I love Basecamp. This is the first gym I have ever been successful at. I just hit my one year anniversary. If you have "failed" at gyms before due to lack of accountability/knowledge about what you are doing/time challenges, this may be a place where you can succeed. Trainers will correct form, teach new moves, and challenge you. Workout is efficient (35 mins, most typical format is 60:10, 60 seconds to do a weight station or bike work, 10 seconds to transition to your new station), changes daily, and has music and lights. I have met new friends there - it is definitely a community. Don't worry if you are new to working out. The only person you are competing against is yourself. Shoutout to Coley who was my trainer tonight. Watch for her classes! She is great!
Update: still attending Basecamp! My favorite Coach Coley was there this morning. She is the greatest of all time. I hit a wall a couple of months in and the thing that made me go, even when I didn't really want to was knowing that Coley would be there. She is truly special and she cares. I have very very high expectations and Coley meets and exceeds those like nothing. I have to attribute much of my success to her. I talk about her at work and most of my coworkers know exactly who Coley is 🤣.
Shout out also to Ziggy! Ziggy is hard core and holds you accountable. The slight adjustments she has made to my form are felt immediately and she really pushes me to my limits.
Basecamp is such a community. I am so happy to be a part of it.
Update! Ken was my coach today for a class format that is always extra challenging for me. Ken is a great motivator in class and is very attentive to form. He is always challenging us to one up ourselves every round. It makes me work harder as I don't want to let him down. Do yourself a favor and just try a class.
Update again! Andre (Dre) recently joined Base East. If you like high energy, you will love Dre. He really focuses on form suggesting alternatives to push you at your level. This is one of the main reasons that I enjoy Base because I like an efficient workout that gives results and if my form is incorrect then I am wasting time, energy, and money. My only feedback is that I wish I would see Dre more at the class time I go to!
Once again, Update! I really like that Basecamp asks for feedback on an ongoing basis. That is how you continue to provide a great experience for clients and ensure their needs are being met. I unexpectedly had Cassie for my coach this morning as another coach was showing up on the app. I was very excited to see her though because I have taken classes with her and love the energy she brings there. Mondays are hard and today was no exception. Cassie motivates in a way that is different from the other coaches and I'm here for it. She was calm in her instructions but it felt like she was speaking directly to me every time. I was extremely dialed in and had a great workout per my watch. I know Cassie is mostly going to be coaching in the afternoons but based on today's workout, I may need to sneak out of work early to attend more of her classes. 🤩
Update: Today is my 2 year anniversary at Base. I have completed 484 classes. I am looking forward to celebrating 500. I continue to love this place because of the progress I have made, the challenge of the workouts, and the people. Some don't feel like their day has started until they have had their first cup of coffee. I feel like my day hasn't started until I have had my Base. 💕

Base Camp is not only a great workout, but the coaches and friends you meet are amazing too! Evolt scans and coaching sessions with Matt hold you accountable and you can’t beat the energy of Andre’s classes. For those that like circuit variety, but get anxiety or stress of not knowing what to do next, they make it easy with the TV prompts to watch the exercise move up next while you’re on the bike. First time at Basecamp Fitness Madison this morning and it was a great experience! Our trainer set the tone right away—welcoming, high energy, and helpful. I was greeted immediately when I walked in, and the new member registration process was super quick and easy.
The workout itself was easy to follow but very challenging physically—in a good way. There were a couple moments I had to dial it back, but it’s definitely a “go at your own pace” environment, which I appreciated. By the end I was drenched in sweat and feeling great.
This was my first group training session like this, and I’m already looking forward to coming back for more. Highly recommend giving it a shot!

One of the best studio fitness / HIIT workouts I’ve done in a while - beats OrangeTheory or Barry’s by a mile. The mix of assault bike and weight training is great to keep the heart rate up but a diversity of exercises to avoid monotony.

I moved to Madison from the east coast and was looking for a new fitness community to help keep me motivated - I have absolutely found it! Basecamp is the community I did not know I needed, and all the coaches and staff are absolutely wonderful. They also provide one on one coaching and Evolt scans, and I have been able to meet with Matt to talk about my progress, struggles, and goals. My coaching meetings have really helped me understand how to work towards my goals in a sustainable and realistic way. One thing I will also note, is even when I struggle or times when I "fall off the wagon", they are viewed as positive learning opportunities and Matt has really made me feel comfortable to talk about all of these topics. I'm so thankful for everyone at Basecamp, I wake up looking forward to my workouts there!

When I moved to Madison, I was worried about getting into a new workout routine but I have loved joining the Basecamp (East) community. I am especially grateful for Coach Matt who has been encouraging and helpful as I get back into weight lifting and HIIT training . I was hesitant to begin doing EVOLT scans but Matt has made me feel super comfortable and I appreciate the one-on-one coaching - specifically, Matt's help with managing my eating habits and protein intake. Highly Recommend Basecamp Fitness!
Flashback to September 2024: I had a 24-hour obstacle course race coming up in early November, and I was stressing out at home. I saw ads for Basecamp and was skeptical because I always work out alone. But from day one, I felt welcome and challenged. The coaches pushed me to do better and taught me proper technique, making all the difference.
In less than two months at Basecamp, I was able to run 35 miles and attempt 140 obstacles. I stayed injury-free and recovered in just a few days. I directly attribute this success to the Basecamp coaches for building my strength, endurance, and mobility. Their expertise, dedication, and personalized approach were phenomenal, always ensuring I was performing at my best and staying motivated.

I sadly had an enjoyable time (more or less).
I have a lot of anxiety associated with the gym, a lot of it stemming childhood and body image issues. These places are pretty intimidating for me, but as far as “pain” goes, my first class went pretty smoothly. The class setting was especially nice because I felt like I kind of got lost in the crowd. Everyone was focused on themselves and not on me. Everyone was going at their own pace and at their own fitness level, which was also really cool. There was very little pressure to push past your own limits.
The staff communicated very clearly via email and phone about what my first day would look like, told me what to bring, and what time to arrive. I met a few of the coaches prior to the class beginning to get a baseline for what my fitness level was and what my goals were.
They were all very nice, and this next bit is super not their fault, but there was a bit of a bro-y vibe that I got from some of the staff that I didn’t really like. I don’t really want to be seen or perceived at the gym, so it came on a little strong/intimidating for me.
In terms of areas of improvement:
1. They cram too many people in the workout room for the actual space. I kept walking into people and some of the equipment was wedged in odd corners. Either build a bigger space or reduce the class capacity. By not doing either of these you’re providing a subpar experience to your members.
2. I love the vax required, mask optional classes, but they don’t have enough of them on the schedule at diverse enough times if you’re like me and won’t work out with the slightest inconvenience.
Special shout out to Tessa who made me feel welcomed for my first visit, even after I canceled 4 times due to various reasons (see the comment for lack of schedule diversity).
I’m not excited to go back, but I am going back. That is about as good of an endorsement from me as you’ll get.
