Membership has been spotty here.
I've come into the gym on the weekend to find that no one is working and every cleaning towel is used in the hamper. With no way to clean equipment there's no way I'm going to use them.
I've come in on a weekend to find debris from outside all over the floor from the entrance to the back of the gym, again with no one working.
Some days my badge doesn't even scan and unlock the door after hours, which wastes my pre-workout as I try to contact the owner or other support to get in. The owner just apologizes, but didn't come and let me in...
The owner is trying to save money by reducing staff hours, I guess. What's that do to the kids that work for her? How's that benefit is members that expect a clean and nicely kept community gym? This is our community and the hours she's cutting are the kids in our community.
I feel bad for these kids working for someone like this. I'm cancelling my membership and going a little further into Covington for a different gym.

Members are not valued here. I have spent several years building a community of friends at this gym. On Oct. 1st, 2025, I received a new bank card because my previous one expired. On Oct. 2nd, the Thrive CF payment portal left a voicemail to let me know that my payment info needed to be updated because the payment for October did not go through. On Oct. 3, I came into Thrive, (less than 24 hours after they notified me) went to the front desk and said I need to update my payment. The guy at the desk said ok and there is also a late fee. I said “can the late fee be waived since it is only one day and I needed to update my card. The owner, Tanya, came over and said “yes we can waive the fee.” Then she looked at my account and said “well, actually, I will waive the fee if you give me your direct bank account information instead of the card.” I said that I didn’t feel comfortable giving that information to her and I would prefer to keep it on the card. She said that she would then not waive the fee. When I asked how much the fee is, she told me it was $23. She claimed that the payment company charges a fee when a payment does not go through and that she also has to pay her staff to put in my new credit card information. After further research I found that the fee they charge is only a tiny percentage (like $2 not $23) and that she had imposed that fee herself.
I asked her to just cancel my membership because I felt strong-armed to give her my banking information and not valued as a member who has belonged to the gym for years and always paid on time. She told me that she would send me to collections and then “bye.”
I left in tears.
Once home, I wrote her an email trying to restore the relationship. She didn’t reply.
When I got a call from her billing company the following week, they informed me that she neglected to inform me that I needed to fill out a form to cancel my membership. So I went back to the gym. Only to be told that I had to pay the late fee and the whole month of October in order to fill out the form. One thing of note, when I signed up-I paid for the first month AND the last month upfront. My last month is October (actually my last month was September but apparently that doesn’t count.) So essentially, she held me hostage. I spoke to her on the phone while I was at the gym because she was not in, in order to try to work something out. She was rude and was obstinate and when I told her that I didn’t feel valued as a member, she told me that if she was nice to all two thousand of her members she wouldn’t have any time left to run the business. She yelled at me so loudly on the phone that I physically had to hold the phone away from my ear.
I have never been treated so poorly as a customer.
She finally gave me three options: pay the exorbitant fee, or she would raise my monthly dues by $3.00 or I could give her my bank account number. I said at that point, I would like to just cancel my membership and again asked her to just let me go. She said fine, I’ll take off the fee but you have to pay October and I’m going to put a note in your file to never let you inside the building again and some other veiled threats that I can’t even remember because I was crying at that point and so shocked that this was how she was choosing to handle things.
She then lied in a reply to my Yelp review, saying that she informed me of her late fee policy change, when we had never spoken about it ever. She accused me of threatening her when I never did such a thing. The owner will change policies without notification, she will charge meaningless fees, she will underpay her employees and she will lie about it while continuing to be sarcastic and snarky to her customers.

I love this gym! The staff is so friendly and awesome! They have all the equipment you need and a great and clean atmosphere! I’ve been to a lot of gyms and this one is my favorite! They also have a sauna!!! Which most gyms don’t! The membership pricing is a great value as well!! Thank you Maple Valley Thrive!!!

