I have tried to cancel my membership at South Beach Fitness since July 2025. But I’m always charged the first of every month. I have called many time and I’m always told that the manager will be notified. When I got another charge November 1st, I drove to the gym to settle the issue and was told there was no manager on duty, but they could take a message. Will this saga ever end?

I quite like this place, but they really need to upgrade their elliptical machines. There's only two in reasonable working order.

Friendly And knowledgeable staff, wide range of equipment. While it isn't as fancy as some gyms, you can't beat the price/value, friendly members, great range of classes and equipment. No pool, track, or cafe, but there is child care and good workout without a lot of hassle. Has spinning, Pilates and a myriad of classes.

Update: over the years this facility has done major upgrades, and added new services. I continue to be a member there.

One of the dirtiest, most run-down gyms I’ve ever been to. The ceiling is falling apart, the equipment is old, outdated, and always dirty. Some machines are constantly out of order and never get repaired or serviced. Worst of all, the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. It’s clear the gym isn’t well maintained. When you raise concerns, the owner takes it personally and responds with an attitude—he clearly doesn’t care about the facility.

There are plenty of gyms in the area that are cleaner, more affordable, and better managed. The only upside? It’s usually empty at any time of day, which I assume is because most people have already taken their business elsewhere

My husband and I were recent member of this establishment, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Here are the issues I encountered:

1. **Unhelpful Staff**: The staff seemed uninformed and unable to assist with basic inquiries. Their lack of knowledge was evident across the board.

2. **Constant Machine Issues**: The machines were consistently out of order or malfunctioning. It's frustrating not knowing when they'll be fixed.

3. **Dirty Bathrooms**: The restroom conditions were subpar. Cleanliness should be a priority, especially in a public facility.

4. **Membership and Refund Problems**: When I needed help canceling my membership or obtaining a refund, the staff proved ineffective. They couldn't offer any solutions. I needed to freeze my membership and when I received the auto payment it was for the full amount. I was told the freeze didn’t go through, then I went to cancel it. Filled out the same form. I was given an email for my refund and cancellation. They never told me the freeze and cancellation would take 30 days to complete. I emailed Lexi three times and only received one email back none of which helped my situation. Fast forward to this morning and my husband tried going (only my membership should’ve been canceled) they canceled his membership without even letting him know. Then the person proceeds to tell my husband that he has a balance. He can’t have a balance if it has been auto-payed.

5. **Elusive Owner/Manager**: The owner or manager was rarely present and difficult to reach. It's essential for management to be accessible and responsive.

6. **Incompetent Staff Communication**: Providing an email for a remote employee, Lexi but not for the actual owner, Lisa is baffling. The staff's communication skills need improvement.

Overall, my experience was disappointing, and I wouldn't recommend this place to others. I hope they take steps to address these issues and improve their service.

I have been going to Beach Bodies for over 5 years, but they recently sold and it's very dirty and the machines are all torn and the owner charges your cards and forges your signature on his contract. I went here to see if I would like it and I found it very clean and the equipment is in great shape. There was also blocks and yoga tools in the class room. I really am looking forward to checking this place out.

Fraud!!!! DO NOT GIVE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT INFO!! I was a member of this gym for a year and a half, when i decided to go elsewhere. I didn’t go in and cancel my membership (my wrong), but incidentally, had to get a new debit card with a new number due to an unrelated issue. I figured since i had a new card, my membership would be automatically cancelled. Once i checked my account, i realized they somehow had obtained access to my new card number and were charging my new card! This was not authorized. I then went in to discuss this with the girl at the front counter. I figured it wasn’t worth the hassle to deal with, so i just filled out the cancellation paper. My juvenile son was also on my account. They never cancelled his, and from July until November have charged me $13.69 for him. In addition, they have continued to charge additional fees of anywhere from $43 to $65. Since May, they have charged my card $369. I saw where someone had to file a fraud claim at their bank to keep them out of their account. Thanks for the advice. I’m going do that as well as file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. And, I’ll be talking to my bank about how they managed gain access to my new card without authorization. If I can file charges, i definitely plan to.

This place is an outstanding gym! And I know what I’m talking about… I’ve been lifting in some of the worlds best gyms for almost 40 years… From Golds gyms to power pits; the best combo is great equipment (Hammer Strength to good cable equip & machines) to 120# DB), decent size, good owners and management… I prefer single outlets versus franchise gyms… I know these folks personally and they do it all right! Worth the trip - affordable too.

