I started hot yoga in Olympia, Washington, back in 2016 at a small eastside studio where Vajra was teaching. From the very first class, I knew I loved moving my body in the heat. I was hooked. We practiced Bikram style. old-schoolers will remember the carpet and the heaters. It was about sweating and getting the heat as high as you could manage, and those classes were hot. I’d leave feeling baptized, born new, like something had been purged from my body. It kept me coming back for more.

Not long after I started at Evergreen State College, Vajra and Christine opened their own studio, True Self. I followed them there without hesitation. Less of a drive, sure, but more than that, I wanted to see what they could create. At first it was just a simple space, maybe two rooms, but man, did they know how to build a hot room. I still haven’t seen its match.

Olympia’s a small town, and part of me felt conflicted leaving my old studio. But Vajra and Christine were young, capable, motivated, beautiful. They were building something special. True Self became one of the most amazing yoga studios I’ve ever been to. It’s where I got my foundation, and where I grew alongside them.

I’ve still never found the same deep dedication to the spiritual roots of the practice as I felt there. They had a real gift for finding remarkable instructors. Every one of them brought something unique. I watched students become teachers, saw the growth, the trainings, and the sense of community that pulled everyone in.

Almost a decade of yoga later, I’m still grateful for the unshakable foundation they gave me. Through their wisdom, guidance, patience, and loving practice, they taught me how to find my center so true that I can always trust my own intuition.

Being true to myself has never once steered me wrong. I can face uncertainty sure-footed, one step at a time, because of the solid foundation they helped me build. This practice has given me a signal in the dark. An inner torch that burns steady and straight, guiding me through the hardest nights into the brightest, most beautiful bastions of harmony and joy.

So to anyone wondering if they should take a yoga class here:
Be careful, it might change your life.

I love you.

We spent the weekend at a Bhakti bliss immersion and attended morning meditation! The classes and offerings here are excellent truly top notch. The yoga studios, outdoor space and grounds are surrounded by trees and make it feel removed from a busy city. This is a wonderful yoga studio for those interested in self expansion of mind, body and soul. All the staff and owners are very caring and authentic and dedicated to serving their clients. A must go to studio in Olympia .

I completed the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training here and, unfortunately, found the experience quite disappointing. For the $3,500 cost, I expected a well-structured, supportive program—but that wasn’t the case.

One major issue was how existing yoga teachers (especially those from the TSY program) were allowed to attend certain guest speaker sessions. They consistently dominated discussions, leaving paying trainees like myself sidelined. In one instance, I was actually met with visible frustration from a TSY teacher when I tried to participate, which made me feel unwelcome in a space I was investing heavily in.

Additionally, one of the lead instructors, Anne, was frequently late or absent without clear communication. The inconsistency and lack of organization made it hard to stay grounded or feel like our time was respected.

Overall, the training didn’t meet the professional or educational standards I was expecting. I would recommend looking into other YTT programs that are better structured and more student-focused.

This studio is one of a kind. I’ve never felt more welcomed and cared for in any yoga or group exercise setting. Becoming a regular here (as a newcomer to the city) has been one of the most fulfilling things I’ve ever experienced. Whether it’s hot hatha, sculpt, flow, or meditation- every class is excellent. But I keep coming back because of the people and the vibe they’ve created. True Self walks the talk.

In all my travels (and I have traveled through most of the United States) - I have never found a more wonderful yoga school than True Self Yoga.
I live in San Diego and I am not able to find a yoga school here that is anywhere near as good as True Self Yoga in Olympia. So, I am currently taking zoom classes with True Self Yoga, though I would far prefer to be taking in-person yoga classes in San Diego if I could find a yoga school nearly as good.
I have been particularly impressed with Jade as an instructor. I do not know to what extent it is her type of classes that has worked so well for me or to what extent her personal influence has worked so well for me. So likely it is the combination of the two factors.

I would like True Self more if passes didn’t expire!!! As a busy mom who loves yoga, it’s difficult to get in quickly and I have lost a couple classes to short expiration dates on passes . Please change this policy, if you purchase 10 class pass you should be able to use no matter what! Otherwise great studio with excellent teachers

I love coming here and am so grateful that I have the opportunity to. I have had nothing but positive experiences here, even when I am feeling my lowest emotionally, I always feel welcome and accepted. I also always leave class feeling much better than when I arrive which has been helping me so much. I’m really grateful to have found this place and to be blessed with the kindness of the teachers here. Thank you Kehle for getting me in here. It means so much to me that you care and every time I see you, you are so uplifting and supportive of me, that means so much to me, it gives me hope. Thank you Julia, Anne, Holly, for being such great, inspiring, and inclusive teachers. I haven’t been to any one else’s classes but I’m sure they are also great:) I love this place and hope to continue coming here for a very long time. It’s one of the greatest things I do for myself each week. You all help me want to be better and keep moving forward. Thank you. 💓🙏🏻

