I highly recommend Whidbey Island Martial Arts. The school is very clean and professional the atmosphere is unlike none other on the Island. Classes are fun, exciting and all the instructors are very knowledgeable and make the school much more than kicking and punching. The Chief instructor is very involved with the community, and holds his students as number 1 priority. I would recommend this school to anyone that is looking to learn Martial Arts, set goal and learn valuable life skills!

We have been a part of the WIMA family for a few years now and continue to love it through our martial arts journey. I have one son in the tiger program and another that has worked through from tigers to achieving his black belt with the love and support of the instructors. I love the morals they focus on in class that can also be demonstrated outside the dohjang in developing a well rounded individual.

We absolutely love this place! Mr. Fleming is so great and patient with the kiddos! He genuinely cares about his students! Our 4 year old looks forward to taekwondo class every week. He is learning a lot especially with stranger danger! This is also helping him to build confidence :)

Whidbey Island Martial Arts has been such a blessing for my child. It is a family oriented environment that fosters strength, independence, respect and self discipline for all ages. The staff is knowledgeable, compassionate and fun. It has been an honor to be a part of the bear family and I only wish we started sooner.

Absolutely incredible experience. I signed our daughter up for the beginner class, with the two week trial. Due to family interruptions, she was only able to attend a week. They graciously let her continue after we got home with no questions asked. Now she is ecstatic to be part of her tiger class. From the open line of communication to the incredible instructors. I would definitely recommend whidbey island martial arts to anyone thinking of enrolling their kiddos. 10 out of 10!

Classes are fun and easy to follow at all ages and abilities. There is always time for questions and extra help. The owners are patient, understanding and easy to talk too. Good for the basics, competition prep as well as competition level.

The "Bear Cave" is the true definition of family, their moto is the family that kicks together sticks together. There is nothing more true about WIMA and the owners. In two short weeks my daughter decided to drop gymnastics and focus on taekwondo. Over a year later, she is a leader within this club and is well on her way to earning her black belt. She has learned and demonstrates , Respect, Communication, a CAN-Do attitude. The training she has learned here is an investment that she will continue to benefit from for life.

My kids have been training here for almost a whole year now. They absolutely love it and have come a long way. I even started myself just a few months ago. It has been an amazing journey for us all. The owners are the most caring and amazing people you will ever meet. They are passionate at what they do, patient even with the much younger students and love seeing all their students excel. If you are interested, I highly recommend Whidbey Island Martial Arts.

Absolutely the best! This is just not your typical martial arts studio. The owners treat the students like family. The instructors are caring and supporting. They celebrate everyone’s accomplishments and encourage to overcome weaknesses. Our son has excel not only in class but in his personal self.
Communication is great! They are accommodating! They will work with you in anyway possible when there is an issue. They just simply care about you!
Mr. Trevor is an amazing mentor and instructor. If you are looking for a Taekwondo 🥋 place then look no further! This place is the best. They take pride in what they do and are very dedicated to their students. Just show up and you will not just see it but feel the great family atmosphere.

My son needed a self esteem activity to help him build confidence. We took him here and always feel very welcomed and appreciated. My son loves all the instructors and enjoys every class he does. He has grown leaps and bounds with the guidance of the owners/instructors. Great family oriented business! Highly recommended!

This place is AMAZING! It is very friendly and welcoming. It's like a family and everyone is welcome. They show they care about each and everyone that walks through the door. Mr. And Mrs. Fleming are so great and you couldn't ask for better people. There is always good communication and they are always willing to answer every question. There is no such thing is a dumb question for them. My kids have done many different types of martial arts in many different locations, but we have never been to a better place. I would highly recommend this place!

I have 6 and 8 year old girls my oldest has been goin here for 3year, my youngest a year and to say this place has been a blessing is an understatement! They have a perfect balance of learning, fun, and structure both my girls love and need! The Fleming’s are amazing people to work with because it takes a village to raise kids! This place has become like a second family to us and we could not be happier! If you are looking for something to build confidence, teach structure and discipline, add a little fun to your kiddos life I highly recommend this place!!!

I started taking my 5 year old grandson to Whidbey Island Martial Arts in March this year. He needed an organized activity in this insane global pandemic environment we're all living through to burn some pent up energy. The Flemings have been so gracious to keep this studio alive and thriving, giving me the opportunity to provide a structured activity that has allowed my grandson to flourish (kudos to Mrs. Lindsey and Mr. Kris). I had no idea about the ATA program and frankly taekwondo in general, but have come to think coming here has been one of the best decisions this grandpa has made. The price is good, the structure solid and the instructors exude a perfect balance between serious instruction, fun and genuine care for their students. My grandson is learning life skills that I would have on my own never thought to teach him. This is an environment, program and group of people I’d have to highly recommend!

