Have contacted the gym 7x over the past 4 months and they refuse to pause the membership. We initially asked to pause the membership in August and have been charged for September, October, November and annual fee. Would not recommend at all. We have called, stopped in, emailed and have been told it would be taken care of. Four months later we are still having monthly fees taken out and now they are refusing to reimburse or pause the membership. I will be canceling my credit card and definitely would not recommend to anyone. It is a complete scam and not worth the hassle.

Don't join here, they charge you even when you move out of state. You sign up for another Crunch location that is opening in a few months, get told you're switching your membership. You login to the app and it says Madison is home gym, but your membership scan barcode is missing as you haven't been assigned one from your new gym. The new gym opens in three months, you don't expect to be charged $50 for a month that the new location assured you would be "switched over" to this home location. Even my account says I have made $0 so far towards the gym membership, why would I think I owe a months membership fees and now a late fee? Then you call and they're like, no you didn't cancel with us, we don't have access to anything. They could waive this and cancel, but they are not great people here. Apparently, when your grandpa goes through stage 4 pancreatic and dies while you are already moving across the country, you better make sure to call them. Even when you have been told you were switched over BY A DIFFERENT CRUNCH EMPLOYEE. (And after you logged back in, saw the updated mailing address and billing says you have never paid, and you no longer have a barcode on your app. Then, you call to ask for membership at this location, but a 2 hour time difference means you have to remember to call them back. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS AND FLYING BACK FOR AND ALL THIS TERRIBLE STUFF, CRUNCH MADISON WANTS YOUR MONEY ABOVE ALL ELSE

I’ve been training with Ahmed at Crunch for about two years, and he’s awesome! He’s super flexible with scheduling and always adjusts workouts to fit my goals. Every session is challenging but fun, and I’ve seen great progress. Highly recommend him if you want a trainer who really listens and keeps you motivated!

I have been trying to cancel my membership for months and nothing has happened. I get charged every month and they owe me over 100$ dollars. This is a poorly ran business and I recommend not giving them any money

Little update!! Still have yet to be paid out OR HAVE MY MEMBERSHIP CANCELLED. I was even promised in an email from the GM that both would be done. But here we are in November and I’m still getting charged. Can’t wait to make the 6 hour trek to have to cancel a simple membership. Oh! And possibly get a lawyer involved!

The gym was fine while working out there - but since I moved I have sent 4 cancellation requests over a year in to no avail. I’m literally having to contact my bank to have them stop payment towards them. It seems like a pretty fraudulent billing practice to make cancelling that difficult

I had been going to crunch since it opened and not until I got a trainer did I really begin to see the difference. Thanks to Ahmed, I was able to go the extra mile and got the support I really needed and I believe all of us need! He catered to my goals and nutritional needs without any fuzz! He’s a fun trainer who is devoted to seeing us succeed and push ourselves above and beyond what we might believe we’re capable of! I recommend him trying out some sessions with him! He’s so flexible to make things workout for you and is willing to work with you to meet your goals. Ahmed is a trainer that not only care about your physical changes but will teach you and guide you through the process so that you see long lasting results and change your perspective on what being healthy looks like! Not only focusing on the exercise but the human overall! Thanks for all your patience and hard work, Ahmed! May God continue to bless your hard work. May the dedication and help you provide to others continue to be strengthened as you train more!

Decent/standard gym for the price. Adequate amount of cardio machines and equipment even to handle the huge after work crowd. Many squat racks, which is wonderful. For the most part, it's well-maintained and clean. One thing to be aware of is the 30 day CANCELLATION FEE. Obviously it's written in the contract that I definitely (did not) read when I signed it (and that as I'm trying to cancel am realizing they failed to actually send me and is inaccessible through the app) So when you're needing to cancel, do it 30 days in advance to when you actually want to stop going/stop payment (yes even if it's before the next billing cycle). Annoying, but typical for this caliber of gym.

Edit: I see the manager's response. Will update this review based on how easy it is to actually cancel and not be charged going forward.

UPDATE: Shower has been fixed and they checked in with me!