Cancelled my monthly membership because the elliptical equipment is not in great shape and after working out there a handful of times there was an incident where I’d come in to find a bunch of papers for political solicitation, specifically to collect signatures to further a ballot measure in order to force folks to provide proof of citizenship in order to vote. When I spoke to the owner she said that she personally approved for these papers to be placed out on the unstaffed personal trainer desk. Needless to say it wasn’t a welcoming environment for a workout. Out of all the gyms out there don’t go here.

This gym offers all the essential equipment needed for a solid workout. While it's on the smaller side and lacks some of the more modern amenities or extensive machine variety, it serves its purpose well for those seeking a quick and efficient session. The staff at the front desk are friendly and welcoming, which adds to the overall positive experience.
One feature I particularly appreciate is the availability of individual spray bottles and towels for members to carry during their workout—a thoughtful touch, even if not everyone chooses to use them.
However, one area that could use significant improvement is the men's locker room, shower, and bathroom facilities. During my visit last week, they were in a very poor and unsanitary condition, which detracted from the overall experience.
If you're looking for a no-frills gym with the basics and a helpful staff, this place will meet your needs. If you're after high-end equipment and a wide selection, you may want to explore other options.

The gym has all the equipment you might need however there is always a bunch of things broken or out of order, the hours they are open is not ideal, and in order to even go after hours the prices are insane. Overall it's a decent gym but overpriced, with a lot of neglected equipment.

I absolutely love this gym and the employees there! Always greeted with a hello when I get there and "have a nice day" when I'm leaving. They have everything you need no matter what level you're at.
The other day I had a question about proper form when doing a deadline and Tyron (one of the personal trainers) was happy to help fix my form so I don't get hurt.

I cancelled my membership 0n 1-25-25 with the owner. I was then informed that I would not be charged for the next month. I then discovered a few days later that she drafted $64.13 for the annual administrative fee on 1-25-25 and it posted on 1-27-25. The day I cancel my membership the owner still charges me for the admin fee. Wow! I joined another gym where they have much newer equipment that actually work and was assured that membership rates will not be increased. Did not freeze my membership during covid to help out this business and this is what I get in return.
Reasons for membership termination:
1) Monthly membership rates were raised twice
2) High school kids monopolizing the equipment, using their
phones and talking with each other instead of working out.
3) Treadmills and ellipticals don’t work properly and some don’t work at all.
4) The soap dispensers in the men’s shower has been broken and hasn’t been fixed for a while.
5) The men’s bathroom urinals frequently smell like urine.
6) limited staffing hours

I have been a member for about 4 years and it is a great smaller local gym. The 24/7 access is very convenient and the staff are very nice. However over the past year the cleanliness of floors/equipment is not where it should be. Also a good amount of the machines need repairs and shouldn’t be considered safe for use. It has also become a local hang out spot for teens. So prepare for large groups of teens loitering around machines, taking up space, and being there to just socialize and not workout.

Been going here for 4 years now and for the most part it’s been good, however prices continue to go up while quality declines. In the last year or so I’ve noticed a real lack of maintenance in the men’s locker room. The towel hooks in every shower have been broken off the wall, one of the shower heads is missing so it’s literally just a pipe coming out of the wall, and they seldom look clean. The younger staff do not enforce rules and in the evening teenagers run around acting like knuckleheads and bothering other members. Tonight I saw a kid at the upright row machine literally humping the seat for about five minutes making nearby women uncomfortable. Others will try to ‘hold’ multiple machines at once during busy hours.

Since this gym was closer to my house, I signed up thinking it might replace my current (farther away) gym. However, I will be sticking to my current gym. The place is not hurting for business, but it is so busy it can be very hard to get a workout in while waiting for machines. Not to mention it seems like it operates like a daycare for the nearby high school. The equipment, while not completely horrible, is definitely showing wear, and some machines do not work correctly. Combined with its relatively high asking price, it is a no-go for me.
Unfortunately, even though I canceled my contract on the last day of the "trial period,"(number 7 in "EQUIPMENT, SERVICES, RULES, REGULATIONS AND POLICIES" on the contract) it was somehow still too late for a refund. This made me feel even better about my decision not to stay, even if the owners got a couple of free months from me in the process.