South Beach Fitness was my go to gym the week I was vacationing in the Melbourne Beach area. Although I was just a short term 'guest', the staff was very friendly and helped set me up for a few gym sessions.

The facility itself has everything you need equipment-wise, including an IR sauna (bonus for me). What sets this gym apart is the customer service / staff - specifically, Alan at the front desk, was one of the nicest people I've ever met working a gym - even giving me pointers on how to watch an upcoming rocket launch. I came back a second time during my trip because the experience was so pleasant.

As a result, if I moved to this area, this would be my gym. It certainly will be during my next visit. Thank you Alan & South Beach Fitness!

It's a good gym for the most part. Not overly crowded, good variety of machines. Friendly staff. Lots of machines could use a tune up though. My biggest gripe is the lack of enforcement of reracking the weights. More often than not the weights are on bars from the previous user. Especially in the morning. Fix that issue and it's a 4 star gym.

I would definitely refrain from coming to this gym. The staff is absolutely uncaring and rude to their customers. I have never experienced someone who was so unkind and unhelpful who claimed to be the manager. All my friends and I have started to cancel our memberships. I love this gym and have been a member for years. I usually do evening classes and the instructors are great. I am especially impressed at how they have handled everything since quarantine/Pandemic. Unethical and predatory business. Read all the reviews before you join.

I can’t speak to the clubs atmosphere as I was called away before I was able to train there. I can, however, warn you of the culture of the club and it’s predatory cancellation policy.

Be advised that you will NOT under any circumstance be able to cancel your membership without sending a certified letter or visiting the club personally.

If you’re swept away in the dead of night by the Tokyo mafia and are able to make one final phone call before you’re never heard from again, they will not cancel over the phone. If you lose both arms and both legs in a freak frisbee golfing accident, and are unable to walk or write a letter, they will NOT cancel over the phone. Read other reviews. Must rush abroad to care for a critically ill loved one? They’ll still demand a personal visit or a certified letter. They will continue to take your money regardless of your condition.

They will cite policy. Again and again. The will condescendingly attempt to attack your character by using phrases like “the VERY simple contract YOU signed” and accusing you of being “entitled” for “expecting us to change the rules”, and make passive aggressive statements like “I’m sorry you feel that way about terms YOU agreed to”.

To be fair, I’m sure it WAS in the contract, but they certainly don’t warn you of this highly unorthodox and strangely “Faust selling his soul to the devil” like practice when you sign up. Most people reasonably assume cancellation will be a simple process, and at South Beach Fitness, they’re counting on it.

It all had a very 1942 Germany “I was just following orders” sort of vibe to it, Ann Frankly I was shocked. Bad policy is bad policy. But let’s be clear, this uncompromising policy is in place for a more nefarious reason:

Understand that this is a tactic used by some business in communities with a high density of seniors to prey on a demographic that can become sick, immobile, cognitively compromised and even pass away very quickly— but the auto debit will continue ad infinitum because they can’t jump through the unnecessarily stringent cancellation hoops for being too sick or too dead. Classy, South Beach Fitness, real classy.

They also use the practice of slightly varying monthly membership amounts so that your credit card company can’t easily stop the recurring debit. Leaving you with only the option of canceling the payment method (which I reluctantly did). Go home South Beach Fitness... you’re drunk.

Actually, scratch that... not drunk, but EVIL. Imagine intentionally preying on our precious seniors, the most vulnerable population. Anyone who brings their kids to child care there might want to be extra protective of those kiddies social security numbers and internal organs, as I wouldn’t put much past the fine folks at South Beach Fitness. Sheesh.

They probably kick puppies too.

I’ve had to cancel three other memberships for the same reason this week and literally the most difficulty I’ve had (outside of interacting with the South Beach Gestapo) was that I had to wait for a few hours for one of them to message me back to say “ok man no problem, hope all is well”.

That’s what canceling a membership should be like. People have a right to decide where they spend their money. And at risk populations have a right to not be preyed upon, and we have the responsibility to make sure they’re protected.

So if you’re cool with associating yourself with a company like this, well groovy, but understand that you’re signing on for life, and that literally no matter your circumstances, they will not budge on this predatory (and frankly outdated) cancellation policy, and will quickly resort to making snide and condescending comments if you dispute or attempt to discuss in any way.

But more importantly than that, you’ll be supporting a business who’s overall morals and ethics are questionable at best, and viscous at worst, and who are solely motivated by greed and pride, and that’s a thing we should be fighting against, not giving our support to.