I have been BEGGING them to fix their showers for over a year now. My company pays for this gym membership so ideally I would like to continue working out here, but the showers are freezing cold every single morning. I mean colder than the water that comes out of the water fountains. Crunch advertises "hot showers" on their website as well as "clean locker rooms", two things they fail on daily. PLEASE can you get this fixed.

Equipment is always in great shape and plenty of machines/treadmills. My only gripe is the bathroom. For the past couple weeks, 2 out of the 3 showers in the men’s lockeroom have been out of order.. leaving only the handicap shower. That shower stinks of urine too.. Restroom trash cans were usually overflowing, and paper towel dispensers have been empty.

Friendly staff, alot of weights to get through your entire workout, and pretty clean overall. Bathroom needs to be kept up a bit more but the gym floor is always being cleaned. Energy and pwo drink prices are good as well if you forget yours. Plan prices are affordable too

I was charged for two memberships when I only had one membership for 6 months because their website duplicated my account on accident..Seems convenient. I’ve spent 3 months trying to get a refund with no email responses and very little interaction with staff who is able to help. I’ve called over 10 times and visited several times in person and they’ve always said they’d have someone who can deal with the issue call me back only to never be called about the matter ever. I’m annoyed and out several hundred bucks. In addition, the weights are never distributed correctly, the paper towel and spray is always out, and while the sauna is the main draw for me using the gym now the door is broken.

The equipments are great, but pricing feels like a scam at times. A $5 added charge was added to this month’s payment because the initial charge was declined by my bank account.

I called on the same day and went directly to the gym to get try getting this fee waived (since i’m not past due), but they told me it can’t be waived, since this fee is added after the first failed charge. Super disappointed with how this thing is handled overall, and the whole experience feels very scammy.

The 2 stars are for the solid equipments and facility, but I’m disappointed with how they’re handling this situation overall.

I WOULD RATHER PREFER A BEGGAR THAN A THIEF.
I paid for 1 month and used for a month. and i left the town. The website tells you to cancel through user account portal. there is no option in portal. There is this somewhat hidden webpage which you can use to cancel it. i did that. they charged me for months after sending cancellation request.

I called them (outsourced call center) "According to the agreement I signed, i have to be in person to cancel it". i cannot open the agreement to read it(broken link). I had to fly to them to cancel it. the email mentioned 114$ due, their website mentioned 144 dues, i went in-person and i had to pay 176. 0 star experience, terrible management.
You cannot freeze the account, they will keep charging you even if you remove your card.
Frustrating, predator behavior . I wanted to lash out so bad.

The guy(staff/owner) who replies to these comments lies blatantly.
The equipment are plenty and good.(5star on the gym aspect)

I signed up for personal training at Crunch after a couple years of feeling stuck in the gym and not seeing results. I had a really positive experience training with Hunter G at Crunch over the last few months. He is welcoming and friendly but professional and always kept my goals and any physical constraints in mind for our workouts. He gave me the confidence to try new exercises that I didn’t think I could do and never would have tried on my own. He was always motivating, kept things interesting with a variety of workouts from week to week and helped me stay on track with my nutrition goals even when I was traveling or just busy with summer plans.
After a few months of training, I feel stronger, more confident in and out of the gym, and overall have a lot more energy. I would recommend the Crunch Personal Training and Hunter for anybody looking to work with a trainer!

I had a great experience working out with Ahmed. During my time working with him I experienced some significant health issues not related to my workouts.
Ahmed listened and worked with me as I was regaining my strength. He came up with routines that worked well with my diminished abilities. I am now back to normal and have learned many things that have become part of my daily routine. He is very patient and concerned about how I was progressing. He would also share many tips about my diet that also helped me. I Would strongly recommend him as a personal trainer.

PLEASE READ BEFORE ENROLLING! Crunch makes it damn near IMPOSSIBLE to cancel your membership, and if you can somehow convince them to allow you to cancel, you'll be hit with 'cancellation fees' among other random charges. Their customer service team is very rude, and the man I spoke with blamed a billing issue (I was double-charged) on his "stupid computer". Best of luck dealing with this establishment, and I suggest you take your business elsewhere.

