Great gym! I love the easy parking. I think the price is worth all the amenities and modern equipment. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the availability. I wished they stayed open till about 10 during the week and about 7 or 8 on the weekends. It would be nice for the night owls but other than that, I have no complaints. I would do 4.5 stars 🙂

I've paid more for gyms that had way way less.
For a standard gym price you also get a pool, basketball court, classes, and their lifting floor has most machines you'll need, and you can find some other ones on other floors.
Front office is usually always staffed with at least 2 people as well and never had issues with them.
Only con is that it closes at 9 and 6 on weekends. Oh, and the main parking garage kind of sucks, but at least it's close.

If I could I would give the whole company a 0. Everyone should know why. MEN IN WOMEN'S LOCKER ROOMS IS DISGUSTING AND DISTURBING. CONDONING THIS TYPE OF SOCIAL BEHAVIOR NEEDS TO END. Sick people need to get help, not be given support and a free pass for their abhorrent delusions.

I joined East Bank Athletic Social expecting a supportive and motivating environment, especially given the premium membership cost. Unfortunately, my experience has been overshadowed by an excessive level of staff regulation and a surprisingly passive-aggressive tone from certain employees.
I take my training seriously, and I expect a gym to respect members who are focused on improving themselves. Instead, I’ve repeatedly encountered 1–3 staff members who seem more interested in micromanaging my workouts than fostering a positive atmosphere. Simple, routine exercises turn into uncomfortable interactions where I feel scrutinized rather than supported.
I understand the importance of safety and gym policies, but rules here are enforced in a way that feels inconsistent and unwelcoming. A gym should motivate its members—not make them feel like they’re constantly being monitored or corrected without cause.
I hope management will address this culture and better train staff to communicate with professionalism and respect. Until then, it’s hard to recommend East Bank Athletic Social to serious individuals seeking a productive and encouraging place to train.

Well, good equipment, good gym, filled with wannabe bro's who stand around equipment and don't work out. The pool, whirlpool is nice and pretty clean. But I've never been micromanaged by workers (making $12.00 an hour), I make six figures fyi. So I cancelled my membership, on to the WAC.

I’ve been going to East Bank Athletic Club for almost a year and a half now, and it’s been an amazing experience! The staff is always friendly and welcoming — the front desk team greets you with positive energy every time you walk in. Jeff does an incredible job keeping the gym updated and adapting to members’ needs.
There are so many great amenities — a pool, hot tub, women’s room for exercise, free group classes like yoga and Pilates, plus plenty of cardio and weightlifting options. It’s truly a gym that has something for everyone.
If you’re thinking about joining, definitely take a tour today! And if this review was helpful, don’t forget to mention my name — they have a great referral program, and I’ll get a free month!

I was told over the phone ie talked to Victor, that it was ok that I didn't have a Wisconsin Driver License. When I arrived I was told by the white guy at the front that I was given the wrong information and that I had to have proof of residency in Wisconsin. No Sorry, no accommodation, nothing. I drove far and despite informing him of this, he didn't care. Events sometimes are a blessing in disguise. I am so blessed that I didn't join. Staff was cruel, odd in behavior, and racist! Thank GOD I dodged this bullet!

East Bank Athletic has an undeniable aura that makes the entire experience stand out from other gyms. The energy of the space is both motivating and empowering, with a sense of intensity that is tuff in the best way possible. From the moment you step inside, the environment feels designed to push you toward your goals while still being approachable and welcoming. The staff and members together create a culture where dedication and confidence are not only respected but celebrated.
What I appreciate most is how comfortable I feel expressing myself in this environment. Whether I am wearing a cutoff, a beater, or just showing up ready to put in work, I feel completely at ease and even encouraged to take pride in how I look and what I am capable of. It is a rare balance: a gym with a professional standard of excellence but also an atmosphere that allows you to feel confident, strong, and unapologetically yourself.

