I was dealing with patellofemoral pain syndrome (knee pain) for years. I tried physical therapy, MRIs, and rest, all of which have their place and can help many people, but in my case the pain always came back, especially when hiking downhill or even running for a few minutes on a treadmill.

After joining D1 Training the difference has been remarkable. Within a month I went from struggling with lunges and squats to completing full workouts pain free. Even more incredible, I was able to hike Quandary Peak, a Colorado 14er — something I had nearly given up on.

Physical therapy gave me tools, but D1 gave me the strength and balance my knees needed in real life. I truly feel like I am getting my active lifestyle back, and for me that is priceless.

I can’t say I ever truly look forward to working out. It’s the IDEA of it that I usually dread and it’s as its strongest the day before my scheduled workout. That feeling quickly goes away however at the day of the workout! The coaches are very nice and the classes(?) are very tiring, yet rewarding. While the coaches never really actively PUSH you into pushing yourself, they encourage you to test your limits and are there for your exercising journey every step of the way. Getting to work out with other people is also very fun as you can make little friend groups there like my dad did. All in all, this place is MUCH better than a gym you can get a subscription for and then just go whenever you want. It’s like exercise lessons and it’s fun. 10/10, would recommend.

My experience at D1 Madison can only be described as an absolute pleasure. The facility feels much bigger than it actually is, which means that its space is thoughtfully designed.

I participated in the 6 week challenge and lost ~ 15 lbs while gaining muscle and improving my conditioning. Carrie, the owner, is an absolute gem who leads by example by often if not always participating in the workouts herself. The coaches are superbly knowledgeable and also personable.

UPDATE 12/18/2023:
I am coming up on one full year here at D1 Madison West and I have tremendous gratitude for this facility, Carrie (the owner), the coaches (Nick and Jon especially), and the awesome people I meet here who are also striving to optimize their physical and mental fitness. Let’s keep it going!

I've been a D1 member for 5 weeks. I was looking for an experience that was focused on keeping me lean, strong, and healthy while giving me that extra encouragement to routinely get to the gym.

Work and life had given me plenty of excuses over the couple years prior to always be "busy" with something else. D1, and their fantastic staff, welcomed me from the moment I set foot in the door and have provided that extra something I needed to re-prioritize my personal fitness.

After 5 weeks I'm feeling more energized, focused, and able. I'm seeing progress with my overall fitness already and know beyond all doubt that continuing my journey at D1 will allow me to not only achieve the goals I had when I walked in the door, but far exceed them.

My two teenage boys participated in a trial workout yesterday and walked off the floor exhausted with smiles on their faces a mile wide. They start their fitness journey at D1 this week.

UPDATE: When I signed up for my first D1 workout, I told the owner that I was looking for a gym that would help me stay consistent. I had been in the gym off and on for years, but was never successful in more than a 1 year streak before “life would get busy” and gym time was the first thing to go.

Fast forward almost 3 years, and I’m still consistently in the gym 3+ times a week! The D1 community and the focus on results keeps me coming back day after day.

I turned 50 this year and am stronger than I was in my 20’s. If you’re in that rut knowing that you need to get into the gym but just missing the motivation to get off the couch and start, I’d highly recommend giving D1 a try.

In March 2024 I decided I needed to do something to get back into shape after realizing none of my clothing fit any longer and spending the winter in sweat pants and realizing even those were suddenly too tight. Additionally, I had had several injuries recently due to lack of strength and I realized I needed to do something different because my work is quite strenuous and I knew I would have even more issues when the new season started. I had been a member of several gyms in the area over the years but I know myself and I know that I am not great at being self motivated when it comes to working out, and none of the classes offered worked with my schedule. I'm not a fan of spin classes and it seems like those are the only early morning offerings at most of the gyms I had been a part of. I saw an ad for a six week program at D1 and decided to make an appointment to meet with them. It was more costly than I had initially planned to spend, but I decided to just invest in myself and do it. The 6-week program includes some serious accountability, you're on a pretty strict diet that is very high in protein and low in carbs and fats. As a vegetarian it was pretty challenging, my husband did it along with me and he eats meat so it was a little easier for him to get the protein in. So many of the proteins I had relied on in the past are very high in fat and carbohydrates and I never really realized it before. It was a complete change from the diet I had had for the past year and more on track with what I had been doing years beforehand. You have to take a picture of every meal and send it to them in the app so you're held accountable. Plus you are able to go to work out 6 days a week. I lost 10 lbs in the challenge and was able to fit in all of my clothes again. After the 6 week challenge ended I couldn't imagine going back to doing what I was doing before, (nothing)so my husband and I both joined and have continued going between 3 and 5 days a week. I have lost another 5 lb since then and had to completely buy a new wardrobe again after donating all of my smaller clothes last year thinking I would never fit in them again! I am stronger than I have been in years and it's exciting to continue to see changes in my body. I love being able to take time every day for me and feel super energized after the workout. I love that it is a lot of the same people every single day in the class that I do and that we all cheer each other on. It's definitely a more serious workout than I had ever done by myself or in any of the classes I took at some of the other gyms in town.
Update at one year: The 5:30 am class at D1 is still my favorite part of the day! I am the strongest I've ever been and looking forward to getting up and starting my day with that group of people, cheering each other on and motivating each other to do a little more each day!
Update at one and a half years:
My routine of starting out my day at D1 is still my favorite way to wake up! Although my bed still calls to me some days, I've never had a regret about getting up and going in!