Over the past six months, my fitness trainer, Hunter G, has been an incredible guide on my health and fitness journey. From the very beginning, he took the time to understand my goals and created a personalized plan (overall total body recomp) that pushed me while still feeling achievable. His encouragement and accountability kept me consistent, even on the days I didn’t feel motivated.

What I’ve appreciated most is his knowledge and attention to detail—he not only demonstrated the right form and techniques, but also explained why each movement mattered. I feel stronger, more confident, and healthier than I did when I started. This has been more than just workouts—it’s been a lifestyle change, and I couldn’t have done it without his guidance.

If you’re looking for someone who genuinely cares about your progress and knows how to help you get results, I can’t recommend him enough.

Love the actual gym, went there for a couple years and it was great. Super disappointed in management though - I cancelled my membership back in April wanting it to end in June since I was moving. It ended up being cancelled in May (whatever, not that big of a deal), but I have been getting hundreds of emails and calls about a balance on my account. I continue to call the gym, either to be told and manager isn’t there or one would call me back, which has never happened. The few times I’ve been able to talk to a manager, they assure me they’ll fix the charges on my account and that the calls and emails will stop - or even better they tell me that they’ve fixed it! And then I get call after call and email after email and it’s ridiculous. I shouldn’t have to call this gym 18 times to stop being harassed every day.

Echoing literally dozens of other complaints, they make it impossible to cancel this gym membership, and the employees aren’t even polite about it.

Meet Josh, the disappearing manager!

I don’t live in Madison and signed up for the month I was staying here, then tried to cancel after. Since there is no way to cancel online, I got in touch with a manager via email, who then quit and left no forwarding address or notice. When I called the gym literally dozens of times, I was told that the all mighty Josh was the only one who could cancel my account, and he was mysteriously always in a meeting or unavailable. Weird!

I tried to cancel since March. Finally, 4 months later I was back in town, and literally had to show up multiple times IN PERSON to finally get Josh to cancel my account, and even then they made me pay a $52 “annual fee” to do so. When I asked Josh why he couldn’t pick up the phone or call me back, he said since I had reported them to the FTC, he wasn’t “supposed” to talk to me. I’m guessing they have some sort of quota system where they have to keep a certain number of members or something, since literally dozens of other people have experienced the same thing.

Anyway, have a great day, Josh, and maybe learn to treat people like people!

Oh, and a tip for anyone else who gets stuck in this same situation, ask for a manager to “sign up” at the front desk, and he *might* finally appear :) good luck!

Update August 1 2025:

I just got a call from a debt collector on behalf of crunch saying my account was STILL not paid, and never received any sort of confirmation that I had canceled. This has truly been the worst experience I have ever had with any business, and the reply that they are "unaware of any issues" is laughable.

Terrible experience because no it is not just as simple as stopping by to cancel. Especially when I was told by management that it could be done over the phone since I moved across the country. Having sent multiple emails and called multiple times to then reply to a review by saying, that is just not the case. You make it look like somthing actually could or would be done about canceling and yet it still will not happen.

Your reply is a complete lie. I was never told to send a letter and my girlfriend who moved with me was able to just send you an email with the explanation and proof of a new residence. I was told to contact management through the phone and when I finally got through I was told to send an email. I have sent multiple emails to the email account you have given me and I have not heard a single reply.

Edit: Appreciate you responding to a review when I was given no responses to the numerous emails and phone calls. I explained every time I had moved out of state. Thankfully I am taken care of now, my partner is STILL being charged. I just want people to know what happens when you attempt to cancel.

Not recommending this place to anyone. If you ever try and cancel they will continue to charge you and not respond. I went months before they finally canceled mine but others are over 7 months with no action. Unacceptable! Never again! If I could give negative stars I would.

Horrible horrible experience. I moved literally across the country over 6 months ago and contacted them multiple times through email and called multiple times to talk with the GM and did not receive a single response or call back. In the emails I show proof of a new residence and pleaded with them to contact me back. I will never join this gym again and will continue to tell others not to join also. They make it incredibly difficult and near impossible to cancel the membership. We even tried to just transfer memberships to where I live now to then cancel after but they would not even respond back to another Crunch gym.