The handicap showers lack water pressure and not sure how kept up with they are especially when you can feel the drips from the ceiling😬 from the steam.
Wish there were more dance cardio with good music not just hip hop or Zumba Spanish but newer hits and classics and rock. Especially in the mornings. And start of the week and weekends.
They close so early when are gyms going to be 24/7 again different people work different times of the day.
Some people in the locker rooms are very inconsiderate of their personal hygiene and stink up the whole locker room making it hard to even be in for more than a minute. And there’s no signs or anything. But at the time I got there to the time I left two different times two different African American looking people I wanted to throw up from the pungent stench and they looked like they had no intentions of showering and another I seen come into the pool area and I could tell he had not showered before entering the area and there’s no signs or anyone monitoring the areas. They should at least put signs up and people should complain if they see someone really dry entering the pool area. Who knows what could be on there skin and bacteria and then there getting in the water just disgusting. I know it’s not easy to raise issues and concerns but at least if there’s warnings and regards and habits of letting people know when they check in then they can’t say they weren’t told and appropriate actions can be taken to keep these places of health and restoration at optimal performance.
And the pool was extremely cold the air conditioner shouldn’t be on in that area but heater I can see being helpful in colder months.
They lack to out there shake menu on there website for anyone to care enough to or to keep these website up to speed. Even the instagram link is out of service.
Also can’t see the rentals online it would help if whatever is available in the gym is shown online so people can plan accordingly.
So far the staff I seen seems very cool and looks healthy and very encouraging spirit, but not too nice and I like that.
Also they should replace the tanning beds with massaging machines and Red light machines. Both are way more beneficial for the body and if cheaper gyms can afford multiple and multiple locations what’s going on with this club ?

The gym has great amenities for the price and the staff are very nice, but the parking leaves A LOT to be desired.
Be warned that the parking structure they validate parking for charges $90 each time you forget to scan the validation QR code that is very difficult to scan and is only available in the 1st floor lobby of a 5 story gym. So if you realize mid-workout that you forgot to validate your parking you might have to go down and back up 4 flights of stairs to avoid a $90 charge.

Truly the best gym I have ever been apart of, the staff managed the transition from Golds to East Bank Athletic & Social flawlessly. They were communicative to members and worked with members to understand the changes. The staff have created a home base and family-like atmosphere for the members. Both inside and outside of the gym the community they have crafted is truly remarkable. Very proud that I get to brag about my gym to my friends and family!!

East Bank Athletic & Social. The gym seems very nice. Their customer service is terrible from what I saw and experienced from my 1st visit and needs much improvement. Saw one of the managers arguing with a customer. And spoke harshly to the employees in front of customers. Very unpleasant demeanor.
They have sucky hours compared to other gyms. They just seem rude. The announcement over the loud speakers that everyone need to be out of the gym at 9pm on the dot was very cringy.
I love the esthetic of the gym & all of the options. Especially the hot tub, pool and sauna. I was thinking about switching from Planet Firness to them, but I may consider the WAC instead. They seem nicer and have customer service training. Which is what my review is based on. Not the gym itself.

Who cares if they changed from Golds gym. They still offer amazing amenities at a great price in the heart of downtown Milwaukee.

East Bank Social has been my gym for the last couple of years (back when it was Gold’s) and I can confidently say that since it’s been under new ownership, the quality of the gym has improved immensely. It has a great selection of equipment, with a strength floor, a cardio deck, a pool, locker rooms with saunas, and spaces for group classes.
With the new social aspect integrated into the gym, I feel much more connected with fellow members of the gym. They also have a mobile app that makes scanning in easier and gives you the ability to sign up for group classes.
Jeff and staff are always super accessible and open to feedback. I’ll always recommend this place to anyone looking for a new gym!

East Bank Athletic Social Club is easily one of the best gyms in downtown Milwaukee. The free parking for members is a huge plus, especially in this area. The gym itself has a pool, hot tub, saunas, a half basketball court, and a women’s-only workout section, which is a nice touch.
The equipment selection is top-notch. There’s a full floor dedicated to performance and functional training with turf, plenty of cardio machines, and a great selection of free weights, squat racks, and new machines focused on hypertrophy training. Whether you’re into strength training, functional workouts, or just getting in some cardio, they’ve got you covered.
Jeff, the manager, does a great job listening to members and continuously improving the gym. The atmosphere is solid, and Jeff has built a good culture here. Plus, the membership price is very reasonable compared to other gyms in the area.
If you’re looking for a well-equipped gym with a good vibe and fair pricing, this is the place to be.

