I saw another review about the pool having poop. I also saw the YMCA's response. THEY DO NOT CLOSE THE POOL when the special needs group poops in the pool!! I was in the pool one time it happened with my children and the lifeguards didn't even tell us to get out!!!!! We got out ourselves and left with our kids when we saw the lifeguards just spraying the floor and the yellow poop water went into the children's pool. They do NOT follow health protocols the pool NEVER gets closed! If you swam at the YMCA on October 20, 2025 after 1 pm you swam in poop! The family locker room had yellow poop water as well. They did not close the pool. Once we saw the locker room and poopy foot steps leading to the pool we left. And the pool stayed OPEN!!!!!!

Excellent place. It has a lot to offer. However, it is incredibly warm where the machines are for working out. It's significantly warmer than the YMCA in Milton. I leave with my clothes so wet from sweat it's as if I jumped in the pool with my clothes on. I don't get anywhere near this sweaty at the YMCA in Milton and I do the same routine at both places.

I've known this place for the past 11+ years and I've never been disappointed with it. My only inconvenience with the place is the fact that the hot tub there gets broken fairly often, which is why I would recommend calling them to see if it's working or not first before just going over there if you're just looking for somewhere to go to that has a hot tub. I also tried the Hydro Massage there and it was great. It only costs $5 to use it if you have the most basic membership. It's also a great place to run track laps or simply get a good workout out of the way.

I’d love to leave ZERO stars.. horrible experience at the Summer camp. Counselors were absolutely rude.. made it very clear to me they didn’t want my son there.. continued to message me everyday stating my how bad he acted. Telling me to pick him up every day as soon as possible. They explained behavior to me that I’ve never ever witnessed myself.. very uncomfortable experience. I felt attacked and very uncomfortable the whole experience. The counselors are really young and don’t know how to redirect or talk to the kids either.

I called requesting to cancel my membership and John was accusatory and rude because he did not believe I was on a cell phone due to my area code, said it was the first time he’s ever seen it, he would

Like the water exercises.. But.. took a few classes that were suppose to be beginning levels...I felt like I was or through a rushed, non informative/educational approach to the exercises.. I called the YMCA On a Friday morning at 6:30 AM to ask about information for senior walking in the pool area I am not a member nor have I ever been a member but I did not know where to start Or what the schedule was So I called in to ask some questions the lady who answered the phone Was No help whatsoever and after a couple of minutes became rude and asked if I had any more questions At that point which was only 4 minutes into our conversation I told her no .you have been very helpful and I hung up the phone I will Not be calling there again. I’ve been going to this gym for almost 2 years now and have been happy. The workout classes/instructors are great, the staff is all friendly and helpful, it’s one of the most affordable places to workout & there is a wide variety of machines and workout equipment. Only negative is that the building & Studio A could use some updating (and more/new weights, mats, etc) but overall, great place!

Nicest YMCA I’ve visited; I’m visiting Janesville from Detroit. Johanna accepted my AWAY membership which isn’t always the case. She gave me a complete facility tour, YMCA history and community programs offered. New equipment in brightly lit areas for workouts and subdued areas for reading and reflection. Very very nice. I wish I lived here.

I have been a member of the y for more than 2 decades. The last few years have gone down hill with staff and management. Recent changes, forcing members to sign up for under staffed activities have created a difficult environment to stay consistent. I am so grateful I tried the free 14 day trial membership at The Janesville Athletic Club.
It's less than the monthly ymca cost, you don't have to sign up for anything, classes are often and available and the facility is up to date and clean!
I encourage anyone on the fence to give the athletic club a try, we would love to have you and your family!

Regularly attend the virtual yoga that the YMCA has provided since the pandemic and tonight enjoyed the yoga class normally held in the town square that was moved indoors due to poor air quality. Both classes are well attended and very well instructed. 👍 Thanks YMCA ☺️

I have been going to the Janesville YMCA for about 4 months now and they never said anything about me being 15 but today they decided to tell me I couldn’t go into the weight room without a fitness orientation yet the lady that does them wasn’t there that day. Drove 30 minutes just for my friends to be able to go in but I wasn’t allowed to go in so we were forced to leave after wasting gas.