Join at your own risk! Thrive Maple Valley deserves no stars! Spend your money where your membership is appreciated and respected. As a paying member since 2019 (though the owner seems to believe otherwise) and I paid during COVID, I recently decided to cancel my membership due to several ongoing issues:
Facility Problems:
• Frequently broken and unsafe equipment that remains unfixed for months. Then breaks again.
• Overcrowding with teenagers that stand around equipment chatting or on their phones then are hard on the equipment
Membership Issues:
• Changes to membership benefits without proper notification
• Price increases coupled with reduced staffed hours
• Charged during requested account freeze
Unprofessional Management:
The owner's response was shockingly unprofessional when I emailed about canceling. I mentioned it was due to several reasons but did not state them (they were conveyed in an email sent to her back on 12/6/23 when I emailed her about a billing issue so she should of had a clue. Same issues everyone has complained about). I also requested a refund for recent charges. She never asked the reasons why and automatically assumed it was due to the fact she would not credit me back. She accused me of bullying (see image of actual email) and even threatened to prevent me from leaving a review, which is concerning behavior from a business owner. Her snippy unprofessionalism continued when I stopped in to cancel saying I was bullying her and that I was not a fit at this gym. Again she never asked why and I said nothing to her to deserve such treatment.
I've since joined a different gym down the road that offers better value, well-maintained equipment, and friendly staff. The contrast in quality and customer service is significant. Given that the Thrive space was up for lease earlier this year (and probably still is) I hope a more customer-focused business takes over the location in the future.

I was a member here briefly, but I don't feel it's a safe gym. The chest press machine has bent arms and needs serious repair. The multi-functional trainer doesn't lock properly and makes an annoying sound. The floor is ripped and poses a trip hazard. There is more.... and most machines need new padding. It's disappointing that the ownership doesn't maintain the equipment. I spoke to a few other members who said not to bother bringing it up with ownership, as it has been raised before but nothing changes.
Additionally, the gym is overrun with high schoolers who socialize, and play more than they exercise, turning it into a McDonald's PlayPlace. No joke. They spend more time on their phones and take forever to finish a set. A better choice is up the street at Tahoma, which has just reupholstered their equipment.

2 stars is for the owner and their policies. Not flexible, not fair, not user friendly. As many here have said, billing is pain and leaves me utterly frustrated with the owner.
I've been in and out with Thrive for about 2 years. The facility is good. Coaches are wonderful. Price is attractive.
But when one has to deal with pausing or canceling membership, here is where the ugly showes up.
When you join, you have to pay for the 1st and the last month. Today I went in to cancel my membership and I will still be charged for TWO MONTHS from today. Why? Because their policy sais I had to request to cancel before the 25th of the month. No exceptions. Today being the 30th, I am 5 days late. So, I will be charged this month - that i do not want or need!! - and next month, which I had already paid for when I joined. How is this ok?! Extremely frustrating!

Tried to cancel my membership but was still charged the next month. Went in and thought it was fixed after talking to the front desk and manager herself. I get a call a couple months later saying it was sent to collections due to unpaid fees. Attempted to speak to owner, she dodges my calls, I’ve gone in several times but “she’s not here today” or “you just missed her”. I fought the collections and won but it was a hassle. Gym equipment is outdated, other gym goers never wipe down equipment, always hot inside. Take your business and hard earned money to a real American owned business. This one is a scam.

