The owner, Marietta, ‘turns the other check’ and chooses to love even when people are unlovable. Beyond that, most yoga teachers at Yama have at least a decade of experience; there is a strong attention to form (even in the flow classes) and teachers are generous with their expertise/time. So, teaching fundamentally is responsible, responsive and generous. The ‘inner circle’ around Marietta maturely walks in the Yamas and Niyamas; thus, this is a growth-orientated, loving and ethical community. Parking in Third Ward is free starting at 6 pm and for two hours on the weekends. Most of the time parking is easy enough, yet perhaps 2x in 2 years I’ve circled for more than 5 min. Would highly recommend!

Jamie’s form and flow class on Tuesday nights has changed my life. She is so inviting, informative, and kind. I love that she lets everyone move at their own pace, yet creates a challenging class environment that I really have begun to look forward to weekly.

We had a really nice experience in Belle’s restorative class. The space is so comforting and inviting.
When you walk into the door from the street you need to walk down a hallway and up some flights of stairs to reach the studio (follow the signs). It seems like there must be an elevator available if needed, but I didn’t see it. The metalwork sculptures in the building are very cool to look at as well. Overall great experience!

I did my 200 hour teacher training here and I'm so glad I did! Marietta and Laura were awesome instructors. We really got a great education, learning pose breakdowns, sequencing, and then everything from Kirtan to essential oils and Ayurveda. We got a lot of practice teaching before graduating as well. I really felt ready to teach even before graduating. It was really a neat experience. As part of teacher training, we also got unlimited memberships to the studio, allowing us to learn from the myriad of amazing instructors on staff. There was a mentoring part of the teacher training and I chose Jason from Yama as my mentor. He is incredibly meticulous in his attention to detail in alignment.
I now teach here as well, and run my own massage practice out of the treatment room in Yama. Yama has given so much to me and I am incredibly grateful.
I love this studio ❤️
Highly, highly recommend this studio to any student of Yoga, and I definitely recommend the teacher training to anyone who is thinking of becoming a Yoga Teacher!

Unclear in their Groupon deal, wasted my time driving all the way to the studio, then spent over 15mn looking for parking close by.
End up parking 3 blocks away and running to the class but when arriving they told me that my groupon is not applicable for that particular class!
They didn't even offer an arrangement or make exception considering that nothing is explained in their side about these Groupon differences
Disappointing customer service !

Yama Yoga has been the studio I have been practicing at for five years. This studio is a peaceful, nourishing sanctuary amongst the hustle bustle of the city. The teachers are all passionate and the students all dedicated in a way that makes you feel like you're returning home every time you show up for your practice. There are various styles so there is something for everyone! Here is a resource to discover the whole of yoga, not just the stretches or physical poses.

I've taken a fair number of classes here and every time I walk out feeling good, no matter how the day or week went. The rooms have high wooden ceilings and are beautiful and the people so thoughtful, knowledgeable and well meaning that you can get a bit spoiled. Was there this morning, new teacher and why should I be surprised, she was really good (see previous adjectives).

My husband has been going to Yama for 6 years and I for 1 1/2 years. The instructors are knowledgeable and personable. Classes are tailored to meet individual needs and levels. As a newbie, I appreciated the individual attention - ensuring I was dong poses correctly and in a benefial manner. I love the opening and closing reminders, quotes, and readings. I often refer back to them/ponder them between sessions. They are always relevant and timely.

I have to write this review because I have never felt so violated after going to a yoga class for the first time. I understand that sometimes a yoga instructor will touch you to help with alignment, but I have never had an instructor touch my ass so repeatedly, or ever, during a class. Along with that she was pushing students beyond the point that seemed to be comfortable to them. To top it off, at the end she decided to share her political beliefs in a very obtrusive way. I will never return.

Marietta (studio owner) is an amazing individual who has created a beautiful and comfortable space for all to practice yoga. Five stars does not do justice as a testimony on how wonderful Yama Yoga really is.

Yama is a wonderful asset to our community, wonderful teachers and workshops. I loved the teachers training with Marietta and Tammy, both have so much to offer both about the physical side of yoga and the deeper philosophies and then they brought in great guest teachers too. Thanks Yama Yoga!