We loved swim lessons here pre-covid. Our daughter was about 9 months when we started. She is now 2. We stopped going in about March 2020, when covid got bad. Based on what we heard about how safe lessons would be, we tried again tonight. There was zero promotion of space, mask wearing, anything like that. To be specific, we were actually told to “come closer” over and over again and weren’t given our respected space. I was so disappointed. We have been very careful with covid, but this experience tells me that the y doesn’t care about safety or health. That completely goes against their values. My husband and I left very disappointed and sad that our daughter won’t be continuing. Swimming was a favorite thing of hers, so I guess we will continue sitting at home due to other peoples’ lack of consideration for others. I contacted the CEO with details. Celeste was amazing as the aquatics director and would have been a lot less pushy and invading of space than the new woman I met today. If you have any concerns about covid, I wouldn’t consider coming here to allow your child to go to be a part of classes. Do better.

Very disappointed. Went to the YMCA tonight around 7 p.m. to sign up my husband and myself along with our grandchildren for a family membership, and stood there for 10 minutes while the two ladies working completely ignored me. historic / charming building

Cons: This YMCA was once nice, fairly clean, and fairly updated. I played youth sports here from the mid 2000s to the early 2010s. It has gone downhill. The CEO stopped making updates and started pocketing the money. Also, the cleaning standards have become poor. The swim locker rooms in particular needed attention when I was there earlier this year. This facility was the cool place to go for kids. Now it’s just in disrepair.

This YMCA is nice but the people who run it are terrible! The Y basketball league is a terrible organization. The Refrees they hire are terrible they make the game of basketball not fun! The scoreboard people seem to be just a bunch of college students who don’t know math and can’t keep track of teams, scores, and fouls. Would I recommend this league? The water walking was so helpful for my back issues, however my
delight turned to disgust when we saw an old woman climb out of the pool with her diaper hanging down to her knees and full of poo. It was a huge disappointment as the girl leading the water walking was so fun and the exercise was just what we needed.

We reported this all to the Y but they said they put all kinds of chemicals and shock the water. But no one is keeping track of or monitoring the people with the diapers to see if the right kind of diapers are being used - if there is a right kind? ? ?
I'll never go their water again. It's scary!

Kids running amok everywhere in the evening that it's like a daycare out of control. The long time members agree the the men's locker room is far more superior than the women's at both locations because the CEO is sexist. The locker rooms are never clean and something is always broken down, like the security locks. Seriously, propping the women's locker room door open due to the locks not working is a disaster waiting to happen! Women bringing their kids into the womens locker room when there is a big red sign saying 18+ only just shows that people here don't have any comprehension skills whatsoever.

The idea is nice however it didnt work out quite that well. They took an old school or something like that and turned it into a YMCA. The inside is large and the pool is nice however the over all look and feel is anything but nice. It is very dark and dingy in there and I would swear everything is dirty but its not it just seems that way. With the cost of a YMCA membership you can get a membership to a much nicer gym.

Just enrolled my son into the new weekend swimming lessons and he loves it!! He has a great instructor and practically learned how to swim his very first time. I wish i knew her name (she wears the all pink 1 piece) but she is absolutely amazing with kids and made it very easy for my son to catch on. The reason for the 3 stars is because i have had him signed up here for 2 other sports in the past, which kind of seemed like a joke due to the fact the rooms were too tiny and overcrowded to the point the kids couldn't move around and follow instructions properly. Other than that i do recommend for beginner swimming lessons.

I'm a single parent of 3 an as gifts my family has randomly got us signed up at the ymca downtown Janesville...my sons enjoyed basketball last year but this year when my mom went to sign us up as a Christmas present they charged her an extra 90 dollars...they claimed it was from not canceling the year before...but my Aunt from GreenBay is the one who had set it all up last year...yo make a long story short the lady I spoke with Emily said no refunds are allowed an that she could do nothing...we will be canceling this month and not attending...making a huge loss for my mother an my children
