Master Instructor John makes every class educational and fun. In the 6 years I've trained there, I always left feeling better than when I walked in. He's not just a great Instructor, he's a great friend. He always has great advice on so many different topics. Come check him out. You will not regret it.

I was part of a group of 9 ladies that attended the Women's Self Defense program in 2015. The instructor was very professional. John taught us all the tricks and tips so we could feel safe. Like don't have both earbuds in when we go running, run or walk with a buddy if we can, etc. John at Red Dragon is also great with the kiddos. I highly, highly recommend this school for anyone and everyone.

My 7 year old son started karate at the Richland Center School this summer after expressing an interest for several months. I had heard a lot of great things about how karate helped students with impulsivity, focus and attention problems learn the skills needed to improve in these areas so decided to give it a try. It was the best decision we made! The Master Instructor, John Jager, has been patient, attentive and firm with my son as he learns the skills needed to succeed both at karate and in other areas of his life. My son started the second grade this fall and shocked his teachers with how much he has matured over the summer. I strongly credit his karate education at RDMAA for this development.

The families, students, and adult assistants/ teachers have all been welcoming and kind to us when we joined and this sense of community has continued as other students have joined behind us. We have enthusiastically supported this school and the instructor to our friends, family and acquaintances. It is exciting to see how the Richland Center academy is growing and settling into our community as a positive and healthy option for students and their families!

In my profession as a social worker I take child safety very seriously. It is my general policy as a parent and a professional to background check a child's instructors, coaches and teachers before facilitating lessons. Mr. Jager and his schools are free of any misconduct and are highly rated by students and families in good standing with the school. I highly value that Mr. Jager expects his students (little to adult) to reflect the values of his teachings both in class and outside in the community and where they are unable to reflect the good values of his school he is prepared to address this for the reputation of his school and other students/ families.

I am 45 years old (nearly 46), and I started with Red Dragon in Richland City a little more than two years ago. When I began, I was in normal shape -- which means, I was a little overweight, and under-exercised. I had limited flexibility and during the first few weeks, I struggled to kick higher than my knee, or to avoid being winded after the initial warm-ups. Fortunately, that all changed very quickly. I lost about 25 pounds over the first three months, and my flexibility and stamina increased gradually with every session. I am now a brown belt, and I can easily kick over my head. My balance is more stable than it every has been, I feel active all the time and I am in better shape than I was in my early 20s. I lost at least 45 pounds over all, and I feel stronger and capable of doing almost anything.

I do not take karate for the fighting -- I see karate as a sort of poetry of motion. Red Dragon caters to all interests, and all age groups. It is a welcoming place, very supportive, and full of knowledge. The instructor, Master John Jager is a Fifth Degree Black belt, which means he has decades of training and has a depth of understanding that goes far beyond the basic movements. I plan on maintaining my training for many years to come, and Red Dragon has the resources to take me up to the Fourth Degree Black Belt (which is easily a decade worth of material)... and by the time I get there, Master John will likely be a sixth or seventh degree :) .

I strongly recommend Red Dragon Martial Arts Academy. I love the mixed martial arts style -- it is primarily defensive rather than aggressive, and it is energy efficient rather than acrobatic. I can continue with this style long into my 70s (which is not possible in many other martial arts forms). It is never too late to reclaim your energy and want to learn something new. Stop by Red Dragon Martial Arts Academy in either Sauk City or Richland Center and sign up for a free week.

This is a great place for families. My young son started Red Dragon in the fall 2014 for some excercise and socializing. He loves going to class and learning with his new friends. It has given him confidence and taught him to protect himself and others if necessary. I joined shortly after he did, I used to be in Tae Kwon Do but, didn't have any fun. Not only have I continued my martial arts training, with fun I might add, but I have met some nice people and made good friends here. We both love going to class and training with Master John and the assistant instructors.
If you have kids, Master John is INCREDIBLY patient with the kids and teaches with gentleness and kindness. I would highly recommend your kids go here for pratical martial arts that could save their life one day.
I have never seen any sleazy or inappropriate behavior from the teachers in the time I've been there. Common sense, if You don't trust them, why would you send your kids? Doesn't make sense to me.

I am a male who attended this school for close to two years. I left due to many reasons - mainly how I was treated and how I saw others treated. I watched over and over as the instructor of the school hit on and was inappropriate with the female students. I have always felt bad that I never said anything as I watched the discomfort on their faces. I came across these other reviews and decided to review the place myself even though it's been years. Obviously, the behavior has not stopped and that saddens me. Be very careful going to this school, eventually you will be treated poorly and lies said about you behind your back. It happens to everyone that has ever gone there, this is way there is a very low student population and no upper ranking belts. No one can stand putting up with the behavior for a long period of time.

I attended this school for almost a year and a half and was treated horribly. Not at first, but the longer I stayed, the worse the treatment became. I witnessed many other people being treated poorly as well. I highly recommend that women stay away from this place, unless you like sleazy men.