We have two boys, now ages 4 & 6. Let’s just say we have a lot of “physical energy” in our household- and taekwondo has been a perfect outlet to teach them discipline and respect while allowing them to get that energy out. Our older son has been in the tigers program for 2 years, and our younger son almost a year. They have both learned so much; most importantly, confidence and respect.
The “Tiny Tigers” Program for kids ages 3-6 allows small kids to rank up within an animal belt system. The kids are able to see their achievements and stay motivated to progress to the next belt every 2 months. They learn forms, personal protection (stranger danger and anti-bullying diffusion), board breaking and weapons. The classes are fast paced, but the instructors also take time to make sure each child has extra help if they need it, so no one gets frustrated or left behind.
I can’t say enough good things about the instructors; they are the perfect balance of patient and firm. I have watched them be gentle with a child having a bad day who didn’t want to participate- they helped the child through class, encouraging him and allowed him to feel successful instead of feeling down. My 4 year old is the youngest in his class- I have watched him have a hard time with his “bow staff” weapon. Mr. Fleming takes the time to help him with it, an he has made a lot of progress!
Mr. Fleming is very easy to chat with in messenger when I have had questions. He and his wife work very hard to make the school a great place for children and adults to practice taekwondo. The same could be said about the prior owners, and the family oriented feel and professional standards have remained top notch through the transition earlier this year. We are so lucky to have Mr. Fleming, a current world-champion, leading our children’s taekwondo program. The kids like him because he is fun, and I have so much appreciation for his professionalism. We plan to be part of the Whidbey Island Martial Arts family for years to come!

Our family has been practicing ATA Taekwondo here since 2018—starting with the Armstrongs and continuing with Whidbey Island Martial Arts, which has been an awesome experience that has exceeded expectations.
Practicing Taekwondo here has changed our lives. It is truly a positive place to be and everyone is welcomed into the family. The increase in my daughters’ confidence and skills has been amazing to watch. As an adult martial artist, it has also been very special to share this experience with my daughters. I have always felt supported, challenged, and empowered by our instructors. I also appreciate that not only is Taekwondo taught, but also life skills, such as honesty, respect, self-esteem, and communication. This is something that sets ATA schools apart.
I can’t say enough about Mr. Fleming. He is a great communicator, well-organized, and professional (and the students adore him). Most importantly, he is passionate about Taekwondo and truly cares for his students, going above and beyond to help them succeed. He knows his craft and holds two World Titles. We really enjoy training with him and have learned a lot from him. I highly recommend Whidbey Island Martial Arts to people of all ages.

My family has been going to Armstrong Taekwondo, now Whidbey Island Martial Arts, since August of 2019 and we absolutely love it! The school is family friendly and has amazing instructors that teach great core values - respect, self-esteem, communication, discipline, believing in one's self and honesty. The school is very accommodating by having classes for all ages (4+).

New ownership took over Feb 2021. Their day job appears to be much more important than connecting with current students and parents. My husband and I tried several times to coordinate a time to sit down with them and discuss my family’s training and what their plans were moving forward. They did not want to meet. When we finally made an appointment, they canceled last minute claiming to be too busy. This happened twice. The only answer they would give was that they were not going to offer black belt classes, or Legacy classes because they were not qualified. I chose to continue my training elsewhere. 3 weeks later they had black belt and Legacy classes on the schedule.
When my child graduated from the little kids class (Tiny Tiger) to older kids class (K4K), days before testing we were contacted and told that the new class would be at X time on Y days, with no prior discussion. When we voiced our concern that this time was inconvenient and would be difficult to get to on time; we were told too bad, that was the only class for my child. If I had said something sooner, they might have been able to get us into a later class. But, because I didn’t say anything, we were stuck.
It’s difficult to talk to ownership when they’re never onsite. It is now August 2021. I think I’ve seen ownership onsite 5 times, if that. When there, I was ignored and looked through like I wasn’t there or didn’t exist. The earlier in the day the class is, the less likely you are to see ownership.
Every day the blinds are lowered and closed tightly, the door and smaller windows have also been frosted so there is no way for parents to watch classes. This have been the “norm” since before they took over. Even when restrictions were lifted, parents were still not allowed inside to watch classes. For testing, a special occasion, they refused to allow my 70-year-old father in to watch his grandchild test for new rank, claiming they were protecting the children. The only option was to log into zoom to watch. However, the Wi-Fi was so poor the video constantly freezes or pixelates and none of the kids are on camera.
They have a private family Facebook group that is heavily moderated and only a select few members can post. Notices and information are posted last minute or after the fact as well. Monthly schedules are “posted” to the group, but the picture quality is so poor the calendar is unreadable, and copies are not available onsite.
Save yourself the headaches and wasted time and go somewhere else. This school is not at all what it once was, and ownership is clear as mud with communications and letting parents know what is going on.