The gentle and yin classes are just my speed & style. My favorite teachers are Julia (for beautiful, peaceful vibes, accompanied by a heavenly voice and instrument) and Anne (for gentle, beginner-friendly guidance, with plenty of snarky humor and the occasional swear mixed in with the zen vibes). Both are so good for my mental health that I finally invested in an annual membership so I can go as often as possible.

At the beginning of this year, I experienced numerous personal losses and found myself wrapped up in grief. When regular exercise didn't help, I tried hot yoga at True Self. What a difference it made. It helped me reconnect with my body in a truly healing way. The classes here are great, and the community shares a sense of camaraderie and commitment to mutual growth. My favorite classes were with Kevin and Laura - these two go out of their way to make their classes affirming and encouraging.

I’ve been practicing yoga for 3 decades. I also travel for work and part of making this travel sustainable is a commitment to finding a yoga class wherever I go. I’ve been to hundreds of yoga studios all over the country. This studio is what I call “the trifecta”: a heart (the studio owner is the lead teacher and they lead with experience integrity and love) a body the facility is outstanding and sign up is modern and easy, a soul: the yoga is there in all of its glory-technique, history, sequence tradition. If you’re looking for the real deal—-this studio has it all.

I moved to Olympia in June from Chicago and was having a lot of trouble feeling connected in this new place. About month ago I found true self yoga via the app 'Mindbody'. I've attended almost weekly since then. Both Vajra and Christina are so warm and the classes always leave me feeling happy. Sessions were outside, today was the first time I experienced one inside due to the air quality. It seemed like everyone kept their mask on throughout, I felt perfectly safe. Adding to my list of places where I find happiness.

There's a reason True Self Yoga consistently gets 5 star reviews--actually, there are many reasons: the quality of the teaching, the beautiful space, the incredibly welcoming community that the owners of the studio, Vajra and Christina, have cultivated...I've been practicing yoga for over 25 years and I've never felt as connected, inspired, or held as I do here. Feels like home. And I'm so, so grateful for the time, effort, and commitment that that the owners have put in during COVID to ensure that we can all continue to practice, together and apart, safely.

In the process of this training however, I have gained so much more. Learning so much of the history, variety, tradition has been incredibly enriching.

And even moreso, the community, sangha, that has been created and nurtured is something I deeply believe our world needs much more of right now.

I also loved the warm room! My usual class back home is taught in a standard temp room. I found the sweat session to be intensely satisfying!
If I’m ever back in Olympia I will absolutely be back! I hope anyone looking for a new (or their first) studio stops by.

All the teachers have been phenomenal, they each have their own tips and tricks, or ways of instructing so I feel like I’ve learned something new with each one. The classes themselves have all been great. Beginner friendly and there is always more advanced options offered as well.

The atmosphere is fantastic too. Super relaxing and calm, and I like that each room is tailored to a specific vibe. I’ve never practiced anywhere before hand to have a real comparison, but I don’t really want to shop around after going here.

I started coming to True Self at the end of July. Over the years I've tried to get into a consistent yoga practice, and haven't yet been able to find a way to stick with it for longer than a week or two. I always feel welcome, and I love that there are always people with all different body types and abilities in all of the classes. The instructors are always supportive and friendly. This place is good vibes only. Other positives: it feels really reasonably comparatively priced, the studio is always clean, great changing room, a variety of instructors to choose from, and classes at all different times. If I have one complaint, it's that the classes sometimes on the mid-day weekends can get really full really fast.

I will definitely be continuing to attend classes here for a long time to come!

Hands down the most welcoming and fulfilling yoga studio I've ever been to. I have tried every class except the hot yoga (which I've been told is great by other classmates) and each one has been a great experience. The common room and yoga studios are first class. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a great, and accepting yoga experience for all ages and people.

This is Olympia’s premiere yoga studio. Two active studios hosting hot yoga in the Fire Room and Flow & Gentle classes in the earth room. The showers and facilities are new and clean and inviting. The instructors are unique, certified, and the classes at TSY offer the greatest variety in town. The best part is the sanga, the people who make up the community: the owners, the instructors and the patrons and students make this place vibrate in health, happiness and well being. You will love True Self Yoga!

