I began my journey with CFS after I turned 40. I was going to the gym 5-6 days a week doing cardio and lifting weights. Going way back to the beginning; at the time, I was feeling stuck. Physically, I wasn’t where I wanted to be — not just in terms of appearance, but energy, strength, and confidence. I had been working out in my home-gym on and off, trying different programs I found online, but nothing seemed to really work or stick. I started working out with CFS three months ago. I signed up for the gym membership and I’m also doing the nutrition plan. Custom Fitness Specialists is such a special find! In the fall of 2022, I was looking for a kick start on my health and wellness journey. I had always loved bootcamp classes in the past and lived an active lifestyle overall. I felt that I ate “pretty good”, but my energy had dipped and I needed a new direction as I entered my mid-forties. I reached out to Lisa for a consult after reviewing some incredible before and after photos on instagram. She was so knowledgable and positive in assisting me with a nutrition plan. I first met with Lisa in June of 2021 after debating back and forth whether a nutrition program was the right move for me. I have been fairly active most my life, through triathlon and now crossfit, but nutrition was a huge pain point for me. I can confidently say I have tried and failed most “diet” plans over the past years from keto to cutting out flour/sugar to counting calories that were randomly generated on the internet and was constantly frustrated that I wasn’t getting anywhere.

The only thing I regret is not meeting with Lisa earlier! She sat down with me and we worked through goal setting and a nutrition plan for the following 24 weeks. She was with me every step of the way with food ideas, tips to maintain consistency, and to answer all of my questions. Through vacations, weddings, changing careers, AND moving - I saw an 11% drop in body fat and a noticeable increase in strength in my workouts. I now have the tools I need to maintain my goals and I couldn’t have done it without CFS.

I’ve worked with Lisa for quite some time but I was never fully committed and Lisa never gave up helping me. I was a difficult person to figure out. I was a nutrition client at first and then switched after a steady weight loss to contest prep.

A year ago I was at my heaviest and I was in a pretty low place with how I looked and felt. I hired Lisa because my wedding was a few months away and she came HIGHLY recommended. We started with an initial consultation with measurements, defining goals, and a plan for eating was laid out in simple terms. We did weekly check-ins where I uploaded progress pics and Lisa checked in on MyFitnessPlan. The pictures terrified me at first but then became a good accountability piece and I actually looked forward to seeing them and the results I was getting! Lisa was amazing with listening to my struggles, giving me ideas for any little thing I was craving, as well as being a big motivation factor to keep pushing. I learned a TON about portion control, goals for protein consumption, and how eliminating dairy makes me feel much better. I am ecstatic about the results I got! Not only the physical results- losing 9% body fat, feeling more energized, and sleeping much better, but also the lifelong skills I learned. I began my fitness journey with Custom Fitness Specialists after learning about physique competitions from a current prep client competing in Figure. I met with Lisa in March of 2021 and since that day have been fully invested in my natural bodybuilding journey as a bikini competitor.

I was always involved in sports since I can remember, whether it be track and field, tennis, basketball, etc. I never really focused on lifting weights. As I got older, I turned to long distance running, which I enjoyed, but after having some knee issues decided it was time to give my body a break. When I met with Lisa in March I had just began focusing on weightlifting. My goal was to build my ideal body. A body that was strong and I was proud of.

It can be very overwhelming delving head on into a sport you know very little about, but Lisa reassured me I could do it and she was right! Lisa has always made sure she is available to answer any questions or concerns about, nutrition, training, show prep, really anything and everything! I have always felt very supported by Lisa and the Custom Fitness team.

I competed in my first show in Sept at NANBF Midwest Muscle Fest. The outcome couldn’t have been better, as I won my Pro card. It’s difficult to always trust the process, especially when you are your hardest critic, but I put all my trust that Lisa would ensure I bring the best package to the stage. She delivered and, in every show, since then I have only improved further. This first season has been incredible and I know my best is yet to come. I've not only become stronger both physically and mentally, but my confidence has grown.