I really only come here for the pool, so the scope of my review is limited.
The pool itself generally seems clean and I have no real issues with it. However, I don’t know the cleaning schedule for the pool room at large but it doesn’t seem to be all too frequent. The deck is often pretty grimey and I’ve seen what looks to be the remnants of someone blowing their nose on the pool deck sitting there for days on end. Also, there are signs posted letting members know that the hot tub will be closed for cleaning every Thursday from 6:30-1:30. I have been a couple of times during those posted times and the hot tub had always been open. It always has a bit of visible debris at the bottom and the whole thing feels sandy and dirty.
The employees are always kind and welcoming, and the rest of the gym seems nice enough. Overall the membership is a decent value but I wish the swimming area was more thoroughly or frequently cleaned.
The locker rooms also have significant room for improvement (the men’s room, anyway). It smells mildewy immediately upon entry, some of the lockers have questionable stains inside, and the shower area is pretty gross. Grime coating the walls, visible mold on the ceiling, shower curtains that should have been replaced months ago. Thankfully for pool users there is a private bathroom with a shower right off the pool area. This room is better, but could still use a deep cleaning and the inclusion of a bench so you don’t have to put belongings on the floor of a shared restroom would be highly welcomed.
Editing review to add pictures and say that while Jeff’s comment was appreciated, it didn’t seem to amount to any change. All the concerns I listed initially are still present and cleanliness remains an issue.

Took advantage of the free trial, and it's a decent gym overall. If this was the only gym in the area, I'd have no problem going here regularly. Clean, great selection of equipment, staff is friendly. Price point is very competitive, although if you sign up for the "premium" services it's pretty well in line with other gyms in the area. Still nice they offer a very low price for the basic membership. You have to bring your own lock for the locker room, which would have been nice to know ahead of time. Ended up lugging my bag around with me which was a bit of a pain. My biggest complaint is it's just too many floors. Two and even three floor gyms work, but five floors is just too spread out. You'll end up wasting time going up, down, up, and down again if you plan to utilize a variety of different equipment. It's difficult to even remember what's on each floor. Bit of a weird vibe as well, I noticed several people with big tripods filming their workouts. And some folks had no problem tying up a piece of equipment for 30 minutes at a time, most of which was spent chatting and socializing between sets. Again, not bad overall and was able to get a solid workout in. Not leaving my current gym anytime soon, but definitely promising and I'm sure they'll continue to make improvements under the new brand.

The improvements in equipment and especially staff make this gym a keeper! It is hard to find a complaint. However… some nit picks are gym etiquette like putting plates away, people sitting on a machine while others wait, and setting up a personal “circuit”. These things should be self governing and not require staff policing.
On my personal wish list is a full deadlift bar jack and chalk or a policy (I know it’s a mess but it’s part of training).

Don't understand why there's weights being used as door stops on every floor when there's a shortage of weights in the weight room... Otherwise decent price for free weights, but not too many machines and a shortage of weights on the 5th floor
Update: now have been a member here for about a month or two. Just a bummer that the weight room isn’t really kept clean, has outdated equipment, outdated TVs, etc.. pretty much only here because of the location, price and free weights
Additional update: have been a member for almost 2 years. New manager Jeff is doing an awesome job. Have seen some awesome improvements here, and he has really flipped with place upside down. Some spots could be a little cleaner, but overall this place has gotten so much better and is an easy recommendation for a serious weight lifter.

I am writing this because I really liked Golds until I kept getting parking tickets on a Saturday EVEN after I have done the QR scan for the parking(I have the receipts via email). They have tagged on $150 in fees. Who about to pay that? If you visit this gym PLEASE do your parking as SOON AS YOU PULL INTO THE PARKING BUILDING. They changed they system without telling anyone. One time they system was down so I couldn't do the QR code and got a ticket. The other times I got a ticket 1-20mins AFTER I scanned the QR code. If your system has changed letting the customers know would be the best. I guess all big companies gotta find a way to make money off the small guy/gal. This had left a bad impression on me and reconsidering attending anymore classes at Golds.

I'm a little upset because I had my clothes, my shoes, some gloves and a spinal corrector in my locker, with a padlock and a security code, and I hadn't been to the gym for a month and when I came back, I realized that they broke the padlock and gave away the things that cost me to a beneficiary entity, so my money and what I invested, even though I paid for the gold gym, doesn't count? I went down to reception and they told me that, meaning that you can't leave anything in the lockers and even the padlock didn't matter.

Gold's is a great gym, especially for swimmers. The newly renovated pool beats anything downtown. Front desk folks are friendly and accommodating. Only drawback, the piped in hip hop drones into one monotone track. Ouch.