This is an exceptional studio with options for everyone! The infra red heat panels warm my soul - especially during our cold and dark northwest winters. The gentle and yoga nidra classes are super restorative and healing. All of the teachers are well trained and the schedule is consistently growing. This is my favorite studio in the world.

This place feels like home to me - wonderful instructors, variety of class options and times, and great community. Their hot classes are excellent!

This is hands-down the best yoga experience I have ever had. The two main instructors, Vajra and Christina, are incredibly knowledgeable, and have a wonderful calmness that seems to fill the room and wash over you during their classes. It is immediately obvious how passionate they are about what they do, and that always take time to connect with each student to ensure they have the most fulfilling experience possible. I have taken classes from some of the other staff and they have been very good as well. Do yourself a favor and try one class- you'll be happy you did!

I can't recommend True Self Yoga enough.

After moving to Olympia, I was delighted to find a studio on the West Side that offered the complete package; hot classes (heated with FAR Infrared Heat!! - the bomb-digity if you are looking for a little extra detox or healing chronic health conditions), yin/gentle flow classes, meditation/yoga nidra, massage, and community events - including True Self's own Quest for Hope scholarship fund. Owner's Christina and Vajra are truly offering an authentic environment to cultivate your "true self" and to bring out the communities highest good. Check them out today & I hope to meet you there!! : )

This is by far my favorite yoga space in Olympia. The heated and unheated classes, dedicated teachers, and beautiful space makes for the my ideal yoga experience. I have committed to a six month pass at True Self. I participate in all different classes and when time allows I even try and go twice in one day. I am excited by the community that this space is creating. I highly recommend checking out True Self Yoga. It is like no other yoga studio in Olympia.

I've been a yogi in Olympia for about 10 years and True Self Yoga is the first studio that meets all of my yoga needs, and then some. When you visit True Self, you don't walk straight into a yoga room like most studios. A large lobby, front desk, and locker rooms welcome you instead. There are two state-of-the-art yoga rooms, which allow for lots of different classes and start times. On Saturday mornings, they even use one of their rooms for free child care while you practice gentle yoga in the other. It's a popular class that I enjoy even though I don't have kids!
During the week, I like to get more of a workout and Christina's Flow classes are right up my alley (medium heat with soothing infrared panels and an anti-microbial floor), and she offers them at tons of convenient times.
If/when you are interested in the more transformative emotional/mental side of yoga, Vajra and Christina are model companions on the path to true self. They are wise, welcoming, funny, and authentic. They've created and hold space for their yogis so well that even the studio seems to have a sense of it's true self.

Practicing at true self yoga has been such a wonderful and transformational experience. I have already seen growth within my own yoga practice from the short amount of time I have been practicing here and am sure I will continue to see growth. I feel seen, held, and taken care of as I practice within this space. True self yoga harvests an environment of individual growth as well as an environment dedicated to creating community. There is so much magic happening within their studio doors, I highly recommend coming and checking it out!

Everything about this studio encourages me to practice yoga. Vajra & Christina are welcoming & radiate positivity. Their joie de vivre and good humor are infectious! The former Shipwreck Beads space is charming and gorgeous, from the beautiful wooden interior to the colorful flags hanging in the trees. The changing rooms are designed well, with great facilities, extra bathrooms, showers and local soap bits available. There's a refillable cold water station and 3 kinds of Kombucha on tap! I'm so grateful I made the choice to join this amazing new West Side studio!

True Self Yoga Studio has been the biggest blessing to come to me in 2016 thus far. Along with the kind and welcoming owners and staff the studio offers a plethora of classes that keep my mind and body connection balanced. Some days of the week I feel like I need a major detox and I have the opportunity to do a hot hatha yoga, while others I feel that doing a meditation based practice is what I need and I can join in on a Yoga Nidra class. It is by far the best studio I have found, Christina and Vajra have created an environment that allows for community development to occur and healing of individuals. While my father was visiting from out of town, I was able to get him to try his first yoga class at True Self. This might of only been able to happen at True Self due to the staff being supportive, welcoming, and helpful to him during his first yoga class. I am truly grateful to have this studio in my life and know my body and mind would be more stressed without it.

Absolutely love this studio! I used to go to a different studio downtown, but it always felt impersonal and just too big. At True Self, it feels like a community. The joy the emanates off of every individual is delightful and the teachers themselves are each unique but I couldn't pick a favorite. Another great thing is the hot yoga! Unlike most studios the heat comes from infra red panels which is a lot less abrasive and more healing. I was actually surprised my first heated class there I made it through the whole thing with out having to take a break.
