridiculous. And if you want to bring guests, they have to pay another 15 dollars just to come in with you. This isn't budget friendly, and the place felt like an old rundown YMCA. Definitely make sure to look around for gyms before you consider this one.

This gym is extremely overpriced for how outdated it is β it feels like itβs stuck in the 1970s. Iβve had memberships at plenty of gyms, and unfortunately, this is the best option around Olympia. The equipment is old, worn out, and everything feels sticky β like nothingβs been updated in decades. The layout is bizarre, with way too many rooms and narrow passageways. It honestly feels like they tried to build a secret room for every piece of equipment. The crowd is a strange mix of college-aged guys hogging machines and older members well past their prime. Prices are jacked up simply because there arenβt many alternatives, and on top of all that, there are musty odors lingering in every corner. Overall, itβs just disappointing

I am new to the gym. I was so exited when I got signed up. Today I brought 4 guest. At the pool they where so rude my boy's may not sign up now. Not even cool to freak out when I'm new and my guest haven't been there before. Hopefully this isn't a sign of how this will be. Everyone seemed so nice. So first disappointment. Do better for real

Love the valley been coming since high school. Poor customer service tho!!! Was taken off of my familyβs family plan cause I turned 25 ( which I totally understand) but I was personally never given a reminder (I even worked out there on Monday and nothing was said). Felt very embarrassed going into the gym ready to workout then being told by the entire front staff that I canβt work out because I no longer have a membership.

Besides the fees being too much, it's the only pool around where you can swim anytime. It's a clean club but filled with privileged people who will drop their towel on the floor for an employee to pick up, rather than walk the 2 extra steps it would take to put their towel in the designated bin.
The monthly fees keep going up however. Fancy doors were installed that weren't really needed. A month later, our rates went up. I'll soon have to let my membership end. It's just too much compared to other gyms but if you can afford it, it's for you and I'm sure that's how they want to keep it.

I've been an avid gym goer and daily customer for over a year. I was notified of a billing issue and the need to update my billing info. 2 months after the fact and was charged a late fee. earlier this month.
I discussed this with the younger front desk staff, and paid the amount in full minus the late fee. In the presence of a Manager.
The transaction was signed and I stated I would like to be notified in the future if there are billing issue to avoid interruptions in my routine and lengthy computer corrections, I'm typically on a tight schedule
The following 5 days I was met with the same buzzer and a uninformed front desk associate asking me to stop. Then enquiring about the same old billing problem.
I was told a manager needed to override the alert, I mentioned numerous times this alert needed to be removed. This never happened.
I went to the gym, like I do every morning around 530am.
There's a Blonde older heavy set woman who works every morning and is generally rude, short and unwelcoming. Members just deal with her.
This morning 12/30/2024 she appeared tired and disheveled. Once again I was stopped and told I have to wait while she again verified the billing. I told her this should have been resolved days ago and was visibly displeased with the service.
She cut me off in conversation repeatedly, chose to argue then refused to look up the information.
She pushed an unnecessary power trip.
After a lengthy discourse, I told her I was going to go workout and she could verify the account. I had to work at a hospital and was on a tight schedule.
She then threatened βIll call the copsβ as I walked towards the locker rooms.
Instead of verifying my account and doing her job in a timely, appropriate and courteous manner;
She felt more of a need to further her power trip and force an argument while provoking and threatening a known regular paying member / customer.
10 minutes into the workout three Olympia PD officers walked into the gym. Interrupted my workout and questioned me about the situation.
After discussing the events I was told she requested I be removed from the gym and I could talk with a manager later. I grabbed my bag and was escorted out of the establishment.
This is blatant misuses of a 911 system and a deeply concerning overstep by The Valley Club.
It was embarrassing and completely unnecessary, not only by the Valley Club.
But also Olympia PD who could be focusing on a drug infested, crime ridden Capitol just down the street.
Let's hope they don't continue to have people call an overburdened 911 system and allow public safety officers to do their job instead of ruining members' workouts and responding to petty complaints by childish citizens.

Great club for the area. Definitely the best thing that we have in the area. It is not adults only so you have to be prepared to work out with a group of cauliflower head kids or two. The
machine variety is very good - and the weights go up to well past 100.
Great pool! And awesome hot tub :-) two saunas in each bathroom - men separate from women.

I really like this gym. It is always clean and the staff is very friendly. The only downside is the hours. If you like to visit the gym overnight or late in the evening this is not the place for you. I am not impressed with their policies. I recently had a family member visiting from out of town and they made me pay $15.00 to have them watch a tennis match from a viewing area. They were not there to use the facility, just watch tennis, and they made us pay a fee. I pay approx $125.00(with tax) a month for a single tennis package, plus $43.00 if I want to do a tennis class with 10-30 other people. You would think this would be enough money to cover an observing visitor once in my 9 month membership. Still shaking my head; how greedy and fee obsessed can you be?