So was that just lip service replying to my review and then I send again 3 emails and you still do not cancel nor even reply to my emails. In order for me to stop paying you for a service I have asked repeatedly to cancel I will just have to open a new checking account and close the one where you keep pulling from. I will just continue to let people know not to join this horrendous place.

Been going here since it first launched so I know what I'm talking about.
It's a nice gym with friendly staff. They have nice facilities and are cheap which has kept me coming back all this time.
With that being said though, they are very sneaky with the charges as other people have mentioned. This is a characteristic of literally every gym on earth though, they will make it impossible to cancel your membership and even secretly charge you after you thought you canceled. Nothing out of the ordinary for gyms though, which is sad but true. I would try to temporarily cancel my membership when I go back to school, and would consistently find it impossible to do.
Another thing that has affected me lately is the A/C. I am the type of person that almost never sweats no matter what, and for the past month or two I have found myself consistently DRENCHED in sweat after 30 minutes of working out here. It feels like whatever temperature it is outside, it is the same in the gym. This makes it a big hassle to work out when I have my own secreted saltwater pouring into my eyes.
Lastly, leg machines. Not exaggerating, need three times as many leg curl and leg extension machines. These are movements that are almost impossible to replicate without a machine. They currently have 2 of each, and the odds of any of them being vacant at any given time are less than you winning the powerball.
Also not sure what happened to the 5lb increment weights that used to be all over the place near the cable machines. They vanished one day and that makes it hard to make incremental progress on cable exercises. I assume people were stealing them or something though so can't really fault them there.
Everything else considered this is a great gym. PLEASE FIX THE A/C THO

EDIT: The owner replied saying they recovered my watch. They did NOT. The police even said the cameras didnt provide any official evidence.

I cancelled my membership after my watch was stolen by staff. I had forgotten my watch there and realized after I had gotten home. I called within 40 minutes of leaving the gym. Staff recovered my watch and placed it in staff lost and found. I returned LESS THAN 24 hours later the next morning to collect it. GONE. Never returned to me as it wasn't in the lost and found. Cameras were unable to help. Due to that, police were unable to do anything.
To top this off, other reviews mentioning doors being locked upon opening hours still, have been true in the past.
Cleanliness is subpar at best. Bathroom mirrors filthy, floors filthy. Often a failure to resupply paper towel and spray on the gym floor for equipment.

Since the assistant manager Justin told me last month that he would work on getting me a refund. I have tried to follow up and I’ve emailed him multiple times and still haven’t heard from him since. I contacted them about this issue originally in the beginning of December and Justin told me that he cancelled my subscription/membership but today I got charged again for an subscription/membership that I haven’t had since August. All I have to say is that if you want to sign up for crunch be willing to pay for the rest of your life because they want nothing but your money and they hope that you’ll never notice the money that they’ll take from your bank accounts. I truly wish no one else has to go through this but considering they won’t contact me back or refund me or even cancel my subscription/membership I just want everyone to know what they might be signing up for.

The facilities are fairly good, plenty of racks for deadlifts and benches and the Sauna being a highlight. However - crunch is incredibly unethical regarding memberships. They deceitfully keep charging you for as long as possible even after your subscription period ends and despite good faith attempts to cancel it. Customer service was rude as well.

I go to the gym regularly and sometimes I take my 13 year old son with me. I have never had any problems taking him with me, but this time there was a girl named Chloe who attended to me with an attitude, raising her tone of voice and asking for my son's identification to which I asked why since I had already taken my son several times. She gave me the tablet to register my son and walked away muttering bad words under her breath that my son heard. I don't want to specify the words, but I think that personnel like that should not be hired. I will make the report to the manager personally. That type of offense should not be tolerated. I always see people with children coming in. I honestly don't know what her bad attitude was due to, but it could be (misinterpreted).

I stopped going due to how dirty the place was consistently. The showers and sauna were consistently filthy. The showers had scale and hair all over and often had no hot water (at first I started showering at work to avoid the lack of warm water in the dead of winter). The sauna is filled with salt from people's sweat drying and not being cleaned up. But the worst thing of all is how cold they kept the place in the winter. I had to work out in full sweats to keep myself from shivering and even the employees kept winter coats on and would step into the sauna to try and warm up. I've canceled my membership and gone elsewhere.