Thrive owner and team
Thank you for everything you have done for me and my family for the last 6+ years. My husband, myself n our 3 kids have enjoyed your facility immensely! Our kiddos enjoy making friends at the kids club n wonder if they will b there each day we go to the gym. The gym allowed my tween to join, and I got to experience the Mother Daughter workout, so cooL! So important to Introduce taking care of the body with exercise n building muscle at that age. The sauna, so wonderful I have no words but I’ll use a few to describe it- rejuvenating n relaxing, every time I walk in I feel like I get a big bear hug, as I sit n reflect I feel empowered like a lioness.
Towel service is great on those days I don’t hv my gym bag in the trunk.
Hydrotherapy massage bed service I’ve had for over a yr now n can only complain that I don’t use it enough.. feels like I paused my angel wings midair while flying over Snoqualmie Falls n getting the full effect of the water on my body……..

Update (6/27/23)
Changing to a 1 star and canceled my membership.
The sign in the photo speaks for itself. As someone who has a family member that is gender fluid, it's a shame to see the gym I attend ask for members to sign a petition that is harmful to those like my family member.
I come to the gym to have a release and escape from the daily grind. Now when I enter Thrive, I'm reminded that there are those out there that don't care for people like my family member.
The business is free to petition for whatever causes they seem just, regardless of the harm they cause. I am free to spend my money elsewhere, which is exactly what I am doing.
I cannot recommend this gym to anyone, and I will refer to the sign they display at their front desk as my justification.

I do not recommend this gym!! After coming in and canceling they still charged me the next 3 months. So I canceled the card. Almost 6 months later I was sent to collections with no notice and for such a small amount I would not have had any issues paying it if I had known.
I joined the gym because they have a kids play area. At the time I was trying to go the kids area was mostly closed or spotty schedule. I had a membership for almost a year and went maybe a handful of times. I would definitely not recommend this gym.

WARNING! Get a membership at your own risk, and hopefully you never have to cancel or interact with the owner. Terrible customer service! I understsand there are policies for a reason, but when a situation falls outside that (which mine did), as someone who works in customer service myself, you work with the guest to make it right. I was told the monthly fee is already scheduled, to which I said if you can pull it you surely can refund it as well. Apparently my monthly fee is worth keeping in return for a one star review. Tanya doesn't listen to the situation, only recites policy. She just cares about her bottom line and taking your money.

Beware of there hidden costs in the contract. I supported this gym all through the pandemic and paid my dues without complaint. Today the 28th of February I go to cancel my membership and they say that I have to give 30 days notice? What is this about? He said as part of my contract I have to pay first and last months membership. I told him look at my attendance I haven’t been in a year so I have paid more than my fair share but he (the manager) refused to listen. I told him I would contest the charges with my bank and write this review but he didn’t care either. They care more about the 43$ then they do about customer service. My biggest regret was helping them through the pandemic by keeping my membership. That will teach me.

Have been going to Thrive in Maple Valley for just over 1-1/2 years. Approaching 70 years old and have 2 knee replacements, but no one has ever criticized me for being a little slower than others or a little weaker. Everybody that I have met has been super friendly and willing to give me some helpful advice when I need it. The workout area is clean and everyone is very conscious about wiping down the machines after each use. I admire the dedication of all of you young kids to exercise so early in the morning before starting your busy days. Keep up the good work and never give up.
Finding out that exercising is like driving a car. After doing it for a while we start doing things that might make it easier but not necessarily getting the right results. I really appreciate it when someone comes up to me and suggests that by making a slight change in how I am doing an exercise that I will get better results. Thank you so much for the people exercising at Thrive for helping me to better myself.

The gym is fine but management is absolutely horrible. I had to email the manager and owner multiple times and they're so dense they couldn't understand what had happened. They either lost my paperwork or "lost" my paperwork and kept charging me. Couldn't get any refunds cause they kept playing dumb. Gave up trying. Cancellation at any other gym has been a breeze.