Yes yes yes! Where to start? Great teachers who are knowledgeable and motivating. Pools are clean - as are all facilities. Little coffee shop makes a nice latte. Locker rental fee is reasonable. Staff is attentive, but not intrusive. Building layout is a little wonky due to years of expansions, but once you know your way around, it is fine. Outdoor parking is ample. Members are friendly. This is the best club in the area period. It caters to all ages and almost anything you want to do. It is super family friendly, yet also caters to adults. Has 18 and up locker rooms with hot tub steam room and sauna plus other kid free activities. Multiple gyms, huge indoor and outdoor pools, outdoor hot tub and indoor water slide, tennis, etc. Tons of classes like spin, zoomba, yoga, combat workouts, etc. Even have a dark room you can work out in if you're a little shy or just prefer a little more privacy. Great staff that routinely ask if you want water while working out so you don't have to stop. Definitely an upper class club that is regularly maintained. Recommended for all ages who want to live a healthy lifestyle.

June 2022 update.
Six stars might be more accurate. This place handled ALL aspects of Covid mania better than any other business I can think of... AND when masks became optional for the vaccinated their email to members was a masterpiece. (focus of message , "mind your own business, respect people's privacy and let's get along) They held my membership on "pause" from April 2020 through February 2021 until I activated it in March. Oh, and their front desk people are UNPARALLELED!
Bravo TVAC
ππ
A great place for over our last 25 years. Starting to get a little crowded unless you pick an odd time such as 1300 on a weekday , before 0830 on weekends, and right at lunchtime on weekends... so, unless you're retired, weekdays will be crowded.
The Valley DOES do what it can to minimize crowding, but there are times when it's just going to be jammed. So in all fairness I'll add this. They HAVE done a good job of keeping rates down, (ours is under inflation rate over 25 years) and I realize this might be difficult without a certain level of membership increases. And it's a large facility. There IS such a thing as "carrying capacity", however. π
Locker room TV's:
Considering investing in a universal remote for sabotage if soap operas and infomercials keep being shown...
In the end, this place is not just a place to lift or swim or do yoga. It's a community.

Dad took me here as a guest. This is by far the best gym/athletics club that I have ever been to! I particularly love how they have at least 4 separate gym rooms with variations on equipment and set-up.
The assisted pull-up / dip machines were totally new to me. I loved the special stretching machines. Yes, you should be able to do your stretches without special equipment, but it is lots more fun an motivating if you do have such equipment!
If I lived locally, then I would join! Hope to get back as a guest again the next time I am in the Olympia area!

2023 Update: Save yourself and just get a membership somewhere else.
2022 Update: We are still members and it seems things are a bit better. Most of the staff is engaging and pleasant. I havent gone back to the indoor swimming pool since the experience mentioned below.
The place is hit or miss when it comes to customer service. The owner needs to invest in some service training programs for his employees. I've struggled with keeping my membership, but until someone else builds an equally competitive gym (with all the amenities), with better customer service, we are stuck with one option.
Poor service examples and rude experiences include being told, three times in a row, by three different staff, to put my phone away while recording my child swimming after receiving staff permission to do so. I stopped after the first staff person approached me, even after explaining how I had asked and received permission, but they felt it necessary to explain to me the err of my ways two more times, in case I hadnt gotten the clue. It was embarrassing and still really ticks me off.
Showing proof of marriage to my husband so we could have a joint account was the biggest ordeal I've ever had when it comes to account services.
Pluses: The front desk staff is generally kind and friendly. The CAC staff are friendly and professional. The gym is clean and tidy. Maintenance staff are incredibly kind and hard working.
We will continue to have our membership and expect the level of service provided. I am hopeful that some of the changes in customer service continue to ensure a consistent positive experience.

This would be a great facility if the owners were not so greedy. Even at $108/month and a $200 enrollment fee, it is $15 per visit to bring a guest. Even towels and lockers cost extra. Also, If you are interested in joining VAC they do not offer a day pass. It's a shame because it looks like a nice place, but unfortunately they are only concerned with their profits and not with being accommodating or even remotely reasonable. Save your money and go to Briggs YMCA. A way better facility at a fraction of the price.
West Seattle Health Club, a comparable facility, charges $69/month and you can cancel anytime without additional costs/free guest passes.

I've been looking forward to this review.
The Valley saved my life. Long story short, I discovered I needed to incorporate health and wellness into my life before it was too late. The yoga and Body Pump instructors don't even realize the impact they have had and continue to have on my journey.
(Read entirety) I'd like to tell everyone the Valley is overpriced, needs renovations, and has an unfriendly staff - so that no one finds this gem of a club -- but it wouldn't be true. Prices are flexible to meet individual or family members. There are a million things to try, and the expert staff is always willing to advise. The equipment seems modern and heavy.
I work from home.
I commute 20 miles each way everyday to get my Valley time.