I’ve always had an aversion to the concept of a “diet”. With a son and two daughters, I wanted them to see me be active, respect my body and still get a DQ blizzard with them now and then. I would describe myself as inconsistently active; committed to yoga, completed a couple (sprint) triathlons but if I’m being honest, I never made my fitness a priority. And I have all the excuses everyone uses. Three active kids, a busy career with travel, weekends filled with sport tournaments, nights in hotels, long work dinners, happy hours, early morning starts, stress … rinse and repeat. I figured I had age on my side, and I was doing “okay” with my fitness. And then…life hit me hard as I turned 50. Menopause (changing metabolism). Increased stress (my mom was diagnosed with dementia). Then, COVID and quarantine (need I say more?). I wouldn’t be exaggerating to say I had Dot’s pretzels and a bourbon old fashioned for dinner a couple nights each week during the Winter of 2020.

I knew I needed something transformational to pull me out of my slump. In February of 2021, I saw a social media post from a friend I hadn’t seen in a while. She looked amazing - and she had tagged her gym. It wasn’t a friend I knew very well, but maybe that’s what was most intriguing. I was at my most vulnerable state ever and wanted to “hide” my weight and state of unhealthiness. I searched Customer Fitness Specialists, booked a date for a free consultation with the owner Lisa and signed up for nutrition consulting and weight training before I left her office that day.

Lisa asked me to start tracking Macros – essentially the big three macronutrients Protein, Fat, and Carbs. This was a new concept for me, and I was intrigued. I could eat whatever I wanted to eat provided I stayed within my daily Macro goals. I’m not saying it was easy, but I adapted and figured it out. Prior to CFS, I was not only undereating but eating improperly. So much learning! I have two big takeaways in my 7-month journey so far. First, for me, there’s a huge psychological aspect to counting macros that doesn’t feel restrictive. I have goals to meet, but I am in control of my choices and tradeoffs. Second, as someone who works in the financial services industry, I can best describe counting macros as akin to managing your finances. You must live within your budget, and you have 100% control of your priorities and tradeoffs. So, yes, I can even budget for a bourbon old fashioned by managing the tradeoffs.

As someone who primarily did yoga, I was intimidated by weight training. I had never touched a barbell before March of 2021 and I would never have imagined how powerful it feels to deadlift 180 lbs at age 54. The small class size allows for the trainers to guide and focus me on proper form and weight for each exercise.

It has taken time, patience, and sacrifices. I’ve been frustrated. But I’ve also been proud that I showed up for myself and am giving myself the gift of self-care. That’s the best role model I can be for my kids. I am not always motivated to get to the gym for the daily grind. But I’ve learned that discipline trumps motivation every damn day. Because when you’re not motivated (which will happen), you can lean on discipline to get you through.

I’m far from complete in my journey after 7 months, but let’s talk results to date. I have lost 20+ pounds and over 15% body fat. But equally important - I feel strong and powerful and healthy! And I’ve found a new framily (friend x family) in the exceptional trainers and the people I work out with every day. After dabbling in various gym memberships for years, I have found my home at Custom Fitness Specialists.

You workout everyday and you think you eat “pretty healthy”. On the weekends you let loose a little bit and you feel like you did pretty good on your nutrition. Only to find out that the scale hasn’t budged or even worse, you gained weight. Sound familiar? Well that was exactly me. I work out 6-7 days of the week for 30-60 min but I never saw the results I wanted. When I met with Lisa finally realized I never really learned how to eat properly. I have been working with Lisa on my nutrition in the months leading up to my wedding and let me say... if you are on the fence with whether or not to reach out for coaching, DO NOT WAIT! I discovered Lisa after a recommendation from a friend, and boy am I happy that I did. I was able to meet my weight loss goals over the course of a few months using a sustainable and healthy calorie intake and macro breakdown. Through Lisa's advisement, I also was able to optimize my "gains" at the gym and am lifting heavier weights than ever before. I started at Custom Fitness Specialists in Feb. of 2021 after a long year of 'sheltering in place' as COVID put its claws into everyone and everything. I reached out to a friend who was a loyal client of LIsa's and she guided me and helped me make my decision. I am so glad I connected with Lisa and learned more. I have been an endurance athlete most of my adult life. However, as COVID set in and all of the restrictions were in place, I found it harder and harder to be motivated, especially with the Wisconsin winters in full force.
I have NEVER lifted weights... I didn't even know how to put the bumper plates onto the barbell... seriously. Each of her trainers stepped in during every class and gave me one on one assistance as I needed it. They didn't make me feel foolish or embarrassed, they simply helped and encouraged me. I was starting at zero and I have come a long way, thanks to Custom Fitness Specialists.
In addition to the workouts, I also signed up for nutrition coaching. At one time, I exercised so I had a permission slip to eat whatever I wanted. As I age and metabolism slows down, that rookie plan was NOT working for me and I knew I needed some extra help. Lisa weighed me and used calipers on me to measure body fat-all without judgement or criticism. We put a plan in place, I learned about the apps I needed to use in order to be accountable and off we went.
I am SO happy to say (as of June 6th, 2021) that I have lost 7 inches around my waistline and I feel amazing! I have lost fat and gained muscle and I am eating within the guidelines of what Lisa's plan is. I don't go to bed hungry, I am so pleased with my plan!