BARELY a 2/5….I wouldn’t go back if I had a free membership.

It’s new-ish (2 years old converted from Shopco) and that’s the only thing this place has going for it.

From the beginning it was poorly designed - poor temperature control / bad HVAC, tiny locker rooms, dirty / non-functional saunas that don’t drain - broken lights in the sauna, and they play HORRIBLE music - only shitty electronic remixes. One water bottle refill station that is very slow. There is a literal stain of crap in the men’s corner stall on the wall that has been there for months. The equipment is just dirty too… they clearly don’t clean underneath any of the machines either(which routinely break down).
Generally this is a 3/5 on its best day - very average, and if you’re lucky, average you will get.

Worst part of the gym is the personal trainers who seem to think that general gym etiquette doesn’t apply to them. Your immature personal trainers are bad for the gym culture you desperately need - it’s working against you and many of the members that I’m friends with are growing tired of the staff. It is clear that for many of the trainers, this is their first time being one.

I’ll be joining another gym in Madison.

Crunch Madison has the dirtiest gym bathroom I've ever been in and pretty unfriendly staff.

During peak hours there are many people standing by machines for a long time without using them. Most people are not wiping down the equipment after using it. I've seen Crunch trainers not wiping down equipment after use which is unhygienic as well as unprofessional.

They are not 24/7 on Monday as their hours on Google state. They open around 6am or so.

The gym equipment is new and the space is huge which is the only reason I'm giving this a two star review instead of one star.

Ok for the price. A little pushy when it comes to trying to get you to sign up for working with a trainer, but that’s their style, so it’s understandable.

Lately the equipment has started to go through its first cycle of needing repair. Sometimes these items are broken for weeks at a time. Like the front door - no handle on one of the four doors. Weekend crew (mostly Sundays) don't even look up from their phones when I check in. Music is obnoxiously loud. TV service is sometimes broken/down for weeks at a time. Nearly every bench has broken vinyl on it, and I’ll be surprised if they get repaired anytime soon.

We went inside and canceled our plans. We did not receive any emails confirming it, but we had been told we were all set. Come may 2024, I had realized they had still been charging me and my partner $20 a month. We lost $180 each to their idiocy, and because we don’t have any proof, we can’t get that money back.

They accidentally set up a duplicate account and were billing us twice for several months. They apparently do not review their accounting records very closely, because they were charging for two memberships under the exact same personal information and picture. I caught it and then anytime we have tried to get the billing resolved, both in person and over the phone, the manager has refused to speak to me. This was their mistake, I did not cause it, but I discovered it and simply asked to be refunded for the duplicate charges. It has been almost a month and they have not refunded us yet. I am not impressed at all with the manager. Everyone else that has tried to get us in contact with the manager has been very nice and helpful, but they cannot actually do anything without the manager.

UPDATE-- After calling everyday for weeks, I finally got angry enough and threatened to file legal action and the manager actually called me back. He tried to pretend like this was the first he was ever hearing of this situation despite the fact that I personally witnessed paperwork being placed in his office by the assistant manager and I had spoken with nearly every person that works at the front desk. He was rude and talked down to me. His resolution was unacceptable as it would end up costing me money. He never even apologized for the duplicate account and the double billing. Terrible manager. I feel sad for anyone who has to work for him. For the third time I was told that I will see a refund on my credit card in 5-7 business days. I sure hope it actually happens this time.

I joined Crunch right after it opened. It felt new, open, clean, and everyone was friendly. Over time, I noticed several changes which lead me to cancel. It became crowded and dirty, and leading me to decide to join another gym.

1. Understaffed- The place is huge, and has quite a few people that work out there daily but heavily after work. However after 6:30pm or so, Crunch only has 1-2 employees staffed- who only are at the front desk. Nobody is cleaning the bathrooms or the facility. After 7pm it felt like the wild west in the building.

2. Cleanliness- every single time I have visited the last several months- trash was overflowing in the bathroom, floors were dirty, and they never had towels to clean the equipment after use. Therefore, nobody wiped anything down- for months. I felt when I got home every time I needed to take a chemical bath.

3. Crowded- When visiting after work (anytime between 5-8:30pm) it was hard to get on machines and felt like a stampede. Only after 9pm did things clear.