Valley Athletic Club is amazing. It is clean and well staffed, and I continue to be impressed with this club.
During the first covid wave, they put their members first. I don't know if people appreciate what that cost them.
Shortly after things began to open up, I tore a ligament in my ankle and broke my toe on the other foot. They gave me a long medical pause on my membership without any hassle. This gave me encouragement to restart as soon as I was steady on my feet again, and getting back to my pool routine helped me heal.
I have never experienced anything but respect and kindness here. The club is staffed with people who genuinely care, and I can imagine they take some abuse but they keep smiling and working hard to make the club a pleasant place for people to work on their fitness goals.
I am often in the pool and have witnessed the life guards use the lift to help people in and out of the pool. They do so with dignity and cheerfulness. I know that empowers people with disabilities to return, and it brightens my outlook too.
I think the VAC treats their staff well, because they generally seem to enjoy their work. I have seen what some inconsiderate clients leave in the showers and even cleaning that up is done with a friendly smile and without complaint. The humility I have seen doesn't seem forced in any way. I have a warm feeling toward all the staff because of what I have consistently experienced there.
By the way, I have the basic membership but that makes ZERO difference in the way I experience the club. They treat everyone the same. The membership levels just provide people who want to do more things more access. I have attended pool classes and never paid a fee for anything except personal training and PT. Oh and their personal trainers? TOP NOTCH! Intuitive, inspiring, productive and caring. All that!
Thank you VAC and ALL the staff, for making me and many other want to be there.
If you are on the fence about joining the Valley, I hope my review will help you decide.

Describing the Valley in three words βterrible customer service .β Staff couldnβt be bother with paying customers questions or request. Many times Iβve encountered more than one rude receptionist. I avoid them whenever possible and absolutely dread every time I have to interact with them.
During the winter months itβs extremely overcrowded which are always busy. Not as exclusive as it once was when itβs was first opened. Reservations are ridiculously restrictive due to the high volume or people wanting to using any tenis or pickle ball court
If you can join other local Athletic Club in the surrounding area I would highly recommend it. Youβll thank me once you notice itβs without the ridiculously overpriced membership fees and overrated facility and itβs amenities.
Customer service gets 1 star simply because this review doesnβt allow no star to post.

This gym has more going on than most in town. As a result it is the most expensive. Front desk staff are usually great. Facilities are just fine.

Great facility! It's always clean and the machines are constantly being wiped down and properly maintained. The outdoor pool is a great bonus. Only drawback is the price is a bit high.

This centre has a bit of everything for everyone. Very family friendly and encouraging the kids to make exercise a part of daily life. Parts of the building are a little old, others new and fresh. The biggest appeal is the incredible discount offered for service members.

I think this is a great place to work out. The staff is very friendly and always smiles. They make a sad day feel better and are always welcoming and I feel safe to be myself. My only recommendation is they install a rock wall.

Excellent customer service and Great modern and well maintained clean equipment with plenty of exercise choices.
A multitude of activities making this a top choice for any recreational need. Additionally, the main pool has an handicap lift for those who want to access the pool.

This is a fantastic facility with everything you need to get your body physically fit and keep it that way. Jordan H. one of the personal trainers has done a awesome job of helping me get my mobility back so I can walk again without assistance. He is a guy that has a vast knowledge of how to help you improve yourself and takes great pride in doing whats best for the customer. The place is very clean and the employees make you feel like you are part of the family.

I do not recommend this gym. Overpriced and service is sub-par.I signed up for a year membership, with itβs ups and downs to this place. After my year is up they are still charging me 2 months post, And will not refund me my money.

Only reason I did not give a 5 star rating is I do not use the club or its immenities. I have had various clients through the years I take there or drop off. They enjoy it. The staff and people I have interacted with were friendly and helpful. Food is great there, so is the coffee. Hair dresser takes amazing care of my current client.

I visited as a tennis tournament participant as a first timer to the club. Extremely impressed from the moment I stepped into the facility and was promptly greeted, then asked for a sign in.
The eight indoor tennis courts recently received an uplift to the lighting. It just took a little getting used to the angle of the glare and then it was fine.
The changing room was very adequate. The snack/food bar was stocked with tasty choices.
Lots of activities for the kids, adults, yoga, squash, racquetball, weights, conditioning programs, swimming....it has many amenities to please and service range of users.
Overall, a very nice facility, certainly a gem for the area and beyond.

This club doesnβt care about its members or keeping them. βSorry you feel that wayβ is their main policy. Donβt waste your money here!
UPDATE: The owners response says it all. No problem with the policies. Problem with clubs value in its members. Willing to let a gold member cancel no problem. Not even checking to see if they can accommodate in anyway! Discovery Aquatics offers SUPERIOR swimming!