As a younger female I used to go to Orange Theory, then took a year off of working out due to injury before joining D1 Madison West. Since starting the adult group classes here, I’ve gotten so much stronger. I attribute that to the larger emphasis on strength training and proper form, which has really helped keep my chronic injuries from flaring up.

The accountability and tracking D1 provides is more than I’ve experienced at any other gym, and it keeps me motivated to keep showing up. The coaches and staff are phenomenal. They are all super knowledgeable, encouraging, and always ready with modifications so people of all skill and injury levels can participate safely.

As an introvert, I didn’t expect to build such great friendships here, but the community has truly been amazing. Joining D1 has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for both my fitness and overall well-being. Highly recommend!

We live in Florida and came to visit my family in Madison for 2 weeks in the summer. My 15 year old son who is going to be a sophomore plays football and Track. He has been training here in Florida all summer for his upcoming football season and we were concerned how to keep him active and continue to progress while being away for 2 weeks. I looked into several places including D1 Training in West Madison. I left messages explaining our unique situation. I got a call back from Carrie, who was incredibly helpful.
considering we hand a busy schedule while in town I had concerns of:

- Not being able to commit to a certain number of sessions
- Times of training sessions
- What small group classes fit my sons needs for football
- Skill training that is geared towards his football position
- Right age group
- Cost
- Coaching staff, and their experience

After our phone call, Carrie put together a program specifically for My son and what she thought would work best. Along with a few other options, to help fit our budget. It honestly felt as though she listen and solved all of my concerns.
Fast forward to While we were there, My son loved the coaching and training staff, He also made a few friends that he enjoyed working out with. He enjoyed the workouts so much that we ended up added more sessions, I only think he missed one day of training the whole time we were there.

I have had experience with work out programs, where the training staff made you feel cared for in the beginning. And as the weeks go on it slowly felt as though we were just another slot they were trying to fill.
But with Carrie and the D1 Training staff, even though they knew My son was going to leave after two weeks, they stayed committed to his athletic development all the way through his last session. I feel like that really says a lot for what D1 Training is all about.
So big Thanks to D1 Training.

We absolutely loved our experience at D1 Madison! We were visiting from D1 Gainesville and wanted to keep up the workouts for my daughters (ages 9 and 15). The facilities are excellent, and the coaching was top-notch.

Everyone is encouraging, uplifting, motivating, fun and will do most anything to put a smile on your face. I will say, you get out what you put in so results will speak to that. Highly recommend this gym and community! While I was attending I was met with such grace and understanding in my goals and lifestyle. While the discipline and food log took some getting used to it definitely paid off. Had to exit from the membership due to some family and financial hardships but the tools they instilled in my 4 months of attendance still going pretty strong. D1 Madison West 6 week challenge.

D1 exceeded all my expectations! The online coaching was exceptional - my coach was always available through the app and provided constant support and motivation. The nutrition plan was not as restrictedas as I thought for someone like me that likes to eat. Carrie helped me to focus on sustainable habits/meal plans rather than restrictive dieting. The workouts were challenging but adaptable to my fitness level, and worked my way up gradualy with clear instructions and form guidance. Over six weeks, I lost close to 15 pounds, lowering my body fat and increasing muscle. The group I like to train with is in the mornings. I have to say the enviroment is fun, motivating and we push ourselves to do more. There's even a few of us who like to stay and get a couple extra reps of abbs and push ups. Kind of a culture now. Looking back of the times that I thought...wanted...complained... I new I needed a little push. I decided to invest in me. Best desicion ever! I gained more than what I paid for, confidence. The coaches, John, Quin, Zane, Sophie and their new addition coach Stephanie have been nothing but wounderful in my journey. STEP 1: SIGN UP!