Pros- this place has literally everything that you can think of. It is the most stocked gym I have seen and they have something for everyone. The equipment is still fairly new (although some leg machine fabric is starting to rip), but everything was nice. It's cheap, and is mass appealing.

Unfortunately the front desk staff here are pretty nasty. I called to ask whether payment schedules are on a fixed date or based on when you sign up. The first person said “I’m not sure” and hung up. I called back, talked to another guy, he said “you have to come into the club for me to tell you”. I was wanting to ask about a spam text I received from crunch - lol, like crunch texted me first. I asked if I could get information over the phone. He only repeated “it’s different prices online than when you come into the club”. I asked if the people on the phone are the same folks in the club, and what the difference between the phone and the club were. And he hung up. I was as polite as I could be in trying to understand why I can’t get information from calling, and their response to hang up in the middle of the conversation was rude. I’ve worked several service jobs before and understand that there are limitations/policies to follow, such as, you can’t buy a plan over the phone, you have to come in to sign up. But they didn’t even try to treat me like a person when I was asking a fairly simple question. I’m sure they genuinely don’t care about their job or the company, which is fine I guess, but basic human decency is another thing.

I joined this gym at the encouragement of my husband and because I was excited at the idea of going to fitness classes. I really wanted to like this gym. I went to my other gym 3-4 times a week and after switching memberships, this gym did everything but motivate me to go work out.
I almost got hit in the parking lot more times then I even went into the gym. You can only reserve a spot in the fitness classes 24 hours ahead of time, so no planning in advance. There were no dumbbells lighter than 20lbs, limited machines, TVs rarely working (only on/working 2 or 3 times I went in), small locker rooms/bathrooms. There was sanitizer spaced around by different machines but I rarely saw anyone use it, trainers included. Most of the people I walked by or that almost walked into me were rude and made this a place I did not want to go to.
As someone who is plus sized, I was judged and stared at by those working out as well as by staff members. It said no judgement in different places, but I definitely was stared at multiple times by multiple people. I was asked multiple times (by phone call and on my way past the check in desk) by staff if I wanted personal training even after saying I did not want any.
When I went to cancel my membership, I was told "I don't like hearing that." The staff member went on to say that I was not able to cancel my membership until it had been active for 60 days. And then even after that, it would take another 30 days to fully cancel my membership so I would probably get charged for the monthly fee and the annual fee.
Switching gyms and trying Crunch is probably one of my worst mistakes of 2024. Definitely wish I had read all these reviews before leaving my previous gym.

Crunch is canceled, if i could leave 0 stars i would. staff and equipment and location was always nice but the higher up company is too much. i was repeatedly double charged and it was a hassle to settle it out. this problem happens to a majority of their customers if you just look it up on google and even asking my friends that go there, they experience similar issues. one of my friends was sent to collections due to an outstanding charge of $25, not making this up. it takes more money to process that collection than the collection fee itself. they’re annoying and scammers fr. when i tried to cancel in person, i was told to email, when i did that, i was charged the following month because my membership was not actually canceled, and then i was allowed to suddenly cancel over the phone??? i’m getting worked up just typing this up, crunch is my #1 archenemy now

Visited for my training appointment, thinking I’d really only benefit from the full body scan. I met Graham Gits, the personal trainer assigned for my visit. I quickly let him know I didn’t really want to go through the questionnaire and just wanted the body scan, communicating that I really didn’t want to waste his time.

Graham was great with it and pivoted very well. We threw the paper out the window and started to sincerely talking about my shoulder issue and my recently broken ankle. I explained that the shoulder pain had held me from my bench and shoulder goals.

We went to the floor and Graham demonstrated/walked me through a couple of movements that I think will help a ton! Potentially resolving (or at the very least improved) a shoulder problem that’s been with me for years in just 15 mins!

All in all, Graham Gits was absolutely fantastic. Easy to talk to, more than knowledgeable around shoulder and knee biomechanics and fitness, and genuinely interested in fitness and helping others achieve their fitness goals.

If you ever go to this location, ask for Graham Gits! Or otherwise known as, “the shoulder and knee guy” :)