Love this gym— great equipment, constantly adding more very relevant/new plate loaded machines (belt squat, pendulum squat, hip thrust, etc). Great price compared to nearby gyms. Very kind staff, knowledgeable trainers, GM very friendly and knows most members on first name basis. He takes care of any matters that need to be handled very professionally. Only suggestion is more mirrors especially on second floor.

We’ve been at this gym for a few weeks and so far I have no complaints. I triathalon train and lift.
The pool is nearly immaculate in terms of cleanliness, and I haven’t seen too many people use it. The locker room is pristine. While the website says the pool is 25 yards, it is only 20 yards.
I am a fan of the views of the river, the amount of amenities and different spaces, and the overall cleanliness.

Nice gym I would not hold it to the golds gym standard per say. In my opinion it's basically a dolled up version of an l.a. fitness. Nice views from the weight room floor not enough mirrors to check form. No old school body building equipment. Way to many life fitness and hoist machines. They do sell protein shakes and they have terrible pre workout rtd options . Not a bad price for a day pass ($15) considering it is in the city of Milwaukee. Gym is well maintained and clean. I give this gym two stars. I was hoping for a real golds gym true to body building Not whatever this establishment morphed Into. Overall not a bad gym but this is no golds gym. They just use the name.

I was in Milwaukee only for the semester and couldn’t find a better gym! People and staff are so nice and they even gave me a student membership so it’s perfect for a semester abroad, they didn’t have any problem with a foreign credit card and cancelling the membership was also really easy.
The place is really good, well equipped (all five floors), the pool is always clean and there’s an exclusive place for women that has (almost) everything needed. They also validate parking if needed :)

Its a very good and clean gym with athletic environment which help to motivate people. They have a very good equipments, but it’s crowded. I think if we had more tables, and machines, it would be much nicer.

I've been going to golds before they opened the permanent space,I was one of the first 300 to sign up.I became good friends w some of the personal trainers and staff.Alot changed after covid like everything else.Golds needed rejuvenation and to be updated and I'm happy that's what's happening. I love my morning co-lifters(gym family)and excited to see the future of this gym.

Edit: Since new management has taken over, the last year has seen drastic improvements to the facilities in cleanliness, service, and equipment. Gold's Gym has a vast array of weight lifting equipment and machines, half basketball court, lots of cardio equipment, a small patch of turf, and more. It's defenitely a high quality gym these days.
The place has a bed bug infestation and management refuses to do anything about it. I've found bed bugs 3 different times over the course of 3 weeks (all on the 3rd floor).
EDIT: Found another bug (not sure what kind in video)

This review is for the personal trainer Mary Bender. I recommend her services as a trainer to anyone interested in personal training. I have been lifting since high school and I'm 28 now, so I wasn't sure if a trainer could offer me much, but I decided to give it a try and I was pleased to say the least. She is very knowledgeable and communicates that knowledge clearly and understandably, she's taught me a ton of useful information. She knows how to design a great program for whatever your goals are and if you have an issue or limitation she will find a solution. Mary is also very personable and encouraging/motivating throughout the workout, which really helps you get the most out of your session. I didn't think 1 hour would be enough time as I'm used to being there for 2 or more, but I was dead wrong, and very tired after.
In talking to her it became apparent that she is extremely passionate about her job and helping people reach their fitness goals. So much so that she is constantly trying to learn new things herself that she can then apply to clients; she's currently learning Olympic lifting for example.
For myself I wanted to emphasize power and losing weight, she devised some workout elements that I had never considered doing before and absolutely loved as I can see how they directly relate to those goals. Also, my knee and low back hurt whenever I would squat. She immediately saw the cause (tight hips causing my low back to round and I wasn't bracing my core properly) and showed me some mobility exercises to help with this, she also recorded me squatting both before and after her assistance so I could see what I was doing wrong and how my form improved with just a few initial adjustments. I also can not do a proper front squat hold, so after our first session she did some thinking/research on her own time and was able to determine the cause of my limitations there as well (tight rear delts and lats) and she gave me mobility exercises and stretches to help with that also. Continuing the mobility exercises and stretches while correcting my form has alleviated the knee and low back pain and I'm getting closer and closer to being able to front squat properly the more mobility work and stretches I do.
Overall, Mary goes above and beyond to help people reach their fitness goals and I'd highly recommend her services to anyone and everyone.