I was reluctant to sign up and scared to start. I didn’t think I could make such a big change in 6 weeks but I was wrong.

For me, the most important part of the program (and one I had always been missing in my prior programs) was Accountability. The 6-week program provided daily check-ins regarding nutrition, meal plans, and work outs – and so much positive energy! It was so encouraging to know that someone else was putting time and effort into my fitness – this was not a solo journey. In fact, the supportive community I found at D1 was an unexpected bonus. From the owner, Carrie, to the coaches – Quinn and Jonathan, and to my “teammates” - I have felt welcomed and supported by all – I am so grateful.

I really cannot say enough about how positive my experience has been. I feel so much healthier and the work I have put into this program has had a ripple effect in all other areas. I feel more like myself again.

After 6 weeks I lost over 10 lbs., gained muscle mass, flexibility and strength.

The great thing about finding something special is you are grateful for the benefit it brings to you. The bad thing when you find something so transformative is you wish you found it sooner. I was compelled to write this review for two reasons: First, is the striking impact the program is having on both my children. Second, as someone who recently retired after 32 years of professional coaching at an elite level, it was refreshing to see an organization so committed in its adherence to “best in class” developmental pedagogy for athletes.

Our oldest found this exceptional program and staff in his senior year of high school basketball. I’m convinced that if he found this option sooner in his career, his trajectory would have been different. Nonetheless, he has moved on to secure a scholarship in Junior College to play basketball and D1 certainly deserves a lot of credit for expediting that condensed journey to helping him fulfill a dream.

Our youngest is now in the program as a sophomore and he said something to me on our way back from training the other day that best quantifies the D1 experience and value proposition. He said, “I can’t wait for high school season to start. I’m so ready to prove myself. I’ve never been this confident about my mind and body and its ability to perform”.

While D1 subscribes to the science of strength, power, agility and balance training where the programs is sequential and periodized to match the needs and ambitions of the athlete, it takes a more comprehensive view of the development process. They commit to a holistic developmental model; challenging the athletes mental dexterity; monitoring and educating them on fueling their body to perform; increasing awareness and implementing techniques to maintain emotional health and balance.

The staff of professionals at D1 are exceptional. They are ready to meet students where they are at in their journey and are ready to accompany them all the way to realizing their ambitions. It’s in personalizing the relationship with each athlete, the staff feel like active participants, coaches, not just instructors, challenging and pushing athletes to test the boundaries of what they are capable of.

This program is well deserving of your attention. It is a serious development option for any athlete who wants to improve.

D1 has by far been the best gym I’ve ever been to and I highly recommend it to everyone! The coaches are knowledgable and passionate about your success and the workouts are challenging but fun and super effective at getting results. The coaches do an excellent job of demonstrating proper form and making lifting less intimidating and more accessible to beginners.

The other members are also extremely supportive, and training here provides a team atmosphere there is motivational and fun as we all work towards our goals. I have been going to D1 for a few months, gyms make me anxious and I feel judged BUT even though I was hesitant about D1 because I have no athletic experience they sure prove me wrong! Everyone is so welcoming, they help each other and I have NEVER felt judged, I ask the same question every-time, I usually need reassurance for everything and the staff always answers the same question kindly and in a nice way. And when you think you can’t keep up the whole team will cheer you up to keep going.