This gym is a good place to work out, but I am appalled by their customer service. Their contracts are vaguely worded and then they will do absolutely everything, including insisting there are things in the contract that aren’t, to keep your money.
They charged me for an entire year of service even though I came to cancel on the day it was meant to renew and claimed the contract said I had to cancel by a certain date, when it didn’t say that at all (it mentions a certain date for monthly payments, not annual fees).
After asking for a refund I was told the owner would be in contact with me in the next week. After a month of not hearing anything, I finally called and was told someone would call me back. Instead I got an email (not from the owner) telling me I wouldn’t receive a refund. Through a series of emails it was proved to me that the management doesn’t actually care one bit and are just after as much money as they can squeeze from you, even when it violates their own contract. I understand it’s a business but geez. I don’t want to pay for an entire year of a service I am not going to use.
Unfortunately it is now too late to contest the charge, so I hope they enjoy the $40 they took from me. I will never attend this gym again and I will never recommend it.
And, through all of this, I never actually talked to the owner. They never called (or if they did, they didn’t leave a voicemail). Disgusting customer service. What a joke.

Thrive is the best gym I've ever been to. I have been to gyms with many pros and some cons, but I honestly can't find a con with this place. The employees are very friendly, and go out of their way to interact positively with all members (and their kids.) The best part of this place might be the kids' area. It is not just a holding area. It is more of a destination. There are slides and climbing structures like a McDonald's play place, as well as other things to do like Legos and books. All the regular caretakers are fantastic in their own ways. Some are more strict, but honestly, all are there to keep kids safe and happy. The equipment is clean and if there are any out of order they are fixed within a few days. The bathroom is IMMACULATE. The prices are fine. You can pay very little to use the gym in its basic form (no classes or after hours access) or you can ramp up your membership. Prices are fair for sure. There is a sense of community, from the photos of the t-ball teams sponsored by Thrive to the yearly New Years Resolutions signed and personalized by members and staff. There is tanning, which I honestly couldn't care less about, but some people probably like that. You have to pay extra or get a higher end membership for classes, but honestly that's okay with me. I like that the place is so clean and friendly. It's a perfect gym in my opinion. Shout out to Claire and (I hope I"m getting her name right) Dona. They are so nice to my kids, who are not always the best behaved.

I've been attending this gym for about 4 months now and really enjoy it. I have the cheapest membership and am a little disappointed in the weekend hours but generally I have no issues getting in during business hours. My one complaint is that there isn't much room for floor work, but people are usually aware of others and are good to share

The facilities are great! They are always clean, both in the gym and in the locker rooms. There is never a wait for equipment except in the free weight area, but no big deal. The hours are good and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. This is the first gym I’ve ever belonged to that I love getting up and going to. I’m seeing great results after only 3 months. Love it!!

I love the smaller community type gym! I hated walking into the 'big box' gym resulting in never going. When I walk into Thrive CF I'm greeted with a smile and a hello by my first name! The classes are great- good variety meeting everyone's preferences.

Gym is really clean. I've been to others where they have the trainers clean, and that is pretty hit or miss. This one has a guy that comes in every night and really takes care of the place. You can tell he takes pride in his work.
I basically go here because I can work out after my kids go to bed and there is a sauna. Most of the equipment works fine. It's a typical gym. The most important thing to me is that it's clean, and it is.
I only go at night, so I can't really comment on how busy it is or any other stuff you'd do during staff hours.

Nice small community gym and always supportive to the Fire Department members. Would recommend that they have a college student-athlete program at a dis ount like other gyms that can be suspended while at school and restarted on return. If they had such a program my daughter would probably be a member. Too expensive for starving student!