Do not go here. If you try to cancel they will make you come in and sign a form and then continue to charge your account. Seems the only way I'm able to get help after calling in multiple times is to make a fraud claim with my bank. No one there is helpful and they can't seem to find my form. Their systems are outdated, and not properly maintained. Every time I've called I get a run around and no one is able to help, hence filing the Fraud Claim. Stay away and just do some sit-ups and push-ups at home.

I cancelled my membership recently in early October & was charged an extra $42.80 fee for my son & I. When I asked the manager, Damien, what the charge was for, he related that it was an annual fee for my membership that was charged in November. I asked the manager why I had to pay this fee & if the fee could be waived. The manager replied that he could not waive the fee & that it was just bad timing on my part. I related to to the manager that conducting business in this manner is not going to give me any incentive to re-join his gym. He told me that I would be charged a fee if I was a member of another gym. I have read reviews from other patrons of the gym & it sounds like this $20 fee is a cancellation fee & not the annual fee that they are calling it. I have worked in the customer service industry for many years & I can tell you that treating your customers poorly & over charging them will not keep you in business for very long. Good luck!

The members at this gym are like a gang of bullies, when you set them straight management looks out for it's interest and if you are just one member then you are the one to go. It's all about money, I got banned for spilling water over some losers head because he kept insulting me, but he had 3 of his friends side with him and I am the one to get my membership canceled.

Response 9/1/2018, I never made any threats, I only replied with profanity when presented with it. In order to stop your members physical threats and their profanity I had to spill it. Police was called but it's not a police issue. I am glad you show your face by replying back to me like this. It's also nice to know how you heard the other sides story but not mine. I guess numbers count, money talks.

Update 9/5/2018: I am getting charged after getting membership canceled, looks like money is tight in this scam joint. Take a look at the picture below for better clarification.

The equipment selection is phenomenal and in this day and age, 24/7 access is a near requirement to be competitive in the market. Those two reasons are why I South Beach Fitness as good a review as I did. Be warned however; if you visit the facility after staffed hours, prepare yourself to take a trip back in time to your first college frat party. Trust me on this. In one section you have girls who can’t be older than 20 in attire that would make Ron Jeremy blush. In the other corner is a circus of about 5 or 6 grown men making noises that would make a blind man think he was in a gorilla exhibit at the zoo. Some light grunting here and there is respectible and understandable. But the decibels that these grown men’s cries and screams reach is intolerable. Finally, there’s the issue of people lifting in their bare feet. With the rules on the wall clearly stating shoes must be worn, you’d think something would be done. Here’s the kicker, friends. Two of the howler monkey’s in the circus group previously mentioned are employees! One is the cleaning boy! If anyone were to be upset about bare feet on the equipment, one would have to assume it’d be the janitor! Well friends, you’d be wrong. Satire aside, the issues above are real issues and should be addressed. The gym is nice, but the after hours environment is uncomfortable and staff are blatantly letting members break rules

I was a customer of this gym for over 8 years. Three times they denied me access claiming I hadn't paid my dues in over 2 years, yet they have been charging my AMEX monthly. I never missed a payment. The kids at the counter have no customer service experience and were very vocal in announcing to all that I had not paid. Not only inconvenient but embarrassing. I called today and they still wanted to argue with me. Very disappointed in overall customer service. Notified my credit card company and cancelled my membership.

Great training facility for any type of workout routine.
A wide variety of cardio and weight resistance machines, but also plenty of free weights and SPACE to train.
The rooms, space, and wide variety of equipment ensures their gym goers that even during peak hours that they can get their workout in.
Classes and trainers appear to be knowledgeable and in great shape.
Cleanliness of the facility is good.
The option to use the gym's 24 hour option coupled with the facility itself places this muscle factory far above any other around the area.
No annoying crossfit cult activities.
Get in and get out, no matter what time you go.
Complaints about pricing leaves me scratching my head.
Price is fair and competitive when compared to any other gym. Plus the clientele beats going to a LA Fitness or other crowded facility surrounded with inconsiderate gym patrons.
South Beach keeps it honest, simple, and real.
Can't sleep? Is your current gym's hours restricting you from training on weekends or holidays?
Try out South Beach.
You won't be disappointed.

I have been with South Beach since they opened, when they were by Coasters. I LOVE THIS GYM. Leave your attitude at the door--there is none of the normal machismo, drama, or weirdness there--everyone from members to staff have been most friendly. People go there to workout--so many other places I had checked into were more like a social place to chat, etc...this is a fabulous place to work out. I also use the 24 hr access which is fabulous for nights with insomnia!