I signed up and was looking forward to it. Then I got terribly sick and got an infection. I ended up in the hospital and needed surgery. I was out for the entire summer. I asked for some money back since I was only there for 3 days. I asked for some refund and they refused,...against their policy. I signed up in good faith and was looking forward. But with these business practices, no thanks. Also, the 6 week free intro is not free! You have to pay $600.00 up front, that is nowhere on their advertisement. Nor the price of their membership after the 6 weeks. Why isnt any pricing on their website? Ladies and Gentleman, this is a franchise and this is part of their sales and business plan. My first month going to D1 has been a blast so far. I have not been the type to enjoy workouts but rather “get through them” and I can honestly say I look forward to going to the classes. I have never stayed consistent with a gym routine despite being a veteran and having discipline instilled in me, however, the ease of scheduling, class times and variety of workouts make it very easy to stick with it. The environment, coaches and the other attendees are all friendly, motivating and helpful to the best of their abilities. I would highly recommend D1 to everyone! I first came to D1 Madison West a little over a year ago as a high school basketball player knowing very little about weight training and working out. The trainers and fellow gym members were very understanding and hospitable, and encouraged me at all times! Not long after joining, just about every lift/agility drill skyrocketed. The trainers are very knowledgeable in what they do, and I’m still learning things that can better my training journey over a year later. The best part is being able to work out with other people that have the same goal in mind. It can be difficult to motivate yourself to go and workout by yourself, but it’s much easier when you have a whole group of people and coaches that are holding you accountable and encouraging you to workout every day! I genuinely look forward to lifting every day! All the coaches are very personable and down to earth people that I find myself seeing more as friends than just as trainers. I’ve been at D1 for well over a year now. I cannot recommend D1 enough. I went to D1 originally to increase my athleticism. You was fit, but I became very fit. I was dead lifting 250 and running at least 28 miles a week at a 7:30 pace. I LOVED going to D1, then my pesky brain aneurysm. I was in the ICU and then semi bedrest for months. I had severe reactions to the medications keeping me alive. My body was not athletic. I could hardly lift 10lbs and needed a cane to walk. Carrie, the owner of D1, kept in constant contact even though my account was possibly on permanent hold. She met me out for coffee and the whole team wrote me lovely get well notes. When I came back I was a bit nervous about D1 still working for me. I was so happy because it did. I’m still at a 20lb limit and can’t do many things in the written workout. However the trainers are amazing and finding alternatives to make me part of the workouts. Sometimes we have to do a little math and find out how to keep me in my limit. I cannot recommend D1 enough! Just an amazing place that will help you no matter what!

I went there when I saw an ad on Instagram promoting a free 6-week course but before I knew it I was spending $300 on a nutrition plan that I didn’t need. The sales tactics are aggressive. They will convince you that you need something you don’t - and if you are intimidated by gyms then it’s hard to say no!

If you are looking for serious weight training then I don’t think this place is for you… they only get to the lifting after 15-20 minutes of cardio/sprinting and your body is already quite fatigued. My advice is to go here if you are looking to boost your endurance but not if you’re looking to lift. And don’t do the nutrition plan - it is not customized and you could find everything in it with a google search. There was no deep discussion of macros, the “why” behind the diet, or anything like that (What I would expect for $300). Since they respond to most reviews I’m sure they’ll tell me all the ways I’m wrong here… but with 80 5-star reviews I figured I’d offer a different take. 2 stars because the workouts are free for veterans.

I never thought I would voluntarily wake up each day for a 5:30 AM workout again after leaving the Army, but I find myself waking up before my alarm clock to race to D1! My friends and colleagues are also starting to attend various adult group classes at D1, so it’s fun to see which ones show up every morning. My favorite part of every day is the first cooldown stretching exercise after the workout. I’m usually exhausted and dripping with sweat while crawling on all fours to the center mat for the cooldown. It’s an amazing feeling to workout so hard with everyone else working just as hard. It builds a similar sense of family I used to feel in the military when we all got “smoked” in basic training, but we somehow had fun when we all finally realized we were doing it together, not individually! We became a team, and D1 brings back that sense of kinship. Thanks to all the coaches at D1 for making this possible!

I am actually from Green Bay. We had a D1 here but unfortunately it closed, but not before my son spent a few years working out at D1 while he was in high school. The preparedness and knowledge he gained at D1 helped him with track & field, cross country, his overall health and well being and on his journey to be accepted to the United States Naval Academy. During this time, my husband joined our son working out at D1. My husband fondly refers to the time spent working out at D1 with our son as some of the best times in his life. The bonding, camaraderie the coaches and fun times were special to them. His D1 sweatshirt reminds him of these times and is his favorite article of clothing. This sweatshirt is so worn and falling apart but I have not been able to get another one as our D1 is closed. I reached out to Carrie and told her of my desperate search for a sweatshirt to buy for my husband. Although they are not a retail storefront, I was able to buy one and she and her husband took their own personal time to mail it to me so we have in time for Christmas. I’m lifting way more than I thought I could when I was maxed out at my old gym. I would 100% recommend D1 to anyone! Amazing gym and amazing people there!

I would like to thank D1, Carrie, Kayla and all the coaches for helping my 3 children believe in themselves, they are very motivated to take the classes, they always come home talking about what they have achieved, they recently completed their 100th class and they couldn't be happier, my husband and I are happy and grateful to D1, they are very professional, friendly with families, the hours are perfect and the prices are affordable. I signed up my 9 year old son at D1 after I had signed him up for his first season of tackle football. I wanted to boost his self confidence before the football season started. In the short 3 weeks that my son has been there so far, WOW, it's just amazing! He absolutely loves it! He looks forward to each and every class! The skills he's learned are amazing and the progress he's made is unbelievable! The confidence my son has gained in the last 3 weeks makes it all worth it!