CFS and Lisa were highly recommended to me when I felt like I had plateaued with my fitness journey. I enjoyed the structured group lifting classes -- I received feedback on my form from the trainers and was encouraged to challenge myself more. As a result, I've increased my PRs on all major lifts significantly and have seen my physique transform. All the coaches and people who lift at CFS have been so enjoyable. I made strength gains and friendship gains!

The other missing ingredient for me in developing the physique I wanted was a proper nutrition plan. Lisa worked with me to give me macros based plan. After a few weeks with her encouragement, I was able to consistently eat the right amounts of carbs, protein, and fat every day to support my training while also helping my body recomp. I stayed consistent and checked in with Lisa each week. She adjusted the macros ratios based on how my body responded amd was always available to answer my questions. I lost fat and put on muscle at the same time! Overall, in 9 months, I lost 11% bodyfat.

I recommend CFS for those who want to see results! Put in the work, follow your coach's instructions, and be consistent. I'm glad I stopped trying to figure it all out on my own because I progressed so much more after joining CFS!

My husband and I started at Custom Fitness Specialists to get ready for our wedding. We started with the nutrition program and shortly after decided to join the group fitness classes as our home gym was too cold throughout the winter. We had such a great experience!

Lisa created a nutrition program for us based on our goals. We checked in weekly via email and monthly for measurements. My husband and I have both been involved in the fitness and nutrition world for years, but Lisa had a new take on it that got results while allowing for flexibility in food choice. I especially appreciated her professional & direct feedback about what measures it would take to get the results we want.

We also loved the gym atmosphere. Lisa hires knowledgeable and fun coaches that give us a variety of movements every week. We work hard, and the programming is never boring or repetitive. I knew of Lisa and CFS by reputation for many years but it took me awhile to reach out and get started. I wish I had not delayed. I started as as nutrition client in Jan, 2021. Even though I had been strength training for many years, I had lost my way nutritionally after the death of my father and gained 20 lbs. I needed help to learn my macros and encouragement to stick with the plan. Lisa gave me both.

She is amazing. She increased my calories from 1350 to 1750 and I saw results from the beginning. I wasn't as interested in the number on the scale as I was in reducing body fat %, gaining lean muscle mass and continuing my strength gains. I got that and more. I significantly increased PRs on all of my major lifts and started doing pull ups again for the first time in 2 years. By the end of the program I had lost just over 13% body fat and could not be more thrilled with my results. The best part is that the program is completely sustainable for me for the rest of my life. I am, no, WAS, on of those yo-yo workout people that couldn’t really stick with a class or gym for a long period of time. CFS is the ONLY place I’ve ever been able to stay consistent with. I love CFS! I learned about CFS through my friend and I did not regret joining. I love how Lisa, the fitness trainer have different workout routines set up for every workout sessions. You don't have to worry about having to go to the gym and be lost or contemplate about what machine or workout routine you should do next. Everything is laid out and planned for you by the trainer for that workout session. Lisa models everything for you and personally checks-in with you to make sure you are doing ok.