Thrive is a great place to workout. Lots of equipment to choose from. The staff is awesome and helpful! Feels like a local community gym/ fitness center. The only bad thing I can say is, recently they went to a new 24hr access system with the key cards. It has been 2 days in a row that I get ready, drive all the way to the gym and my key card won't work. It's worked for years. They have a number to call for 24hr access problems but when I call, it's just waiting music and no one picks up. Just to try, I called the access number and just set it on my desk on hold to see what would happen. 3 separate times I waited for 30min and no one picked up (I was working remotely from home, not just staring at the phone). If 24hr monitoring is a service Thrive pays for, I would drop that service. It does no good. Lastly, and I know it seems small but, the 24hr access is the only reason I have the membership. Please get this fixed. It's a waste of time and a bad start to the day. Ok, I'm done. Thanks!
*UPDATE*
It's been 4 days with the key card issue. I talked to the gentleman at the front desk and all he can say is they are working on it. No time frame, no guess on when it will be fixed. Ok so, if I come tomorrow at 4am and it doesn't work, I will waste another chunk of my time and gas. As a member, I should have been told about this in the beginning. Not find out by a little paper taped to the door at 4am. The 24hr access feature is the only reason I have this membership. It has wasted my time in the morning drastically. I don't want anything free. I don't want apologies.... I JUST NEED MY KEY CARD TO WORK!

The facility is clean and the equipment is well maintained. There is plenty of equipment for the number of people working out so I have never had to wait for any cardio equipment. (I have only done cardio, I have not tried the strength side so not sure what it is like over there.) As a community fitness location, it is our friends and neighbors who work out there - not just the fitness elite, which is nice. I would recommend it to a person looking for a community fitness center.

Staff was always very courteous, facility was always very clean, and most equipment was adequately maintained. (2 of the 3 stationary bicycles seemed to have issues that couldn't be resolved). I was also a little disappointed by the rigidity of the renewal process. I overlooked my membership expiration date by a couple of weeks and I couldn't get them to waive the 'new member' sign up fee. For that reason I haven't had a membership here for a few years. Parking during busy periods is also a bit of a challenge.

I have been going to thrive regularly for a little over a year now and love it! The staff are super friendly, and really make an effort to get to know you. The equipment is kept very clean and updated, and they keep the entire facility including locker rooms clean and tidy. The gym is not over crowded, and I'm never waiting for a machine. I LOVE kid care...my daughter is 18 months and every time I take her the staff is kind and playing with the kids, not just sitting around watching. Jordan in the kids room is especially kind and fun with the kids. Love this gym!

Not really impressed with the management of the gym. When I joined the gym the hours for regular gym use was 5am to 10pm and if you wanted to go outside of those hours you would have to pay for 24hr use. Then with the new year they reduced the regular use hours to 6am to 9pm and increased the monthly rates. I understand maybe the rate increase but how can you change the hours. I signed up so I could go at that time and now you tell me you are going to charge me more and not allow me to go during the time that you previously promised would be regular hours. I am not going to pay more for 24hrs for times that I was promised when I first joined the gym. Stupid is all I can say.

We recently moved to the area and have been very pleased with the always friendly staff. When they see you pull in they will have you checked in before you get inside. My kids love the play area and have made many friends since we go almost daily. I've never experienced an area that was unclean or that the staff is incompetent as a couple reviewers have said. It is a great small gym feel with all the machines and weights you could possibly need. Nothing but good things to say about them. No contracts, no big social club feeling, and they are always there to help. Thanks Thrive!

Small but clean-ish facility. Nice juice/smoothie bar. Would be much better with trained staff.
Awful customer service. The desk staff is not trained properly to do essential parts of their job such as membership cancellations and answering basic membership questions. A few months back I had asked what it would take to change my membership to 24 hour access, the answer was "well you would have to re join" next it was "pay the enrollment" and finally "come in and we can change it" okay no too much confusion so I didn't. Last month I went in to cancel my membership and the girl at the desk didn't know how and told me to come back. I was not able to come back in time and they charged me another monthly fee, I asked to have it waved the SECOND time I went in, and was told I should have come in before the billing date. Well, I did, but the staff wasn't trained.
I would not recommend this gym. Spend the extra money and go to a gym with competent staff that will provide customer service and answer questions.