Just had a run in with front desk person who called herself a manager. When I went to go in to gym, she checked the record and could find nothing, even though we've been going for two months regularly. Sent me away to "go and check my records". I returned with proof that we had indeed paid two months ago. Obviously, the gym's system did not work.
"Manager" was unapologetic, unfriendly, and laughed at me.
All a real shame, because everything else I have to say about South Beach Fitness is nothing but positive.

well I am the dumb ace for not reading these reviews first. I join this gym about two years ago and they took the monthly fee out of my bank account twice then it took me going in to the gym four different days to try to get my over charge returned, I call, I emailed and the Lisa person was never there and never returned my calls about two weeks later the over charge was returned to my bank account...now fast forward to today. I wanted to re-join as now they have 24 hour access and the other local gym does not. I joined on line but their site did not say anything about the wait for getting the 24 hour access so stupid me thought it would be no big deal as I have traveled all over the country and got 24 hour access as soon as I signed up....not true at SB I went in tonight and the young guy working said "well I don't have any of the forms for you to sign up for the 24 hour access so you will have to come back during the week (daytime) and get the form then you wait about a week and some guy does a background check and then you get the access after paying another $25 fee. This is stupid and I canceled my brand new membership on site and now will have to argue (I'm sure) during daytime hours with someone to get a refund. This is why I signed up on line and want the 24 hour access because I can NOT go in there during daytime hours HELLO

Can I just tell these whiney people to shut up? South beach is a great gym. I love it.
You have to live a pretty miserable life to talk bad about a gym.

To all those who read reviews please take this review under major consideration.
South Beach Fitness is not a place you would want to work out in. After my experience which by the way hasn't even been a day in fact I have not even worked out there yet will help your decision to not invest your hard earned money in this gym or even with a trainer named Michael Flickinger who claims himself to be the manager of this gym.

For starters I went their seeking a membership and a tour of the gym as every gym I had ever been a member of does for you. I was told by the employee at the front desk that sorry no one was there to help me. In fact he just left it at that and didn't say another word. I asked him again well is there any information he could give to me and again he just said no. So I asked another question do you have a schedule of class or prices how about a tour? He said sorry he is just watching the front desk. He told me to just go online and get my membership there. While I was displeased with the response I thought well maybe a new employee and doesn't really know what he is doing. So I went online and I paid for a year membership in advance which was 368.88 everything went smooth until I found out the next morning that I was charged again by the gym for the full amount. When I called the gym to speak to a manger about this, Michael Flickinger (who called himself the manager) had assured me that this "oversight" would be rectified immediately as long as I had proof and apologized for the other employees behavior that that was unacceptable and not the gyms practice. Well as soon as my husband went into the gym to get a reversal on the chargers Michael Flickinger not only disrespected my husband but basically told him he could not guarantee a refund in a timely manner and that he would let the owner Lisa know and then he blew my husband off. I called Michael Flickinger to discuss this matter with him and he was just as disrespectful and then when I told him to refund not just the overcharge but what I initially paid for because of the treatment of which I was being treated he basically told me he will let the owner know and he didn't know when that would be. Only after I had assured him that I will bring criminal charges as well as a civil suit against this establishment was when he said the owner would contact me the next day. Which will be tomorrow. And for all of you that are reading this all of this started on 2/14/14 it is 2/18/14. How does a customer get treated like this and has not even stepped into the gym to even work out.
I hope this helps all those looking for a good gym to work out at. Please stay away from this one.

Wow! I've been a member at this gym for over a year and just had reason to look up their phone number online today and came across these reviews. I know they say 1 bad experience is worth 10 good ones and only those bad experiences bother to post so here's my 2 cents ... for what it's worth. This isn't Pro Health & Fitness, and they don't try to be. It's a simple, beachside gym, with extremely knowledgeable staff (especially Charlie, Erika, & Brian). I've had 2 issues total and both have been handled promptly & with respect by the owner directly. They're working through being a relatively new gym and you can see the progress they're making every month. Whether it's a free trial, $5 guest of an existing member, or $10 off-the-street use for the day, I'd simply suggest you go in and give it a shot for yourself rather than rely on the less-than-handful of jaded reviews here. You just might be surprised (and impressed) with who else you see there who call this their home gym.

They advertise a free week then make it too difficult to use!

I went in TWICE to get a free week to see what the gym was like. Each time the rules changed. Then the 'manager' insinuated I was committing fraud!

We're taking about $5 worth of gym access!!!! Why are they such jerks? What are the hiding? Are the trying to pull a fast one like the gym that used to be near Home Depot in Melbourne???
